Chapter 2
"A traitor?!" John bellowed in utter disbelief.
"Another traitor? No, master, surely…" Much continued. "None of us would…"
"Another traitor." Robin confirmed.
"Well, you must know it isn't me." Much declared.
"It's not me either." Will said.
"It's not me." Djaq added.
"Nor I." John replied.
Robin gave a bitter laugh, full of seething hatred and disgust. "Don't bother," he said. "This time, I already know exactly who it is."
"Master, who? Who would betray us?" Much was already frantically looking around from outlaw to outlaw, eyeing each of his friends suspiciously as he anxiously awaited Robin's reply.
"You have to tell us, Robin." Will said seriously. He didn't want to play guessing games this time around. The last time, when Allan had betrayed them, he'd suffered baseless accusations from Much all day and everyone in the gang had been uncomfortable and on edge, not knowing who they could trust. This was the last news he ever wanted to hear and he didn't want to believe that anymore of his friends could be capable of this, but if Robin was right and there was another traitor, then he knew he'd rather just get this part over with rather than deal with all of that arguing and finger pointing again. It was hard enough to lose a friend, but causing division between those who remained only made it worse.
"Djaq," Robin began. "Would you like to tell them where you were last night? I already know."
"Me?" Djaq asked incredulously. "I was here."
"Not the whole night. As I recall, after dinner you said that you were going off to wash and pray and collect some new herbs for your medical kit."
"That is what I was doing." Djaq replied defensively. "Are you saying you think I am the traitor?"
"I don't think, I know. Marian saw you." Robin responded. There was no question about this in his mind, she'd been caught and that was the end of it. Now it was time to pay.
"Saw me what?" Djaq asked, offended at the accusation as she felt the eyes of all the other outlaws upon her.
"She saw you. You know exactly what you were doing. Would you like to tell them or should I?"
"Perhaps you should, as I have no idea what you're accusing me of." She said as she crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"What?" Much piped up.
"Just tell us what's going on." Will said, fear and anger in his voice, though it was unclear whether his tone was more for Robin accusing the woman he cared most about or for Djaq for possibly betraying them.
"Last night, Marian went to speak with Allan in the castle. She found him with Djaq."
"What?" John asked, turning his attention to Djaq. "Why?"
"What were you doing with that traitor?" Much asked.
"Well, just speaking to Allan hardly counts as betrayal, Robin." Will stood up for her, though he was looking at her with growing suspicion.
"What about sucking his cock? Does that count as betrayal, Will?"
Four pairs of eyes went wide with shock and horror as they all turned to face Djaq. Her face reflected the same shock and horror as theirs and for a moment, the whole camp was silent.
"What?!" Djaq nearly shrieked. "Have you lost your mind?! I was here in the forest! I have never…"
"Like I said, Marian saw you." Robin spat. "There's no point in denying it now. She heard your conversation with him too. Would you like me to tell them about that as well?"
"What are you talking about?!" Djaq demanded.
"About Gisborne and the guards? What, too ashamed to tell them about it?" Robin taunted her.
"What?!" Much sputtered. "What about them?"
"She's sleeping with them too. Selling both her body and our secrets for money. She's Gisborne's new mole in the camp and apparently his lover as well."
"Djaq?!" John cried out. "Robin, I do NOT believe…"
"What are you talking about?!" Djaq yelled. "I have never and would never do something like that!"
"Robin, that's one hell of an accusation." Will commented astonished. "I don't believe it for a second."
"Marian saw her!" Robin shouted in anger. "Saw her with her own eyes! Heard the conversation with her own ears!"
"Then she must be mistaken." Will said simply.
"The last time someone tried to convince me Marian was mistaken, hearing things wrong from listening in keyholes, it was Allan trying to cover his own tracks! We all know how that turned out!" Robin was screaming at this point. "And who has been his biggest defender this whole time? Djaq. Who keeps pleading for his life? Trying to convince the rest of us he's not that bad? Djaq. It all makes sense now. It all fits. Of course you would be defending your lover."
"My lover?!" Djaq spat out appalled.
"That's what Allan is, right? Him and half the men in Nottingham, of course." Robin shook his head. "It's disgusting."
"Well, that's just...that's...revolting." Much said.
"Yes," Djaq agreed. "It is revolting, which is why I did not do it. Not any of this. I haven't done a single thing I'm being accused of!"
"So now you're calling Marian a liar?" Robin asked.
"She is either lying or she's made a mistake. I did not do this!" Djaq yelled back. Robin went silent for a moment, just looked down and shook his head.
"What did you tell them, Djaq?" Robin asked her in a cold, calm, voice.
"What are you talking about?!" Djaq yelled back.
"Did you tell them where the camp is?" Robin asked.
"I haven't told anyone anything! I didn't do anything!" Djaq replied.
"Did you tell them about Marian?"
"I said I didn't do anything!"
"Did you agree to give them the Pact? Is it even still here?" Robin asked as he made his way over to the chest he kept it hidden in to check.
"I didn't do anything!" Djaq yelled. Robin ignored her as he ruffled through the chest.
"It's still here." He announced with relief. "Do they know where to find it?"
"I haven't told anyone anything! I already told you, I didn't do this."
"Well, until you're ready to tell us the truth, I'm not letting you out of my sight. I can't risk you running back to warn them." Robin decided. "Tie her up."
"What?!" Will asked.
"I am telling you the truth!" Djaq yelled.
"Robin, no." John said seriously. "This cannot be true. You can't just…"
"I said tie her up!" Robin shouted. "Now!" He grabbed some rope out of a wooden chest. Djaq started backing away fearfully but walked backward right into Much who didn't budge.
"Master, we can't just tie her up!" Much sputtered.
"Of course we can." Robin told him. "Do you want to risk her running back to the sheriff and Gisborne and telling them everything?"
"You didn't tie Allan up when you found out he was spying for Gisborne." Will pointed out.
"I should have. I should've killed him." Djaq felt the blood drain from her face. She couldn't believe this was happening. "But at least Allan confessed when he was caught. Djaq doesn't even have the courage to do that!"
"I will not confess to something I did not do!" Djaq frantically looked around the camp. She was surrounded by the other outlaws, whom she believed to be her friends that she'd trusted completely up until a few minutes before. There was nowhere to run. Much grabbed her by the arm and she struggled to shake him off.
"I don't like this." Much said nervously. "But if you're innocent, it will all get figured out soon enough."
"I am innocent! Much, you know me! You know I wouldn't do this!" Djaq cried out.
"Of course she's not innocent!" Robin laughed bitterly. "Marian already caught her! Now, tie her up until she's willing to confess what she told them!"
Robin approached with the rope as he backed her up further into the camp. She tripped when she backed into her bunk and fell backward onto her own bedding. He immediately grabbed her by the wrists and started tying her to a wooden beam.
"Nothing! I didn't tell anyone anything! I didn't do anything! Let me go!" She shrieked as she struggled to get out of his grasp.
"Somehow I don't believe that there wasn't any pillow talk going on at all." Robin sniggered. "Tell us what you told them and I'll let you go. The truth. Otherwise, you can just stay here for all I care. And I want to know where your stash is too."
"What stash?!" Djaq asked.
"The money, Djaq. Where did you hide the money?" Robin asked.
"What money?!"
"The money you got from spreading your legs, you worthless, disgusting, traitorous, whore."
