"What's wrong Liv?" Trevor asked her, noticing that she was sitting up, wincing as if she was in pain. He was dressed and ready to go to work. She'd barely been home for more than an hour after a nightshift that ran a little over.
She held on to her belly and took a few deep breaths. "Are you okay?" he pressed, a little more seriously. He sat beside her on the bed.
She nodded, "I just feel a bit weird, dizzy and just getting used to the weird sharp pains and cramps—Dr Antonio said it was everything just getting ready…"
Trevor seemed concerned. "Dizzy? Are you sure that's normal?"
"I think so…" she glanced at him, noting his concern. She pushed the tension from her face and gave him a reassuring smile. "I just feel a bit off, but dizziness was mentioned from time-to-time, could be baby pressing on organs, not eating enough, not sleeping enough-"
"Well…" he smiled back, "we have a new guy starting today at the office and I have to get him through an onboarding process, first thing this morning, but I'm taking a half day to hang out and rest with you."
"Honey, you don't have to do that," Liv replied, I need to sleep and go back to work at 5.
"Actually, I do… Erika got called in to fill in for another lecturer and so she can't take Eloise today and I haven't heard back from daycare to see if she can get in."
"Leave her with me, we'll be fine."
"No way baby, you're too tired, you've just worked a full over nighter and she will be too much for you if you're not feeling well. Lucy is going to be taking her out this morning after dropping Noah off and will let me know if she manages to take her to daycare."
"Okay," Liv agreed, laying back down. "But just so you know, a Mom's job doesn't go on hold just cos she feels unwell or she's tired – I can handle her and she's never too much for me."
Trevor smiled and went to kiss but Olivia winced and grabbed her stomach, gasping in pain. "No, no…" he pulled away, "no, Liv—you're not okay."
"I am I promise, its just all these weird twinges I'm not used to," she promised him, being taken by surprise by the feeling of the baby moving around a lot or everything cramping just a little. The OB had warned her the cramping was normal but if it was ongoing or any bleeding, there was a problem. It was fleeting, but coupled with the dizziness, Olivia knew she had to listen to her body.
He stood up and shed his jacket. She didn't notice, she was too busy breathing through her pain. "Baby," Trevor had his phone pressed against his ear and stood by Liv's side, rubbing her back firmly, reminding her to take deep breaths.
Trevor's boss answered her phone. "Hey Kara, how are you?" he asked.
"I'm good," she picked up the urgency and concern in his tone. "Are you all good, councilor?"
"I'm just with Olivia at the moment, I don't think I can leave her – uh," he glanced at her, realizing how much pain she was in, "I think I need to take her to get checked out, I don't want to be a flake but-"
Olivia was done pretending she was okay, the pain swept over her so strongly that she had began to worry, praying that there was no bleeding. It was blinding at first, but it started to ease off and she realized she didn't want to be left alone.
"Trev, take care of your pregnant fiancé," she said with lightness to her voice, "I will take care of Troy's onboarding or I'll get Lesley on to it. You need to be home with Olivia. Keep me updated, okay?"
"Thank you Kara… I'll text you later. Sorry."
"Don't mention it, you're a good Dad and a good partner, Trev, don't stress about work," she replied. It was possibly the best part of having a female boss who had children of her own – she understood sometimes that family needed to come first and she was incredibly flexible when it came to hours around court appearances as long as he was well prepped.
They both knew that he would work from home where he could.
He hung up and turned to Liv. "Okay honey, this is what's happening, I'm going to go get you the heat pad for your back," he told her, knowing that she'd been complaining of a sore back in the early hours of the morning. "I will get you some water and some crackers and I want you to lay down very, very slowly so you don't make your dizziness worse."
She was happy for him to take charge. He could tell that she was suddenly worried by her cramps and he was mildly concerned, but briefly he remembered his ex worrying about a similar thing too, but he put any concern he had aside for the second to make sure that she felt comfortable and re-assured. "Okay," she agreed.
He held her steady by her shoulders and watched her shift her body so that she could find a comfortable position. She lowered herself slowly until her head hit the pillow.
"Okay sweetheart," he stroked her hair for a moment, "it'll be alright, it's probably normal but I'll get your heat pad. Do you want me to call Dr. Antonio for your sake of comfort?"
"No, its alright, it's kind of passed now thank goodness… The pain panicked when it heard my man was coming for it," Liv murmured with a little laugh, so relieved the pain had eased.
Trevor smiled at her and planted a kiss upon forehead.
/
"Now listen to me very carefully," Trevor began, speaking with his daughter. She continued to stare at the Disney movie that he'd put on an iPad for her. She didn't look up and that was what he hated most about the kids on the screen.
"Eloise," he remarked firmly, swiping the iPad away and pausing her movie.
"Noooo!" she exclaimed in protest.
Trevor held up his hand as she went to grab for it back. "Stop!" he said, his tone showing that he wasn't messing about. "I told you to listen to me very carefully and if you do not listen to me, you will not be looking at Mommy's iPad again for the rest of the week."
Eloise pouted and retracted her arms back to herself. "Are you listening to me?" he asked.
She nodded.
"Mommy is feeling sick today and I need you to come upstairs with me and you can use the iPad and watch the movie with your earphones while Daddy does some work and Mommy sleeps. But you are not to bother her, do you understand?"
She nodded again. "Mommy is always sick," she replied.
"No she's not, she's been tired, baby. Come on, come with me." He picked up the iPad and guided her upstairs in front of him. "You need to be quiet okay?" he warned her in a kind voice, hating to be stern with her.
"Okay Daddy," she agreed. She paused, holding on to the rail, hating when she got to the top few stairs, she could see through the banister rails to the ground. "Daddy will you hold my hand?" she asked softly.
Trevor's heart melted, he smiled to himself. "Of course, honey," he replied, reaching over and taking her tiny, pudgy hand in his. She continued her ascension of the steps more confidently. "You know you can do this on your own though, you are a big girl." She had only worried recently, he considered that Noah had said something that had made her scared while they played.
"I know," she said with a shrug as they reached the landing, "but I wanna hold your hand."
He smiled.
He knew he shouldn't have picked her up all the time, but he couldn't help it, he loved the warmth of her tiny body against him and knew he had limited time with her being as small and as dependent on him as she was. Liv had warned him to never take the tiny years for granted and he knew she sometimes missed Noah asking for help or needing her to do things for him.
He scooped Eloise up with his free arm and kissed her cheek.
He opened the bedroom door and found Olivia texting on her phone. "Honey, you're supposed to be resting," he said, disappointed that she wasn't doing what was best for her.
"Sorry," she apologized, "I was worried so I texted Melinda to ask a few questions."
Trevor placed Elly on the bed and watched her crawl up toward Liv. "Mommy," she spoke softly and seriously, "are you okay?"
"Awww babe," Olivia placed one hand on her chest, a tiny, weary smile crossing her pale lips. "Yes, I'm okay. I just feel a bit yucky and my head hurts," she explained.
"My other Mommy was sick too she always says Eloise be quiet, Mommy's head hurts!" the little girl explained, looking concerned, almost ready to cry. "Mommy didn't want to get out of bed. I don't want you to go to forever sleep."
"Whoa," Trevor said, shocked, she had barely spoken about Helena since she had passed.
"Come here…" Olivia remained seemingly unbothered by Eloise's surprising, saddened remark. She patted the empty spot beside her. "You are such a big girl," she smiled at her, "but you're not too big for a cuddle, especially when I'm not feeling the best…"
Olivia pulled the blanket back and Eloise, still in her adorable white and pink striped all-in-one pajamas, slotted herself beneath the covers, climbing in and letting Olivia pull them up over her.
Trevor smiled, his shock slowly dissipating.
"Maybe Daddy can get in to bed for a minute too," she suggested.
Trevor put down the iPad on top of his brief case by the desk where he liked to work sometimes in private. He got changed from his work pants back in to his gym pants and disrobed from his button down top. The girls remained patient while he put his clothes up neatly and came to toward the bed, slipping beneath the covers too, smiling at Liv.
"I want to tell you something," Liv curled an arm around Eloise and drew her near, smelling her milk and cheerio breath that she was unbothered by. It was the stock-standard smell of her babies of a morning.
"What?" Eloise asked.
"I know your other Mommy was sick and I've been sick too and I know that it might worry you sometimes about me having a forever sleep too, but that's not going to happen to me, sweetie, okay?"
"How do you know?" she wondered, her eyes staring in to Olivia's looking for constant reassurance that she realized they may not have been giving her enough of.
"I am feeling sick because your baby brother is really heavy and I have to carry him in my tummy and he makes my back sore and sometimes I get really tired from carrying him. Sometimes your baby brother sits up here…" she patted high up beneath her breast bone, "and he makes Mommy a little dizzy."
"I don't like my brother if he hurts you, Mommy," she pouted seriously.
"Babe, its okay, I'm sure when you were in your other Mommy's tummy you made her feel the same way sometimes… maybe Daddy remembers."
"My real Mommy?" she asked curiously.
Olivia nodded.
"Sweetheart," Trevor began, touching his little girl on her shoulder. She was laying with her back to him, facing Olivia. She rolled on to her back to see her father. "Olivia is your real Mommy too," he said gently, "but your other Mommy was the one who carried you in her tummy and she loved you very, very, very much."
Olivia gave him a smile; navigating her mother's death was hard for them to always know the right thing to say while simultaneously not wanting to confuse her.
"I miss my other Mommy sometimes," Eloise told him, "I haven't seen her in a long, long time."
Olivia was sure she saw Trevor's eyes filming over with water. "I know," he replied to her, "I miss her too," he said and he meant it. Olivia reached over placed her hand over Trevor's bicep. "Its okay to miss her and you're allowed to talk about her whenever you want—you can always ask me questions about her, okay?"
"Maybe we'll get a photo of her and put her in your room so you can look at her and remember her every day," Olivia suggested to the little girl, "would you like that?"
Eloise smiled and nodded.
"Okay," Liv replied, stroking her hair. "Better give Daddy a cuddle now because I think he's sad," she urged her.
Trevor chuckled and wiped a tear from his eye. "Daddy don't cry," she murmured, inching close to him. He reciprocated her hug. The one thing he loved to witness was just how compassionate and empathetic both Eloise and Noah were. Sometimes it was surprising, but other times he remembered how both he and Olivia both individually encouraged their children to be self-aware and thoughtful toward others.
"Thank you for the cuddle, sweetie," Trevor said to her as she pulled away.
Eloise gave Olivia a hug too and stayed nested against her. "How are you feeling now?" Trevor asked.
"Mel said that it could just be random cramping which happens when things are readying," she shrugged. "Its pretty much what Dr Antonio told me could happen… I think the dizziness is normal, the baby pressing down in a certain position."
"Okay," Trevor replied. "but please don't pretend to be brave if you're not sure, okay? I trust your judgment but if we need to take you to the hospital or whatever…"
"I promise," she smiled, reassuringly.
"Daddy, can I watch my Disney now?" Eloise cut in.
"Sure…" Trevor smiled. He looked at Olivia. "Eloise is watching Frozen on the iPad, I said she could sit in here with you and I with her earphones."
"What about…" Olivia began, smiling at Trevor and then at Eloise, "we put Tangled on the TV and Mommy will watch with you."
"Oooh!" Eloise looked at her father for his answer.
"If Mommy wants to watch Tangled with you, that's okay," he smiled. "I'm just gonna sit in here and do some work, is that alright?" he asked.
"That sounds nice," Olivia replied.
Trevor set up the television and turned Disney on for them both, finding the right movie. Olivia shifted on to her back, letting her eyes fall shut again, steeling herself for a moment against the vertigo-type feeling that washed over her.
Eloise closed in toward Olivia. She felt a little hand resting on her belly. Trying to find a comfortable spot was hard enough but with the dizziness it was even harder. On her back was not really an option anymore, she thought, turning slightly back to the side, curling around to see the TV.
"You good baby?" Trevor asked her, watching her.
"Yeah…" Olivia replied, "just… the room is swishing a little," she replied, "but its okay, it'll stop in a minute."
The movie began and Trevor set himself up with his laptop and sat up against the bed head and worked quietly, letting the girls watch their movie. He smiled to see Eloise so close with Olivia, patting Liv's pregnant belly as if it were a dog. Liv glanced up wearily and shared a smile with Trevor, acknowledging their daughter's affection for her unborn brother.
He watched Liv's eyes slowly close and knew she really wasn't feeling very well.
He noticed Eloise had clocked Liv falling asleep too. She stopped patting her tummy and inched in nice and close, cuddling her. Olivia slightly shifted and put an arm around the warm toddler, feeling comforted having them both in the room with her.

"Wow, took you long enough to show up here," Trevor remarked without looking up. Despite his remark, he didn't seem wowed and in fact, his tone was flat and unmoved.
"I took a week," Elliot replied in the same flat tone.
"Close the door behind you, clearly we have a few things to get straight," Trevor was instantly angered by Elliot's appearance, but he knew better than to show his cards.
"I'm not here for a lecture councilor, I'm here for a warrant," Elliot, replied.
"Shut. The. Door." Trevor repeated himself.
Elliot sighed and turned to the entryway and closed the door behind him.
Finally, Trevor looked up from his computer and up at Olivia's ex partner. "I really don't want to get involved between you and Olivia-"
"So don't," he snapped at Trevor bluntly.
"Olivia is carrying my child and she's going to be my wife. I don't really care what you think and what you and your little friends down at SVU have been saying about me, but Olivia does not deserve you trying to get her friends – her only family, on your side. She is happy for once in her fucking life, Stabler, don't try to take that away from her. Leave her alone. She doesn't need to be stressed or upset by Fin and Amanda and whoever else talking behind her back, she doesn't need you inserting your thoughts in when it's unwanted. Just … leave her alone, that's all she wants."
"Right…"
"As for your warrant, I've told Kara about our current conflict of interest and from now on you'll be dealing with her until the new guy is all ready to go… so you can see yourself out."
"You know what I always hated about you, Langan?" Elliot asked, as he got to the door.
"I don't really care," Trevor replied, picking up his phone and scrolling through a message that had just come from Olivia.
"You're always so fucking smug, you think you're better than everyone else."
Trevor put the phone down and looked up at him. "Elliot, the problem here is not with me, its with you," he told him bluntly. "You have no idea how to treat people. I love Olivia and while you and I may not be the biggest fans of one another, I can tell you that I will never bad mouth you to her, because her happiness is my only concern. I will live my life lifting her up, I will never try to tear her down." He told him. "You can think that's me assuming I'm better than everyone, but that's not my concern. My concern will only ever be Olivia and her happiness and the happiness of our children."
"You don't think-"
"I don't think you know how to treat people right now, I don't know if you've always been this way or if this is something you're dealing with – either way, I need you to respect Olivia's choices and what she's been through enough to leave her to contact you if that's what she chooses."
Elliot went to say something but he thought the best of it and left Trevor's office, letting the door slam behind him, feeling slightly betrayed that Olivia had to tell Trevor about every encounter that passed between them both.

"So who do you have in mind?" Garland asked Olivia, smiling briefly at the child on her lap that was trying her absolute best to sit nicely and not interrupt. Eloise fidgeted around and Olivia ignored her, securing her with an arm around her to ensure that she wouldn't slip away and begin touching things in the office.
"I guess if we're talking about seniority, Fin is my next-in-line-"
"No," Garland said almost quicker than it came out of her mouth. "I know he is your friend and I can respect that but Fin has … a kind of reputation for being a little lazy and when it comes to the paperwork side of this job – without you knowing when you're going to be back exactly, I need someone that I know has close attention to detail, knows how to direct staff, delegate, but will also be happy to push things with the DA and also get their hands on the cases."
"Right," Olivia thought for a moment. "Between you and I, I don't really want Amanda in charge. She rules by emotions, she's had her … issues that got in the way of the job and her paperwork is usually good but she can be hit and miss with victims depending on what's going on in her life at the time," she explained.
"I've been looking at Carisi – I know he's young and only been at SVU for a few short years but he knows the law too, he has a good relationship with Trevor in terms of a DA he can trust who will also trust him-"
"Uncle Sonny!" Eloise exclaimed. She looked at Garland and retreated a little. "My Uncle Sonny," she repeated a little softer.
Olivia laughed. "Yes babe, your Uncle Sonny," she kissed the little girl on the crown of her head.
She turned to Garland, "Well…. I'm afraid there might be a slight conflict of interest…" she told him, "its not an issue for me but I'm aware of who might take issue. Trevor's sister is in a relationship with Carisi."
"My auntie Ez!" Elly announced to Garland.
Christian laughed at the little girl. She turned to Olivia, "Daddy's sister is my auntie Ez, isn't she Mommy?"
"Yes honey, she sure is." She shifted Eloise who was making her knee go dead.
"I already knew about that, she was at my 40th remember?" the chief reminded her.
"Oh right… well, there was a thing between him and Amanda for years – unrequited love, didn't want him, didn't want anyone else to want him and now she's trying to get him back or at least making waves—" Olivia shrugged, "if we give Carisi that promotion during my maternity leave, it'll cause problems between them."
"Well, ultimately this is my choice and my suggestion. Do you think he's cut out for the job?"
"Yes and I trust him to do things my way and I trust that he will consult me if he needs help and that's what I want. I don't want to be sitting at home twiddling my thumbs."
"Okay, well I am taking your recommendation on board and I'll let you know my final decision late this afternoon," said Garland.
"Okay great," replied Olivia but she knew exactly who he was going to choose and she was glad. She adjusted Elly on her lap. "Look at that, it's just on lunch time," she smiled. "Do you want to go see Daddy for lunch?" she wondered.
"Yeah! Will Daddy get us nuggies?" she asked.
Olivia was continuously craving nuggets from McDonalds or Wendys and Eloise was benefitting from the deal. Almost every day that she was home with her, they shared nuggets – Olivia all she needed to do was to leave a couple for Noah who would only pick at them briefly and everyone was happy.
She and Garland laughed at the child. "Shh stop giving away Mommy's secret cravings," she smiled.
"How are you doing, Liv? Aside from trying to find a maternity replacement? I mean, everything with Elliot and that little shake-up?"
She glanced at her chief briefly and focused back on the child in front of her. "He's been a challenge to deal with," she replied honestly. "I've asked him to stop asking for my help specifically – he doesn't need my help, he wants me around to try to rekindle a friendship or whatever," she shrugged, "its stressful to be around and rehashes a lot of hurt and trauma at best," she added.
"Okay," Garland listened, nodding, just as he had suspected. "I had a chat with his Captain two days ago and I asked her to ensure that he no longer tries to involve you in helping with interview processes or whatever else, it's not your job, he is a trained and highly skilled detective, he knows how to get these things done."
Olivia nodded, deciding not to play it out like she was fine and didn't need help navigating it. The truth was, Elliot's constant questioning of her life did spark new feelings of trauma. It dug up feelings about him because she had considered that his lack of communication during her abduction was what hurt her more than anything else he could have ever done. It made her think about the circumstances of her kidnapping and the torture that took place, the very things that he did to her.
Olivia found herself blinking back her tears. "Sorry," she said softly.
"Its okay," Garland smiled warmly at her and pushed a box of Kleenex toward her.
She came to realize there was so much of her that resented Elliot for not being there, for allowing her to be alone without him which ultimately led to her kidnapping. She knew that instinctually if they'd still been partners he would have never let it take place – but more than that was the stinging, heartbreak that came after – that he didn't show up, he didn't even pick up the phone.
She wiped another tear that rolled down her cheek.
"Liv, you don't have to always keep up that game face. You're allowed to be angry and upset and then the Sanchez case on top of it – I'll bet it hasn't helped your own healing process."
She shook her head, afraid a sob might escape if she said a word.
"Mommmyyyy," Eloise looked up, she saw the tears streaking down Olivia's cheeks.
Elly reached up and placed her chubby little hands on Liv's face and wiped her tears. "Don't be sad Mommy, you can see Daddy and get some nuggies?" she suggested softly like it was a question.
Olivia and Garland were both able to laugh at the little girl's compassion and coffee-cup solution.
Olivia leaned over and kissed Eloise. "I think that's a wonderful idea," she replied.
Olivia wiped her face. "Thanks Christian," she gave him a smile. "I am okay, I'm just ... sensitive at the moment," she explained, "but I did tell him where we both stood and had to have a word to Fin about loyalty and workplace gossip…"
Garland nodded, "if you need me to intervene at any time, Liv, please by all means, that's what I'm here for."
"Thanks… I appreciate it. I will definitely speak up, but I do feel better knowing you've spoken to Elliot's captain." She slowly got up from her chair and picked up Eloise, balancing her on her hip, giving her eyes one last wipe. She turned to her, "Okay sweetie, let's go see Daddy and ask him if he'll get us some nuggies and sauce for lunch, huh?"
"Yeahhh!"
"Okay, say bye, bye Mr Garland," Eloise shyly waved at him.
"See you later Eloise, it was lovely to meet you," he smiled at her. She buried her head shyly in to Liv's neck.
"Thanks Christian, I'll wait for your email or phone call."

Olivia was still feeling sensitive and a little sad when she arrived at Trevor's office. The door was closed but she saw that Kara's was open. She knocked softly, taking Eloise's hand. She quickly realized Trevor's boss was talking to someone. "Oh, sorry!" she exclaimed.
Elliot appeared from behind the door. She felt her stomach lurch as she didn't wait for a single word to be spoken. She made her way to Trevor's office, dragging Eloise quickly. She knocked on the door.
"Come on in!" she heard Trevor call out.
Relieved, Olivia opened the office door and let herself in. She closed it promptly behind her, feeling a little spooked; a panic that she'd never felt before from seeing Elliot's face.
"Hey baby, how are you going?" he asked, noticing the alarm – almost panic on Olivia's face.
"Fine, I didn't realize he woud be here. You should have warned me," she blurted out, seeming agitated.
"Who?" Trevor rose an eyebrow, "Oh, Elliot? He's still here? Sorry baby, I thought he'd be long gone by now." He kissed her forehead. "Are you okay? You look a little shaken up?"
Olivia nodded. "I'm okay." she let go of Eloise's hand and took a seat on the couch.
"Daddy!" Eloise tugged on his suit jacket. He glanced down at his daughter. "Daddy!"
"Sorry baby, Daddy didn't say hello to you! Silly me!" he smiled, picking her up. He kissed her cheek.
"Daddy, Mommy was sad before with Mr. Gar-garl," she struggled to get her tongue around his name. She gave up, "she cried."
"You are such a tattle-tale," Olivia replied with a little laugh, relinquishing her self-preservation in front of Trevor.
Trevor made his way over to Olivia and sank down beside her with Eloise on his lap. He put an arm around Liv and drew her to his shoulder. She rested her head on it. "Love you…" he whispered, turning his head and pressing his lips against her temple.
"Love you too," she replied, sighing heavily.
Trevor placed a hand on her tummy and the three of them sat for a moment chatting about their morning.
"What did Elliot want?" Olivia asked, "case-related?"
"Yes…" he nodded, "but… it degenerated and I've asked him to stay away from you and let you call the shots and I also asked him to stop coming to me professionally because it's a conflict of interest right now. Kara is on board."
Olivia glanced at Trevor. They made eye contact. He wasn't sure if she was going to be mad at him or not.
"Mommy," Eloise placed her hand on Olivia's shoulder, "nuggies!" she hissed as if it were their secret. Olivia was able to chuckle.
"In a second, babe," she replied. "Let Mommy talk to Daddy for a second…" she turned back to Trevor who was smiling at her with adoration. He reached over his daughter and caressed Olivia's hair.
"You're teaching our kids terrible eating habits," he told her half-serious.
She laughed, "we're pregnant, its our right…" she replied. He tucked a lock of hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead, her terrible excuse rousing a slight smile upon his lips.
"You're not mad at me?"
She shook her head. "No baby, why would I be mad?" she asked, genuinely surprised by his question.
"I know you don't like me meddling with the Elliot stuff."
"I'm long past that," she shrugged. "it feels good to have someone in my corner sticking up for me no matter what." Olivia managed a smile, feeling his fingers raking through the hair softly at the back of her head.
"Good…" He glanced at his daughter who was fidgeting on his lap with her light-up sneakers that she loved to wear. "We better feed our starving kids then, huh?" he suggested.
Olivia smiled.
"Yeah, I guess so.." she replied.
/
"Are you comfortable?" Trevor asked from behind her. He was aware of just how hard it had become for Olivia to get in to a comfortable position with her belly that seemed to be growing daily.
"Yeah, but my hips are aching still," she complained sounding fatigued. Trevor propped his head up on a second lounge cushion so he could see the television over her shoulder. He rested his hand on her upper arm and caressed her skin back and forth, trying to be of some comfort.
"I'm sorry," he replied, "I wish I could-"
"Oooh!" she exclaimed, cutting him off, "quick, quick… give me your hand…"
"What?!" he asked, puzzled by her sudden urgency. She grabbed his hand and dragged it to the underside of her belly. She pressed it firmly against her.
"Oh my gosh!" he exclaimed, feeling the thud against Olivia's skin. He chuckled, "Liv!" he breathed. He could feel the movements, unmistakable, foreign but overwhelming all rolled in to one.
She eased over slightly to face him. She wanted to see the elation on his face – the tangible proof of the life that grew inside of her. "Our son…" he murmured, his voice almost a whisper.
"Theodore…" she replied.
"Teddy," he corrected her.
Olivia covered her hand over his. "You keep missing him moving, he must have known Daddy was around tonight cos these are the strongest kicks I've felt so far…"
He kissed her lips softly. "Thank you…" he gazed in to her eyes.
"For…?" she pressed, seeing tears filming his eyes.
"For giving me the experience that I should have been given with Eloise. It's such a joy to be sharing this with you. I love doing this life with you," he smiled, kissing her again.
"Thank you for giving me this experience of being a Mommy in a different way. I feel so blessed…" Trevor rested his chin on her shoulder and gazed at the soft plains of her face.
"You are so beautiful…" he spoke softly.
"Thanks," she replied, reaching around running her fingers through his hair, "that's incredibly sweet of you, I feel like a beached whale."
A little smile spread across his lips. "Do you need me to go get a bucket of water to pour over you?"
She gave him a light slap in the back of the head. "I love you… even though you just agreed that I look like a beached whale."
"I would never agree with that. You are glowing and beautiful," he replied, kissing her again before resting his head back down. "I love pregnant Olivia, you'd be pregnant forever if I could have something to do with it…"
She let out a peel of laughter at the stupidity of it all. "We'd end up with way too many kids and my poor vag-" as she went to say the word Trevor covered her mouth, "no! don't say it!"
"Say what," she asked, turning her head to rid his hand from her mouth. "Vagina? You don't want me to use the anatomically correct term for my reproductive organ?"
"Its just…"he paused.
Olivia laughed again, "You're so silly and old fashioned. What are you going to teach Eloise?" she asked.
"I don't know… that's your job."
"Look, we're laughing about this, but in seriousness, we're going to call it what it is. Do you know how many children are taught to call their privates stupidest words and names?" he knew immediately that it was a touchy subject for her.
"As a special victims detective, I can't tell you how much molestation gets overlooked because children use the wrong words and adults outside of the close relationships in their family have no clue what they're talking about and ignore it…. So my kids learn the words; penis and vagina and nothing in between… so to speak."
"Okay," he agreed, realizing she wasn't kidding about and felt stupid for having such an immature reaction. "Sorry, I was being stupid."
"Its okay," she smiled not wanting to ruin their moment. "I love you and I am so so excited to have this baby but I don't think I could handle pregnancy again. Its … an experience, not all bad but… it hurts more than I thought and … the fatigue."
He went back to stroking her arm. "Baby, how many weeks we got left til we get to meet little Teddy? I'm getting antsy…"
Olivia smiled at him. She breathed in deeply, "about 15 weeks…not that long…"
"And then … once we settle him in, we can start concentrating on our wedding," he added. "figure out how many people we want to invite… what church…" he paused, "get you the loveliest dress of your dreams."
Olivia shifted a little, feeling a little uncomfortable by his traditional ideas of their wedding. She wondered how to delicately approach the conversation. They shared eye contact for a moment. Trevor sensed she wanted to say something.
"What?" he asked.
She stroked his hair absently for a moment. "I guess…" she averted his eyes.
"Liv… it's okay, just say it."
She sighed, "I don't have anyone to invite to our wedding," she admitted. He felt a pang of hurt hit him when he realized that besides her squad room, she didn't have anyone else. He was quick not to say anything, wanting her to continue, "I just don't really want to have a big wedding in a fancy church with a fancy dress, you know me, it's not me… I'm low key."
He considered her feelings for a moment. "Sweetie, didn't you want that fairytale wedding? Don't all little girls dream of that?" he asked.
"No, I was too busy putting my mother to bed or trying to figure out where I would find money to buy groceries," she replied, "can't we just elope?" she wondered.
"What?" he laughed, "seriously? We have to get married in a church… we can't just go to a courthouse-"
"Why?" she asked, "you've done this before, why do you need to have the whole white wedding again?"
"I dunno, it's just a thing – I guess I'm traditional, a church and a priest, its just … right." He did feel for her. He knew that she wouldn't want to marry in a church and he understood her reservations about having a traditional wedding without anyone to invite.
"But… does what I want count?" she asked, wondering if it was going to be an issue with them.
"Of course it does," he murmured.
"I know you say you're traditional, but nothing about this is traditional, I'm 15 weeks out from having a baby, doesn't the church frown on pre-marital sex and a child out of wedlock?"
He smiled knowing that she made a good point. "Well… what do you suggest?"
"What about… we go away, take the kids – I dunno, we could invite your sister to be our witness, maybe somewhere tropical like Hawaii… I dunno." She shrugged, "don't you think that sounds nice?"
He gazed at his wife-to-be and saw that her eyes seemed to sparkle a little more at the thought of a tropical wedding. "You really do love the beach, don't you? I'm figuring out that nothing will cheer you up quite like the ocean…"
She laughed light-heartedly. "Think of all the late night beach sex we can have – it'd be a wedding and a honeymoon all rolled in to one."
"And you want to ask my sister to come?" he asked with a cheeky grin.
"Well… we could ask her and Sonny to come along as our guests to celebrate with us and help with the kids," she paused, "your Mom too, if you wanted."
He shook his head, "I don't need the world there… I could only have either Mom or Erika, they couldn't both be on the same trip together and Erika and I…" he shrugged, "you know how that situation is."
She nodded understandingly.
"What about if…. We go and get married in Hawaii – we ask Erika and Sonny to join us and then when we get back we'll get our marriage blessed, just the two of us, by a priest, just to satisfy whatever traditional values are in my brain for whatever reason."
Olivia smiled. "Really? I don't have to fight you on this?" she asked with a little laugh. "I thought you were going to be so upset with me…"
He lifted himself up and kissed her cheek and then her lips a few times. "My Olivia, why would I fight you about our wedding? I want it to be about us not me. It's about us and our love and celebrating that, not about the guest number, location or the clothes – but… I really would love to see you in a hot white dress of some description."
Olivia chuckled. "I won't disappoint you."
"I know that…" he murmured, leaning in to kiss her again. "In fact, I am kind of excited about spending some time in Hawaii, I've never been…"
"Me either… but it sounds amazing." She paused and continued to caress his hair, "Where did you and Helena go for your honeymoon?" she asked.
Trevor smiled, resting his head down as Olivia shifted to face him. He slipped an arm around her. "I took her to The Bahamas and she hated it…" he laughed, "so we left early and she insisted I take her to Milan instead."
Olivia laughed, "how did you deal? I mean, I don't see you as someone who would take kindly to ungratefulness."
He shrugged, "I was a lot younger back then and it was just easier than arguing and I liked Italy so I'd go for coffee and take a book and she would go shopping for hours on end…"
"Well, I don't want that – I want us to spend time as a family in a nice big hotel or air B&B—if I want to go shopping, I want you to come with me and have an opinion on stuff I buy…. And I want late night swimming in a hotel pool sometimes with the kids and sometimes without…" she smiled, "and also, cocktails, lots of them."
Trevor grinned at her, "stop, you're just talking dirty now…"
"I love you, I can't wait to marry you…"
"Me either…" he replied.
She grabbed his hand again and placed it back on her belly, "he's really stomping around right now…" she laughed. "This is the first time I've felt this so strongly."
They shared a smile as Trevor felt the movements; feeling so utterly overjoyed and content despite how tired they both were. "Wow…" he breathed with a sigh, "it just feels so surreal now-" he rubbed her belly lovingly once the kicking had stopped for a moment. He shifted down a little and raised her shirt. He planted a little kiss on her the swell of her stomach. "Love you," he said, Olivia understood that he was speaking to their child. He rested his cheek for a brief moment. She felt him sigh again with contentment.
He lifted himself up and pulled her shirt back down, covering her stomach.
He returned beside her. Olivia felt so much love for him. He kissed her lips.
"I can't wait to be a Dad again and hold my son in my arms… I keep telling myself how different its going to be to my experience as Eloise's newborn Dad but I feel like…"
"Like I might flip and do the same?" she asked him, realizing he was being vulnerable. He was broody and full of emotion and feelings. She loved his soft side. She loved his funny and fun side too, but his soft side was what allowed her time and time again to continue growing more and more vulnerable with him.
"Yeah… and I'm sorry for feeling like that, I know you're not her but I still sometimes feel like maybe I was doing something wrong and maybe keeping Eloise from me was for her best interests."
Olivia smiled. She took his cheeks in her hands, "you know what I love the most about you?" she asked, brushing her fingers over the soft bristles that lined his cheeks.
He shook his head just slightly.
"I love that you are so so gentle and warm and patient. You are going to be such a good support with this baby and I am going to be the luckiest woman to have such a wonderful fiancé who is going to be the perfect father – you're amazing with the other kids and I've never felt like I should tell you to back-off with Noah, you just jumped right in head first…. Even if he doesn't always love a second person telling him what he can and can't do."
Trevor smiled. "Quite frankly," she continued, "the idea of you looking exhausted from being up all night with me, with a baby, wearing your underclothes and nursing our tiny little boy in the early hours of the morning while giving me a break to sleep for half an hour is a turn on," she laughed, "which I realize is weird, but… total DILF." She joked.
He laughed. "Thanks Liv, for saying all that."
She pressed her lips against his. "I'm just telling you what's true."
He kissed her right back. He felt the baby moving around for a little longer with her until they went to bed.
