Chapter IX :
Training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber!
Part I
Author's note:
Hey, guys. I'm finally back again with a new chapter. I'm sorry for not updating for so long, but I had to take a break from writing. I'll my best to update sooner. Also, as a celebration of over 13,000 views, I drew a cover for this fiction based on a Tododeku art I've seen. Hope you like it. And thank you all for 44 favs and followers!
I do not own Dragon Ball, DBZ, DBS, DBGT, or Boku No Hero Academia. Enjoy.
Booooom!
A huge explosion could be seen from outer space after the clash between All Might's successor and the youngest son of the great King Cold. The two kept fighting with no stop each trying to gain a little advantage over the other. Despite that the cyborg Frost Demon has lost his left arm during their battle, he still was able to fight evenly with his opponent. Midoriya, on the other hand, was trying to find a weakness in his foe to finish him quickly. He didn't like to kill others, even if they were villains, but he had no choice. However, there was almost nothing he could do that may kill him. He can destroy the mechanical pieces, but the problem lies in the original body. The Frost Demons are known for their great survivability, allowing them to survive injuries that may seem deadly to others. Nevertheless, there was only one way to beat this monster.
Suddenly, the tyrant flew up to the sky and raised his hands, charging a 100% Full Power Death Ball. The energy sphere grew larger and larger before Mecha Frieza fired it screaming with an evil smile: "DIE, worthless human!" At that moment, Izuku saw that there was no hope except to use his most powerful move. It'll for sure drain his energy, but it's the only way to survive. He threw both his arms open before straightening them to the front and discharged a massive golden beam of energy with electric ki streaming around it towards his foe, shouting loudly: "Take this, Frieza! FINAL FLASH!" Both beams struggled with each other for a brief moment until finally, Midoriya's attack overpowered Frieza's, destroying the planets' destroyer who screamed in disbelief: "NO WAY! I, Lord Frieza, was defeated... by an INSECT!"
In the end, the nightmare was over. The man who brought fear to countless galaxies has faced his end. The green-haired teen drew a smile of happiness and joy on his face. His smile was growing bigger and bigger, indicating how proud he was of himself. He was overjoyed not because he controlled One For All, nor because he surpassed Prime All Might. He was glad because finally, he defeated one of the most powerful villains across the universe. A monster that no pro hero -besides Vegeta- could've lasted five minutes against. He then turned his sight of look to the planet that was now about to die and closed his eyes before opening them again, only to find himself back in the room he was in earlier, sitting in front of his Saiyan friend.
He looked at him in the eyes and asked gently: "So, how was I?"
"Izuku, I knew there was something special in you, but to defeat Frieza after only three weeks of training?! You've surpassed my expectations!" responded the young Saiyan, "Who knows? Perhaps you might catch with us so soon or maybe even surpass us!"
"You think so?" asked Midoriya happily.
"I don't see why not," replied Gohan, "You have all that you need to get stronger. I'm so sure that by the end of these six months, you'll definitely be at least as powerful as Perfect Cell." Then, a question came to the mind of the hybrid earthling as he questioned his friend: "By the way, Izuku, in the past weeks, your power has grown up so high and much faster than it did in our ten months of training for the exam. Do you maybe know why?"
The youngest teenager thought for a moment of what his friend had just told him. He didn't notice that at all and probably he wouldn't have noticed either if the Saiyan did not mention it. He looked at Gohan in the eyes and answered him:" Well, after you mentioned this Gohan, yes my power level did grow much faster. Honestly, I'm not so sure of this but it's most likely that this is one of the effects of One For All on my body. Who knows?"
"Since you mentioned that," interrupted Vegeta who was doing some push-ups next to them, "I forgot to ask you, Gohan, since when did you know how to create clones of yourself?"
"Oh, about that," responded the black-haired teenager, "I've been training in a while to use some new techniques in battles. You know, to increase my advantage over my opponents."
Izuku (in amazement): "That's a great idea, Gohan! Being a tactical fighter can give you a great opportunity to win even against more powerful enemies, just like Mister Piccolo! You know, many pro heroes in the world-"
Vegeta (screaming angrily): "IZUKU MIDORIYA! I swear if you started your endless mumbling again, I'm gonna shut your mouth FOREVER!" At that instant, the young man fell silent. He knew the risks of angering the prince of Saiyans. His life can be taken from him at any moment if he didn't obey his orders. When the older male calmed down a bit, he ordered his two trainees saying:" Alright, if you have ended your little game with Frieza, then hurry up and join me in a battle. I'm sick tired of training alone." Quickly, the two responded by dashing at him with all their force, starting a joined battle between the three of them.
The rules were simple and easy: whoever lasts to the end shall be the winner. No Super Saiyan is allowed. As for Izuku, he's allowed to use a max of 20% of One For All's full power for two reasons: First, to keep up with his mate and master. And second, to master the Quirk's power and become capable of using it at any percentage.
After a few hours of continuous punching and clashing with each other, the fight had finally ended with Gohan and Vegeta falling at the same time and poor Deku being the first to lose. The boy has felt a great shame knowing that even while using his Quirk, he couldn't keep up with his friend. He felt that he was nothing more than a weakling useless compared to him. However, later on, when he went to bed, he saw a dream that shook him and made him rethink himself.
Izuku's P.O.V.
I opened my eyes only to find myself surrounded by what looked like an endless void. I had no idea how did I come here or what this place is. He looked around and screamed hoping that someone may hear me and come to my rescue. Finally, I saw seven figures standing in a nearby place as if they were watching me. I ran to them and asked them where am I and who are they. However, no response came from them. They just kept staring at me in silence. I recognized the woman that was standing at the end of the line they were forming. She was the number #1 hero in Japan forty years ago: Nana... Nana... Nana Shimura! That's right! But wait, isn't she supposed to be dead? I asked her about this place yet she didn't answer me. When I tried to approach them, they all had suddenly faded while another person appeared. I couldn't know who he was due to his face being hidden. Then, I felt his body moving on its own towards him while he stretched his hand as if he wanted to give me something or take it from me. I tried to turn back but I couldn't. When I stopped, my face was a few inches away from his. I didn't know what to do. Should I attack? Should I run? Even I wanted to I couldn't. I felt him putting his hand on my head and when I lifted my head, I was able to see him smiling a villainous smile and saying calmly: "Thanks, Izuku Midoriya. After over 100 years of waiting, I can finally get what's mine."
Suddenly, I found myself somewhere else. It was an area burning on fire. Never in my life did I see a place like this. Is this... what we mortals call... H-He'll !? I searched around until I saw this horrible scene. Down there, I saw what seemed to be a human-sized red muscular demon with black armor that had spikes on the shoulders. In front of him, I saw Gohan standing in his way, his body full of injuries and... Wait, is that a halo on top of him?! Didn't he tell me that this is the halo that dead people receive in the afterlife?! Is he... Is he Dead?! But wait a minute, who's this guy who's under the demon's foot? Is he...K-Kachan!? Is he also d-dead?! What's the meaning of all of this? I looked carefully at this scene and then I noticed another person lying behind Gohan who seemed-Wait a minute, is that ME?! AM I ALSO DEAD!? W-What's going in this place?! I want an explanation!
Finally, the monster opened his mouth and spoke: "Alright, kid. I suggest you move and let me finish my business." Then, I heard Gohan screaming: "Business!? What business!? Killing an innocent person again!? Isn't it enough that you already killed him once! Do you realize what will happen if you killed a dead person!" The demon had only responded with a small laugh and said: "And so what? You're gonna fight me 'All For Janemba'?" That was the monster's name, All For Janemba. I don't know why but... this name seemed as if it were... related to One For All. Suddenly, I was cut from my imagination when I heard somebody shouting from afar: "Leave them alone you monster!" Then, out of nowhere, another one appeared. He was a male that resembled a lot our classmate Mina Ashido, except that he didn't have hair. Instead, he had what looked like an antenna on the top of his head. He delivered multiple full-charged punches to whoever this guy was, however, nothing seemed to affect him at all. But what shocked me the most is that this villain did nothing but glare at him, and he was suddenly knocked out heavily injured. Then, he opened his mouth and said: "It's really strange of you, people. I can't understand how you all are protecting the reason for why you're all here in the afterlife. If it weren't for him, none of you would have been dead now."
At that moment, the blood froze in my veins. Did hear that right? Was what he just said true? Could I have caused the death of my friends?! How? How is that possible?! There's no way I'll turn my back on them, let alone kill them! But wait, what if they...? Oh. No. NO! Could they die p-protecting me?! Was I that weak to the point of not protecting them and letting them die before following them?! This... this can't be true! This all must be a lie! Please, somebody, tell me it's a lie! PLEASE!
Finally, the nightmare was over. I opened my eyes to find myself back in my bed in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. The first thing I've done was check my friend and thankfully, he was still lying asleep on his bed. I've let a little sigh of relief but I couldn't have forgotten that nightmare. I thought about it deeply in my mind: could my weakness one day cause the death of my beloved ones? I don't know, and I surely don't wanna know the answer.
I stood up from my seat, not willing to rest one other minute. And after I wore my battle armor, I went to the training area, ready to start training. I imagined my enemies surrounding me from everywhere, all ready to dash at me with all their might. I threw punches here and there, blasted Ki blasts on right and left, trying my best to eliminate all of them at once. I barely managed to defeat Frieza last time. Now, I won't stop till I surpass his father, the headmaster of the Frost Demons clan: The Great King Cold. And soon, the time will come when I surpass his son and firstborn, Emperor Cooler. The memories of that nightmare started to play again in my mind, causing my eyes to be blinded with anger and fury. Then I remembered the words of Kacchan, Aizawa-sensei, and All Might.
It's really hopeless for me to be a hero if I'll need someone to save me each time I save a person in need.
I unleashed One For All at 100% not noticing how the ground around me started to shake, and so, I started my rampage destroying whatever comes in my way until suddenly, I felt a hand catching me by my right arm, stopping me from causing more chaos. Without thinking, I quickly recognized whose hand is this. Well, I'm not surprised he woke up after all those blasts I've launched. I turned my head to face and surprisingly, he didn't seem angry at all. Instead, a smile was drawn across his face. I said to him feeling some guilt in me: "I've woke you up, haven't I? Sorry about what I've done, Gohan."
"It's okay," he replied, "I know the effects of anger and sadness in people: they can sometimes turn you into a killing machine."
I tried to deny that so I faked a smile and replied: "S-Sadness? Anger? W-What are you talking about? I just lost my focus no more. Now, if you excuse me, I'm going back to sleep."
I tried to escape him but, he was just so fast. He pulled me by the collar of my shirt, not willing to give up easily. Then, he said while smirking: "Come on. Who do you think you're lying to? I passed through these feelings many times when I was younger. I can tell if you're sad or not. Plus, you're not a good liar."
While he tried to eye-contact me, I was doing my best to avoid looking at him. Every time I see him now, I remember the dead, injured Gohan that I saw in my dream. I couldn't imagine my friend, my best friend, the person that always gets me like no one else, being dead and thrown in hell with the rest of my friends. It's just... It's just so much for me to handle. I couldn't sustain it anymore. I've let my childish side overpower me and collapsed to the ground, shedding tears from my eyes like a crybaby.
Obviously, my friend ran to me quickly and asked me with worry: "Izuku! Izuku, what's the matter?! Did I say something that bothered you? If that's the case then I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"Why?" I whispered.
"Huh?"
"Why should things always go this way?" I cried with a broken voice, "Why should I always be a BIG crybaby that needs always to be looked after!? It always plays the same: I get in trouble and someone must come to help me. I get in trouble and someone must come to help me. But when I try to help others, I do nothing but make things worse. Why should I always be the USELESS Deku!?" Finally, I expressed what was within me. I had finally said what I always wanted to say. After doing so, I sat on the ground and buried my head in my hands, and continued to sob tears calmly while still blaming myself for whatever happened or will happen to my friends.
Gohan on the other hand, stood speechless in his place. The last and only time he saw me in this state was one year ago when we met All Might for the first time. He didn't know what to do this time, but surely he hated seeing me broken like that. He sat next to me and placed a hand on my shoulder, then he started rubbing my back softly, thinking of something to tell me that might help me feel better.
After a few minutes of silence between the two of us, he whispered in my ear: "Feeling better now?"
"Kind of, " I responded while still sobbing calmly.
"You know Izuku, if something bothering you, then it's better to let it all out and share your problems with others. That's how I managed to accept my father's death if you remember."
I thought for a while, and maybe he's right. I should not keep this pain inside. If there's someone I can truly trust in this case, it's definitely Gohan. I lifted my head and looked at Gohan in the face, with my eyes in tears. I asked him: "I was just thinking about (sob) my actions and their (sob) consequences... (sob) I thought about the day (sob) when the villains attacked us and I (sob) I did zero damage to those villains... (sob) I thought of what the future might be hiding for both of us... (sob) I thought if my weakness one day will... will..."
"Will what?"
"Will KILL YOU! Can't you see it, Gohan!? I'm just so weak compared to you! I cannot save you when you need me! All I'm successful in is sitting down and watch or cry like a child!" I suddenly realized what I had just done. I did it again. I unleashed all my anger and sorrow on my best friend again. I didn't know exactly how to respond to him now. I just... I just turned my face away from him and waited for his response to me.
Gohan tried to eye contact me again but I kept avoiding looking at him with guilt and shame till he finally asked me: "Is that what's been bothering you?" I nodded my head in response. But surprisingly, he started to chuckle before his chuckle turned into a loud laugh. I was dumbfounded and confused by this strange act of his. But what really shocked me the most is how he placed his hands around my waist before he lifted me up in the air and walked back with me to the living area while carrying me front-carry style and saying with a laugh: "Izuku, you're always the same. You'll never change at all."
I couldn't understand this. Was he mocking me? Was he not taking my problem seriously? I... didn't understand anything. I just got angrier than before and yelled in his face: "Gohan! Don't take this as a joke! I'm serious about what I'm saying! Now put me down!" Yet, for some reason, he just kept laughing. When I asked him what was so funny about this, he stretched his hand and wiped my tears gently while saying: "Izuku, listen to me. I know this may seem hard for you, but you gotta understand: being inferior to others doesn't make you weak! (I was cut off guard with this strange response of his. I didn't understand what he meant by this till he continued) Izuku, each one of us passed through circumstances different from the other. If you consider yourself weak just because I'm more powerful than you, then you must put in mind that each of us took different paths.
It's been just a bit over a year since you started training and you already surpassed Frieza!
I, on the other hand, I'm... different. This great power of mine was probably born with me due to the fact that I'm a hybrid. I trained for seven consecutive years with none stop till I finally managed to reach this level. Add to this the fact that my hidden power was unleashed thanks to Grand Elder Guru. Even Vegeta himself was training since he started to walk... or at least that's what he told me.
What I'm trying to say is that you're still at the beginning of your path. I know it seems hard for you that you can't save everyone but trust me, I understand this feeling. You... you know that I understand this feeling (he said that while a flashback was played in his mind featuring all of his friends that died in front of him while he just watched. Tien, Chaotzu, Yamcha, Piccolo, Dende, Vegeta, Killin, Trunks, Sixteen, and... his father. All of them died while he couldn't do anything to prevent them from facing that fate. However, this time, he managed to hold back his emotions. He finally accepted the fact that this was their destiny. Now, his friend must also learn the same.). In your life, you'll sometimes say goodbye to your beloved ones. But you must accept the truth, that what happened... has happened."
At that moment, I didn't know what to say. I just kept staring at him in the eyes while holding him. I asked him then with a broken voice: "And let's assume that... One day... I'll... I'll be the cause of... your death."
"Then I want to know... that I forgive you." Just then, I felt a strange feeling inside of me. I didn't know what it was... But I liked it. It felt like a mix of safety, tranquility, happiness, and comfort. I felt that... whenever I was between Gohan's hands, nothing could possibly happen to me. So I hold tight to him and whispered in his ear: "Promise me."
"Huh?"
"Promise me to never EVER let yourself die!" After saying so, I felt him putting his hand on my head and rubbing my hair softly before whispering: "I promise." Finally, I was able to forget it. I finally forgot that dead bloody Gohan that I saw in my dream. I looked into his face again to see his warmth full smile of his across his face before it turned into a chuckle, and that chuckle turned into a laugh.
"Hey, you didn't tell me why you were laughing."
"Oh, nothing. It's just, believe it or not, when you cry or get angry, you kinda look... cute."
"W-What!?" I exclaimed with surprise and shock.
"Y-Yes," he said while looking away, "you remind me a lot of Goten. That's one of the reasons why I enjoy being in company with you."
C-Cute? N-Nobody had called me this before. Not even the girls have told such a nice word before. Wait a minute. My face blushed like a tomato when this idea came to my mind. Is... Is Gohan...? No. NO! NO WAY he could be! Gohan can't be what I think he is! S-Should I... ask him? No. No need to. I'm sure he isn't what I think he is. But again, I won't feel comfortable till I assure he isn't. A little question won't bother at all, will it?
I was lost in my thoughts and didn't notice that we reached the living area till I felt Gohan putting me in my bed and wishing me a good night. When he was about to go back to sleep, I asked him to stop so I could ask him something. I took a deep breath and questioned him: "Look, Gohan, I... I want you to tell me something... about our relation."
"Our relation?" this phrase took his attention so he sat on my bed and spoke: "what's about it."
"You... You don't... Love me, do you?" I asked nervously.
He rolled his eyes as if this thing kind of annoyed him and responded: "Seriously, buddy? After this little speech of ours, do you still think that I could hate such a kind soul like you? I don't blame you for shouting at me earlier but-"
"No," I interrupted, "I didn't mean that."
"What?" said Gohan confusingly.
"What I meant is... You're not in love with me like-"
"WHAAAT!?" That phrase of mine was more than enough for him to understand what was I trying to say. His face got red like a tomato as I'd never seen before. The anger and embarrassment were clear on his face. Maybe this was a dumb idea, but it was too late. He started to shake me rapidly while shouting: "IZUKU MIDORIYA! GET THIS DUMB SILLY IDEA OUT OF THIS MIND OF YOURS! I MIGHT LOVE YOU LIKE MY BABY BROTHER BUT I COULD NEVER. EVER. LOVE YOU THAT FAR! NEITHER CAN YOU! SO KEEP ME OUT OF THESE PERVERTED CRAZY FANTASIES OF YOURS!"
After saying so, he went back to his bed, yet he still seemed affected by what I asked him. I knew that Gohan could possibly have such feelings for me, but at least it was worth questioning. Honestly, I was glad that nobody would know what I questioned him, nobody... except for one. I didn't realize that back then, but since the minute I woke up, Vegeta was already awake. I was so focused on training that I didn't notice him or feel his presence. Neither did Gohan. It seems that he heard the whole dialogue between the two of us. Well, I don't think it matters. At the end of the day, Vegeta isn't the kind of person who'll tell your secrets to others.
I begin to yawn and in a matter of seconds, I fell into a deep comfortable sleep. I finally managed to sleep after getting those silly ideas of my weakness and being useless out of my mind. However, the same cannot be said for the others.
Gohan's P.O.V.
I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku! I'm not in love with Izuku!
End of P.O.V.
Six hours later, the three Z-Fighterz woke up from their sleep with high spirits and raising hope for today's training, or so were two of them. The eldest son of Son Goku couldn't sleep the entire night with the thought of what Izuku asked him. He never imagined him to ask him such a thing. Sure, he expected this to come as an insult from Bakugou -and he was ready to deal with him if he dare to spill this out of his mouth- but Midoriya of all people!? Now that was unexpected at all.
Suddenly, he was cut out of his imagination with the voice of his mentor shouting his name and ordering him to hurry up and join them. Without thinking, he threw his thoughts away and ran as fast as the wind to their direction. In the end, the last thing he'd want is to anger the prince of Saiyans or go through troubles with him.
After the two stood in front of him, Vegeta IV announced today's training saying with a serious tone: "Alright, now. To make things clear, and to see how much progress each of you made in these past weeks, you two are going to fight against each other alone and this time, you both are allowed to use as much energy as you want."
"You hear that Izuku," exclaimed the tall teen with excitement, "I'll finally battle you at your best! It's your chance to show me your full power!"
"I don't think it's that impressive for now," replied the green-haired male, "If my calculations were right, you'd need only 10% of Super Saiyan's power to match me."
"Hey, that's not a bad thing. You're actually the only human on Earth who can force me to use its power, and that's a great progression." Hearing his response, the young teenager could do nothing but smile back at his classmate and feel proud of himself.
"Alright, enough talking!" yelled the Saiyan Prince, "I don't wanna hear words, I wanna see you in action! So go on!"
The two heroes-in-training took their fighting position before dashing at each other, forming a massive wind pressure in the area. In an instant, the two disappeared from the sight and appeared as if they were instantly teleporting everywhere.
The 9th One For All user was trying his best to gain a little advantage or find a weak point in his opponent to win. He knew Gohan for so long and he knew that he was almost an invincible being. Whatever he does, the Saiyan could reverse it at him with one single normal punch. He knew that till now, he was far away from using his full power, which really annoyed him. He unleashed his power to the maximum, trying to unleash any hidden power inside of him, and then, it happened.
Out of the arm of All Might's successor, a series of black tendrils emerged, shocking the two Saiyans. Soon, the black tendrils grew larger and larger and started to cause destruction all around the area, destroying whatever came in its way.
"W-What the heck is this!?" screamed the hybrid human with shock and worry.
"This is no good," thought the prince.
Midoriya himself had no idea what was that thing and why it was happening to him. He only felt a terrible pain in his arm that from it emerged these tendrils. He tried to control it, but he couldn't. It was as if these things were the ones controlling him.
Thinking fast, Vegeta teleported quickly behind his pupil before rendering him unconscious using a karate chop on the back of his neck, leading to the black tendrils returning from where they emerged.
The full-blooded Saiyan placed the 15-year old male on the ground before he and Gohan took a look at the destruction that was caused by these things, wondering what it was and how did it come out of Midoriya's arm.
