"Guess who's back? Back again? Casey's back, tell a friend!"
Oh, whoops, wrong lyrics. XD Anyway, enjoy the next chapter!
Casey couldn't help but be nervous as she stood in the squad room all alone. She hadn't stepped foot in a squad room in ages, not since she'd been forced to leave her job several years before. She felt her breath hitch in her throat when she saw a brunette in black slacks and a white shirt walking into the captain's office. Is that..? She quickly composed herself with a sharp breath. "Olivia?"
Olivia was two steps away from her office when she heard a husky voice invade her ears. What the hell? She turned on her heels and spotted a tall, lean redhead with a piercing blue green stare. No way. No freaking way. "...Casey?"
"Yeah," the redhead grinned. "Long time no see."
"Uh… yeah, long time indeed." Olivia made her way over to the redhead and pulled her into a hug. "What are you doing here..?"
"Well… I'm no longer disbarred, and the DA's office put me back with SVU," Casey replied. "How's the team?"
"We're doing okay," Olivia replied shortly. "Fin and I are the only ones left from the original squad - Munch and Cragen both retired, and Elliot… left." She motioned to her office. "Why don't we talk in here and I'll bring you up to speed?"
"That's fine with me," Casey agreed. "So, is it Captain Benson now, then?"
"Uh, yeah, it is," Olivia lamented. "I wasn't expecting all of the political crap that came with this position, and I'm still not used to IAB crawling up my ass whenever someone decides to complain about one of my detectives for some reason or another…"
"Yeah, I never liked them, either," Casey agreed. "So, who's on the squad now, minus you, Fin, and Detective Cameron?"
Olivia offered a water bottle to Casey, who accepted it with a nod. "Besides us, there's Amanda Rollins, a transfer from Atlanta. I swear that she lives up to the charming aspect of the phrase 'Georgia Peach' whenever she's dealing with suspects."
"I've heard about Rollins," Casey smirked. "Damn good cop, that one. Heard she plays well with others."
"That she does," Olivia agreed, taking a sip from her own water bottle. "After Elliot left, the brass sent Nick Amaro to SVU to be my old partner… Things were a little rocky for a bit, and he didn't see eye-to-eye with ADA Barba."
"Rafael Barba? You're kidding!" Casey winced. "I heard that things went to hell with him, too."
"... yeah, that's one way to describe it," Olivia lamented. "Anyway, Amaro got into hot water and was suspended, and then the brass decided to demote and reassign him to Queens."
"Damn," Casey muttered. "So it's just the four of you..?"
Olivia shook her head. "Oh, definitely not. Dominick Carisi, Jr. came in as Amaro's temporary replacement, and we partnered him with Rollins. Guess the brass deemed him a good fit because he's one of ours now, and is one of the best that we've ever seen. Then we were blessed with one Katriona Tamin, and she's been nothing but a hellfire in all of the best ways."
"I've definitely missed a lot," Casey marveled. "Seems like you have a solid team of six."
"Oh yeah," Olivia smirked. "Detective Cameron is the newest, so I partnered him up with Rollins for now. I might have him work with Tamin when she gets back from vacation, though." She sipped her water once again. "I'm sure that Fin will be happy to have you back, and that everyone else will love you."
"Well, I've already met Detective Cameron," Casey chuckled. She noticed Olivia's raised eyebrow. "He seems… sweet."
Casey's tone forced Olivia to raise an eyebrow. "Are you flirting with my squad members, Casey?"
"Oh, goodness, no!" Casey defended. "We ran into each other and introduced ourselves. Then I asked him if he'd seen you, and he directed me to your office." She couldn't help but blush. "Although he is quite handsome, and most likely charming…"
"Oh, he is," Olivia chuckled. "Anyway… it's good to have you back. Fin's gonna be happy to see you, and I'm sure that the rest of the team will love working with you."
"I hope so." Casey gave Olivia one last grin. "A lot has changed since I left… I just hope that I don't screw up again."
"You won't," Olivia assured. "The BAR association gave you your license back, and you've been reinstated as the ADA."
"Yeah, you're right." Casey finished the last of her water. "...I should get back to the office or my boss will hand me my ass on a silver platter."
Olivia couldn't help but chuckle at Casey's words. "Yeah, I understand. I'll let you know if we find anything or make any arrests, okay?"
"Sounds good to me," Casey agreed before wrapping her friend in a warm hug. "I'll see you around, Liv."
"Yeah, see yah, Casey."
