The Chains that Guide a Hero

Chapter 3

I've got something interesting and special planned for this story. As well as where the Neuron operatives stand in the hero society. So on with the show.

(No POV)

In the two weeks since the Neuron operatives had arrived in Tokyo bay, the country of Japan underwent a variety of changes. As they were the closest to the misty mass that hid the Ark, they were the first to reap the benefits of some of the technology that was brought from that side. They couldn't perfectly replicate the X-batons, but they could make copies of the goggles that allowed heroes to see chimeras. Though they came with a few drawbacks. Predominantly that it wasn't easy to adjust for shape changing quirks like Mt Lady or Ryukyu.

The next big change was that new courses would be added for heroes, police, rescue workers and emergency personal. Predominantly focused on rapid treatment of redshift on their side, and what some chimeras looked like. But there were those who felt that they wouldn't be able help in all the ways they wanted. Though it was a start. But the president of the hero commission and a few of the principals of hero schools had some ideas.

For the people from and on the Ark, after the ships had left and brought back food from the other side people were more incised to get more. They would still use fabricated materials for some things, but they could at least get good food and ingredients. And while they were closer to Japan, the mists were still unpredictable. At one point a convoy ended up on the east coast of the US rather than the west they had been aiming for.

At these stop locations though, they would leave at least two to four agents from Neuron to help with cases involved with chimeras. They all also aided everyday operations as well. Solving cases and capturing criminals as well or better than some heroes could. Many saw this as a good trend. As they had the potential match heroes when originally, the police were mainly used for backup.

And this was what the current hero commission was planning to work with. About a month before the UA and other hero schools entrance exams, Izuku and Sandra were called in to the hero commission office. "You wanted to see us?" Sandra asked first as they were walking into the large conference room. The president of the commission nodded before saying, "Indeed. Please sit. We have some matters to discuss." When the two had seated, Nezu began to ask a few questions about the two's intentions. He knew that Izuku wanted to be a student at UA and earn his own hero license.

But he wanted to know, "why do you wish to become a hero young Midoriya? You already have a successful career as an officer. Why do you want to go down that path?" Izuku barely hesitating to answer says, "I was inspired by All Might as a child. And back then I wanted to be a hero that could save everyone with a smile on my face. I may have an extra trick thanks to the Legions, but I still want to be that kind of hero." Nezu hums and nods after hearing his answer.

He then poses the question to Sandra, "what do you hope to do here? I know the chiefs of Neuron wanted the two of you to stay to help protect this area. But do you have your own wishes?" Sandra looks down and admits that, "I don't have a bit goal like Izuku. Aside from wanting to keep people safe from the threat of the Astral Plane; part of me….. well wants to see more of the world. I was born on the Ark. I've never known anything beyond it. And now that I'm on this side, I want to keep this world safe so that myself and others can enjoy the beauty that I was never able to grow up with." The commissioner and the principals of all nod with a smile, understanding that you may not appreciate something until it is lost.

With that, the commissioner stands up and picks up a pair of files. She walks over to the two agents, and with a smile says, "congratulations. That is much of what we wanted to hear. And these will help you to save and protect what you want." She hands them the files and inside are legal documents for them to sign. And in the corner are full licenses to note them both as heroes of Japan.

Izuku is completely floored by this and Sandra is surprised too. "I don't understand. Why are you giving us hero licenses?" "The truth is Neuron and its agents have been impressive heroes on their own. And you young Midoriya have basically been doing not only police work, but work equivalent of most hero work for the last two years. You have saved more people and protected more people than most who claim to be heroes now could ever do. You have been a true hero all along." The commissioner says with a smile, before explaining that they intend to do the same with other agents that may show up.

If they were new young agents, they would just be given provisional licenses. But most of the seasoned agents were considered equal to some of the best heroes in Japan. At hearing this, Izuku starts to tear up a bit. Sandra is quick to put her hand on his shoulder and accept the offer before her. So she signs the documents, and Izuku follows her lead after he has finished crying.

This was when Nezu and the principal of Shiketsu had an offer to make to both. "As you know, we've been implementing instructions for heroes and others to deal with the dangers from the Astral Plane. But we still need others who can explain more and have experience in these dangerous places. Our offer is that we would like both of you to teach at our schools." The female principal of Shiketsu says. Nezu goes on to explain that with their full licenses they have the qualifications to be hero teachers.

Izuku is of course shocked by this again, but Sandra can see their point. "We have much more experience than they do with chimeras and the Astral Plane. It's sensible to have us as teachers." "But given young Midoriya's age, we are considering him more akin to a teaching assistant you might say. I'd like you to help both hero classes on learning what chimeras are and what the Astral Plane is and what it can do to people." Nezu says before saying that he would be primarily teaching at UA university. And Sandra would mainly be instructing at Shiketsu.

"Miss Howard did mention that some more Neuron agents would be sent here. With them we could maybe start a curriculum relating to fighting chimeras. Let alone those who have high potential from our side." The commissioner explained before accepting the documents from both officers. Izuku was still shocked and nodded dumbly. Sandra was shaking her head a bit at his reaction and was going to give him a bit of a hard time later.

With those matters out of the way, Nezu and the principal of Shiketsu offered both agents a ride to the universities they would be teaching at. "Good luck, Mr. Midoriya….. or I guess it would be Midoriya-sensei here, wouldn't it?" Sandra says in a teasing manner. Izuku sputters a bit, but realizes she's just teasing him. But he still appreciates all she did for him and his family. "Take care of yourself, Sandy-nee. Maybe we'll work together again." He says with a smile, and said big sister brings him into a hug. With that moment done, both new hero teachers head for their respective universities.

When Izuku first arrives, he is in awe of the school. 'I had hoped to study here my whole life. And instead, I'm teaching here. This could be interesting.' "I suppose that is one way to look at the matter." Izuku hears behind him. He turns and sees a strange man in a yellow sleeping bag on the ground. And while Izuku is processing this strange creature, he realizes he said those other thoughts out loud. As he's facepalming, the man in the sleeping bag gets out and stands.

He introduces himself with, "I'm Aizawa Shota. I'm the lead teacher for one of the hero classes. And I guess you are my new colleague and assistant." Izuku coughs a bit before introducing himself. "Yeah, I know who you are. Your face was all over the news for quite a while after the announcement about what lies beyond that fog. I'd normally call it irrational. But I guess we have the example right here." He says looking over Izuku in his unarmored officer uniform. With a nod, Aizawa invites the 20-year-old in to meet his fellow teachers.

"So this is the young man who was spirited away and came back to save all of us. He's quite the cute snack there." The R-rated heroine Midnight said with a lick of her lips. Izuku blushed before pulling his cap down a bit more on his head. Snipe was the one to mention to her to dial back the walking rapist act. "He is a cop, and I'm pretty sure he knows plenty of ways to lock you up." "Oh, I'm sure. In fact, I'm curious about these Legion things. As well as what you can do with them."

Aizawa realizes what she is getting at and suggest they go to field gamma so he can demonstrate. So, all of the teachers head out to the location, and put on the goggles to see the Legion itself. Izuku attached his Legatus to his arm and drew his X-baton. Aizawa called in a few robots for Izuku to practice on. He started by engaging the robots with the blaster function, shooting combos of shots at the targets. "Not bad shooting skills. But he just seems to focus on a spray and pray strategy. Though given those things never run out of ammo, it makes sense." Snipe commented as they watched.

When it looked like Izuku was going to get struck by a sneak attack, he quickly slides out of the way of the attack before using a combo of kicks to send the robot flying. "Nice reflexes too. Given the stuff he fights, it makes sense that he'd always have to watch his back." Izuku decides to kick it up a notch and switch to gladius mode. With the state he cleaves through multiple robots at once and stops some of the hits they throw his way.

When a few more robots show up, he unleashes his Sword Legion. "So that's a Legion. Those blades look wicked." Vlad King says while watching the two fight. Then Izuku does something strange. He throws his arm out, and the Legion follows. But once it has reached a high point, the Legion yanks the chain and pulls Izuku up to where it is floating. The two then dive down and combo pattern strike together. "So that is how a Legionis fights." Present Mic says in an uncharacteristically quiet voice.

To some of them the way the two fight the robots, is almost like a dance. Even more so when Izuku unleashes powerful timed combo strikes. He then switches up his Sword for the Axe Legion when larger robots appear. Right when the other teachers think he is about to be squashed, the blow is stopped in the air by the Axe Legion's barrier. The two then cleave through more of the robots before a huge robot (zero pointer) appears and some small ones around it.

"Isn't this a little extreme Aizawa?" "No. I read part of his file. He's faced odds like this before and won. I want to see if we can even push him." The scarf wearing hero says. Izuku sighs, before switching to his oldest partner: The Arm Legion. It smashes through most of the smaller bots with little effort, and Izuku blasts and disrupts the others around it. Combo attacking again and again with energy shots.

But to face the big robot, he floats inside of the Legion. "Whoa seriously?! He can do that! I heard this was what broke Endeavor before he was healed." Are some of the things said around the observation room. And they are dumbstruck when Izuku and the Legion just start smashing piece after piece of the huge robot off. And with one final punch, they blast the top half of the robot into oblivion.

While some are intimidated, others are impressed by the power potential. When they meet up at the entrance, Midnight was the first to say, "That was impressive. Are there other things you can do with that leash?" The rest of the teachers give her a deadpan look and Izuku just sighs. "Yes, and would you like a demonstration?" With a nod from Midnight, Izuku decides to mess with her a bit. He deploys his Legion, and slowly moves it around her. She can see it but can't understand what he is doing.

With a small smirk, Izuku quickly crosses by his Legion and chains Midnight up. "That is chain binding. I can use it to restrain targets and chimeras. Uh you okay there?" Izuku says while Midnight has a bit of a blush on her face. She smiles up with a sultry look and says, "I thought you might be a little kinky, but you blew my expectations out of the water. And I'm quite happy about it in more way." This make Izuku blush again and explains that all of the Legions can do that, and each have a specific extra power.

"Sword Legions can interrupt electrical signals as well as cutting through even wireless transmissions. Axe Legions can defend and project their barrier as you move. In my Arm Legion, I don't have to worry about threats on the ground and can fight in it. As you saw. Arrow Legions allow for precision sniping. Beast Legions can be ridden and can track people… well theoretically across continents." At mentioning that they question why and how that is possible. "They don't track scent the same way. It's like they can follow the DNA. And even dead they can still be tracked. But we never had the chance to test it since….. well the Ark isn't that big." A few of the pros nod solemnly.

With his demonstration done, Aizawa and the rest help Izuku settle into his new role as an instructor. For the next few months, he works with all of them. Both as a teacher and as a hero solving cases. He quickly gains a reputation, though most don't know how to vote for him. Sandra has similar experiences, but she works more closely with the police themselves. The two often end up going into the Astral Plane to save people who had been taken.

But now Izuku has a new challenge. His first day as a true teacher. "Oh my stomach is burning. I think I'm gonna be sick." "You run into a realm occupied by demons and creatures with only the intent to kill, and standing in front of a bunch of students makes you nervous?" Aizawa says with an incredulous look on his face. When Izuku gives him a pained look, he sighs before saying he'll go in first. "I'll introduce you after I've told them a few details." Izuku nods at this and Aizawa does just that.

For some in the class though, they are wondering where a certain student should be. 'I thought with that crazy power Izu had, he'd be able to get into the hero course no problem. Then again, I guess he is a cop now. Maybe he doesn't see the point to that.' Bakugo thinks to himself. For one Yaoyorozu Momo though, she is looking around and wondering if her father's request to have Izuku added as a recommended student was accepted.

Aizawa notes this and asks her about it. "It's just….. well the young man who was on that report a few weeks back. I knew him. I met him and his family while on a trip to Hokaido. He saved me and my father. Even when we were in the Astral Plane he saved us. I had thought he might be here." At hearing that Bakugo is stunned that she knew more about what happened to Izuku. And the rest of the class is impressed with the heart that officer had shown even as a child.

Aizawa smile before saying, "He's around. Just not the way you would think. You can come in now." At that the door slides open and Izuku walks in. Decked out in his dress uniform with a pair of glasses on, he looks much more professional compared to the shabby and exhausted looking Aizawa. "Hello everyone. My name is Midoriya Izuku and I'll be both your hand to hand instructor, as well as teaching all of you about chimeras and the Astral Plane. Um…. Any questions?" Izuku opens up and leaves the floor open to the students. Some of whom are just completely dumbstruck by the current turn of events.

I'm gonna leave it there for now. I've got some other things to work on and this felt like a decent tension moment to leave off on. Please review.
