The Chains that Guide a Hero

Chapter 4

So now we are getting into a different story line with Izuku being a teacher at UA, while being the same age as the rest of the students. I'll admit I haven't thought about this one as much as a few others given how popular they are. So to the guest who has been responding and is a fan, sorry. But hopefully you enjoy where I am going with this storyline. Now then. On with the show.

(No POV)

After a stating who he was and what he was instructing all of the students on, Izuku was able to calm down a bit. The students though, especially two in particular, were shell shocked at the reveal and the explanation of who their new instructor was. One of the first to snap out of the surprise was the engine legged young man, Ida Tenya. And he responded with, "so you are the one from our side who got pulled to the other world? And you have been fighting and helping the heroes and police on our side as well?" "Yes I have. In fact, that is part of why I'm here as an instructor. Or rather instructor's assistant for now. Because of what we Neuron agents have fought before, the commission felt it was right to award us true hero licenses, as well as investigator privileges. That way we can better help save and help this side," Izuku says while pulling out his badge and license to show the students.

This amazes more of them, though one explosive fellow is just stunned at the fact that his old quirkless friend was already so far ahead of him. 'Looks like I'll have to work insanely hard to catch up to him. But I guess it makes sense he would be the hero to inspire others,' Bakugo thinks to himself. For Momo though she sees this matter as very fortuitous. Though she may have to get to know Izuku as a teacher more so, she could still be close to the boy she had met in the northern Japan so long ago. Also, the fact he was basically her teacher now made her think of some very steamy images.

Once the class had settled down, Aizawa decided to get down to the first test he had in mind. "You can take a break for now Midoriya. I want to test each of these student's potential." "Huh?" Izuku says with a skeptical look. Aizawa then gets a few phys ed uniforms out and tells each of the students to meet at the UA University fitness center. Izuku tags along anyway to see what the lead teacher for Hero course 1-A had in mind. Once at the field, he nodded and told all of them, "today you'll be taking the standard physical evaluation tests. But with a twist. You can use your quirks however you want."

Izuku's eyes widen and then he realizes what the underground hero has in mind. "I see. You want them and yourself to see what their maximum potential with their quirks. Though for some that might be kind of difficult right?" Izuku asks as he looks over the students' data that the school provided. 'While one's like Katsuki or Momo will have little problem, others like Hagakure who is just invisible or the suggested student Aizawa chose Shinso would have much more trouble with the tests. But that is exactly what he is after.' While Izuku is thinking this Aizawa calls up the top scoring applicant. "Bakugo, I want you to throw the ball as far as you can using your quirk. Don't worry about damage. Just put out the best you can."

With a nod Bakugo takes the ball from Aizawa, and readies for his throw. With the strongest throw he can muster and all of the output he can at the current stage, he cries out, "EAT THIS!" And throws the ball. When the measuring device comes back it reads 755 meters. But when a pink skin and haired girl named Ashido Mina calls out on how fun this will be, Aizawa is quick to dash their hopes. "The person who comes in last during this exam will be expelled," he says callously. When the pink cheeked brunette Uraraka Ochaco tells him that isn't fair, it is Izuku who brings them back to reality as well.

"This isn't a game. There is a good chance you all could die. I got a very up-close look at it when I was a child. One of the Neuron agents that saved me and Yaoyorozu's families died that day. A storm will never wait just because you aren't ready for it. A villain won't always fight you head on and will often take hostages. And chimera's will rip you to shreds if you aren't careful or ready for them," Izuku says with a stern look in his eyes. Momo's eyes widen thinking about the others who saved her and her family years ago. Bakugo is much the same thinking about how much his old friend had grown in the 15 years he had been away. The rest of section 1-A look down and have nervous looks on their faces.

Izuku takes a deep breath before continuing with, "you're aiming to be heroes. You are not playing pretend anymore. Welcome to the Hero Course." Aizawa nods in appreciation and slight admiration. He knew well the weight of what it means to be a hero and he often pushed his students so they would understand that weight as well. To hear it from a young agent and hero was refreshing.

So, with that out of the way, the rest of the tests could commence. Many of the students had shown creative uses of their quirks during each of the tests, but there were still some who fell short. Much like Izuku figured, Hagakure wasn't quite at the same capability with her quirk. He decided to take a look at her with his IRIS to get a better idea on how her quirk worked. When he looked, he saw that the light wasn't just bending around her. She seemed to absorb the light. "Aizawa. Got a second? I think we need to consider a few other things," Izuku said to his elder.

Aizawa nodded and told the students to rest for a few minutes. "I'm half guessing you weren't planning to expel most of them, but I thought I should bring a few things to your attention." Izuku then showed with his Legatus what he saw with some of the students and what he built as probable growth directions for quite a few of them. The insomniac hero was impressed at Izuku's forethought into what their students could do. And he even thought of a way to spin this to him still being a hard ass, and Izuku being a more sympathetic teacher.

With the tallies up after the distance run, the student rankings were set. The two at the bottom though were Shinso Hitoshi and Hagakure Toru. Both tying for last place, and both of whom were tearing up a bit at their standing. 'Even with Aizawa-sensei recommending me and trying to help me grow, I still couldn't measure up!' Shinso berated himself mentally. While Toru was struggling with the fact she tried her best but her quirk couldn't boost her physically.

"Now then. To the two who scored the lowest," Aizawa said with a deadpan look on his face. Izuku had his eyebrow raised in worry, but he was hoping that the Erasure hero took his suggestions to heart. "Normally I would expel you. But our newest instructor pointed out that there are greater tactical applications for certain quirks. Obviously, I know some of your limitations Shinso, but Midoriya here has a few ideas on how you can bring out your maximum. As for Hagakure, Midoriya took a look at you with some special equipment and has a few ideas on what you could do outside of just infiltration and stealth skills. So….. no one is getting expelled today." At hearing that both of them dropped to their knees in relief. Internally both of them were thanking Izuku for sticking up for them.

With that done, Aizawa decides to have a different bit of fun with his teaching partner. "Okay Izuku. I want you to take the tests as well. Both with and without your Legions please." "Say what?" Izuku said with a puzzled expression. Aizawa laughs a bit before explaining that he wanted the students to see more of what a Legionis could do. Said students were intrigued by the suggestion. Most had seen the reports about the Neuron agents but they knew very little about what they did or how they fought.

With a disgruntled sigh, Izuku stepped up for the 50-meter dash. His first set of attempts he focused more on his physical attributes, and he scored roughly even with the 13th place student. With a nod Aizawa brought up one of his points to having Izuku do this. "Midoriya here is in peak physical condition and is a capable officer and hero. While I do want to see what the full capabilities you can call up with your quirks are, never forget the base of physical training and combat. It is one of the things he will be instructing each of you on. Now could you do the tests again. This time with the Legions."

With a nod Izuku began the test once more. This time though, Aizawa used the projector that he used with a filter from the Ark. With the light it projected, the students could see the Legions if nothing else. For the 50-meter dash, Izuku launched his Sword Legion forward and then had it yank him as fast as possible. This brought him in at roughly four seconds.

For the softball throw, he not only did a strong throw using his Arm Legion, but he also used precision with his newly acquired Arrow Legion to launch the ball even further to 700 meters. The grip strength test though he completely used the Arm Legion and demolished the measuring device. With the long jump he used multiple chain jumps, and during the distance run he used his Beast Legion to ride through the whole course. The rest of the tests though were just going to be a repeat of the first attempt, so Aizawa stopped him.

With that the new tally was brought up and Izuku was brought roughly even with the top two students, being Momo and Todoroki Shoto. "And that shows a good combination of both physical conditioning and making the most of the powers you may or may not have yet. I didn't know you had gotten the Arrow or Beast."

"I earned both about a week ago. Still working out the bugs," Izuku said with a shrug. Aizawa then continued explaining that their jobs at UA would not only be to push all of the students on their potential with their quirks. "But also, to push your mental capabilities in stressful situations, and to be ready for possible counters to the quirks you may have. Midoriya though will be focused on teaching each of you about not just hand to hand combat, but about the Chimeras that are invading our world."

Izuku takes this moment to explain a bit about the Chimeras. "The Legions I use are in fact captured and tamed Chimeras. My job as a Neuron agent focuses on multiple things, but I use my Legions for much of it. Including investigations, combat, rescues, and tracking. In the next few weeks, I'll cover a few of the basic Chimeras you may encounter on certain jobs as heroes. But don't think that will ever be the end. Because threats are always changing and evolving." Once Izuku has said that he tells Toru to meet with him after class to discuss a few things involving her power.

"Man those Legion thing were cool. But hearing just a little bit about what Midoriya-sensei has seen….. I can't imagine doing it," the electrification user Kaminari Denki said as the guys were changing after the tests. The red headed hard head Kirishima Eijiro though says, "it just makes the guy all the more manly in my opinion! To stand up to and face off with stuff that can scare or take down some pro heroes. I bet there's plenty he can show us."

He and a few others notice the slightly downtrodden look that Bakugo has, so the tape elbowed Hanata Sero decides to break the ice. "Hey, uh Bakugo right? Did you know him from somewhere before? I mean we knew that that hot girl knew him, but you seemed just as surprised that he's a teacher." The ash blonde looks up at his classmate with a far off look in his eyes.

He sighs before saying, "yeah I knew him. We grew up together, but I thought he had died back after….. well his trip to Hokaido. Him and his family. But seeing him now. He's outpaced me even more than I knew he would." While the rest don't understand what the explosive blonde means, he keeps mulling over it in his head. How Izuku had a heart that was always concerned about others, even when they were little. And now that same little kid was a super cop that was not only at peak fitness but could command monsters that could fight on par with pro heroes. Let alone having saved multiple lives and even stopping some villains, with him and the female agent aiding everyone from the Endeavor agency to Ingenium.

For Momo and a few of the other girls, they were talking about not just their police officer teacher but also about some of the others in their course group. "Gotta say, I didn't expect you to know a teacher right off the bat there Yaoyorozu. And from the look on your face, you might have been hoping to be extra close with him hm?" Mina said with a shit eating grin on her face. Momo just blushed and looked away before the earphone jack girl Jiro Kyoka asked her about how she seemed to know Kirishima.

Momo admitted to herself that the pink skinned girl wasn't wrong. 'I had maybe hoped to thank him and maybe get to know him better. I still remember playing and how sweet he seemed for the week we were in Hokaido. Let alone the fact he saved me and my father. And then what little I remember when we were in the astral plane, he still tried to protect us.' But now she was mulling over the fact that said boy she admired was now her teacher. So, she decided to focus more on becoming the hero she hoped to be and that Izuku would be proud of.

With said teacher though he was currently meeting with the invisible Toru about what she could do going forward. "I'm sure you know some of this, but your quirk allows you to absorb light." "Wait it does!?" Toru asked excitedly.

At hearing that Izuku's eyes widen and he facepalms. "Okay I guess we have to start from the beginning. Anyway, yes your power does allow you to absorb and redirect light. A simple application that you could do with your course mates would be something like redirecting Aoyama's laser or perhaps amplifying the effects of a flashbang or just a flash grenade. You could also do that yourself and blind… I'm about to start on a long spiel so I'll stop for now." Izuku stops himself before he starts into a mumbling session, and Toru chuckles a bit at her teacher's eccentricities.

She then asks how he knew how her power worked. He points to his eyes before saying, "it's a perk of the Neuron work. We all are issued a special set up called IRIS that allows us to use augmented reality to get better details about a case we are working on. I can see a variety of light spectrums, as well as body heat and similar. So, I could see what you actually looked like. You're quite cute." At hearing that Toru invisibly blushes, while Izuku is continuing on with some explanations.

At the end he discusses with the invisible girl a few applications she can do now, before asking if she wanted to meet for some other counseling sessions. "Yeah, that would be good. Thanks, Midoriya-sensei!" Toru says before leaving the teachers lounge. "Well it looks like you are settling into your role after all. Not too bad for your first day," Vlad King says walking up behind the young teacher. Izuku smiles before admitting that, "Aizawa helped by taking an initial bad guy stance and then framing me as a more sympathetic teacher. I know I have to meet with your group as well. Sorry about focusing on 1-A today." Vlad just chuckles a bit before saying it was fine. "Just make sure to give my group a good run down for tomorrow. I'm counting on you….. Midoriya-sensei," Vlad says with a gruff tease.

Izuku just laughs a bit before going over a few details for the next few classes. Then there is a knock at the teachers lounge and two students come into the room. The first is Momo and she is followed by Bakugo. Present Mic is one to say to them, "hey listeners! What can we do for you?" Momo looks over to Izuku and she asks, "could we have a moment of your time Midoriya-sensei. I think we both have some things we want to say to you."

I am really sorry to those who might have been waiting on this one. But I hope you like at least this somewhat easygoing first look into Izuku's teacher life. Also, you may note that Bakugo is much less abrasive compared to usual self. That is due to thinking that Izuku was dead for so long, he would try to emulate the parts of him that were admirable. So, he could carry on Izuku's hopes and more of the dream they shared. Anyway, please review.
