Earth 1, Star City
FIRESTORM and ATOM were airborne. Other members of the Arrow/Legends team had taken whatever cover was available - behind a couple of upended tables, roof supporting pillars, an old filing cabinet, other doors leading off from the room they were in.
The first of the attackers burst into the room, before being quickly driven back by flaming bolts and those of compressed light. In case they had hadn't got the message, Oliver, Thea and Roy loosed off a few arrows. They retreated back into the corridor, but let off an occasional shot that didn't come anywhere near anybody among the defenders.
''They're going to try and outflank us'' Leonard told Nora, who had joined him behind one of the tables. 'And -'' He looked upwards. ''There.'' A half-balcony ran along one edge of the room.
''Uh-oh, she thought. That could be a problem.
She noticed the vague look in her companion's eyes - then felt something like a gust of wind as Carter and Kendra broke cover to fly up to the balcony. ATOM turned in that direction too. Useful, but it wouldn't to provide all that much protection if the attackers took to the high ground of the balcony in force.
Abruptly Leonard was murmuring in her ear ''The balcony's a ruse. They're going to come through there.'' He nodded towards a door in the corner, then sent her a mental image of what he was thinking. It was useful- very useful - to have someone who knew what was about to happen - but what he was planning was going to strain them both, particularly him. After this, he wouldn't have much left to give.
He must have been letting the others know as well. FIRESTORM had shifted to cover the balcony. The archers were setting what looked like trank arrows to their bows.
The attack on the balcony started. A second later, the door in the corner crashed open and the real attack began. Reinforcements had arrived since Felicity's heads-up - thirty people charged into the room. The defenders ducked out of sight, as much as they were able.
Now! She was the one who s actually thought it, but they both let loose at the same time. A blast of psychokinetic and telepathic power. Those attackers that weren't knocked off their feet, ended up crouched on the floor, dazed and confused.
Watching through the concealed cameras, Nikki was open-mouthed. She'd never really believed that kind of thing was possible. Now she'd have to study it. But first -
''Fall back''she spoke on a closed circuit - but too late for some of the attackers, who'd been felled altogether by arrows.
Despite the set-back, she grinned. She had a few more good tricks up her sleeve. She sent the first command. Even as the previous attackers were retreating, Chronos burst into the room. She flipped a switch on her console, changing the suit's settings. The burning-pair and the one in that clumsy looking metal suit fired even as she did so. There was a moment's surprise on her part as another suited figure appeared, loosing what she thought was some kind of EMP in Chronos' direction. His suit controls flickered for a moment then stabilised.
''Perfect'' she murmured to herself. Chronos' suit had just absorbed the other energy directed at it.
The archer in green fired an arrow that held some kind of electrical charge. It had the same effect. Now some of those with guns had started firing - which was completely useless against the Chronos suit.
''Go to work'' she told him.
Instead he stopped dead, then seemed to be trying to move his feet without success.
She cursed - more of the power she'd thought was rubbish - but she had an answer to that too. Throwing another switch, she told the occupant of the suit. ''You're on auto-pilot. Relax and enjoy the show.''
Now under her control, Chronos moved towards the defenders - invincible, she thought, unstoppable.
