Earth 1, Star City

Ray had made a quick trip to the hospital to give Sara a dose of the nanobots, to give to Leonard as soon as she could, then hurried back to continue helping to sort out the Mick/Chronos situation.

Most of the Legends team had been outside the Med Lab when he left, watching Rip and Martin remove the remains of the Chronos suit from the heavily sedated Mick. Some of them had drifted away when the extent of that Mick's injuries were on view. When Morris outlined what he needed to do, the rest discovered that they were needed elsewhere. Rip and Martin focussed most of their attention on the screens that showed life-support functions.

By the time, Ray arrived back and glanced into the Med Lab, the worst was over. Mick was lying on the table, minus his lower legs and part of his right arm. Ray did swallow, but found himself fascinated by the reconstruction process that Morris was now carrying out. New legs, arm, feet, hand were built before his eyes.

He realised that Nora was heading his way, holding a phone up to her ear. She looked at him, mouthing 'John Constantine' but kept listening to whatever the warlock was telling her. Apparently, it wasn't quite what she wanted to hear.

Nearly a hundred miles away, John told her ''I deal with magic, not psychic abilities, love. I don't have the foggiest how to set things back to how he was before the timeline got changed. As for stabilising his present condition - no way. The real God gave us free will - would he? You should thank your stars that he does have limitations.''

''Thanks'' she said drily and ended the conversation.

She did understand John's point of view. The idea of what she had to admit was a flawed person having the ability to control others minds whenever and wherever he chose to - well, it was scary. But she had an element of precognitive ability - she knew that somewhere in the future they were going to need all of Leonard's new abilities - and for him to be in full control of them.

Across the city, Dinah Drake let herself into her apartment and poured herself a stiff drink. She was certainly in need of one after all that had happened in the last few hours. She called her office and left a message she was handling the Stuart situation and would come into work in the afternoon.

She stared at her half-full glass for a moment, then put it down and went to get her photo album.

There were pictures in there of Vincent and her together. Dangerous as their work had been, it was in other ways a happy, uncomplicated, time. They were two cops who loved each other.

She turned rapidly to the section that started with pictures of her and Elaine, in their childhood, in their teenage years. They had quarrelled sometimes, but they were sisters and it was to Elaine that she'd turned. Saffron began to appear in the picture - as a baby in Elaine's arms, as a toddler. Bearing a small bouquet at Elaine's wedding. As part of Elaine's growing family, reaching her teenage years.

Dinah looked at the latest photo, taken at Saffron's fifteenth birthday party. Elaine and she had always thought they would tell Saffron the truth one day, when she was an adult.

'I'm your mother'' she told the image in the photo.

What would she say when Saffron asked about her father?
