This is a reboot of Adventuring with a System in One Piece. There are so many changes that I decided to reboot it under a new story.
The System is now a traits system only. If that bothers you, it's best to stop now. I got a large number of complaints about the system before because it wasn't the original Gamer System. I also got complaints about how my other system was inflating word count, so I decided to simplify it all so the focus can be more on the plot. I got tired of stories with overly helpful gamer systems that allow the MC (and sometimes friends) to grow insanely fast and be able to do anything.
People ask why I use an Indian name for my MC, regardless of the world I put him into. It's because I want to normalize Indian names. No one thinks twice about Caucasian, White, Black, Hispanic, or Japanese names. Even Chinese names have become more prevalent due to the popularization of translated web novels online. I want to do that for my own culture as well and motivate Indian authors to bring our names (and culture) into their fan-fiction and stories too.
Special thanks to Elias41 for allowing me to bounce ideas off of you regularly!
Chapter 1
I died.
I was in a car accident, and the other guy wasn't watching where he was going. Or was drunk.
I guess I'll never know.
When I realized I was reincarnated instead of going to some sort of afterlife, I was crushed. That meant I would never meet up with my loved ones again.
In a single moment, everything changed. I would never hear my parent's voices again, or see my sister and my nephew playing together. I would never be able to joke around with my cousins again or party with all of my extended family. I would never be able to go out to dinner, party, or play board games with my friends ever again.
I would never see my girlfriend again. Never see her smile or tease her. I'd never be able to hold her hand again or hear her laugh. I'd never be able to kiss her and hold her in my arms again. I'd never get to eat her cooking again. I'd never be able to propose to her, like I was planning, under the stars.
There was so much I wanted to do with all of them, and now, that would never happen.
There was so much to see there, so much natural and manmade beauty that I would never be able to see anymore.
I wanted to go to Hawaii and see volcanoes and hang out on the beach.
I wanted to go to Japan and go see the cherry blossoms, or that place with all of the anime stuff.
I wanted to go to Australia to see the Kangaroos.
I wanted to go see the Royal Palace and other attractions in England.
I wanted to see the Penguins in Antarctica.
I wanted to go to Bunny Island and feed the rabbits.
I wanted to go to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower and Louvre.
I wanted to see shows like the Blue Man Group and David Copperfield in person.
I wanted to try different foods from Michelin Star Restaurants.
I wanted to have a golden retriever and play with my dog every day.
I wanted to read so many more stories in my lifetime.
I wanted to get married and have children with my girlfriend.
I wanted to have a home with a nice backyard that we could all hang out in.
I wanted to write and publish a book that others would praise.
I wanted my parents to see how happy I would have been.
I wanted so many things...
I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried a lot during my first few months of life. As a baby, your hold over your emotions are tenuous at best, and my grief wasn't helping matters.
My thoughts were all jumbled up. I needed time to reach acceptance. I closed my eyes, and just breathed. I let the emotions just flow through me and tumble along. I have no idea how many times I went through this process. I had a lot to accept and move on.
My new parents were amazing and would comfort me all the time. My parents were probably new parent's since I never noticed any signs of siblings. They used to fuss over me all the time, and my behavior didn't help reassure them at all. Eventually, things slowly got better. My mom and dad would hold me to their chest and I would feel warm and amazing. With their help, I was able to deal with my grief and move on.
I also didn't really have a choice in the matter. It wasn't like I could go back.
After those months of grief, I was a pretty normal baby, I guess. I mean, I lived a pretty happy life with my parents and people would come and visit often to hold and play with me. I enjoyed it.
I know you guys think that's weird, but I let myself be immersed in my baby instincts and feelings. I wanted to forget my previous life and integrate into this one.
Of course, I was mentally more advanced than the average baby since I was reincarnated with my memories, which did cause me severe headaches. My parents got worried and took me to a doctor, who did all sorts of scans and stuff on me with strange looking technology.
Where the hell was I reborn? There wasn't stuff like this in my previous world. Sometimes, being a baby is so frustrating.
He told them that I would be fine and that this could actually be a good thing. Supposedly, my brain was developing more than the average baby, and the headaches should eventually go away on its own.
I guess my adult mind was making my baby brain grow really fast. A more developed brain is associated with greater intellect. At least, that's what they found out in my previous life.
Hopefully that means I'll be smarter in this life.
I started to walk around six months, and talk at ten months. I was definitely fast for my age, but I also knew what to do in the first place.
My parents were thrilled when they heard me call them "ma" and "da".
Honestly, I was thrilled too. Learning how to talk again was hard. It took some real practice to strengthen and use my vocal cords for specific controlled sounds again. It was far harder than learning how to walk.
It was when I was going to turn one year old, a lot of things changed.
My parents...disappeared. One day, they were with me and we were happy. They put me down for a nap. When I woke up, my Uncle and Aunt came instead. They were crying. Which made me cry too. Being a baby is hard.
They never said anything in front of me, but I suspected that my parents were dead. It was like I had the rug pulled out from underneath me.
I don't know if you can understand what it's like when someone is your entire world. Now multiply that by a thousand. That's what it's like for the baby when separated from their parents. It changes them.
It changed me.
I wasn't as happy as I was before. I was irritable all the time. If I wasn't an adult in a child's body, I probably would have been far worse.
My uncle and aunt took me in, and tried their best. It helped.
They couldn't replace my parents, but they loved me all the same. And I appreciated them too.
What kicked me out of my funk was the appearance of a blue screen in my vision.
CONGRATULATIONS MR. KRISHNA KHANNA ON SURVIVING TO THE AGE OF ONE IN THE ONE PIECE WORLD! THE TRAIT SYSTEM IS NOW BEING ACTIVATED!...SUCCESS!
The One Piece World? I have mixed feelings about this. On the other hand, it explains my parent's disappearance. Either they were killed by pirates...or the government. Of course, I can't rule out an accident, but it seems unlikely.
THE TRAIT SYSTEM IS USED TO ACQUIRE MORE TRAITS. TRAITS CAN IMPROVE THE ONE'S POWER OR INCREASE ONE'S POTENTIAL IN A SPECIFIC AREA. TRAITS MAY HAVE BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ASPECTS THAT CAN AFFECT THE USER. MISSIONS MAY BE ISSUED IN THE FUTURE TO GAIN OR REMOVE TRAITS.
Huh, so I'll get better at doing certain things? It's not even close to the original gamer system, but it's still better than nothing.
ACKNOWLEDGED. INITIALIZING…COMPLETED. THE USER IS NOW ABLE TO ACCESS THE MENU. TO ACCESS, PLEASE STATE OR THINK "MENU".
When I thought, "Menu", a blue screen came up.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
MENU:
STATUS
MISSIONS
INVENTORY
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
THE TUTORIAL WILL FOCUS ON THE DIFFERENT PART OF THE MENU. THE USER MAY NOW ACCESS HIS CHARACTER SHEET. TO OPEN, PLEASE STATE OR THINK "STATUS".
When I pulled up my status, this is what came up.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
KRISHNA KHANNA'S TRAITS:
Extremely Fast Learner (Your ability to learn has been learn new things has been boosted by changes in your brain and your previous life memories)
Devil Fruit Incompatibility (Due to the presence of the system, you are unable to obtain Devil Fruit powers)
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
WHAT? I can't have any devil fruits? WHY? Dammit. No wait, calm down. Even though I can't get any devil fruit powers, I still have a system.
I won't be weak if I work at it. Anyone can grow really strong in the One Piece World, Devil Fruit or not.
Huh. I already have a trait. Guess the doctor was more right than he thought. It seems like a great trait to have. I wish I had this during college.
CONTINUING TUTORIAL… PLEASE STATE OR THINK "MISSIONS".
I opened up the missions tab, and there was a mission to complete the tutorial.
MISSIONS ARE VARIOUS TASKS OR GOALS THAT CAN BE COMPLETED BY THE USER. THERE ARE NO SYSTEM PENALTIES FOR AVOIDANCE OR FAILURE OF MISSIONS. ALL MISSIONS ARE OPTIONAL AND MAY BE ISSUED AT ANY TIME.
Interesting. I can roll with that.
THIS WORLD IS REAL, NOT A GAME WORLD. WHATEVER MISSIONS YOU DO OR DON'T DO MAY HAVE REAL WORLD CONSEQUENCES. THESE ARE NOT CAUSED BY THE SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT COMPLETING A MISSION WILL LEAD TO A BENEFICIAL OUTCOME. THE USER IS ENCOURAGED TO DO AS THEY WISH.
Well, that sounds ominous. Real world consequences...the system doesn't do anything other than give me traits. So if I do a mission, I have to deal with the consequences, good or bad.
CONTINUING TUTORIAL… PLEASE STATE OR THINK "INVENTORY".
Oh thank god. Inventories are so OP. I opened my inventory to see that there appeared to be a large number of empty boxes.
USER HAS ONE HUNDRED INVENTORY SLOTS THAT CAN BE STACKED INFINITELY WITH THE SAME OBJECT.
It wasn't an infinite inventory, but that was okay. I could live with that. It was still really good.
ACCORDING TO THE TUTORIAL MISSION, THE USER IS ABLE TO SELECT ANY THREE TRAITS FROM THE SYSTEM.
A menu popped up in front of me. There were many Traits up for selection. There was a section of traits that were similar to the Straw Hat's professions.
Brawler (Specialist Version) – Extremely talented at Free Style Fighting and your skill grows much faster in this area. In exchange, your talent in all other areas is far worse and growth is much slower than the ordinary person.

…..
The specialist versions were powerful. It was only possible to pick one specialist profession trait. There were non-specialist versions of every job that could be taken too. The difference was that the general version provided less talent, but in exchange it didn't decrease your talent in other areas.
There were also many other profession based traits as well. These are just a few of them.
Pirate (Specialist Version) – Extremely talented as a Pirate and your skill grows much faster in this area. In exchange, your talent in all other areas is far worse and growth is much slower than the ordinary person.
Marine (Specialist Version) – Extremely talented as a Marine and your skill grows much faster in this area. In exchange, your talent in all other areas is far worse and growth is much slower than the ordinary person.

Jack of all Trades (Specialist Version) – You have minor talent in all areas and your ability grows twice as fast compared to a normal person. However, your abilities can only reach competency, never mastery due to the lack of talent.
…
It was interesting to know that there were a lot of different professions out there. I don't plan on choosing any profession specialist traits. I don't know which direction my overall 'build' is going to be. I really don't know what interests me in the One Piece World and what direction I wish to go. Maybe I won't even take any sort of general path, but be an all rounder.
I also don't want to take on any negative modifiers for all other talents for a single talent. Making choices that reduce my potential in any way doesn't feel like the smart choice, especially as a baby. I'm skipping these for now.
There were another couple of interesting traits.
…...
Genius - You are inspired towards new ideas easily.
Haki Prodigy – All Haki based skills grow faster when seriously battling against another Haki User. Unable to coexist with special abilities.
Resistant Body – You know how to take hits. All damage taken will be reduced by 25%.
Martial Talent - Able to learn new Martial Arts easily and improve them quickly.
Demon Touched - Connection forged to the Hell Plane and allows for the use of demonic skills and abilities. Unable to Coexist with Touched by an Angel.
Touched by an Angel - Connection forged to the Divine Plane and allows for the use of holy skills and abilities. Unable to Coexist with Demon Touched.
….
There was another section of interesting traits that I didn't notice before. They were Limited time only traits, and only available during the Tutorial. It was impossible to obtain them through any means later.
….
Early Rise (Limited Time Only) – Your abilities increase much faster in the first sixteen years of life.
Helpful (Limited Time Only) - You are far more likely to uncover hidden missions.
Pacifist (Limited Time Only) - Maintains an amicable relationship with all groups, as long as you don't take aggressive action against them.
…...
All these traits seemed to be pretty useful, and this was the only time I would ever be able to get them.
Firstly, professional traits were out. The negative modifiers were not worth it right now. Why waste an opportunity on a trait with negative aspects?
Of course, Martial talent was also pretty good, and in my opinion, necessary. Although it doesn't provide any immediate power ups like the special abilities, it made learning to fight and learn martial arts a lot easier. I wasn't a fighter back on earth. I was a weakling. In fact, I would go as far as to say that I had zero talent for fighting. There was one time I tried to learn boxing, and failed miserably. I also tried brazilian jiujitsu, and got beaten repeatedly. I just didn't have that instinct to fight. I need this to take care of that shortcoming.
Genius seemed like the spark that made people great. Like, you would be perfectly fine without that trait, but having it could make all the difference in gaining strength.
The Resistant Body trait was also important as it permanently mitigated damage. The original gamer could do this by generating skills that would improve over time through use, but I need to use a trait to get some damage reduction. Not sure if 25% is worth it though.
I'm not connecting myself to angels or demons. I don't need or want them as a power source. Plus, usually they are crazy extreme on both ends. Angels are probably irritatingly preachy, destroy everything that isn't up to their standards, and will want me to help save people's souls constantly. Demons seduce people towards doing evil acts, are known for betrayal, work on survival of the fittest, and will want to to help them corrupt or steal souls. Either way, I don't want to deal with them telling me what to do. I want to do whatever I want, without worrying if my power source is going to cut me off for not listening or somehow take control over my mind or something.
Most importantly, I don't even know how angels and demons would work in the One Piece World. What if I somehow bring them into this world and mess everything up?
Haki Prodigy was lower on the list because it was technically unnecessary at the moment. Even in the Grand Line, Haki wasn't exactly a common thing. Only stronger people in the New World tended to have and use that power. This choice was a strategic one, based on logic and not my heart. It just wasn't necessary as a baby. Also, I'm guessing that using Haki will have some sort of requirements on the body because I remember that a large amount of training was required to unlock it. It's also likely that I would be able to learn haki, even without this trait. It would just be more difficult. You had to create the appropriate balance between the short and long term benefit. A trait that won't be usable for at least fifteen or twenty years isn't something I need.
The limited-time section seemed important as well. There were a lot of limited time traits available. After I left the tutorial, I would never be able to gain these traits ever again through any means.
Early Rise was useless after a certain point. It lasted until I was sixteen, and then became useless. If I worked really hard during that time though, it could possibly do a lot of good.
Helpful was useful in discovering hidden missions, but only doubled my chance of stumbling on one. I'm assuming that my original chances were probably already really low at around 0.1% to 1.0%, so a double chance wasn't worth using up a free trait. Hidden missions were considered hidden for a reason.
Pacifist wasn't in the game. I was likely to go against people after a certain point. Also, what constitutes aggressive action? Like, could just talking to certain people be considered an aggressive action to other people? It was too vague. Although I think it would be interesting to go anywhere and everywhere while being welcomed by all factions. Imagine being welcomed by the Four Emperors, Seven Warlords of the Sea, Celestial Dragons, Revolutionary Army, Marines, Cipher Pol, or any other organization in the world. It would be amazing, but I would have to give up all use of violence, and would be forced to accept all the things all these people do, good or evil. I don't think I could do that.
After going through everything, I felt satisfied with my decision. I chose Genius, Physically Adaptable, and Supernatural Talent. The traits were all traits that were universally useful, while probably insanely difficult to obtain through the system later.
Genius was an obvious choice to improve myself mentally in combination with Fast Learner. New ideas are sometimes all one needs to get stronger. I think it's kind of like enlightenment. It seems like it can work in and out of battle.
Physically Adaptable was also a pretty good skill, especially during childhood development. Hopefully my body will have an easier time getting stronger than other people.
Supernatural Talent seemed to be an interesting WIld Card choice. Like, it didn't appear to directly improve Haki, but it seemed to have wider boundaries since the description was vague. I wasn't sure what Supernatural Talent led to, whether it was seeing ghosts, ESP, or something else, but I assume it also helped with Haki.
TRAIT SELECTION IS COMPLETE.
I felt a warmth inside me, and I knew something had changed.

CONTINUING TUTORIAL…MENU TABS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. TUTORIAL IS COMPLETE. GOOD LUCK!
Huh. So I have a trait system now. Neat.
One Piece World, huh? I guess I can't stay moping around, not if I want to be strong.
Let's do this.
The System's effects are supposed to be non-specific. Its main effect is to add specific talents to the MC, without quantifying every little detail with the stats and skill, or creating a lot of Gamer dialogue. Basically, the MC will still have the skills gained from the story before, except the system won't quantify their strength anymore.
Also, please note that the "..." after trait lists denotes that that list continues on with more unwritten traits.
