"You're slipping again."
Izuku let out a pained gasp as he forced himself to his knees, looking up at the figure standing over him. His long hair covering his face.
"You can't give in to the hunger." they said, walking around him, "If you do, then she wins."
"I can't help it." he rasped out, "I haven't had blood in so long…"
"I know it's hard, but you MUST fight it." the man said forcefully, kneeling down next to him and putting a hand on his shoulder, "she wants you as a puppet, a monster, if you allow this to happen then you will be as damned as I am."
"I...will do better…"
"I know you will Izuku…" the man stood again, pulling something out of his pocket and dropping it in front of him, "bagged blood." he said as Izuku goes to lunge for it, stopping as he watches his fingers elongate into claws, "slowly."they warned, leveling their own pointed claw at the boy, "do not lose yourself over a simple pint. It's all I could sneak in today."
Slowly Izuku took the bag, sinking his fangs into the plastic and forcing himself to take small sips, "I'm changing more…" he whispered as he pulled away from the bag, watching the blood slowly pool atop the plastic, "my teeth get sharper every day...and these c-claws…"
"It can't be helped young one." they said regretfully, "I too went through it...much later in life than you of course...but still went through it; be thankful your body is still maturing and growing. It will make the process much easier."
"What happens, if I don't control this?" Izuku asks.
"Then I kill you." they said simply, "to save your soul, and the lives of countless others...our quirk is called Vampire, Izuku, and it is one that must be trained vigorously...or other measures will have to be taken...do you understand?"
"Yes sir…"
"Good, now finish that blood, SHE will be back soon enough."
"Yes sir...thank you…"
Izuku slowly opened his eyes, the ruddy red of the setting sun peaking through his curtains as he groaned and sat up, he stared at his pale reflection in the mirror for a few moments before standing and moving to his wardrobe, fixing his mask onto his face before his nightly walk to the bathroom.
Three weeks have passed since the UA entrance exam. Three weeks and he and his friends were all excited for their results. Bakugo was adamant that he would be taking home first place. With Temari smugly stating he was nowhere near her score.
Izuku was just hoping he would be accepted.
He had heard, of course, of others like him who had a tricky quirk that could best be seen as a ticking time bomb. They were seen as liabilities; students who may turn _
villain not out of any kind of evil ulterior motive, but from the wrong factors being presented to them. And most of Japan had already seen what happened to Izuku when he gorged himself on blood.
He shivered at the memory, he hadn't meant to go that far, all that training he had been put through, the times where he hadn't broken, and he gorged himself the moment someone had helped him escape his room; he was only thankful that Jirou wasn't a spiteful woman, otherwise she may have just let him tear apart Mistress and her gang.
"Izuku honey? Are you alright?"
His mothers worried voice jolted him back into the present, 'oh, sorry." he said sheepishly, scratching his head as he looked at his mother; standing in the kitchen in her bathrobe, a cup of water in hand, "I was thinking...kinda spaced out."
"You need to sleep more often." she chided him, patting his leather covered cheek as she walked past him. "There's a letter from UA on the table."
"There is?" he perked up, immediately scanning the blank wooden table and staring at the golden sealed envelope on it hungrily.
"I was going to wake you up, but you stayed out so late today with Kyoka." Inko said with a teasing smile while her son blushed under his mask.
"T-t-there was a good movie showing.." he mumbled defensively.
"I'm sure." she chuckled, patting his shoulder, "she's a good girl Izuku. And i'm glad you have someone like that in your life."
"Thank you…" he said softly, turning and giving her a hug. He didn't know how he had survived without his mother all of those years; the woman was so full of love and approval that Izuku sometimes felt like his heart would burst with love whenever she was talking to him.
Maybe it was a secondary quirk?
"I'm going to bed." Inko said, pulling away from her son, "let me know in the morning what it says okay?"
"Okay, goodnight mom, love you." Izuku said warmly, tapping his mask as she went into her room, slowly he pulled the mask down and went to the letter, opening it with a careful reverence.
"...huh? A holodisk?" he murmured, carefully placing the delicate device onto the table and activating it.
"I AM HERE AS A PROJECTION!"
Instantly Izuku fell out of his seat, working as fast as he could to turn the disk down as All-Might posed on the screen.
"YES IT IS I! ALL-MIGHT! I'M SURE YOU'RE AS SURPRISED AS I AM TO SEE ME HERE! BUT YOU'LL BE SEEING ME MORE OFTEN AS I'M GOING TO BE YOUR TEACHER THIS NEXT YEAR!"
"He knows how to teach?" Izuku asked himself as the video continued.
"NOW THEN YOUNG MIDORIYA, YOU LEFT THE ENTRANCE EXAM WITH SIXTY-FOUR VILLAIN POINTS TO YOUR NAME! THIRD OVERALL AND MORE THAN ENOUGH POINTS TO PASS!"
Izuku smiled at that, "knew I was in that area…" he thought, preening to himself.
"HOWEVER! THERE IS ANOTHER PART OF THE TEST THAT WE DIDN'T INFORM YOU ALL ABOUT! I WAS A PERFORMER IN MY PREVIOUS LIFE, SO BEHOLD! THE SCREEN!"
A small clip played of Izuku taking down the zero-pointer, and the subsequent rescue of Uraraka.
"YOU SEE, SOMETIMES VILLAIN POINTS AREN'T ENOUGH TO GIVE UA HOPEFULS WHAT THEY NEED TO PASS, HOW DO WE ACCOUNT FOR THESE INDIVIDUALS? THROUGH RESCUE POINTS! AND FOR DESTROYING THE ZERO POINTER YOU'VE BEEN AWARDED SIXTY RESCUE POINTS! SKYROCKETING YOU TO THE FIRST PLACE POSITION!"
Izuku stared at the disk, shocked, he had gotten first? He had beat out Kacchan and Temari?
He was fucked.
"WE'LL BE SEEING YOU IN THREE WEEKS TIME FOR THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! WELCOME, YOUNG MIDORIYA, TO YOUR HERO ACADEMIA."
"I'm dead." he said simply, letting his head fall, "kacchan going to kill me, and Temari's going to help him...maybe I can run away to America. I'm sure Kyoka would understand...wait, where's my phone!?" quickly Izuku went back to his room, snatching his phone from where it was charging on his nightstand. He sweat dropped at the forty messages he had missed from Bakugo, most of them simply saying, "dead." or some other variant of it.
Temari had sent him over thirty emoji's of a laughing face. No doubt taking extreme pleasure in the thought of Izuku beating their mutual rival.
"At least she's happy." he sighed wearily, opening a single message from Kyoka, smiling at the simple message.
"Congrats on first place you tired dog, see if you can meet me tonight."
Izuku replied with a positive confirmation and put his mask back on before he quickly got dressed. Jumping out his window without a second thought.
WVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVW
Many a starry night saw Kyoka sitting on the roof of her home, looking up at the millions of twinkling lights that hung in the sky, it was one of her favorite past times, easily second on the list behind playing her music.
"You look comfortable."
The tired draw of her boyfriend made her smile as she gingerly stood and turned towards him. Unlike herself, who was dressed in a simple deep dope tank top and a pair of pajama bottoms, Izuku was dressed like he was about to head to the corner store. His signature black hoodie on, blue jeans, and the new addition of a wallet chain that she had gifted him for his birthday.
"So do you." she said, stepping towards him and wrapping him up in a hug, which he gladly returned. These were the moments she loved, when he wasn't so self-conscious about his actions and would simply react to her.
"Congrats first place." she said cheekily as she pulled away slightly, not letting him go as he groaned.
"Don't remind me." he moaned, "Kacchan already sent over twenty death threats."
"Anything entertaining?" she asked.
"No, most just say 'dead' so i'm assuming he wants it over quickly."
She laughed quietly, "what class did you get?"
"1-A."
"Same here."she said with a smile.
"Three years by your side." he sighed, "sounds dreamy."
"Sounds cheesy." she scoffed, giving him a playful shove.
Izuku laughed, slowly falling back onto the sloped roof, Kyoka settling perfectly against his chest.
"You're warmer tonight." she said softly, laying her ear against his chest, listening to his slow heartbeat.
"It happens when I'm happy." he said, tightening his arms around her. "And i'm always happy when i'm with you."
"So cheesy." she snickered, laughing louder when she saw his eyes narrow at her, "you're pouting."
"I am not."
"Yes you are." she said, slowly reaching up for his mask.
His hand stops her before she could.
"Kyoka." he said warningly.
"What's the big deal?" she asked softly. "I've seen you without it before…"
"...i...don't usually take it off around people...you know that."
"Izuku," she said, intertwining her hand with his, smiling as she feels his claws recede, "I trust you."
Izuku let his head fall a bit, then reached up with his free hand to pull his mask down.
"Do you ever shave?" she asked.
"Why would I shave if no one ever sees my face?" he asked her.
"Well, maybe it's because your girlfriend doesn't want to kiss your hairy cheek." she sassed.
Izuku looked contemplative, "you have a point." he said, giving her a smile as he wrapped his arms around her waist, "but could you really deny an old dog like me?"
She snorted and gave him a kiss, "you're ridiculous."
"And yet you love me." he teased, kissing her nose.
"Don't remind me." she sighed, looking up at him with a smile.
They stayed like this for a few more hours, talking and cuddling as they looked up at the sky.
"I should really get some sleep." Kyoka yawned, rubbing her eyes slightly.
"Probably.' Izuku mumbled, giving her frame a soft squeeze.
"Izuku." she chuckled, slowly pulling away, "I need to get to sleep."
He sighs, slowly letting her go and letting her stand up. "I'll see you in a few hours." he said, "I'm sure Temari will want to celebrate."
Kyoka helped him to his feet, then pulled him close for another kiss, which he gladly returned, "don't get too bored." she said, pulling away.
"I'll go haunt a graveyard or something." he said with a shrug as he pulled his mask up.
"Goodnight, you tired old dog.' she chuckled, climbing down the drain pipe and into her room.
"Goodnight...my kyoka." he said, slowly walking away, his foot falls soft as he jumped down to the sidewalk. Hands in his pockets.
"Brother of the Night."
Izuku stopped and slowly turned around, eyes flashing red for a moment as he saw a slightly familiar face, "brother of the Night." he intones, inclining his head towards his bird headed companion.
"Visiting your countess?" he questions.
"Perhaps, late night flight?" Izuku returns.
"The Darkness was restless tonight." he said, crossing his arms.
Izuku chuckles, "would you like to go get some late night Ramen?" he asks, turning around to continue his walk.
"A pork bowl would not be amiss." he nods. Taking position beside Izuku.
Izuku and Tokoyami had met over two months ago, when Izuku began visiting Kyoka before bed each night. He would usually walk along the sidewalk and meander through the neighborhood for a few hours before heading home. This had led him to running into the bird headed boy. After a brief introduction the two had become stalwart friends.
Tokoyami could be a little overwhelming, but Izuku had learned to roll with it and had even picked up a few speaking habits from him.
The two would spend the next two hours eating a gas station meal and talk sparingly about their day before separating. Tokoyami headed home to sleep before the day would start while Izuku went home to finish what little homework he had and maybe take a nap before Yuka came to wake him up for morning cartoons.
It wasn't a glamorous existence, but Izuku wouldn't trade it for anything.
WVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVW
The next day sees Izuku being woken by an irate Bakugo, who had wasted no time in coming over as soon as he was awake to pounce on the napping vampire.
"YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD NAB FIRST PLACE AND NOT GET YOUR ASS KICKED!"
"Kacchan please!" Izuku begged as Bakugo got him into a headlock.
"Dogpile!" Yuka cheered, jumping on top of both of them and giggling as Bakugo flailed about trying to get her off.
"Honestly, it's like taking care of children." Temari sighed from the door frame, smirking as Izuku slowly dragged himself out.
"Why do I have to put up with you two." he muttered as he trudged to his closet.
"You love us." Temari said smugly as Bakugo walked up to her, Yuka clutching to his back, "you got something on your shirt."
"So what." bakugo sneered as Izuku walked back over, now clad in his usual stuff.
"Well, congratulations are in order Izuku." Temari said, "first place overall, who would've thought."
"I still say it doesn't count." Bakugo grumbled, "it wasn't villain points.'
"Good thing what you say doesn't matter." Temari said smugly as they began walking out, Izuku waved at his mom as they passed, "besides, he won fair and square, so today is your day Midoriya, what do you want to do?"
"Sleep." he said simply.
"She means other than that nerd." Bakugo growled.
Izuku shrugged, "see Kyoka."
"That's a given." Temari chuckled, "good thing for you two, I already have the perfect plan. Lets go pick up Bride of Dracula and get this show on the road!"
WVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVW
A few hours later.
Izuku laughed as he watched Temari and Bakugo race each other to a roller coaster, the two teens had been working furiously to ride as many fast and thrill-seeking rides that they could while Izuku and Kyoka were content to follow at a more sedated pace.
"I was expecting a lot worse from Temari." Kyoka said as she ate her cotton candy, her other hand intertwined with Izuku's, "but a day at the carnival was a good call."
"I'd still rather just sleep." Izuku said good naturedly.
"You really are an old dog." she scoffed, nudging him slightly, "don't worry, I'm sure Temari will let you slink off at about four so you can keep with your schedule."
"Or we can sneak away at one and go watch movies at my place until I fall asleep." Izuku suggested, "Mom's going to be over at the Bakugo's for most of the day getting Bakugo's congratulation party ready."
"You aren't going to it?" Kyoka asked in surprise.
"It's not starting until later in the evening, around the time i'm going to wake up, so no skin off my back."
"Well then I can probably just relax at your place until then." she said, giving his cheek a little peck and making him blush.
"It sounds like a plan." he murmured, his thumb gliding over the back of her hand in a show of affection.
"Cool, now let's go get some food, i'm actually kind of hungry."
They continued walking, going past a ring toss booth; as they walked past it, Izuku picked up a semi-familiar scent, "Hmm?" he cocked his head, slowly reaching up and pulling his mask down below his nose and sniffed the air.
"What is it?" Kyoka asked.
"I...smell something familiar…" he muttered, looking about for a bit, "something...like me…"
"Like you? You mean like another vampire quirk?"
"Sorta...it's hard to explain…" he turned around, his eyes scanning the crowd until they zeroed in on a middle school girl, probably a few years younger then they were, her blonde hair tied back in two messy buns. She was standing alone, looking slightly out of it as she looked about, eyes darting from one person to another.
"The blonde girl...she's suffering from withdrawal." Izuku said to Kyoka.
"Do you have extra blood pods?" she asked.
Izuku nodded and began walking towards the girl.
WVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVW
Himiko Toga knew she shouldn't have come to the carnival with her friends.
She knew that this many people in such a tight space would only spell trouble, but she hadn't wanted to ruin their afternoon. And she thought she'd be able to handle it.
But then Sari had cut her finger, and all that blood had been so tempting...she had to force herself from following her friends to the bathroom. And the smell of blood had sent her into a tizzy. Dizzily trying to regain her bearings and hopefully get away from the area before she did something she would regret.
"Here."
The soft, raspy voice pulled her from her internal thoughts as she slowly looked to her right, eyes widening at the sight of the tall masked man, who was holding some kind of pod out to her between his clawed fingers.
"W-w-what?" she stuttered out.
"Your quirk works off of blood right?" he asked, "mine too."
"But what...what would…" she motioned to the pod.
"It's a blood pod." he said, "equivalent of two quarts."
Her eyes widened "Really?" She whispered in awe, her hand beginning to move towards the pod, only for her to jerk back in fear, "N-n-no! I can't…" she said quickly, shaking her head.
Izuku tilted his head, "why not? I promise it's okay, I have more than enough for the day-"
"-drinking blood is wrong." she said strongly, "it's not something normal people do."
"It's a good thing we're not normal then, isn't it?" he asked.
"I...I'm not...I don't need to."
"I know withdrawal when I see it." Izuku said bluntly, "I don't know how long you've gone without blood, or how dependent you are. But if your quirk needs blood, then you need blood. No if, ands, or buts."
"i...I haven't had blood in over a year…" she said in a small voice, seemingly deflating in front of Izuku, "mom says just to get used to it but...but…"
"But trying to ignore it just makes you want it more." Izuku finishes for her, "it's all you begin to think about, bordering on obsession, right?"
She nodded slowly, tears in her eyes.
'Let me guess, you don't have an appetite for anything else, right? Barely eating anything except maybe rare cooked steak because its' just so close to the same taste but not the same."
"How-"
"-like i said, I know withdrawal when I see it." he sighs, looking back at something, then back to her, "walk with me kid, I left my girlfriend to try and give this to you, but this may take more than just handing you a blood pod."
"I...who are you anyways?" she almost demanded to know.
"Izuku Midoriya," he said, turning away, "you coming or not?"
Toga hesitated, then began to walk alongside the strange man as he led the way over to a girl who was only a few years older than Toga.
"I take it something else happened?" she asked Izuku, who nodded.
"She believes drinking blood is the worst thing you can do." Izuku said, "and she's in the final stages of withdrawal."
"You should really take that pod then." she said, looking at Toga, "Last time Izuku had tried to power through, he almost took a chunk out of Bakugo's arm."
"His blood was spicy, kind of like curry." Izuku said reminiscently.
"But...but I was told never to drink blood." Toga sighed, looking at the pod forlornly.
"You're killing yourself." Izuku said bluntly, "true you're taking a lot longer than I would, but killing yourself just the same."
"I...no, I just...I need a new way to forget about it." she whispered. Looking away.
Izuku looks at Kyoka, "wanna help here?" he asked.
"Hey, you're the vampire, I'm just along for the ride." she said, holding her hands up.
"Vampire?" she asked in confusion.
"It's my quirk." Izuku said, "by ingesting blood I'm able to gain power, the drawback is that I crave blood, and need it to survive. If I don't drink it regularly throughout the day then it'll be like I hadn't eaten. Even if I ate a regular meal when I was supposed to. It takes about two full weeks before I pass out from lack of blood." he looked at her, "like i said, you're different, you said you haven't had any for a year, but you're acting like i would in the final few days. "
"You...you really meant I could die?" she asked, horrified.
He nodded, then held the blood pod out, "now that I know you're that far gone, don't just pop it in your mouth and drink it all down, take a bite out of the corner and drink it slowly."
"But wouldn't I need it quickly…" she trailed off.
"You need to replenish without gorging." Izuku explained, "If you're anything like me, then if you drink it too fast then you'll start to binge it until you're attacking people for more, and i'm sure you don't want that."
She nodded her head quickly, "I don't want to hurt anyone."
"Then take this, and drink it slowly," he said again.
Himiko sighed and took the blood pod, staring at it reverently before slowly leaning forward and biting into the corner, moaning slightly as the blood touched her tongue.
"Slowly." Izuku ordered again, and Himiko listened, slowly drinking until the plastic was empty.
"Thank you." she sighed, feeling much better then she had.
"Don't make a habit of refusing blood." he said plainly, "Next time you may very well lose yourself."
"I...i just didn't want to make mom mad again." she mumbled, not looking at Izuku, "she's been trying to get me to stop drinking blood since I was little and…"
"Trying to get you to stop is killing you." izuku said, "any quirk specialist would have been able to tell you that."
"She doesn't want to listen…"
"Hmm…" slowly izuku reached into his pocket and pulled out his five extra blood pods, 'here." he said, handing them over to her, 'you can probably go a few days without blood, so treat these sparingly. If you need more, find me."
"A-are you sure?"
"He's got more than enough blood to spare." Kyoka said, "and he's right, you need to keep yourself healthy, and blood is the way to do it."
Hesitantly, Himiko took the blood pods, storing them in her purse, "t-thank you sir." she said, bowing to him.
"Don't mention it...and please don't call me sir, it makes me feel old," he said, turning back to Kyoka and intertwining his hand with hers, "lets go, we can pick some food up on the way back to the house."
"Sounds good." the two began walking away, leaving HImiko alone.
"I-I'm Himiko Toga!" she called after them.
"Good to meet you.' Izuku called back, waving a clawed hand.
Toga watched them leave, feeling a mix of emotions as she looked down at her purse, "wait...how am I supposed to find him when I run out!?"
WVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVW
A few hours later.
Izuku woke up to his phone alarm ringing softly on his bedside table, with a groan he reached over and silenced it before cuddling back into Kyoka, whose arms were around him in her semi-conscious state.
"Time to go?" she mumbled.
"We still have an hour." Izuku whispered.
Kyoka hummed and pressed a kiss into his forehead, 'you did a good thing today."
"She needed the blood more than me." he muttered. "I at least have enough to keep me sane for the next few days."
"I do have one question though."
"Yeah?"
"How is she supposed to find you?"
Izuku chuckled, "that was a bit of an inside joke…"
"What do you mean?"
"There was once an older man who was trapped with me." Izuku said softly, "back in that place...he had a quirk like mine, and he was given more freedom within the building, and he'd always tell me to find him when I needed help...despite the fact that I couldn't leave my room, and only knew when he was near by his scent...i'm sure she'll be able to find me; those like us have better senses than others, and if I hadn't had the mask I probably would've been able to sense her as soon as I was a mile from the carnival."
"That's impressive...what happened to the old man?"
"One day he tried to sneak me out, and he was caught before he could get to my room...I'm not sure what Mistress did to him...and I only hope it was quick…"
Kyoka sighed and hugged him tighter. Izuku closed his eyes for a few moments, before sighing, "let's get up, before Temari and Kacchan come looking for me."
WVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVWVW
Three weeks later.
Izuku walked up to Class 1A's door, eyes staring at the overly large door as he slowly reached out, pausing slightly as he looked at his claws; he closed his eyes and concentrated, relaxing as he felt his claws retract, "okay, lets do this." he said quietly, opening the door.
"WILL YOU GET YOUR FEET OFF THE DESK!"
"FUCK OFF!"
Izuku sighed, "couldn't you be quieter Bakugo?" he mumbled, making both stop and look at him.
"About time you got here Deku!" Bakugo sneered, his voice noticeably quieter, "what took you so long to get here."
"Long night," Izuku said simply, and it was true, he had run into Himiko Toga again and had spent most of the night educating her about just why their quirks required blood, as well as helping her figure out what a proper diet would be for her. "Didn't go to sleep until five this morning." he looked towards Tokoyami and inclined his head, "Brother of the Dark." he greeted.
"Brother of the Dark.' Tokoyami returned with a nod.
"Excuse me!" Iida said abruptly, marching towards Izuku with his hand outstretched, "I am Iida Tenya from Somei-"
"-I heard you before," Izuku said, wincing slightly at the loud noise, "it's nice to meet you...can you please be a little quieter."
"My apologies Midoriya," he said, lowering his voice before giving him a small bow, "I must apologize for my previous actions on the day of the exam, I misjudged you as well as your friends."
"Don't worry about it, new school new start right?" Izuku asked.
"Of course, thank you for being mature about all of this."
"I'll still blast ya into next week." Bakugo grumbled under his voice.
Izuku ignored Bakugo's mumbled insults and simply gave Iida a nod as the door opened.
"Hey! You made it!" Uraraka cheered quietly as she walked in, Jirou at her side.
"Oh yeah, Uraraka right?" Izuku asked, "i'm glad you passed.'
"It was no sweat! But seriously you were so amazing taking out that bot all on your own!" she gushed as Jirou greeted her boyfriend with a kiss on his cheek, intertwining her hand with his.
"If you're here to make friends then leave."
Izuku looked at the doorway along with the rest of his class, all of them staring at the yellow sleeping bag wearing man, "in this class we are here to become heroes, nothing more, nothing less."
Quickly the teens went to their seats, Izuku not taking his eyes off the man as he walked in.
"It took you eight seconds to quiet down, next time be more reasonable with how you spend your time...my name is Mr. Aizawa, I will be your homeroom teacher, now, all of you put these on." he tossed them a bag full of new gym uniforms, "and meet me outside."
"What about Orientation?" Uraraka asked in confusion.
"It's a waste of time." he sniffed disdainfully, "hurry up." and with that, he was gone.
"We should probably get moving." Izuku said, picking up a uniform that was his size and walking out the door.
"Where are you going?" Kirishima questioned him as he walked past.
"The changing rooms, you all weren't going to change in here together right?"
The amount of blushing faces and inaudible answers made Izuku sigh before continuing on, Bakugo and Tokoyami following along with the other male students. It took two minutes to find the locker rooms, a few more to change out of their clothes.
"Whoa," Kaminari whispered as he stared at the scars that covered Izuku's body, some were from the countless medical experiments that had been run on him.
The rest were all results of fighting the animals his captors had thrown in with him.
"Looks like he's been mauled." Sero whispered to Kaminari, "you think it was a villain."
"Brown bears actually." Izuku said, making both teens freeze up, "couple of black bears, wolves, dogs, some birds of varying size and nature...if you two want to gossip, you're better off waiting until school is out, my hearing is very good."
Both ducked their heads in shame as Izuku walked out, Bakugo right behind him with a glare fixed on the two.
"Idiots." Bakugo growled as he and Izuku walked down to where Mr. Aizawa was waiting.
"They don't know any better." Izuku sighed, pulling a blood pod out and popping it into his mouth, replacing his mask as he did, his eyes flashing red behind his goggles, "don't do anything stupid."
"He trying to pick fights already?" Temari asked in amusement.
"Yep." Izuku droned, making Bakugo growl, "what do you think we'll be doing?"
"Probably some kind of test." Temari sighed, smirking as Jirou came down and stopped beside Midoriya, "well, how's our Countess today?" Temari asked, making Jirou blush.
"Shut it with that countess stuff." Jirou whispered quietly, "if one more person asks if he has a harem-"
"-that just sounds exhausting…" Izuku mumbled, letting out a tired chuckle when Jirou jabbed him with her jacks as the rest of the class finally arrived.
"Alright, now that you're all here, I'm going to be putting you through a quirk assessment test, to see where you all are." his tired eyes zeroed in on Izuku, "Midoriya," he said, making Izuku flinch.
"Yes sir?" he asked warily, stepping forward.
"What was the farthest you got on the softball throw in middle school?"
"The one test I did...eighty meters or so?" he asked with a shrug.
"Try again, and this time use your quirk." he tossed him a softball with a weird band around it, "anything goes, so long as you don't step out of the circle.
Izuku stepped into the circle, "okay...okay." he took a deep breath and wound up the pitch, throwing the ball as hard as he could as he felt himself burn up a quarter of the blood he just consumed, sending the ball flying into the sky with a sonic boom that had his classmates staggering from the force.
The ball flew high into the sky as Izuku watched it, "Fawkes." Izuku intoned.
Mineta let out a scream of terror as a hawk flew out of his shadow, clipping him with it's wing before landing on Izuku's shoulder, it's red eyes looking about as it flapped it's two pairs of wings.
"You know what to do." Izuku said, settling into a squat as the hawk took off, snatching the ball out of the air before it landed and carrying it further; it let go after a few moments and allowed the ball to fall back to earth.
"You have to learn how to think outside the box, and use your quirks to their full potential." he showed them his phone.
"Three Kilometers!" the class shouted in shock as Izuku slowly walked back towards them, the shadowy hawk landing on his shoulder as it began to clean it's wings.
"Good job Fawkes." Izuku said, running a fond finger down the birds back, making it screech happily, "you earned a rest."
And just as it arrived, the hawk disappeared, melding into Izuku's shadow as the class began to talk excitedly amongst each other.
"Alright! We get to go all out and use our quirks! Now this is what I'm here for!" Kirishima whooped.
"It'll be so much fun!" Mina gushed.
"Fun you say?" Aizawa asked coldly, making the class quiet down, "we aren't here for fun, we're here to become heroes. So for an added bit of encouragement, the person in last place will be expelled."
Izuku winced as everyone began shouting, "so loud." he grumbled.
"But Mr. Aizawa! That's not fair!" Uraraka cried.
"You think natural disasters are fair?" Aizawa asked, "how about muggings? Bank robberies? Life is not fair, and it is your job to adapt to the situation at hand and go beyond, Plus Ultra." he looked at all of them, "now, let's get started."
The class was quick to begin the tests. Putting their all into every single one with varying results of success. Izuku easily kept pace with Iida in the distance run, slowing down only when he had stumbled on an out of place rock and finishing second, tying with Asui. in the fifty meter run he was a hair faster than Bakugo; though Temari blew both of them out of the water. His push ups and sit ups both capped out at 150 and he had crushed the grip strength machine.
Only Mineta was able to beat him at the repeated side jumps, the purple teen bouncing so fast that Izuku felt queasy just trying to watch him.
"Definitely faster than me." Izuku muttered beside Jirou as they watched Bakugo finish the softball throw, buffeting them with dust and smoke, "made me dizzy."
"How are you on blood?" Jirou asked worriedly.
"I should be good to make it to the classroom." he mumbled, a tone of pride in his words; it had been hard training himself to go for long periods without blood, and he still couldn't do prolonged fights with only one pod, but it was better than needing to take a pod after every move, "do you think Mr. Aizawa would let me borrow his sleeping bag."
Jirou snorted, covering her mouth as she laughed; Aizawa glared at both of them.
"Something you want to share with the class?" Aizawa asked.
"No sir," Jirou coughed, forcing herself to keep a straight face as the last student threw their ball.
"I actually want to know where you got that sleeping bag." Izuku said, "it looks comfy."
Aizawa stared at Izuku for a few moments, then said, "Powerloader made it, talk to him if you want one."
"Seriously?" Izuku asked in shock, his entire attitude changing as his eyes lit up behind his goggles.
"You're nocturnal, you'll need something to help you rest easy when working in the day."
"My own sleeping bag...sleep anywhere in comfort…" Izuku sighed dreamily.
"Is...he for real?" Kaminari asked, looking at the rest of the class, all of whom just shrugged while Jirou and Bakugo laughed.
"Enough," Aizawa said sternly, motioning to a small scoreboard, "Telling you your scores individually will take too long, so i'm putting them all on here, those of you who scored low make sure you note where your weak points are and work on them."
Izuku looked at the scoreboard, nodding to himself at his fifth place placement, below Bakugo, Temari, Todoroki and Yaoyorozu.
"NOOO!" Mineta cried as he stared at the scoreboard, he was deadlast.
"Oh and don't worry, no ones getting expelled."
"WHAT!?"
Izuku narrowed his eyes as Aizawa explained away his ultimatum as a 'logical ruse', "he's lying." he whispered softly to Jirou, "his heart rate is slightly faster than normal."
"You're right." Jirou muttered back, "but why would he lie?"
"Who knows, maybe he likes our class."
"-You're all dismissed, Except for you Midoriya, I need to speak with you before you leave."
"Yes sir," Izuku responded, giving Jirou's hand a squeeze, "see you back at class love."
"Hurry up you old dog." she retorted with a smile.
Izuku walked up to Mr. Aizawa, "Yes sir?" he yawned.
"Have you gotten a better hold on your quirk?" Aizawa asked.
Izuku hesitated, "Sort of...I can go longer on a single blood pod now…"
"What about the Hunger? Do you still crave-"
"-yes." Izuku said abruptly, cutting the teacher off, "It never leaves, the blood pods help, but they're not fresh blood; fresh blood would be better."
"There's no way to help that, just know that the other teachers will be keeping a close eye on you, any instance of you drinking fresh human blood will result in a medical lockdown as well as temporary suspension from the school."
"I expected as much...any other rules?"
"Yeah, don't even try to sleep around Mic, he takes that as a personal challenge.' Aizawa said, turning to walk away, "You're dismissed, head back with the others.
"Wait."
Aizawa stopped, slowly turning back around to look at the Vampire, "is there something else?"
"Maybe...could you look into a Himiko Toga for me?" he asked.
"Any particular reason?"
"She's like me...and when I found her she was in the final stages of blood withdrawal, kept saying her mother didn't want her drinking blood...I want to make sure she's okay."
Aizawa nodded,"I can look into it, is she exactly like you?"
He shook his head, "No, but her quirk is blood related, and it's needed to keep her healthy, thank you Mr. Aizawa."
"Of course."
Izuku walked off, changing quickly as he followed his classmates back to the classroom.
"So Midoriya, how did you do that hawk thing?" Kirishima asked curiously as they stepped into class.
"If I drain the blood of an animal completely then I can call upon its spirit to help me." as he says this, Baskerville melted out of the shadows, walking alongside Izuku happily. "This one just likes hanging around."
'Why does it have multiple eyes?" Sero asked uncomfortably.
"The better to see you with, my dear." Izuku chuckled quietly as they walked into the classroom.
"That doesn't make me feel at ease."
"I think that's the point." Kaminari sighed.
"You good?" Kyoka asked as they gathered their things.
"I'll be fine until home." he rasped quietly, while most wouldn't be able to notice, Kyoka had been around him the most, and could tell he was struggling with the lack of blood; his heart was beating rapidly, and his hands had the smallest of shakes.
"Come on then you old dog." Kyoka said, putting an arm around him that was mostly for support, "let's get you home."
