This is an entirely original story with a twist, of course. I do not own any rights to Highschool DXD but will use the characters and most of the same storyline, including some new characters; of course, it will be a harem story but wait and find out with who.

Chapter 9
Issei was just waking up from a long night after the emergency meeting with Azazel and Grayfia to figure out what to do with his new friend since she messed up badly. The fallen angel's side had now abandoned Raynare due to her actions. Her friends narrowly missed the same punishment but still received one to an extent.
I texted Sona to let her know I couldn't come in today due to business trouble. I wonder if she would buy it without an explanation. Issei thought while stretching his arms.
"Ah, Morning, Raynare-san. I didn't expect you to be up this early. Did you sleep ok?" Issei asked out of worry for her
"Ah, morning, mmm Issei-san, slept well thank you. I'm sorry about yesterday I know I properly messed things up for myself," Raynare said with sadness in her eyes.
"Everyone makes mistakes, Raynare-san it was unfortunate that it was a big one. So, myself and Grayfia talked and also talked to Sirzechs beforehand to ask for his approval on this matter. He is willing to allow you to become a devil to make amends for your mistake. He did ask if I would take you on as one of my pieces, but I figured you would help his sister out more than me," Issei said, explaining his action regarding Raynare up till this point.
"May I ask why her more than you?" Raynare questioned
"Mainly because I am not rushing for peerage members as of yet, but his sister requires reliable members quickly. Don't worry though. Her family treats their peerage as a family, so you'll be fine," Issei said
"Oh, is she in some kind of trouble?" Raynare asked
Issei shrugged as he replied, "Well yes and no… The problem is that she is in an arranged marriage with some arrogant person of the Phenex household whom she doesn't love, mainly due to his obnoxious nature, so we were hoping you would be able to help her in the short term. The other trouble is her Queen she is not exactly on friendly terms with fallen angels due to her past, so please don't take any offense if she lashes out," Issei said
"Let me guess, being arrogant means basically a sleazeball that's a proper pervert?" Raynare stated more than asked, already assuming the situation correctly.
"Pretty much it, yeah. At least from what I've been told about the issue. Anyways, I have just sent a text to the student council president about me not attending school today. Now, today's plan is to see how good you are in combat and magic so I can judge what piece would suit you best. Afterward, I'll then also introduce you to Rias," Issei said, making some breakfast for himself and the other two houseguests.
"Ok, I'm fine with that, and thank you for this meal looks tasty," Raynare said with that hearing her stomach growl which caused Raynare to blush to an extent.
"Ufufufu, you're welcome Raynare. One sec just going to shout to wake Grayfia up," Issei said giggling in anticipation.
Curving his hands in front of his mouth to amplify the volume, Issei shouted down the hall, "GRAYFIA! BREAKFAST IS READY!".
A loud thud, followed by a series of loud bangs came from Grayfia's room. The door opened as the devil walked out, looking as if she hadn't fully woken or something.
"Ise? Did you have to shout that loud? It made me jump out of my skin and fall over the stool in the bedroom…," Grayfia said while glaring at Issei.
"Well didn't want you to forget breakfast," Issei said while shrugging and smirking at the same time
"Oh I am so going to get you back for that, just you wait Mr," Grayfia said with a sly grin as she took her seat and started eating.
"Meh joys of family fun. Anyways I messaged Sona about taking today off for business and was going to ask if you know somewhere we can go and see what piece would suit Raynare when she joins a peerage," Issei said to Grayfia, smiling at her all the while.
"Well as much as I hate you not going to school, I can understand. I have a place in mind, Sirzechs should meet us there with the Proxy pieces he got for you to try out with Raynare. They will give her a temporary boost to her powers and allow for easy switching to figure out which one will work best.," Grayfia said to Issei while continuing her breakfast.
"Sweet that will work wonders," Issei said with a big grin plastered on his face
"I will prove myself as I don't want to mess up any more chances," Raynare says while looking determined.
"Hey, it ok Raynare. Let's get ready to go to the place to train and find out what piece suits you best," Issei said getting up from his chair.
"Issei, when we are all ready, let me know and we can teleport to the training dimension that you asked about," Grayfia said gathering the plates and moving them to the sink to wash them.
A few minutes later they all gathered in the living room again and Issei spoke up "Ok Grayfia, I think we are ready to go, I'm so excited to see the place I asked for ufufufu," Issei said with a little bit of excited giggling
"I am also ready, let's do this. " Raynare said, determined to grasp this second chance
"Ok let's stand together and head off then," Grayfia said, preparing the magic circle.

As the group came out of the magic circle they saw they were surrounded by mountains with a lush meadow, and in the distance, they saw equipment, targets, and various other things. There was also an outhouse that shouted hot spring baths for help healing and cleansing sweat.
Issei has stars in his eyes showing how excited he is. "Wow this is more than I asked for Grayfia, can you explain about each area for us also I know it will be a while till Sirzechs comes being a Maou with his responsibilities," Issei said while looking around.
Acknowledging Issei's response, Grayfia took them on a short tour through the area to explain what there were facilities it housed. "Here we have your standard running track based on what you have in Kuoh Academy which be useful for stamina or testing speed for knight training, to the left of that you will see various targets like you'll have in archery for magic shooting or other throwable items, they will respawn if destroyed, so no need to hold back. To the left of that, you will see your standard gym equipment like weights pull up bars etcetera, which you can use for knowing the strength limit if going rook or general activities, and near that we have dummies or targets that will also move and shoot magic or items at you for reflex training or to test out your magic capacity they also respawn if destroyed. With that, this outbuilding you noticed is also an outdoor bath with healing properties thanks to the help from Lord and Lady Sitri." Grayfia explained, waiting for questions from either Issei or Raynare.
As Raynare looked around thinking about where she started to test herself and also amazed at all she had seen. "So, which area would you like me to try out first, Issei?" Raynare asked, waiting for an answer.
"Hmm, well it will be a while before Sirzechs will arrive, so let's start at base form without any pieces and see what you are currently at. Then once we gain the Proxy pieces we can see what difference they have. I and Grayfia will mark downtimes or power output so we can keep track and compare them to your performances with pieces." Issei explained while moving to the first area which was the track field.
As Raynare reached the track she just stared at it before looking at Issei and Grayfia with a dumbfounded look. "I know this is going to be a stupid question, How are you going to work out my powers with this?" Questioned Raynare
As Issei looked at Raynare just blinking thinking What. The. Fuck. "Well the idea is to be able to measure your stamina and speed so we will have a stopwatch to see how long it takes you to go round this track so no flying is allowed" Issei replied nonchalantly
As Raynare got to the starting line she braced herself as she bent down with her feet in the foot holders and her fingers on the line ready to take off when Issei or Grayfia shouted start. "Ok, I'm set and ready! " Raynare shouted with fire in her eyes.
As Issei got the stopwatch ready Grayfia got ready to shout start so Raynare can start the test.
"Ok, On your marks, get ready, GO!" Grayfia shouted towards the end and saw Raynare launch off.
As Raynare was making her way around the track she realized how much she relied on her wings too, as she was now huffing and puffing. When she made it to the halfway mark she tripped over herself but managed to stop herself from falling and carried on to the end.
As Issei clicked the stopwatch and looked at the time then checked to make sure Raynare was okay. "Nice work out there Raynare, I hope you're alright as you nearly fell over yourself." Issei said
Raynare went crimson and turned away so Issei couldn't see "I'm okay, thank you, I just happened to lose focus when I realized I relied on my wings too much than keeping up my physical side of things" Raynare says with an embarrassed look.
Issei, trying not to laugh, decided to head towards the next area, meant to test her magic capabilities with the targets. "Ok, well with the trackside done, let's head to the targets to test out your magic capabilities," Issei says while walking away from Raynare.
Grayfia looked at Raynare and the targets and got ready to make a readout of her magic. This exercise mainly worked by measuring how strong each element that Raynare possessed was, and it required an experienced caster like herself to do the measuring. She spoke to the fallen angel as Raynare was getting ready: "Raynare, with this one I will take charge as I am able to get a strong read on your magic. Aim at the targets with all the elements you're able to use and see which ones we can make stronger in time." Grayfia moved her hands towards the targets, preparing herself.
Raynare took notice of what Grayfia had said and stood in front of the shooting range, getting into position to fire."Ok, I am ready" Raynare stated as she started summoning her light spear.
"Begin!" shouted Issei, watching everything from the sideline.
As soon as Issei shouted Raynare shot as many light spears as she could form which was slow at forming, she also possessed some earth elements as well as lightning which is related to the light powers but not as strong, she had some shadow elements under dark powers but was effective due to being targets but if used on mobile maybe they could. Issei was watching with amusement but also checked what output she was giving off when walking over to Grayfia.
Grayfia notices Issei walking to her and checking on the time and was going to tell Raynare to stop and rest. "Ok Raynare-san, you can stop and have a rest now. We should have a basic idea of your output and what elements you can do." Grayfia says while tapping on the device which she used to record.
"Okay thank you, after this test, I think I might have to go into some major training to boost myself up," Raynare says while sitting down on the floor to catch a breath.
"So Grayfia, how did she do?" Issei asked.
As Grayfia looked at the results from the data she gathered she was judging which piece would suit Raynare. "Well overall was good despite her not doing any psychical in a long time, I think the best piece would be a Pawn as it gives her a chance to utilize each area and it should boost both her Light and Shadow accordingly," Grayfia says with a smirk
"Oh with that smirk I think she will be a force to deal with, let's take a break as well, and hopefully Sirzechs be here soon," Issei said with a grin
"I agree, I brought us a picnic ready for this, Raynare-san help yourself to some drink and food," Grayfia says while placing the picnic basket down.
"Nice!, Thank you very much Grayfia-san. I really didn't expect to get treated this nicely after what I did," Raynare said while looking sad but helping herself to a can of cola and a salmon sandwich.
"We told you already Raynare-san, that's in the past and now you're here to start afresh in" Grayfia said in a stern voice.
"I'm sorry, I just not used to getting treated this nicely, I am really grateful though even with this twist of fate I find it as a blessing in such" Raynare said while staring at her sandwich
While eating their food that Grayfia prepared, they all felt and saw a magic circle forming, signaling the arrival of Sirzechs.
*Shin*
As Issei and the others noticed Sirzechs come out he was looking around to see where he was when Issei suddenly spoke for him to turn around.
"Hey, Sirzechs, glad you could come, hope everything is alright on the office side of things," Issei stated with a grin
"Hi Issei, Grayfia, glad to come and catch up with my little brother-in-law, and I am guessing you must be Raynare. A pleasure to meet your acquaintance," Sirzechs said as he bowed to Raynare.
"No need to bow to me Lord Lucifer, the pleasure of meeting you is enough and also to atone for my mistake I made," Raynare replied while bowing to Sirzechs
"Well from what I have been told you don't need to worry about that no more, but I am glad to have a new comrade that will help my dear sister out. Which reminds me, here you go Issei," Sirzechs said while passing Issei a box.
As Issei inspects the box and opens it to see the chess pieces he wanted to test on Raynare. "Ah thank you Sirzechs, I guess these are the proxy pieces that help us out," Issei said with a smirk.
"They are indeed, but by the looks of that smirk you already have an idea on what piece to try out on Raynare?" Sirzechs says while looking intrigued
"We do indeed, me and Grayfia were testing Raynare on her base level so we can get an idea and found something interesting, to say the least," Issei said with a big grin while floating his hand towards the piece to try on Raynare.
"Ah interesting, so what piece do you think would fit her then?" Sirzechs asked, interested in what the kid had come up with.
"Well, we think a pawn piece would work best, as it gives her a chance to promote to any piece depending on the situation as she has not only good magic capacity but also a vast arsenal of different elements to choose from. She is somewhat of a brawler as well," Issei says while looking at Raynare, who was by now looking for words.
"Hm, well Raynare would you be happy as a pawn piece?" Sirzechs asked, wondering what her reaction would be.
"I don't want to be rude, but isn't a pawn supposed to be the weakest piece in chess?" Raynare asked while tilting her head in confusion
"Not necessarily, some do underestimate them and use them as sacrificial pieces but in actual reality, they can be one of the most powerful ones due to the capability of promoting by either entering the enemies base or by the king's permission," Sirzechs stated.
"Oh I see, so depending on the situation I could promote to any piece which can help the team in such a way," Raynare said while having a finger on her chin and thinking.
"Exactly, so depending on the situation which will need support you could easily promote to a bishop and gain ability to enhance you magic capabilities, or for a situation which requires all can easily promote to the queen which is an even balance" Issei explains to Raynare who just nods at his theory and understanding it.
"This proxy piece would give you an idea on how it works and once we have done the test we have a gadget here which would let us see how many pawn pieces you would take, which I bet be close to either 3 or 4 pieces but that's my view," Issei says now Raynare wondering what it means to have more pieces.
"Erm Issei-san, what do you mean by 3 or 4 pieces?" Asked Raynare with a face wanting to know more.
"Well easy way to explain is the more pieces you have to reincarnate you the stronger you can be compared to just one piece, or if you're lucky sometimes a mutated piece is equal to 2 or 3 pieces depending on which piece is mutated" Issei explains which Raynare looks intrigued
"So are you ready to try the pawn piece out I know this is a proxy piece but it will give you a basic idea of how it feels and also we made it so can change automatically so you can try all promotions," Sirzechs says while getting the piece out of the box and gets it ready to place it inside Raynare
As Raynare stands in front of Sirzechs ready to accept the proxy piece she nods to say she's ready.
"I-I'm ready Lord Lucifer," Raynare says while bowing
"Ok here we go and by the way don't worry about formalities at the present we are not in a business environment," Sirzech said while winking and then places the proxy piece inside Raynare
"So how do you feel Ray, I know it's temporary but should have access to its abilities now and feel a slight boost in power," Issei says while giving Raynare a nickname.
As Raynare blushes from getting a nickname from Issei, she feels the boost in power from the proxy piece which just went inside her. "It feels weird but in a good way, so I'm able to try the promotion out now?" asked a ready but blushing Raynare.
"Yes, let's go test it out now. Which would you like to try first?" Grayfia said while joining the conversation after listening in.
"I say track first to test the knight and see the speed boost and see what time we are looking at," Issei says while looking at the original time then at Raynare and Grayfia.
"Hai! Promotion to Knight!" Shouted Raynare as she gets into position after promoting to knight piece.
"Ok, on your marks…get ready….. Go!" Shouted Issei as started the stopwatch to record the new time.
As Raynare started running she felt the boost of speed she gained and was enjoying it and realized what Issei was saying about having the advantage of a pawn piece when used in the right situation. She also hoped one day she would have an even better relationship with Issei as she blushes about thinking something lustful. As she passed the finishing line she felt like she still could run for miles but stopped and waited to hear the results with excitement.
"Good job Ray, your timing was awesome for the first time, and that's only with a single piece imagine the power you could get if it was multiple, as for the timing you beat your previous record by 5 minutes," Issei says while grinning massively then looking at Sirzechs and Grayfia for their views.
As Sirzechs was looking all he could think was Rias will have a good peerage member if she doesn't mess it up then sees Issei looking at him and smiling.
"I agree with Issei, that was a marvelous show and I can't wait to see what the other promotions will look like," Sirzechs says smiling
"Thank you Lord Lucifer and Issei, that really means a lot, I think I would like to try bishop promotion next if possible." Raynare replied with a smile and fire in her eyes showing her determination to prove herself.
"Ok then let's move to the target area. Like last time, fire your magic and I will measure its output to see the difference," Grayfia says now smiling as well, seeing why Issei gave her a chance to change.
Everyone walked to the target range and waited for Raynare to get into position to start then shouts her next promotion to try out she suddenly felt the burst of magic extend even more to her usual reserves and it felt great that she was getting slightly aroused by it.
"Promotion Bishop!" Shouted Raynare, showing flushed cheeks and a slight moan coming out of her.
"Ok Ray, start shooting your magic whenever you are ready to do so," Issei says, noticing her flustered cheeks and smirking seeing it.
Raynare got ready and started producing her light spears and noticed she can bring them out a little quicker but not by much but also noticed it was a lot thicker and stronger. She then started throwing them and also summoning her other magic spells and seeing the casting speed and power output were higher, Grayfia was looking at the tablet checking the results of her magic output like did last time and comparing them, to which she was astonished it was doubled nearly tripled which would give her a high-class devil a run for there money if was in the right environment.
"Issei, I have to say the results are astonishing," Grayfia said and showed Issei the results.
As Issei looked at the results he had the biggest grin and started to giggle a bit which made Sirzechs come and look and the look he gave made Grayfia burst out laughing as Sirzechs was stunned with wide eyes and mouth open. This gave Issei the perfect pun to use on Sirzechs.
"Ne Sirzechs why the long face, seen a ghost," Issei says then started laughing causing Grayfia and Raynare to laugh once looking at Sirzechs when Issei said the joke and couldn't stop
"Har har, very funny guys," Sirzechs said as he pouted, knowing he got caught out of character.
"I couldn't help it, it was just your face, and that pun just fitted at the right time, should we try the Rook promotion next Ray? For this one, we are using the moving target field. That way you can try out the strength and defense side of things," Issei says while still giggling about what he said to Sirzechs
"Hai!" Raynare says with a big smile on her face as she was starting to enjoy this treatment as she never really experienced this to an extent.
As everyone moved towards the open space with the moving targets and waited for Raynare to get into position to try the next promotion, Sirzechs was really proud of what Issei was doing and hoped he could treat him to something to which he asked a question.
"Issei, I want to thank you for your help in trying to free Rias and still hope she doesn't do anything stupid to ruin the chance, is there any way I can treat you as thanks maybe an upgrade to your house or something?" Sirzechs asked with a promising look.
"Honestly I don't expect anything from you, Sirzechs. Mainly because I get how it would feel being forced to marry someone you don't love." Issei states while looking at Sirzechs in the eyes.
"I understand that Issei but please let me do this not as a Maou but as a brother since we will be family," Sirzechs says with his hand on his heart.
"Ok… sure… you win. But I don't want a big ass western mansion, I'd like a Japanese style mansion with a dojo and Hotsprings in the backyard and maybe a training room underground with a swimming pool underneath as well if that's possible, cause then when I do get a peerage least we can train and relax there" Issei suggested after understanding.
"That's fair I will get it sorted in a day or 2 when you are at school," Sirzechs said, happy he'd gotten Issei to agree on that at least.
"Anyways Ray, when you're ready to promote to rook and take on the moving targets, go ahead. There are also some hidden ones that we shoot at you to test your defense," Issei said, now focusing back on what he was doing.
"Hai, Promotion Rook!" Shouted Raynare as she gets ready to take on the targets.
"Ok now go!" Grayfia shouted once they were all ready to see the changes.
As soon as Grayfia said go Raynare started running. She noticed the speed had dropped a bit, but also noticed the increase in defense and power in other areas were now higher than with the other promotions. As Raynare made her move she got hit by a couple of magic shots which only pushed her back but did not deal any noticeable damage, it stunned her momentarily but she quickly pressed onto the target and prepared to summon her light spear. Different from normal however it turned into a pair of knuckle dusters made of light and hit the target straight on and the force sent shockwaves for miles. Everyone was stunned by this, even Raynare herself. Sirzechs meanwhile had stars in his eyes, knowing his sister was in safe hands with this new peerage member, with Issei looking out for her and Sona doing the same.
"Well, I would say that's the test done, well done Ray. Once I sort this out with Rias I will teach you some hand-to-hand and other combat styles which can help out for training if you would like, but first, once the piece is out we will measure you and see how many pieces you'll need." Issei said with a cheerful smile and patted Raynare on the head for a job well done, forcing her to blush.
Grayfia picked up the gadget to scan Raynare to see how many pieces she would take as a pawn and was happy with the estimate that Issei called.
"Well looks like you're right Issei ufufufu, Ray-chan is worth three pieces, close to four" Grayfia stated.
"Nice three still a good result and being nearly four shows how strong you could get" Issei said while looking at everyone and they all nodded in agreement.
"That sounds good to me ok I will take these proxy pieces back with me and I will get back to the office and tell them the good news and also sort the plans out for your house redesign," Sirzechs said as he prepares his magic circle.
"Sweet. Say hi to Sera-chan for me please, and thanks for the help." Issei says as he watches Sirzechs start to disappear into his magic circle.
"Will do. Stay safe everyone," Sirzechs said as he disappeared.

"Well, I guess it's time for us to head home as well, want me to do the honors Grayfia?" Issei asked hoping she would agree
"Nope I got this." Grayfia says as she prepares a magic circle for all three of them to head back home.

As everyone came out of the magic circle back home as Issei started to walk away he mentioned he was going to pray which lead to a closed-off room that neither Grayfia nor Raynare knew about and wondered what was inside so Grayfia decided to ask the question.
"Hey Ise, I was wondering what's inside that room that you're going into?" Grayfia asks out of curiosity
"Oh, this room. Well it's where I talk to my parents about the events that have been going on, it's a custom in Japan when our loved ones have passed. We have like a mini shrine in the house or wherever to pay our respects to them." Issei said enlightening them.
"I see, may we pay respect as well as I would love them to know that you are looked after," Grayfia asked with Raynare also nodding hoping for approval.
"Sure if you would like, I bet they would be happy, they would so adopt you as daughters knowing them hehe," Issei said with a smile and soft giggles.
As they entered the room they saw a makeshift shrine with both his parents' pictures in photo frames with incense in the middle. Issei lit the sticks and sat down in a prayer motion while Grayfia and Raynare followed his movements, but heard no words spoken. Assuming it was custom to pray in silence, they too did not speak up.
