Chapter 9! Yey! Let's go!
Chapter 9
Right around the corner
Ben, along with the rest of his classmates, were in their classroom, collecting and sorting out their stuff after the day's robot-filled event. Everyone was talking and muttering about today's events. Wondering who the hell built those robots, if 1-B would now show them some respect, or whatever will happen to the sports festival. Ben however, wasn't saying a word. His mind was too crowded to even bother listening to his classmates.
'With that first robot, there could have been a chance it wasn't squid-face's... but with a massive army of robots, each and every one of them looking like Vilgax's... then there's almost not even a shadow of a doubt...' Suddenly, he regained his focus as he heard someone gasp. "Huh?" As he turned his head, he spotted something unexpected. A massive crowd of student flocking outside their classroom. "Uh... what the..." He closed his desk as he walked over to the front of the class to get a better look.
It seems the gasp came from Uraraka, who had opened the door to exit, only to be met by a massive crowd. "W-why are you all here?!" She asked, confused.
"Do you have some sort of business with our class?" Iida asks, a lot more composed.
"They're scouting out the competition, morons." He muttered. "We survived a villain attack. They wanna see if we measure up."
Ben raised an eyebrow. "A villain attack? Guess they didn't get the memo." He laughed. "We survived a second one today!" He said pridefully, crossing his arms.
"Self-absorbed, huh? As expected." A tired and monotone voice muttered, as someone pushed his way through the crowd, revealing himself. He had purple, messy hair, with deep bags under his eyes. "It's dissapointing to know that assholes got into the hero course, and I didn't." He talked weakly, yet there was an obvious hint of contempt in his voice. "But, now that the sports festival's rolling in, I get my second chance." This made Ben raise a brow. "If I, or anyone else for that matter, show they're good enough during the festival, we get into the hero course..." He narrowed his eyes. "But that means they'll have to make room for them." This made everyone weary. "So watch your back... or I'll steal your spot from right under your feet." He hissed.
"Yeah!" A loud voice echoed out from the crowd, as someone pashed their way through the crowd. "Watch your back!" A short boy reveals himself, with a nassely voice, and grape-like growths covering his scalp. "Or we-" He shuts up the second he spots Uraraka. "Uh... well..." He grinned. "I could hold back." He grinned charismatically, making Uraraka raise an eyebrow in confusion. He then looked around, spotting the rest of the class' girls, as his nose began to bleed. "W-well..."
"Dude..." Ben called out to the boy, making him turn to him. "Uh... you got some..." He pointed at his nose, making the short boy put a hand on his face, noticing the blood.
"Uh..." He wiped the blood away, as he winked at the girls and running off.
"What an interesting character." Ben muttered.
"What a creep..." Jiro muttered.
Kaminari scratched his head. "I don't know, he seemed pretty fun-" Before he could finish his train of thought, Jiro stabbed him in the ear with her earphone jack, blasting it with her sonic attack. "AAAGGHHH-"
The purple haired boy was irritated that he had been interrupted, and that the focus was no longer on him. He clared his throat. "I didn't come here to scout out the competition! I was here to tell you that if you don't do your best, then I'll take your spot... this was a declaration of war!"
"Whatever." Bakugo muttered as he pushed the purple-haired student out of the way, glaring at the crowd. "Move... you extras..."
'WHAT IS HE DOING?!' His classmates all screamed internally.
Kirishima rushed forwards shouting after Bakugo. "What are you doing?! You can't just say stuff like that! You'll turn everyone against us!"
Bakugo turned to look at him. "Does it look like I care?" Everyone in the class wanted to scream at him. "Our job is to beat them, and prove that we've earned our spot here..." He muttered as he walked off.
Kirishima stood quietly for a second or two, before tears began to form in his eyes. "I hate how manly that exit was..." He said, as he clenched his fist.
Kaminari, who had escaped Jiro's wrath, looked at Kirishima, perplexed. "Huh?"
"You said it..." Sato muttered, agreeing with Kirishima.
"Wha-"
"He isn't wrong. It's our duty to beat them..." Tokoyami said stoically.
"Are you guys serious?! Don't agree with him! He's the reason everyone's against us!" Kaminari screamed at them.
"True, but then again, there might not even be a festival now." Ben said.
"Are you serious thet we should still hold the festival?!" All Might asked perplexed, sitting along with his fellow U.A. staff. He was looking at Nezu, who had just said that he thought that they shouldn't cancel the festival. "With two villain attacks spanning the time of less then a week?!"
"Calm down All Might." Midnight said, waving for him to sit back down. "Let's hear him out." All Might sat back down, altough hesitantly.
Nezu cleared his throat. "I understand your concerns, but there truly is no reason to fret. I wouldn't even consider holding the festival unless our student's safety were guaranteed."
"But how can you guarentee their safety if those robots could hide from us so efficiently? And so many at that." Power Loader, a man with claw-like groths on his fingers and a large, excavator-like mask, asked. "And now with the USJ destroyed-" Thirteen choked up as he said this. He cleared his throat. "A lot of U.A.'s budget and much of my time will go to rebuilding it, so I won't be able to help with enhancing the security."
"We've actually thought about this." Nezu said.
'We?' The teacher's thought.
"Who's we?" Snipe asked.
"Me and the Hero Public Safety Commision." He said. "They've contacted an organization that will assist us in ensuring the festival's safety." Before anyone has time to ask how, Nezu continues. "They've already confirmed they'll be able to reverse engineer the robot's technology, and figure out how to defy their camoflauge and locate them. They'll also add enhanced sensors, cameras and just general security." He said, which seemed to ease the teacher's worries.
"I see..." All Might said. 'It seems that Midoriya still has his chance to show what he's got.' He thought, hopeful.
The week leading up to the event was full of non-stop training from all of U.A.'s students, and Ben was one of them. Normally he would see this as a waste of time, but they were allowed to train on school ground, letting them use their quirks freely, and Ben wasn't gonna pass that up!
As Heatblast, Eye Guy and Diamondhead he was blasting holes through the faux villains and racing around as XLR8 and Cannonbolt in ground Beta: the city-scape.
As wildmutt, Wildvine, Blitzwolfer, Stinkfly and Ditto he was flying, jumping and training his acrobatics in a pipe-filled maze, titled Ground Gamma.
On the school's gym he was training his strength as Four Arms.
In the schools pool he was traning his swim strength as Rip Jaws.
As Upgrade he was training his hacking and upgrading, and as Grey Matter he was training his problem solving in the development studio.
As the week passed, the sports festival was coming around. Ben was resting in his room, exhasted, as he tiredly was getting ready to head out. He was walking through the plumber base, looking for the teleporter room. As he was heading down, he found himself passing through the monitoring deck, and he decided to check in on it.
"Hey guys, how's it goin?" He asked, as he waved at everyone. Everyone waved back, with the expection of Patelliday, who was busy with looking through some tablet.
Ben walked up to him, and poked him on the shoulder. "Woah!" He suddenly spun around, getting ready to karate chop the teen, until he realized it was Ben. "Oh... hello son. How's it goin?" He asked, getting back to looking at his tablet.
"I'm fine... what are you watching."
"Hm? Oh, I'm just checking on some things. Making sure your school isn't gonna get blown into the sky by more villains..." He muttered, typing something on his tablet.
"Ah... wait... what?"
"Well, some organization called the Hero Public Safety Commision contacted us wanting to help them with some sort of security beef-up on your school. Some kind of school festival." He muttered, continuing typing stuff on his tablet.
"Ah... wait... how do they know about the plumbers?!" He asked.
"Appearently they've had connections to us for years. Some sort of alien encounter and plumber shoot-out leading to a hero talking to the association about us. It's a complicated and long-winded story that I don't care to talk about right now. All you need to think about sonny is getting to school."
"Ah, right, sorry!" He said, running off.
"Good luck!" Patelliday shouted after him as he ran off. "Hmm... he's gotten in a lot of trouble recently." He muttered.
As Ben ran through the halls, he did a sick slide to slow himself down, as he ran into a room. As he did, he slid down a set of stairs to a large kitchen-like room. As he entered he saw two people standing in the room before him.
The first person was obviously an alien, with gross, wrinkly skin, with scales on his neck and eyes perched on thick and short eyestalks. His plumber suit had a goofy helmet full of water. His name was Magister Labrid. He was talking to the other man in the room.
That man was slightly shorter then him, but he was wider, with mostly white hair and a wrinkly, but a lot less unsettling face. He was clearly human, and he was cooking something in a large pot. He was wearing a white pair of pants and a red shirt, covered in a flower-pattern. His name was-
"Grandpa!" Ben shouted as he hugged the man.
He laughed. "Hey Ben." He smiled as he returned the hug. "How are you doing?"
"It seems like you're busy. I'll come back later." Labrid said, as he walked out of the room.
"I'm good!" Ben answered Max.
"So, I'm guessing you're here for breakfast!" He said, as he lifted up a ladle from the pot, sipping its contents.
"Uh... what is it?" He asked, looking into the pot.
"Wait, Ben-" Just as he said this, something leapt from the pot, slapping Ben in the face, sending him flying.
What had leapt from the pot looked like a red, large, carp-like creature, with expression-less eyes and yellow accents. It began flopping around, jumping away from Ben and Max. Max pulled out some odd-looking pistol and taking aim, as Ben got up and activated the Omnitrix.
"Ragh!" He roared, as he leapt at the carp as Ripjaws. It leapt into the air, slapping him in the skull with its fin. "Ouch!" He groaned as his head was thrown into the ground. He spun around, trying to grab it, but it spun around, batting his arm away. "What is this thing?!" He roared, as he tried to grab it, but it dodged by flopping.
"Magicis! It's a lot tougher and faster then it looks!" He said, shooting at it with some kind of dart, but the Magicis jumped out of the way, the dart hitting the ground. "Keep it still!"
Ripjaws nodded as he jumped into the air, grabbing a light and swinging himself at the fish, as he body-slammed it. He then got up as it was stunned, grabbin it. "Shoot!"
Max nodded, as he shot the carp in the face. It quickly stopped flopping around, as the dart contained a sedative. Ripjaws, sighed as he threw the thing at Max, who removed the dart dropped the thing into the pot again. "Why didn't you cook it like normal fish... you know... by chopping it up?"
"Its flesh is too bitter and sour to eat. Instead of cooking it, I leave it in broth to savour the scale's salty flavor." Max said. "When I'm done, I return it to the Plumber's aquarium." He said as he began mixing the broth. He sniffed it. "Mmm... delicious! Want some?"
He detransformed. "Uh... I'll just pick something up on the festival." He said, smiling awkwardly.
"Hmm, suit yourself." He said, taking another sip from the ladle.
"Uh... so you'll watch, right?"
"Of course. I'll join Gwen and your folks to check it out as soon as possible!" He said, smiling.
Ben grinned. "See ya Gramps!" He said, running off.
"Bye!" He chuckled. "Good luck."
Epilogue
(People wanted me to change the name back to normal, so I did... and I agree, it sounds cooler.)
A lanky man was sitting typing away at a screen, his glasses reflecting the glow from the monitor, making them shine in the dark. His serious appearence and colorful hair didn't go together very well. As he was typing, someone entered his dark room. "Sir Nighteye!" She shouted, trying to get his attention.
He didn't bother looking at them. "What do you want?"
"You have a letter!" She said, waving it around.
"How would this be importent enough to disturb me?" He asked, his tone growing serious as he looked at her, making her stiffen up.
"W-well... ehm..." She was shaking. "Because it was from another pro..."
Now this peaked his interest... but only slightly. "Who?"
"Ehm..." She looked at the letter. "It's from someone named Gran Torino..."
Nighteye motioned for her to bring the letter to him. She did. "Leave me be." As he said this, she immediately did as he wished, closing the door behind her. He tore the letter open, inspecting its contents. 'All Might has revealed his identity... to a U.A. student who isn't his successor?' He narrowed his eyes. "Ben... Tennyson?" He raised an eyebrow as he read the last name. "I see..."
Foreshadowing! My favourite! So anyway, nothing special in this chapter. Pretty short. Next chapter will be the epic sports event, so I just wanted a shot filler chapter! So anyway. Hope you're looking forwards to the sports festival. Cuz I know I am!
