It's a quiet night in the city as Tokoha Anjou walks up to a very traditional Japanese restaurant, and outside the doors, she sees a familiar figure as that figure waves at her. "Kazuma!" she greets him, "Great to see you."
"You too Tokoha." He replies, "Come on, everyone's waiting inside." He guides her inside the restaurant and to a private room in the back where even more familiar faces reside. Shion, Am, Luna, and Taiyou are all there, and they greet Tokoha as she and Kazuma walk in the door.
Tokoha smiles at them and says, "It's great to see you all."
The six of them share a dinner together, which they haven't done in over 20 years, and all was delightful until Shion brings up the biggest topic. After taking a sip of his tea he says, "Fighter's Royal starts tomorrow."
"Yeah." Kazuma replies with a nod, "You didn't tell your kids the true purpose of this tournament, right?" he asks as he looks at Tokoha and Shion.
"No, Alex doesn't know anything," Tokoha tells him, "but you know I hate keeping secrets from her, knowing Chrono's aunt did the same to him."
"Well, we need to make sure she's ready before we bring her along with our plan." Shion explains and Tokoha nods in agreement.
"What about you Shion? Does Eiji know?" Taiyou asks and Shion shakes his head.
"No… but I'm very concerned about him." He says and everyone hangs their head.
"He entered on a team with Koharu correct?" Kazuma asks.
"Yeah, and one of her friends from school." Shion answers. He stops to take a sip of tea, then resumes talking, "I know we agreed to give Koharu shelter after her family went out of business, and I stand by that because I wish someone had done that for me, but still, Eiji seems to be getting too friendly with Koharu if you know what I mean."
"I know." Kazuma says, "I think he tried to do the same to Rina, but thankfully Rina escaped unharmed."
"That's good." Tokoha says as she sighs in relief.
Kazuma then raises his head and looks at all his friends, "There's something else I need to tell you all. Ryuzu and I have reason to believe that they have entered the tournament as well."
"Are you sure?!" Taiyou asks in shock.
"Yes." Kazuma answers, "and if this is true, this tournament may be more dangerous than we anticipated for our children."
"Well, there's nothing we can do to stop them now, in fact, we shouldn't stop them." Tokoha says, "If I want to tell Alex the truth, she needs to win the tournament. That's what I promised."
"Yes." Shion says, "Well all we can do now is wish them luck and pray for their safety, but don't let them handle everything on their own. We don't want them to pull a Chrono." Everyone laughs at Shion's comment, and then he raises his wine glass and everyone follows. "To a great Fighter's Royal."
"To a great Fighter's Royal!" everyone else cheers as they all clink their glasses together, thus, signaling the start of Vanguard's biggest tournament in history.

Drive 19 – Fighter's Royal Begins!
The next morning, Tokoha is working on her laptop on the living room couch as Alex runs down the stairs, "Bye mom!" she shouts.
"Bye Alex, and hey!" she calls out making Alex stop and look back, "Good luck." She tells her and Alex smiles back.
"Yeah. We're gonna win the tournament, just you watch!" Alex replies with confidence as she runs out the door and Tokoha smiles.
A few hours later, at Card Capital 2, where her team decides to get some last-minute training in before the announcement of the tournament. Alex looks out the window at the sun rays beaming through the dense clouds as Rina and Yui have a cardfight. "I can't wait! Today's the day! Fighter's Royal is starting today."
"I know, which is why we need to be fully prepared because we never know when it's gonna start." Rina says as she calls a unit and attacks with it.
"Well I'm excited," Yui says as she plays a guard, "I've wanted to participate in a tournament with Alex for so long now, and it's finally happening.
Rina does a drive check as she says, "We've done pretty much all we can to get ready, so now we just wait."
"UGH! But I hate waiting! I want this tournament to start now!" Alex complains as she stretches out on the couch.
"Well you won't have to wait too long." Taiyou says from behind the counter, "The tournament is closer than you think." All three girls look over at him in confusion, but just then, they hear the Vanguard Association theme playing outside which shocks them all.
The three girls run outside and to a nearby park to get a better view of the Association tower, and atop the tower is a hologram projection of the MC, "GOOOOOD MORNING JAPAN!" he shouts, "ARE YOU READY TO FIGHT?!" and the girls can hear people cheering in the distance. "You've had to wait five months, but the wait is over! We are ready to begin our first ever FIGHTER'S ROYAL!" He shouts and the cheering gets louder.
"It's starting! Finally!" Alex cheers as she jumps in the air.
"And now, here to explain the rules of the tournament, it's the biggest name in all of Vanguard, and the current head of the association, thought to have cheated death by reincarnation, it's RYUZU MYOUJIN!" the hologram then changes into a hologram of a tall man with very long dark blueish-green hair, wearing a white suit, and holding his hands behind his back.
"Who's that?" Rina asks.
"That's Ryuzu Myoujin, the leader of the association. They said he died and was reborn, and that's why he's so young. I also heard he was even friends with my father." Alex explains.
"Really?!" Yui asks in shock.
"Who wasn't friends with your father?" Rina questions with narrow eyes.
"Thank you, MC," Ryuzu says, "Greetings fighters from all over Japan. Fighter's Royal is my pride and joy and we hope you enjoy it to its fullest!" and the people's cheers get stronger and louder, and people from all over Japan are watching this announcement, from the most modern of cities to the most traditional of low-end homes, and even in underground places. "Before we begin, I'll explain how this tournament is going to work. This tournament is divided into two phases. Phase one will be a Battle Royal across all of Japan! For the next three days you can challenge anyone you want to a cardfight and they must accept. When you get into a fight with another competitor, you and them bet Royal Points. Everyone please open up your Fighter's App."
Alex and her team do that and notice a new section has been added for Royal Points. "What's this?" Alex questions seeing as she has 1000.
"Royal Points are special to this tournament, and they are needed to participate in cardfight. While setting up for the fight, both players will be the same number of Royal Points, and the winner of the fight will take whatever the loser bet, and if your Royal Points, hits 0, you are out of the tournament, but, not all hope is lost. Your teammates can give you some of their Royal Points if you're at 0 to get you back in the tournament, but once all members on your team have 0 points, then you're all out for good."
"I see." Rina mutters understanding the rules.
"This Battle Royal will last three days, and at the end of these three days, the top eight teams with the highest combine score amongst its members will move on to the next phase. New GIRS Fight Tables have been set up in specific locations throughout the city for you to hold your cardfights. Some of these locations may also impact certain aspects of the game so keep that in mind. That's all for the rules of the tournament. Once again, we at the Association thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for participating in this tournament. So go out there and show us you can win!"
The people cheer as Alex smiles with joy, "This is gonna be so awesome!"
"Now I've kept you waiting long enough. Let's kick off the first ever Fighter's Royal!" Ryuzu says as he raises a hand in the air, and everyone cheers, "Say it with me. Stand up…!"
"VANGUARD!"
"It's begun!" Rina says.
"Yeah, let's start looking for people to fight." Alex says, shortly before they are called out.
"Well, well, look who it is." A snobby and arrogant voice. Alex and her team look over to see Subaru Morikawa and two other delinquent kids standing across the sidewalk from them, "I've been waiting for this. Alex Shindou! I, Subaru Morikawa, the best fighter in the card shop, challenge you to a cardfight!"
"Nice Subaru." The fat delinquent praises him.
"Yeah, she's quaking in her boots!" the skinny delinquent taunts.
"Uh sorry…" Alex pauses for a moment as she scratches her cheek, "do I know you?" she asks and the three flop to the floor.
"IT'S ME! SUBARU MORIKAWA!" Subaru shouts, "The best fighter in Card Capital 2?!"
Alex thinks long and hard, but shrugs and says, "Sorry, not ringing any bells, but if it's a fight you want, you've got it!" and pulls out her deck.
Subaru smirks and says, "Well, I'll just make you remember my name by beating you!"
The two teams head to a nearby park where they find a special Fight Table. As they're setting up, Subaru says, "I bet all 1000 of my points."
"That's all of them!" Alex exclaims.
"Meaning if you lose, you'll be out of the tournament!" Subaru says and chuckles as the two delinquents with him clap.
Rina says and puts a hand on her forehead as she says, "As if I expected anything less from idiots."
"Alright, if I got to bet 1000 points, that's what I'll do!" Alex says as she puts her points on the line (Bet: 1000). Both Alex and Subaru then place their hands on their starters and declare in unison, "Stand up… VANGUARD!"
"Steam Maiden, Kashima Early (G0/5000)!" Alex declares.
"Diamond Runner (G0/5000)!" Subaru declares. Just then, the fight table then projects bigger holograms of the units than what the other ones could do. Alex looks back at Kashima Early's hologram behind her and is in awe of how real it looks.
"Whoa!" she exclaims, "This is amazing! It's like the units are actually here!"
"Don't get distracted now!" Subaru shouts, "I'm going first. Draw!" Subaru looks at the card he drew and smiles, "Now rewrite the present and give me what I want! Go! G Assist 2!"
"G Assist 2?" Alex questions.
"Listen closely little girl." The fat delinquent says.
"You're about to get a lesson in greatness!" the skinny delinquent says.
"If I don't have any cards to ride by my ride phase, I reveal my hand to you. LOOK!" Subaru explains as he reveals his hand to Alex and she is in shock at its contents.
"B-But… they're all grade 3s!" she exclaims.
"Amazing isn't it?" Subaru says, "Next, I look at the top five cards of the deck, and add to my hand a card that is one grade higher than my Vanguard." Subaru looks at his cards and smirks, "If there are none in the top five, I can check the next five, and I keep checking five until I find a card to ride." Subaru then manages to find a grade 1 in the next five cards he checked. "After that, I search my deck for two cards for every five cards I checked with the G Assist, and those cards can no longer be used in the match. So these four units can no longer be used, and also two cards from my G Zone can't be used. That is the G Assist."
"How come I never heard of this?" Alex questions.
"Because no one's stupid enough to clog their deck with grade 3s." Rina says and Yui giggles awkwardly.
"Insolence!" Subaru says, trying to sound cool, "I'm gonna make all of you eat those words! Ride! Mecha Brawler (G1/8000)! Using Runner's skill, I look at the top seven cards of my deck for a grade 2 card, add it to my hand, and shuffle the deck. Since I added a card, I discard a card. I end my turn."
"Okay, let's do this! Ride! Steam Mouse Elal (G1/8000)!" Alex declares and Yui looks on with glee.
"Oh! That's Alex's new deck we help her put together!" she says.
"Yeah, let's hope it works." Rina adds.
"Using Kashima Early's skill look at the top five cards and add a gearoid to my hand. Next I use Elal's skill! I bind Steam Scara Nanum in my hand, and, since she's grade 3, add 5000 power to Elal (8000-13000) (Bind: 0-1/G0-3), then Soul Blast and draw a card (Soul 1-0). I call Steam Fighter Memenne (G1/6000)! Boost and attack the Vanguard (13000-19000)!"
"No guard." Subaru says (Subaru: []). "Ride! Deadly Rusher (G2/10000)! Using his skill (Soul 2-1). I draw a card and if that card is grade 3 or greater, I can call it." Subaru smiles and says, "I call Juggernaut Maximum (G3/13000)!"
"A grade 3 unit already?!" Yui exclaims.
"Juggernaut Maximum's skill, add 10000 power (13000-23000). Deadly Rusher attacks your Vanguard!"
"No guard." Alex declares.
"Drive Check (Critical). There we go, a Critical Trigger. Power to Juggernaut (23000-33000), Critical to Rusher (10000/Crit 1-2)!" Rusher kicks Elal in the stomach, and everyone can see it happening.
"Damage Check (Draw). A Draw Trigger! Power to Elal (8000-18000) and draw." (Alex: [])
"Juggernaut attacks the Vanguard!" Juggernaut tackles Elal causing her to scream and the mouse to leap from her pocket. (Alex: [][])
"My turn! Ride! Steam Lynx, Shar-kali (G2/10000). Using Memenne's skill! Discard a card and draw a card. I call Steam Mechanic Nabu (G2/10000) and Steam Hunter Feena (G1/8000)! Boosted by Memenne, Shar-kali attacks the Vanguard! Shar-kai's skill! I bind the Steam Performer Ibaranum in my drop zone (Bind: 1-2/G3-4) to search my deck for a unit with 1 higher grade and call it. I call Steam Maiden Susuda (G2/10000), with her skill! "Oh yeah, they recently made Front Triggers usable by all clans." Rina comment.

Shar-kali mixes up some chemicals and tosses them at Subaru's Vanguard. "Damage Check (Heal)." Subaru declares and smiles, "Heal Trigger. Recover one damage (10000-20000) (Subaru: []).
"Susuda attacks the Vanguard!" (Subaru: [][]) "Boosted by Feena, Nabu attacks the Vanguard!" (Subaru: [][][]).
"Heh, you're doing well" Subaru comments as he draws a card, "however, you're about to witness what true power is!" Him saying this hits Rina as she has a realization.

"Because with power, you can do absolutely anything you want!" Eiji holds out his fist like a king ruling his nation. (Drive 12)

Rina clinches her fist in anger hearing Subaru say those powers.
"Alex watch out!" Yui screams, which snaps Rina out of her daydream and puts her attention back on the fight.
"Let's go! Plow through everything in your path, because you are unstoppable! STRONGEST RIDE!" In place of Subaru's previous vanguard, a new overly muscular man dressed in diamond-encrusted football armor appears. "Super All-Star Frontline Assault, Diamond Dan (G3/13000)! I activate Juggernaut Maximum's skill! Send him to the soul (Soul 3-4) and call a Juggernaut Maximum from the deck! Since its name is can be treated as Juggernaut Maximum, I call Juggernaut Primal (G3/13000) and activate his skill, add 10000 power, or, if there's a Juggernaut Maximum in the soul, add 15000 instead (13000-28000). I call Bad End Dragger (G3/13000), two Gunwild Wolves (G3/13000) (G3/13000) and Front-line command, Sigiswald (G3/13000)!"

I also use Diamond Dan's skill ([X][X][])! Put one Gunwild Wolf on bottom of my deck and add 5000 power to Dan for each of my grade 3 rear-guards! Since I have four, add 20000 power (13000-33000)! Then if he gained 15000 or more power, add 1 Critical (33000/Crit 1-2)!"

"Twin Drive (none/none). Hooo no trigger." Subaru says happily as his attack is blocked. Bad End Dragger attacks! Using his skill ([X][X][X])! Put the other Gunwolf on the bottom of the deck to add 5000 power and 1 critical (13000-18000/Crit 1-2)!"
"No guard…" Alex mutters as Dragger throws a football that goes right over her head and hits Shar-kali (Alex: [][][][][]).
"Five damage?!" Yui exclaims.
"How is this guy winning?" Rina asks in both shock and confusion.
"Hahaha! Told you ya couldn't missy." Subaru taunts Alex, "How about you just give up now before my strongest deck pounds you into the dust?"
"Are you kidding?" Alex asks, "I'm only just getting started!" Alex draws a card and says, "I activate Feena's skill! Bind her (Bind 3-4/G6-7) and call High Steam Hunter Feena from my deck, and with the skill, add 2000 power (G2/10000-12000)!" She then chants, "Alright, let's go! To an infinite future of limitless possibilities! Ride! High Steam Maiden Kashima (G3/12000)! Using Memenne's skill, discard and draw. I also discard Steam Gunner Riche to cheat the Soul Drive, allowing Kashima to activate her soul drive now!"
"You're kidding!" Subaru exclaims.
"I send cards from my bind zone with their total grades being 4 or more to my drop zone (Bind: 4-2/G7-3). Kashima's Soul Drive activates! "What?!" Alex exclaims.

Alex grits her teeth and says, "I end my turn."
"Then it's my turn. Stand and draw." Subaru states, "Now it's time I show you the true power of grade 3s!" Alex braces, ready for Subaru to take action, "I activate Juggernaut Maximum's skill! Send him to the soul (Soul 4-5) and superior call Juggernaut Primal from my deck since he's treated as Maximum, and add 15000 power (G3/12000-27000)! Next, by discarding a grade 3 from my hand, I can activate Diamond Dan's Soul Drive! Add 2000 power, 1 grade, and 1 drive (G3-4/13000-15000/drive 2-3)! I call Bad End Dragger (G3/13000)!"

I use his other skill ([X][X][X][X][])! I send Sigiswald to the bottom of my deck and add 10000 power to Diamond Dan for each of my grade 3 rear-guards!"
"But then that's…" Alex mutters, and Subaru finishes her sentence.
"Add 40000 power to Diamond Dan (15000-55000)!"
Alex looks at the heal trigger in her hand and says, "I guess I have no choice." She then takes the trigger from her hand and puts it into the drop zone, declaring, "Liberating the Generation Zone!"
Subaru is taken aback by this and says, "I-It can't be!"
Alex swipes a card from her G-Zone and chants, "Come from the future and protect my future! Generation Guard! Time Sorceress, Kalanum (GX/Shield: 25000)!"
Yui sees the unit appear out of thin air and says, "Whoa! So that's one of the new G-Guardians."
"Yeah," Rina begins to explain, "By discarding a heal trigger while your Vanguard is Driven, you can call a Grade X G-Guardian, which have more shield than the old G-Guardians."
"Activating Kalanum's skill! Bind the top card of my deck (Bind 5-6/G10-11), and add 5000 to the shield for every 5 grades in my bind zone. Since the total grade is 11, add 10000 Shield (25000-35000)! On top of that, Guard (10000)!" (35000+10000=45000)
Subaru grits his teeth and groans at Alex's play. "Don't worry Subaru." The fat delinquent says.
"If you draw a trigger, you'll break through and win!" the skinny delinquent tells him.
Subaru looks back and smiles, "You're right. Alright, here we go! Triple Drive!" Subaru flips over the top 3 cards and… (none/none/none) "N-No trigger…" Alex's guard succeeds and the buff football player is pushed back. "Big Back Warlord attacks!"
"Guard and Intercept (5000+5000=10000)!"
"The other Big Back Warlord attacks!"
"No guard." (Alex: [][][][][]).
"I-I end my turn…" Subaru states, getting mad he didn't end it, and event the two delinquents are getting nervous.
"Guess it's my turn! Stand and draw!" Alex smiles as she begins her turn. "I bind Elal and Susuda to liberate the Generation Zone (Bind: 6-7-8/G11-13-14)!" Alex then imagines herself flying through a starry vortex with a bright light at the end. She raises her fist and chants, "Now show it to me! A future made from infinite possibilities! Generation… STRIIIIIIDE!" A purple Vanguard Circle then engulfs her as everything fades to white. In the real world, the image of a massive holographic dragon descends onto the board in place of Kashima, "Interdimensional Dragon, Chronograph Dragon (GX/25000)! Due to the skill of Elal in my bind zone, her grade increases by 1 (Bind: 8/G14-15). Now, Chronograph Dragon attacks the Vanguard!"
"It's okay, I have a grade 1 and 2 in my hand, I can guard with those and I'll be safe as long as she doesn't get a trigger." Subaru thinks to himself.
"I activate Chronograph's skill!" Alex declares and Subaru is startled, "If the total grade of cards in my bind zone is 15 or more, I double Chronograph's power and critical!"
"N-No way!" Subaru exclaims while shedding some tears. (25000-50000/Crit 1-2) "I… I don't guard."
"Triple Drive (none/none/Critical). Critical Trigger! All effects to Chronograph Dragon (50000-60000/Crit 2-3)!" Chronograph Dragon fires a beam of energy at Diamond Dan and Subaru, causing Subaru and the delinquents to scream in terror before the holograms disappear, and they are unharmed (Subaru: [X][X][X][X][][]).
Alex jumps in the air while raising her fist and cheers, "Yeah!"
"Way to go Alex!" Yui cheers back as she and Rina run up to her.
"I'm grateful you won that." Rina tells her while crossing her arms, "If you had lost to an idiot like him, I'd have never forgiven you."
"Oh come on, like there was any doubt." Alex boasts and the three girls laugh with each other.
Meanwhile, Subaru sits on his knees while crying as his delinquent friends try to comfort him. He wipes the tears from his eyes as he stands up and points a finger at Alex and calls out, "Hey you!" the three girls then look over at him, "You may have won this fight, but I promise, you won't be so lucky next time!" then he and his friends run off without saying a word.
"Well that was awkward." Alex says.
"Oh yeah! Alex, what about your points?" Yui questions to remind her. Alex pulls out her phone and opens the Fighter's Royal app, to see her points have increased from 1000 to 2000.
"We may have won this fight, but it's just the beginning." Alex tells her friends and they both nod in response. "Let's split up across the city and collect as many points as we can!"
"Okay!" Yui replies with a salute.
"Sounds like a plan." Rina agrees.
The three of them then put their hands in the middle and say in unison, "Let's win this thing!" they break apart and then run in separate directions to find more opponents to fight. This is just the beginning.

Rina encounters Koharu who appears very determined to gather points. The two of them spend some time together as Rina questions Koharu about the... incident. Koharu then challenges Rina saying she can't have her answer until she wins...
