"So where are we going Alex?" Rina asks as she and Yui walk down the night-time street, led by Alex.
"Just wait, you'll love it." Alex tells her, with excitement in her stride.
Rina facepalms and mutters, "Ugh… I don't get you sometimes Alex…"
"Come on Rina, lighten up," Yui tells her with a smile, "I'm sure it'll be fun."
"Do you know where we're going Yui?" Rina asks, but Yui shakes her head.
"Nope, but I'm sure Alex just wants to surprise us." She replies. Alex called them both to meet up with her, saying they were going to do some last-minute training before the last day of the first phase. However, she didn't say what training they were going to do, making Rina concerned.
Just then, they notice Alex stop and turn as she says, "We're here."
Rina and Yui look up to see what Alex sees. They stopped in front of a traditional Japanese-styled building with a large sign out front that depicted a cartoonish-looking chubby man wearing a towel and pouring water on himself. "A bathhouse?!" Rina and Yui say, questioning the location they were brought.

Drive 28 – Naked Fight, part 2
Rina and Yui stand in the changing room of the bathhouse, undressing as they get ready for the bath. Rina unbuttons her shirt and takes it off, before putting it in the basket as she says, "What kind of training would Alex want to do at a bathhouse?"
"I'm not sure…" Yui says as she takes off her dress, "but I've always wanted to visit a bathhouse with you guys." Once she takes off her dress, her rather large breasts are revealed, held back by a bright yellow bra, making Rina envy her.
Just then, they hear the door of the changing room open, and hear Alex's voice say, "I'm back!" they look over to see Alex carrying a basket overflowing with various bath products and a big grin on her face.
Rina's jaw drops seeing this and asks, "Wh-What is all that…?"
"It's for training!" Alex exclaims with excitement. Both Rina and Yui look at each other, as if telepathically saying to each other, "this can't be good." The three of them finish getting undressed and hand the baskets of clothes to the owner to have them washed while they train.
They enter the bathroom, covered by only towels, and the warm and soothing steam embraces them. The room was lined with light-blue tile with a large bathtub in the back of the room, several sitting showers in the middle, and a large mural, depicting a snowy mountainscape. There also wasn't a single person in sight, so they had the entire place to themselves. They quickly rinse themselves off at the showers before getting in the bigger tub. "Ahhhh…" Yui exhales, her cheeks flushed red as she feels the soothing warmth of the water on her skin, "this feels amazing…"
"Yeah, I agree." Rina replies, "It's like all the stress is just being lifted off of me."
Yui looks up to the ceiling and says, "A lot has happened today."
Rina nods and says, "Especially since we found out Cray is real."
"How are you taking all of that?" Yui asks her.
"Well… I still don't want to believe it," she replies, "but after what happened yesterday, how can you deny it?"
Yui lets out a sigh and says, "I wonder how Alex is taking it."
Rina shrugs and responds, "She seems like she's in high spirits, but I wonder if she's just trying to hide her pain. I mean… She finally learned where her father is, and Ryuzu won't even let her in on his plan unless she wins the tournament.
Yui fist pumps and says, "Then we'll just have to try our hardest to help her out!"
But before Rina could even respond, she starts feeling the water around her heat up. She looks over at Yui and asks, "Hey, is it just me, or is the water getting hotter?"
Yui looks around her and replies, "Yeah… it is getting hotter."
They look up to see Alex turning the red valve over the tub. "Alex!" Rina screams, "What are you doing?!"
"This is the first part of our training." She says with a grin, "We gotta withstand the heat of battle!"
"Ow, ow, ow!" Rina exclaims as she stands up and jumps out of the tub. Her entire body from her chest down to her feet had begun to turn red from the heat. "Are you insane?! That water is way too hot! We'll scald!"
"We need to endure it…" Alex says, "If we can't deal with this, how are we expected to defeat Team Crimson?"
Upon mentioning the name, both Yui and Rina reflect back on their experience with the members of Team Crimson. Yui remembers how she failed to make Renka her friend and says, "Alex is right… There's someone on that team who needs help, and I want to help her!" she then sinks herself lower in the almost boiling water attempting to embrace the training.
Rina scowls as she folds her arms and says, "You girls are crazy."
"Come on Rina, didn't you tell me you lost to someone on Team Crimson too?" Alex asks her and Rina thinks back to how she lost to Ichiko.
"Yeah… there is," Rina says, "but sitting in a tub of scalding hot water isn't training! That's just torture!"
"Think of it as an endurance test." Alex tells her.
Rina looks down at her reflection in the water. She then huffs and says, "Fine… I'll humor you." She steps back into the water only to be taken aback by its heat. She finally manages to force her entire body into the water, all the while groaning in pain. After sitting in the water for a moment, she exclaims, "I regret my decision!"
Later, the girls get out of the boiling hot tub and lay on the floor of the bathroom, their bodies tinted red from sitting in the heat. "Okay… maybe that was a bit too intense." She hops up off the floor and says, "Okay, let's try something else."
"Like what…?" Rina asks, concerned about what she has planned next.
Alex turns the blue valve to make the bathwater colder and then pours several bags of ice into it. "We failed with the heat, so let's try ice water."
Rina's eye twitches seeing this and she says, "Are you crazy?! We'll go into shock!" but without even listening to her, Alex steps into the freezing cold tub.
"I-I-I-I-It's an endurance t-t-t-t-t-t-test…" she says, her teeth chattering from the cold.
"Alex… I think Rina's right…" Yui says, "I don't think this is healthy."
Rina folds her arms and says, "There's a fine line between an endurance test, and pure torture."
Alex tries to bare the cold for a while, but she quickly gives up, jumping out of the tub. Both of her teammates look at her, as Alex rubs the back of her head and says, "Yeah… maybe that was a bit intense…"
"Alex," Rina says in annoyance, "I don't think this training is working. Why can't we just make the bath a normal temperature and relax?"
"We can't do that…" Alex mutters, making both her friends' eyes widen, "We can't afford to relax. Our team is falling behind in the tournament, and we need to be at the top of our game!"
Both Rina and Yui look at each other. They know Alex is right, but Rina tells her, in a sorrowful tone, "Yeah, but… if we do this kind of training, we may be too weak to fight tomorrow. I'd rather just sit here and relax so when I go home and sleep, I'll feel recharged in the morning."
"Yeah," Alex argues, "but if we don't get stronger, how will we ever beat Team Crimson? Or better yet, prove to Ryuzu that we're strong enough."
"No Alex!" Rina exclaims, "YOU want to prove yourself to Ryuzu." Rina gets up close to Alex and looks her dead in the eyes, "He doesn't care about me or Yui. You're the daughter of Shindou, so you're the only one that matters in this whole thing!"
Alex hangs her head, casting a shadow over her eyes. She's silent for a moment until she says, "That may be true… but still, this is a team effort." She looks up at both her teammates with a face of determination, "I can't do this on my own. So what if Ryuzu only cares about my strength? You girls are the ones who give me that strength! We're going to fight this threat together, as a team!"
There's silence in the room for a brief moment until Yui nods and responds with, "I'll be with you, Alex! All the way!" She holds her hand over her chest and says, "I want to find my own passion, rather than going along with what others tell me. Vanguard is my passion, and I won't let it be destroyed!"
Alex gives Yui a nod and then looks at Rina and says, "And what about you Rina?"
Rina hangs her head, thinking back to her experience with Vanguard throughout her life. She fell out of love with it for a while, but she eventually grew to love it again, all thanks to Alex. "You're the one who restored my love for Vanguard," she tells her, "Plus, I've got a responsibility to uphold to a friend. So I'll keep fighting alongside you."
Alex smiles and then gives her teammates a hug, saying, "Thank you girls… You two are some of the best friends and teammates I could have asked for…" just then, a light bulb goes off in her head. "I got it! Let's have some cardfights!"
"Right now?" Rina asks, and Alex nods.
"Why not?" she says, "We can give each other pointers on how to improve our skills, and then when we're done, we can soak in the bath to relax."
Rina smiles at Alex's idea and says, "Now that, I can get behind."
Yui then steps forward and asks, "Alex, can I fight you first?"
"Yui…?" Alex mutters.
"I've found a new side of me in Vanguard, and I want to show it to you!" Yui tells her, "I've always wanted to see you as an equal, rather than an apprentice. So let's fight!"
Alex smiles and nods back. "Alright, you're on!"
The girls then put on their towels, and head for the changing room. They set up some playmats on one of the benches, with Alex and Yui sitting on either end of the bench and Rina sitting on a stool off to the side to watch. As Alex is shuffling her deck, she looks at Yui and says, "I think this is the first time we've fought in a long time."
"Yeah, it is…" Yui replies, setting her deck down and drawing her starting hand, "I'm ready…"
"Okay then, let's do this!" Alex exclaims. Alex and Yui look into each other's eyes, ready to prove to each other they have what it takes to be a team together, and then they declare in unison, "Stand up… VANGUARD!"
In a large factory with a dark cloudy sky, two figures emerge.
"Steam Maiden, Ayancia (G0/5000)!" Alex declares.
"Little Red Maiden, Lanol (G0/5000)!" Yui declares.
Alex's eyes widen when Yui reveals her unit. "Neo Nectar?!" she questions, "I thought you used Bermuda Triangle. Why'd you change?'
Yui looks down and says, "I just… couldn't find any joy in Bermuda Triangle. I only used it because that's what other girls my age were using, but after seeing you and Rina, I decided I wanted to change. So yesterday, I changed my deck, and now… I think I have more passion in Neo Nectar than Bermuda Triangle."
Alex and Rina smiled at Yui's conviction. "Well, if that's what you decided, I'll support you all the way."
"Same here." Rina adds.
Yui smiles at her friends and says, "Thanks guys."
"Alright, I'll go first!" Alex states, "Ride! Steam Mouse, Elal (G1/8000)! Using Ayancia's skill, I add Kashima to my hand, and with Elal's skill, I bind one card in my hand (BZ: 0-1/G0-1."
"My turn!" Yui exclaims, "Ride! Maiden of Cherry Blossom, Elola (G1/8000)! Using Lanol's skill! I add a unit from my deck to my hand with the same name as a unit in my hand. Then, with Elola's skill, I discard one card and draw one card. I call Maiden of Gentle Rain, Jasmine (G1/8000)! Jasmine boosts, and Elola attacks the Vanguard (8000-16000)!"
"No guard." Alex declares.
"Drive check (Draw). Draw Trigger! I draw one card, and with the skill, Soul Charge one (Soul 1-2)." (Alex: [])
"Ride!" Alex declares, "Steam Lynx, Shar-kali (G2/10000)! I call Steam Hunter Feena (G1/8000)! Shar-kali attacks the Vanguard!" Shar-kali throws a vial of chemicals at Elola that explodes on impact. (Yui: []) "Feena attacks the Vanguard!"
"Guard (SLD: 10000)!" Yui declares, then begins her turn, "Ride! Dianthus Blooming Maiden, Juno (G2/10000)! With her skill ([X]), I call another Jasmine and add 5000 power (G1/8000-13000). Plus, due to Jasmine's skill, if I have two or more units with the same name, add 5000 power (13000-18000) (8000-13000)! Next I call White Rose Mage, Alexia (G2/10000), and with her skill, add 3000 power (10000-13000)! Jasmine boosts Juno, and attacks your Vanguard (10000-23000)!" Juno flourishes her cape around, causing a storm of white petals that engulfs Alex's Vanguard (Alex: [][]). When the storm fades, she looks up to immediately see Alexia ready to strike, "With a boost from Jasmine, Alexia attacks your Vanguard (13000-31000)!"
"Guard (SLD: 25000)!" Alex smirks as her turn begins, "Let's go my partner, to a world of endless possibilities! Ride!" In Shar-kali's place, a young woman with short white hair and wearing a mercenary attire of a black coat and a green scarf with goggles on her forehead appears, brandishing twin-gun blades, "High Steam Maiden, Kashima (G3/12000)! Feena moves back and I call Susuda (G2/10000)! With her skill, bind the top card of my deck and add 5000 power (10000-15000) (BZ: 1-2/G1-4), next I call Elal (G1/8000), and with her skill, bind a card in my drop zone (BZ: 2-3/G4-6)!"

"I guard (SLD: 40000)." Yui declares.
"Twin Drive (none/Draw)!" Alex smirks and says, "Draw Trigger! I draw one card." Kashima attempts to strike Juno, but four units get in her way.
"You just gave up a lot of your hand right there Yui…" Rina observes.
"I know," Yui responds, "but that's exactly what I wanted to do! Stand and draw! Maiden of glorious spring! Sprout forth a road to a new direction of possibilities! Ride!" a young maiden, adorned in green robes, reminiscent of that of a shrine maiden appears dancing gracefully in a field of pink flowers and trees, as a storm of cherry blossoms blows through the air as Yui calls out her name, "Hibiscus Blooming Maiden, Laverna (G3/12000)!"
Alex smiles and says, "So this is your new Vanguard eh? Alright then, don't hold back on me!"
"I won't, I can promise you that! Activating her Soul Drive! By putting four cards from my drop zone on bottom of my deck, Laverna gains 3000 power, 1 grade, and 1 drive (G3-4/12000-15000/drive 2-3)!" The flowers around Laverna begin to bloom as several parts of her robes fall off, revealing the flower markings that line her arms. "I activate Laverna's skill (Soul 4-3)! I superior call another Jasmine (G1/8000-13000), and since Laverna is Driven, add 5000 power to all Jasmines (13000-18000) (13000-18000) (13000-18000)! Next I call Violet Winds, Kerelyn (G2/10000)! With her skill (Soul 3-2), I draw a card and she gains 5000 power for each of my units with the same name. Since I have three Jasmines on my board, add 15000 power (10000-25000)!"

(Alex: [][][]) "Jasmine boosts, and Laverna attacks the Vanguard (15000-33000)! Activating Laverna's skill ([X][X])! I send two of my Jasmines to the bottom of my deck, then I get to look at seven cards from the top of my deck and superior call two of them. I call two copies of Maiden of Meadowsweet Judith (G2/10000) (G2/10000), and since the two units I sent to the deck have the same name, add 10000 power to all my front row units (33000-43000) (10000-20000)!"
Alex discards a card from her hand and declares, "Complete Guard!"
"Triple Drive (none/none/Draw). Draw Trigger! Add 10000 power to Judith and draw a card, then, with the skill, Soul Charge (Soul 2-3)! With Judith's skill, if there are two or more units with the same name on my board, all of my units can boost, and, since there are two Judiths in the same column, add 4000 power to them both (10000-14000) (20000-24000)! So both of my Judiths attack your Vanguard (24000-38000)!" The two pink-haired fairies fly at Kashima with swords made of magical vines and do a cross-slash attack, making Alex scream in pain. (Alex: [][][][]) "I end my turn."
"Wow, that's impressive." Rina states.
"I'll say," Alex adds, "maybe switching to Neo Nectar was the best fit for you."
Yui nods and says, "Yeah! I feel like I'm doing better with this clan then I ever did with Bermuda Triangle."
Both Alex and Rina smiled at Yui's feelings to switch clans. Then Alex draws a card and declares, "Okay, it's my turn! First, during my Ride Phase, I activate Feena's skill! I bind her and superior call High Steam Hunter Feena from my deck (G2/10000-12000) (BZ: 4-5/G8-9). Next, I activate Kashima's Soul Drive (BZ: 5-3/G9-5)!" Kashima throws off her goggles and scarf, as metallic wings, propelled by blue flames, sprout from her back as she lifts off into the air. "Kashima gains 3000 power, 1 grade, and 1 drive (G3-4/12000-15000/drive 2-3)! I activate the effect of Susuda in my bind zone (Soul 3-2) to superior call her. Then I bind the top card of my deck and give her another 5000 power (G2/10000-15000) (BZ: 3-2-3/G5-3-4). I call Elal (G1/8000), and with her skill, I bind Shar-kali from my drop zone (BZ: 3-4/G4-7)."

"No guard." Yui declares, as Feena charges her crossbow, and fires it straight through Alexia, causing her to disappear into particles.
"Boosted by Elal, Kashima attacks the Vanguard (15000-23000)! Kashima's skill! I bind Feena and add 10000 power, draw a card, and add 1 Critical (23000-33000/Crit 1-2)!"
"I guard with Jasmine and Oakwood Dragon (SLD: 20000) and with Jasmine's skill, since there are two units with the same name, add 5000 to her shield (SLD: 20000-25000)!"
Alex reaches for her deck and declares, "Triple Drive (none/Heal/?)! Heal Trigger!" Yui gasps, knowing her guard is ineffective, "Add 10000 power to Kashima and heal one damage (33000-43000/Crit 2) (Alex: [][][]). Third check (Critical) Critical Trigger! Power to Susuda (15000-25000), Critical to Kashima (43000/Crit 2-3)! HAAAAAA!" Kashima deals three swift strikes to Laverna, each one causing a wail from Yui.
"AAAHHHH!" (Yui: [X][X][][][])
"Boosted by Elal, Susuda attacks the Vanguard (15000-23000)!"
Yui braces herself and declares, "Guard (SLD: 15000)!"
The two girls pant heavily from the fierce battle. "Dang. I didn't expect her to guard that." Rina says.
"Well what else was I going to do?" Yui says, "If I didn't, I would have lost."
"Yeah…" Alex agrees, "but, now you have no cards in your hand."
"I know…" Yui sighs as she looks at her board, "but I'm sure that was the right move for me. I still have a chance, and as long as there's even a slim chance of winning, I'll still keep trying! For myself, and my future!"
Alex smiles at her resolve and tells her, "Then I end my turn."
Yui takes a deep breath and declares, "My turn, stand and draw." But as she reaches for her deck, a sense of hesitation washes over her. She thinks to herself, "What if I don't draw the card I need? What if I can't beat Alex with this deck?" she then thinks back to something Saki told her…
Flashback
Saki deals Yui her sixth damage. Yui moans and says, "You're too good Saki… how do you always get the cards you need, when you need them?"
Saki smirks and says, "You just have to believe."
"Believe?" Yui questions.
Saki walks over and gives Yui a pat on the head. "You just have to believe in yourself. Imagine yourself drawing the very card you need, and you'll get it."
End of flashback
"Imagine it…" Yui mutters to herself. She closes her eyes and envisions the card she needs in her mind. She opens her eyes with resolve and draws the card, however, she's nervous… she doesn't want to look at it for fear of it not being what she wanted. She slowly opens her eyes… and her face lights up with joy. It was exactly what she wanted. She tosses the card into the discard and exclaims, "Liberating the Generation Zone!"
Both Alex and Rina's eyes widen with shock. "She drew a grade 3?!" Rina exclaims.
Yui imagines herself in a starry vortex, her body cloaked in bright white light. She holds her hand over her chest and chants, "Guardian of the Forest, a ray of life, arise and lead me to my ideal future! Generation… STRIDE!" A large dragon rises up from the ground, its wings made of beautiful purple silk, like that of a whimsical butterfly, whose very presence parts the clouds from the sky, allowing the light of the sun to shine through its wings like a stained-glass window. Laverna flies up and lands on the dragon's shoulder as Yui declares its name, "Sacred Tree Dragon, Blessed Root Dragon (GX/24000)!"
Kashima looks up at the dragon, in awe of its majestic glory as Alex says, "So that's your G Unit?"
"I activate Blessed Root Dragon's skill! I send Jasmine and four cards in my drop zone to the bottom of my deck. Then I get to call two copies of one of my rear-guards! So, I superior call two Maidens of Meadowsweet, Judith (G2/10000-14000) (G2/10000-14000)! In addition, Blessed Root Dragon also gains Judith's name! Then I activate Blessed Root's second effect ([X][X][X][][])(Soul 3-2)!"
"It has two effects?!" Alex exclaims.
"I choose Judith! Now… all units with Judith's name gains 15000 power and 1 critical!" Yui exclaims, making Alex flinch back in horror.
"That's like… all of her units!" Rina states.

Alex stares at Yui's army of powered-up units in both fear and amazement. "See Alex?" Yui says with a bright and cheerful smile, "This is my true passion!" Blessed Root attacks Kashima!"
"No guard…" Alex declares… Blessed Root moves its wings, causing roots to rise up out of the ground and ensnare Kashima. (Alex: [][][][][])
"Judith attacks the Vanguard (29000-58000)!"
Alex frantically looks through her hand and declares, "Guard (SLD 45000)!"
"Now my other Judiths attack (29000-58000)!"
Alex then proudly declares, "No guard!" Both of the Judiths strike Kashima, making Alex wince in pain. "You're right Yui… as long as there is even a slim chance of winning, I'm going to take it!"
"Alex…" Rina mutters, "you realize both of these damage checks need to be Heal Triggers for you to stay in the game, right?
"I know." Alex replies, "Like I said, even the slimmest chance! I'm going to take it!" Alex looks at her deck and declares, "Damage Check! First check (Heal)! Heal Trigger! I heal one damage (Alex: [][][][][])!" Alex's breathing intensifies as she reaches for her deck. "Second check!" she declares as she takes off the top card. She looks at it… and her eyes widen when she sees what it is. She smiles, and then moves her hand to put it into her damage zone… (none) "No trigger…" she says. (Alex: [][][][][][])
There is silence in the room, as both Yui and Rina attempt to process what has happened. "I… I won…?" Yui mutters.
Alex lets out a big sigh as she lies down on the bench and says, "Aww man… I lost…" She then looks up at her white-haired friend and says, "You've gotten really strong Yui."
"I'll say." Rina replies, "I kind of want to fight you now."
"Yeah!" Alex says as she sits up, "I definitely want to fight you again too! That was one of the best fights I've ever had with you! I think switching to Neo Nectar was really the best decision for you."
"Y-You… guys…" Yui mutters as tears fall from her eyes. She then leaps off her seat and wraps them both in a big hug, telling them, "Thank you! Both of you!"
"Why are you thanking us?" Alex asks, "Most of that you did on your own."
"Yeah," Rina adds, "we didn't tell you to go to Neo Nectar."
Yui then looks up at both of them and says, "No… Thank you for being the best teammates and friends I could have ever asked for!"
"Hey…" Rina mutters, "Save the mushy stuff for AFTER we've won the tournament."
Alex puts her hand on Yui's shoulder and says, "Yeah… but with your new deck and passion, there's absolutely no way we can lose!"
Yui smiles at them widely and cheerfully as tears continue to flow from her eyes and exclaims, "Yeah!"
The members of K3 then had a couple more cardfights in the changing room before going to relax in the, now appropriate temperature, bath.
Later, after they get dressed, they stand outside the bathhouse as they finish drinking a glass of milk each. "Thanks for bringing us here, Alex." Yui tells her swirly-haired companion.
"For sure." Rina replies, "I was a little concerned I was going to die at first, what with all that ridiculous training you had in mind, but I enjoyed myself there at the end. We should do this again sometime. Without the training… of course."
Alex awkwardly rubs the back of her head and says, "Eh ha ha, Yeah, definitely." She then gives them both a fist pump and says, "Lets do our best tomorrow! We've got a lot of catching up to do!"
Both Yui and Rina nod in response. The three girls then say their goodbyes as they head their separate ways home, ready to take on whatever tomorrow throws at them, and confident they can win the entire tournament.

Rina gets up early to get a head start on the competition. She breezes through several opponents; however, she can feel as if she is being followed. She ends up getting ambushed by an old friend and rival from Yuto's team.

Rina: Yeah. I can't guarantee we'll keep doing these, but today, we just felt like it.
Alex: Today's card we'll be showing off is the very one that Yui beat me with, Sacred Tree Dragon, Blessed Root Dragon!
G Unit / Grade X / 24000 Power / Neo Nectar / Forest Dragon
Rina: Its effect lets you put a rear-guard, and four cards from your drop zone on the bottom of your deck, to call two copies of one of your rear-guards from your deck, and then Blessed Root gets that unit's name. Further emphasizing Neo Nectar's same name strategy.
Alex: In addition, its 2nd effect lets you pay 1 Counter Blast and 1 Soul Blast to choose a unit, and then all of your units with that name gains 15000 power and 1 critical!
Rina: It's an incredibly devastating effect, especially if you have all four copies of that unit on your board.
Alex: Yeah, you can get some really powerful units and an entire front row of 2 critical units.
