OVA 2
A Kyoto Caper
One fine day, the D-Team joined Spike at an excavation site in Fukui to observe the many different fossils found in the area from footprints to skeletal remains they were currently looking over in a tent, "Thanks for bringing us to Fukui with you on this dig, Dr. Taylor." Zoe said gratefully to Max's palaeontologist father.
"There've been a lot of Fukuisaurus excavated from here. Haven't there?" Rex asked as they eyed several of the bones uncovered so far from the area, admiring what their team found so far.
"Yes, but just fragments." Spike answered as he looked at the specimen of a Fukuisaurus on the table in front of them. "We've never found a specimen as complete as this one is."
"It looks like a cute dinosaur!" Zoe commented as she pictured how it would appear based on the skeleton they uncovered so far.
"I read that it was an herbivore and a fast runner." Max recalled, "But what else do we know?"
Cera folded her arms and began thinking, "Being small no doubt its preferred habitat and diet would be low lying shrubs in open plains." She deduced, "Plus it shared the area with fukuiraptor, the main carnivore in the japanese region so likely it was its' natural predator." Being a fast runner itself no doubt fukuisaurus had to fast too in order to stand a chance.
"Err well, we should be able to get more details from Dr. Owen once we get the fossils to him in Kyoto." Spike answered rather unsure himself but also impressed at Cera's ideas….almost as though she sounded like she saw an actual one in the flesh.
This confused the D-Team, "But why're you and Dad going all the way to Kyoto?" Rex asked. "Just stay here."
"Oh, right." Spike quickly answered, showing his nervousness and already hinting he was hiding something. "That's just because, uh.. Kyoto University has better facilities, that's it, and... yeah!" He responded before pulling out his phone. "Now, Dr. Owen should arrive there soon! So let's go, kids, Kyoto, here we come!" With that, Spike quickly got onto his feet and went into the car.
"Okay... I don't know what, but Dad's obviously hiding something." Max narrowing his eyes with suspicion .
"Oh, well, we get a trip to Kyoto!" Zoe reminded them, looking in the bright side. It was at that moment a crane loaded a batch of fossils onto a pickup truck, no one realising an egg capsule was amongst them.
Cera then went to a nearby computer on the desk, noticing something shinning amongst the fossils. She and Miku assumed it an ordinary eg fossil before going to type on the computer, "If we're going to Kyoto we might as well see what attractions they have there." She brought it up on screen and began to search up a few must visit destinations such as Golden Pavillion, a shiny local landmark in the middle of a pristine lake, followed by the Kabuki dance theater. "Hang on…." She then stopped at that and zoomed in on some of the geisha dancing on screen most elegantly and with grace. She then sweatdropped and squinted her eyes as she deduced the real reason Spike wanted to go to Kyoto, "Hey guys….you don't think-"
They all sighed and grimaced seeing it all too clear, "Yup…."
"Of course…."
"Should have known…." They muttered knowing they would be in for a long day.
(Later)
After a little while of driving on the road the gang arrived at the university, seeing it to be so huge Cera admired it and wondered what other fossils or marvels of science were within its' alls.
Stepping out of the car they noticed 2 familiar faces stepping out from said building.
"Here we are, Patrick, Kyoto!" Dr. Owen beamed as he looked around with a childish grin on his face as he tried to look for what he came here for, as Patrick sighed.
"Uh, shouldn't we get to the excavation site?" he asked, starting to lose patience with his boss' childish behaviour for the umpteenth time.
"Owen, you old goat!" Spike then called out to him, as Dr. Owen immediately recognised the voice and looked to see Spike with the D-Team approach him.
"They let you in?!" He jokingly gasped.
"Dug up anything new?!" Spike cheered before they both answered together.
"Only this. funny bone! Yeah!" They cheered together like true bros and began to do their cringy dance routine, with a new twist to it. "Eeeny, meeny, miney, moe, catch a dino by the toe! Take his fossils home for a show! And then you put him in a fossil show! D-I-N-O, spells dino! Spells dino, yeah!" They sang and danced all in the middle of public where everyone could see and yet they did not care in the slightest much to the dismay of the children.
Everyone all groaned in embarrassment at the 2 fathers' dance. "This is so embarrassing." Rex sighed wishing he were invisible right now as others stared at them and even whispered. Something everyone else were hoping too, also no matter how many times they danced this little jig they never made it any less cringy.
"How're you doing, Rex?" Dr. Owen then asked as he and Spike leaned over backwards once they finished their song.
"Fine." Rex answered, forcing a smile to be nice even though it hurts him on the inside.
Cera whistled impressed with their flexibility at how well they could bend.
"Well, in that case, Spike, shall we head to that place you told me about?" Dr. Owen asked with a creepy smile.
"Uhh." Spike started to get nervous when he realised the kids and dinos were listening. "Keep that on the down low." He whispered.
Max heard him all too clear and immediately glared at his father. "He wouldn't happen to be talking about the geisha, would he, Dad?" He questioned his father, knowing how lucky he was given mom wasn't around to hear this.
"Yes!" He admitted, "It's true, but it's not for me, son!" Spike quickly replied defensively. "Kyoto's geisha are famous the world over, and I wanted to introduce them to Dr. Owen!" He claimed.
As he explained the reason for his madness, a geisha walked right past them and Owen's eyes glued to her lustfully. "Oh, there's one now!" Dr. Owen exclaimed as he started skipping after her, causing Spike to fall to the ground in the process.
"Hey! Wait for me!" Spike called out as he got back up and ran after him.
Everyone stared in disbelief at what they just witnessed, as Patrick spoke to Rex, "You know how badly Dr. Owen wants to find a mother for you, Rex." he reminded him.
"Why don't you kids do a little sightseeing, while I introduce Dr. Owen to one of Japan's national treasures?" Spike suggested before chuckling nervously, "Haaa! You know!" He laughed before regaining his composure. "Well, I'll see you later!" He said before taking off after Dr. Owen.
"Hold on, wait!" Max called out to his father but his words fell on deaf ears as the dads left the kids behind unattended and alone without an adult accompanying them.
"Hey, wait for me, too!" Patrick called out as he ran after them to keep them in check and from harassing the ladies.
"Come back, my love!" Dr. Owen called to the geisha.
"Dr. Owen, you need me!" Spike told him.
"He needs me, too!" Patrick added as they both followed the love-struck doctor out of sight as everyone looked on.
"Uhh…." They all groaned finding them as hopeless lost causes. Talk about irresponsible and the nerve for them to call themselves adults, while their dinosaurs sang and dance excitedly mimicking the men's wacky movements thinking of it like some fun game.
"Oh, brother." Cera groaned as they left.
"Dad's so lucky mom's not around right now…" Max muttered, "If she were she'd let em have it for sure." He shuddered recalling a time when Aki actually snapped once and despite being all nice and sweet most of the time even she had her moments of rage which he and Rex bore witnessed and never forgot, a memory that frightened them as much as Reese when she had her fits.
"On the bright side at least he's moved on past the old lady." Zoe snickered elbowing Rex playfully to which he sighed not feeling any better.
"I guess…." He groaned though knowing his father he wasn't going to get his hopes up. He also worried about one of the geisha calling the cops on his adoptive dad and Dr Taylor should they continue to harass horn stalk them like that.
It was then Cera took out her camera and snapped a photo of them before they disappeared from sight, as Max looked to her curiously, "What's that for?" He wondered.
"Saving evidence." She replied, "Now you have something to make sure your dad doesn't go cheating on your mom." She giggled to which Max smirked.
"Heh, maybe I can use this to get him to get me that new game I wanted." He grinned as he reached out for the camera only for her to take it away.
"Uh uh uh!" Cera wagged her finger at him, "No crossing the line now." She told him to which he pouted grumpily while Zoe and Rex snickered.
Zoe then looked up and folded her arms on her hips seeing now it was their time for fun and they might as well get started while the day is young, "Well let's go into town and do a little sightseeing."
"Okay!" Max and Rex cheered eagerly as Cera pointed out.
"We better make sure we keep our dinosaurs close together this time, wouldn't want a repeat of what happened before now do we?" She said as they nodded firmly in agreement, as Zoe took out her pet carrying sash to carry Paris while Rex and Max picked up their partner's the old fashioned way as they all headed off, unaware of the pickup truck from earlier arriving at the university with the egg capsule inside.
(Later)
"I can't believe dad brought us all the way to Fukui, then to Kyoto, and then just left us alone." Max muttered unhappily as they walked across a bridge to find something to do.
"Yeah kinda strange…." Zoe stated in agreement.
"He's just as unpredictable as Dr Owen…." Cera added, the 2 of them were like 2 peas in a pod, almost like brothers in a way.
Their boredom soon faded as they heard their Dino Holder's going off! "Huh?"
"A dinosaur's appeared." Max gasped taking out his dinoholder to confirm it.
"We got to get it guys." Rex told them. "Cos if it's a new one, then we need to get it before the Alpha Gang does!"
"Agreed!" Cera nodded firmly, unwilling to let the Alpha gang get another one to experiment on like with Ampelosaurus, Stegosaurus and Saurophaganax.
It was then that Reese called them from the D-Lab. "Hello, kids." She greeted them.
"Hey, Reese, so where did this dinosaur show up?" Max asked her.
"It's in Kyoto, right near you." Zoe's sister answered to their surprise.
"AH!?"
"Wow, what coincidence." Cera whistled at their luck or maybe it was fate in a way…what if it were on the other side off the world or somewhere farther off, "Do you know where it appeared?" Cera then asked.
Reese did a little check to confirm, "It appeared right at the Kyoto University." She answered to their surprise.
"What!?"
"But we were just there!" Rex and Zoe gasped in alarm.
"Think maybe it was among the fossils that were delivered there for study?" Cera pondered as Max whined in exasperation.
"Aw man do we have to go all the way back there!?" He cried stomping his foot on the ground.
"No actually." Reese answered him, "Apparently it's moved further down into town just now, it's quite fast to say the least." It was unsure whether to call that a relief or not, good news it was closer, bad news it would now be amongst many people making risks to public safety even greater!
"AH!" The D Team gasped before nodding at one another firmly they had to act fast.
"Thanks Reese," Zoe thanked her older sister, "We'll let Dr Taylor and Owen know right away!"
"Mhmm good luck you 4." She said as the call ended.
As they headed off into town and stopped nearby a large building, Max and Rex both called on their phones but after a few tries both calls ended up unanswered.
"I can't get a hold of my dad." Rex said as he put his phone away. "He must've turned his phone off."
"Yeah, same here." Max said as he put his phone away as well.
"Uhh…." Zoe whined realising they must have drank themselves drunk on sake or something by now and were out cold no doubt.
Cera let out a sigh and facepalmed, those guys were never around where they needed them, no way they could be called adults.
"Oh well, let's go look for the dinosaur!" Max then stated seeing there was no helping it.
"Like we always do…by ourselves…." Cera grumbled as they headed off further into town hoping to find any clues or traces of it anywhere.
As they went by certain areas, while Max and his pals looked around hoping to find the dinosaur or look for any traces like footprints, Cera happened to notice here and there a few items were missing out of areas here and there like light bulbs from low hanging lights, and a shop owner complaining about having lost a mirror from his stand. She knew this couldn't be a coincidence, perhaps this meant the dinosaur was here…but to have taken so many things and to disappear like a thief in the night undetected this was certainly something.
A little while later, they passed by an alleyway when they heard crying and weeping from it. As they turned to look they saw a geisha was crying deeply. Cera felt some concern and wanted to ask what was up, till Max beat her to it.
"Are you all right?" Max asked curiously as he walked over to her.
"No." She replied and not facing them resuming her sobbing.
"Have you seen a dinosaur by any chance?" he then asked which made Cera narrow her eyes, wondering if he could be any more blunt and insensitive?
"Dinosaur?" The geisha then asked confused as she stopped crying and got back on her feet. "Why would you ask that?" She asked looking to him. While she was distracted, it was the chance a certain thief had been waiting for,. Beforelong a small green and yellow dinosaur snuck up from behind and grabbed her hairpin with his beak. Feeling something missing from her hair, the geisha turned around and gasped with the D-Team when they saw the thief caught in the act. His cover blown the dino backed away quickly, as the geisha fell to the ground in shock as they identified the dinosaur at first sight of it.
"That looked like a Fukuisaurus." Zoe identified.
"Then that's our dinosaur!" Max said seriously as they chased after him with the others. As they chased after it, Cera felt a bit bad about leaving her behind but they had no choice as they followed its, trail.
As they chased after the iguanodont, Shino could only blink in confusion at all she just witnessed. "Why would a dinosaur want my hairpin? What am I seeing?" She wondered as to how such a thing could be possible.
The team ran to the end of the alley and found no sign of the Fukuisaurus as they looked both ways and found no trace of the thief, "Not a trace of it." Rex muttered in disappointment.
"So where'd it go?" Max asked.
"Not sure…" Cera narrowed her eyes, though it concluded that it was indeed fast so catching it would be really tricky and no doubt pointless. Sighing at the cold trail, she then looked back, "Maybe we should go check up oil that girl to make sure she's okay?" She suggested, "Plus we were kinda rude ditching her like that."
"Y…Yeah you're right…." Max sighed realising their insensitivity as they headed back to where they left her. They went back to the geisha and saw her dusting herself off before she noticed them approach her. "How're you feeling?" Max asked her with concern.
Shino chuckled taking no offence, feeling touched they came back for her, "I'm feeling much better now. I'm Shino." She introduced herself.
"Hi, I'm Max, and that's Rex, Zoe and Cera," Max introduced himself and his friends. "And we're gonna get your hairpin back!" He said with determination.
"Oh, that's all right." Shino replied them to their surprise, her mood turning back to depressed.
"What?"
"You mean you don't want it?" They asked in confusion.
"There is no use. The dinosaur must have sensed that I will not need such things anymore." Shino sighed in a disheartened and discouraged tone.
"What'd you mean, Shino?" Zoe asked her.
"My teacher just called me clumsy and told me I do not have what it takes to become a geisha." Shino explained.
"Is that why you were crying?" Zoe asked feeling sympathetic for her.
Shino sniffled before burying her face into her hands and sobbing again. "Oh, what was I thinking, chasing such a crazy dream! I'll never be a geisha!" She cried.
Max quickly rebutted unwilling to leave her like that, "Come on, Shino! Don't let someone else try and take away your dreams!" He urged her. "You've fallen, so you get back up! I'll get that hairpin back for you myself!" He vowed to her surprise.
Shino stopped crying and looked at Max. "R…Really?"
His friends smiled at his sense of justice and courage, "Trust us, when Max says he'll do something, nothing's gonna stop him, not even a t-rex!" Zoe told her, which helped the geisha feel more encouraged and perhaps feeling as though this was a sign that things could turn out for the better.
"Th…Thank you very much." She bowed gratefully to them as they smiled having made a new friend.
Cera admired Max's sense of justice and kindness too and Rex
With that out of the way, "Okay gang, first thing's first we need to find that dinosaur, find it and then we'll find Shino's hairpin!" He then said determinedly pumping up his arm.
His courage and bravado was quite inspirational indeed as the others smiled and felt motivated to help to the best of their abilities too, "So how do we do that?" Rex asked curiously assuming Max had an answer already.
It was then Max's confidence began to lessen as he scratched his head in thought, "Hmm good question…" He muttered making the others sigh seeing as usual he uses his head less than his heart. Without a proper plan they'd be just going in circle.
"Perhaps I can help you." Shino offered getting their attention, "I'll ask around and see if anyone else has lost anything like me, perhaps that can give us some clues."
Thinking about it the D Team welcomed her on board, "Okay, plus there'd be safety in numbers too." said Rex in agreement that way if the dinosaur came back Shino wouldn't be alone and vulnerable again.
As they headed out from the alleyways and into the streets they noticed a pair of geisha passing by who seemed rather unhappy as Cera pointed out, "Look those geisha look kinda troubled." She stated as Zoe looked to Shino.
"Should we ask them what happened?" She asked.
Shino nodded, "Let's give it a try." She walked up to them and began speaking to them in japanese dialogue as the others listened on. After Shino had finished talking with the two other geisha's and bowed at them before they walked away, "This is all so strange." She answered to the D-Team. "The other geisha have lost hairpins, too."
"Why steal a hairpin?" Zoe wondered curiously.
It was then Cera pointed out something else she observed not long ago, "I did notice a few other things missing along the way here." She said as she pointed out to a street light missing its' bulb, "A few mirrors from stores, panes of glass, floor tiles and even light bulbs from some of the low hanging lights."
"Really? Wow….that's pretty observant of you Cera." said Rex impressed, surprised there were clues all along and they didn't realise it. Also not to mention the Fukuisaurus was able to collect so many in a short time, and the fact it was almost unnoticeable in the act made him a most impressive thief.
"You could learn a thing or 2 from her too Max." Zoe cheekily elbowed him making him pout.
"Let's not make this about me okay?" He muttered uncomfortably looking away.
"Any idea if those stolen items have anything in common?" Shino asked the kids being unable to see any connection herself.
Cera gave it some thoughts as she folded her arms and pondered it over carefully, "Well they are all shiny, that's what I've figured out so far…." She said having reached that only conclusion.
"Yeah I guess you're right…." Max blinked his eyes in surprise before scratching his head in thought too, "Wonder why the dinosaur would be so interested in those."
Unable to find any answer themselves they continued their search which took them back over the bridge they crossed earlier but still no trace of it along the river bed, "Max, why don't you try giving your dad a call one more time?" Zoe suggested as they all looked around for the Fukuisaurus and saw no signs of it.
"Okay, let's hope he picks up this time around." He said after dialling on it hoping he'd get an answer from his irresponsible father.
Luckily for them it didn't take long for them to get an answer this time around, "Hey dad!" Max cried out as they all looked to him, "Thank goodness we got you! There's a dinosaur here!" They could hear Spike gasp in surprise at the other end, "Yeah, it's also causing all kinds of trouble like stealing hairpins from the geisha!" As he said that, Max took his ear away from the phone and they could hear all kinds of ranting and rage on the other end, no doubt hearing Owen and Spike fuming furiously over their beloved geisha being endangered or harassed by a dinosaur, a most unforgivable crime!
They all sweat dropped uneasily hearing all sorts of bad words being mentioned at the other end, "Err listen we'll meet you and Dr Owen at the Zen Garden and fill you in there okay?" Max added uneasily not wanting to know what was going on the other end, "Alright see ya." He said as he ended the call there and then. After that he looked to the others, "Well guys let's go and meet them." He said as they nodded seriously in unison.
"About time too…." Cera sighed with relief that they were getting somewhere now. Plus when she gets the chance they were gonna get it from her too.
It was then they decided to head off for the rendezvous point and await the adults before they could plan their next move. Upon arrival inside they looked around finding no trace of anyone else apart from them, "Well we're here and no sign of dad and Dr Owen…." Max muttered seeing or hearing no trace of the men.
"Well all we can do is wait for them…." Cera sighed in annoyance as they all sat down and waited patiently. Hopefully not for too long, clearly those grown men were never around when they were needed, if anything Cera assumed them to be chasing after or comforting any geisha troubled by the dinosaur at this point….
Many minutes passed as the D Team kept waiting, as Cera got bored of waiting she then pondered over as to why the fukuisaurus would resort to thievery? Thinking about it certain birds like crows and magpies liked taking shiny objects time to time….wonder if that was something. Also as she looked at the Zen Garden her mind trailed off a little as the calm serenity of the area and fresh air seemed to spark a sense of familiarity in her…though she couldn't quite put it. Like she knew someone in the past who tended to a zen garden of her own too, and the geisha too seemed to remind her of that memory as well.
It was then a voice interrupted her as she and the D Team turned to see their expected arrivals, "Kids, what kind of dinosaur do we have?" Spike asked as he ran over to them with Patrick and Dr Owen.
"It's a Fukuisaurus." Max answered him.
"We were chasing it, but it got away somehow." Rex added.
"Huh." Spike mused at the report. "So we got that right. Fukuisaurus are fast. Guess what, Dr. Owen." He called out to his friend to share the information about their theory, but saw that he had vanished. "Dr. Owen?"
"I've never seen such beauty." Dr. Owen said as he took Shino's hand and started rubbing his face on it. Cera was put off by his rather indecent act, if she didn't know him she'd call the cops on him by now and part of her was tempted to do so right now.
Ignoring him he focused on Shino then to his son, "So did this girl have her hairpin stolen also, Max?" Spike asked.
"Yeah." Max answered.
"It's not just hairpins, either." Zoe added. "The mirrors on the street corners and all kinds of other shiny things are missing."
"Hey, Dr. Owen!" Spike called out to his love-sick friend. "Do you think the Fukuisaurus could be stealing all this stuff?"
Dr. Owen got back onto his feet and started to get serious, "Well now, birds are thought to have descended from dinosaurs, and some birds do like to collect shiny things to put in their nests." He noted.
"But what good is a hairpin?" Rex asked.
"Well, human beings aren't the only creatures who know how to appreciate beautiful things." Dr. Owen said as he grabbed Shino's hand again. "Are they, Shino?" He complimented her making the geisha giggle in embarrassment but also feeling flattered.
Everyone stared at him being rather smitten with the young girl, a few of them questioning whether they are even in the same age range too.
However seeing Dr Owen act towards Shino that way gave Cera an idea, "So maybe he could be collecting things to attract a potential mate?" She suggested recalling some birds to that.
"Then I guess we'd better hurry and find him before he gets into some serious mischief." Zoe added agreeing with Cera's statement.
"Yes, that's a good point." Spike agreed too.
The whole gang soon headed out of the garden and went to investigate further in town hoping to find any more clues as to where the dinosaur may have gone. The D-Team walked by a small creek in search of the Fukuisaurus, with Owen trotting in a rather jolly manner, no doubt still rather high from the alcohol at the tea house earlier. Cera made sure to keep watching the rear now and then to make sure the dinosaur didn't try to sneak up from behind again like last time.
"Wonder where's a good place to start looking." Rex wondered.
"Or we could maybe set a trap and lure it in with shiny bait?" Cera suggested to which her friends looked to her.
"You know that's not too bad an idea." Zoe agreed as the others nodded, "Wonder what we should use." She thought putting a finger to her chin. Spike was almost about to suggest using Shino's remaining accessories as bait, till strangely that moment they were greeted by a better idea.
They were soon by a sight that disgusted nearly all of them, except Dr. Owen, who gasped in awe and infatuation when he saw who was standing in front of him. "Do my eyes deceive me, or is that my darling Ursula?" Ursula was currently dressed up as a geisha while Zander held an umbrella with the Alpha Gang logo on it above her, looking ashamed with Ed.
"Oh, boy….The old lady." Max sighed in annoyance as the others looked on with equal disgust while Shino and Spike simply stared.
"So much for him moving on from Ursula…." Cera sweatdropped as she shook her head in disapproval at Dr Owen's fickle mindedness and bad taste for women.
"I'm not an old lady, I'm a beautiful geisha!" Ursula yelled at him angrily as Zander and Ed pulled her back not wanting her to star a fight and mess things up.
"My dear Ursula a geisha?" Dr. Owen repeated what he was told as tears of joy came out of his eyes. "Woo-hoo!" He cheered as he ran to hug her to the dismay of the kids.
"Be careful, Doctor! She could bite!" Patrick warned him. Rex just looked away in embarrassment while the others looked on.
"That's great, just what we don't need!" Zoe then said angrily.
"Yeah, and why is she dressed up like that?" Max asked as the Alpha Gang Geisha ran for her life away from the monster she ended up attracting.
"Ursula, my love, come back!" Dr. Owen cried out as he chased after her.
The rest of them stared unable to comprehend what they just witnessed, "I'd call the cops by now but in this case I'd make an acceptation." Cera spoke out to which the others nodded in agreement with her.
"Still we'd better follow him to make sure he doesn't get hurt." Rex suggested as his friends sighed reluctantly.
"Yeah."
"O…kay…" They felt this was a waste of time but there was no helping it as they ran after them.
As Shino blinked her eyes still trying to process the while fiasco like it was some kind of comedy skit, "These things happen time to time Shino, so hope you aren't too put off by it." Spike assured her before running after the children and she followed behind.
The chase took them quite a ways through the streets and up several stairways, yet Ursula and Dr Owen still didn't seem to be losing any energy at all-Run being driven by fear and the other by love, or lust.
"Man they sure are fast…." Max muttered sweating like crazy as they began to tire out and become short of breath.
"Yeah who knew Dr Owen had it in him." Zoe grunted in annoyance feeling rather uncomfortable.
"You've gotta admire his tenacity," Cera admitted for his age he sure was rather spirited before scowling, "Shame it's all for the wrong cause…." She sighed seeing it was all wasted.
It was then they made it to the open square ahead, and widened their eyes upon seeing the fukuisaurus together with Dr Owen and Ursula!
"Ah! There!" Cera pointed out as they hurried quickly towards them!
It was then Dr Owen grabbed an accessory from Ursula's hair and threw it out, the shiny sparkle it gave off distracted the fukuisaurus as he ran off after it to add it to his ever growing collection of shinies!
"Alright! I'll summon Spiny to go after it!" said Zander as he took out his card and slashed! "Alpha slash! Gush out Spinosaurus!" Once he appeared, Spiny started chasing after the Fukuisaurus with Zander following close by, at that movement, the D-Team was finally able to catch up with them.
"After it!" Rex yelled.
"We can't let the Alpha Gang beat us to it!" Max exclaimed running after them.
The chase took them through the town and Spiny continued on pursuing the Fukuisaurus to the top of a building that looked like it was still under construction. Many people cried in terror or moved out of the way from the chase to avoid getting trampled by the dinosaurs. Spiny slammed his tail on the floor and caused the floor to split. The floor cracked right above the Fukuisaurus and he fell into the crack!
"Perfect! We got it now!" Zander smirked as Spiny roared as he got ready for the finishing blow.
Luckily for it, the D-Team arrived in the nick time. "Fukuisaurus is trapped!" Max exclaimed.
"Ace can fix that!" Rex assured him as he summoned him, "Dino Slash! Carnotaurus, Blow him away!" Ace landed in front of Spiny, facing away from him and kicked out at him with his feet as he did a back flip.
"Aah!" Zander screamed in horror from Ace's skills as he ran out of the way as Spiny crashed down almost on him. The Fukuisaurus seized the chance Ace gave it before he lowered himself down the crack and leapt from pole to pole before landing on ground level and running away.
"Wow! I wonder where he's off to now?" Zoe wondered, still surprised by the little dino's agility.
"It must have a nest where he hides things." said Spike as he caught up with them.
"Then Chomp and I will go and try to find it!" Max declared as he ran after it with Chomp with Zoe and Spike following behind.
"Okay! We'll take care of things here!" Rex replied as they left.
"I'll help too." said Cera standing by his side as he smiled feeling more confident now.
"You leave Spiny alone! He's got a job to do!" Zander yelled at them as the spinosaurus got back up and tried to go after the Fukuisaurus again.
"Well we have a job too and that's stopping you from going any further." Cera responded as Ace leapt up, kicked Spiny to the ground, and started repeatedly jumping on him.
"That's the way, Ace!" Rex cheered.
Cera smirked seeing they had Spiny cornered now, but her confidence soon vanished as she heard a creak sound underneath where they fought! "Hmm?" As she looked closely under Spiny she could see the wooden boards were becoming so increasingly strained from the repeated pounding they were slowly cracking and about to give way! She widened her eyes in alarm, "AH! Rex stop! It's gonna break any second!" She warned him.
"Huh?" Rex blinked his eyes in surprise, "What do you-" As he looked closer and saw a huge crack appear under Spiny he soon saw what she meant, "Whoa! We've gotta get off here now!" He gasped in alarm seeing the floor wasn't going to hold any longer! Sensing danger, Ace leapt off Spiny and returned to Cera and Rex, picking them both up on his back as he leapt off the wooden platform and to the ground below!
Zander gritted his teeth and shook out his fists at the fleeing pair, "Hey! Where are you going off to!? Get back here and-"
CREAK!
A loud crack sound under his feet got his attention. Looking down he could see the floor boards giving way and a huge crack appeared under his feet, "Uh oh…." he gulped turning pale, but before he could move the flor gave way and he and Spiny crashed down to the ground below!
"WAAAH!"
CRASH!
Upon their fall they were obscured by a cloud of dust and debris that fell on top of them too! "Urgh…." Zander groaned as he pulled himself out of the rubble, now covered in a few scrapes and bruises. As Spiny got back up and stomped out into the open he and Zander glared daggers at both Rex and Cera, "Tch! You're gonna pay for that!" He hissed furiously as Spiny roared out in fury for such disrespect.
"You can try to collect but you'll come out empty handed!" Rex retorted grabbing a move card, "Go cyclone!" Ace roared as a tornado enveloped him as he screeched and charged out at Spiny who had just gotten his act together again.
Zander gritted his teeth angrily in response, "Oh yeah?! Take this!" He yelled slashing a move of his own, "Shockwave!" The spinosaurus generated a veil of water around him, which made Ace hesitate for a moment as he saw himself running right into the water, his old fears surfacing in his mind as the veil repelled him and sent him crashing to through a few of the support pillars of the building and causing more debris to fall on him!
"Oh no Ace!"
"AH!" Rex and Cera ran to the carno's side seeing him on the ground weakened and dazed.
"Grr…." As Rex tended to his partner, Cera and Miku glared at the incoming Spiny and Zander who seemed to have them cornered now, as Zander grinned sinisterly taking out another move!
"Hehehe…Now to finish you off with tail-"
BEEP! BEEP!
"Hmm?" He blinked his eyes in surprise, just when he was about to have his moment of glory. Taking out the alpha scanner he answered, "Oh hey Ursula, I'm just about to-"
"Zander! Get your butt over to Golden pavilion this instant!" The old lady screamed in his face making him flinch, "The dinosaur's nest is right there!"
"Eep! Right away Ursula!" Zander squealed in a panic as the call ended. He gritted his teeth with frustration that he had them right where he wanted them yet had to abort, "You kids got lucky that I've got more important things to do now!" He hissed shaking out his fist at them before turning to Spiny, "Come on Spiny! Let's beat it!" He grunted before running off with the large carnivore stomping after him in the direction of golden pavilion!
"Hey get back here!" Rex yelled out angrily but they were soon out of earshot, even if they weren't it wasn't like they were going to listen just because they said so.
Cera clicked her tongue realising there was only one explanation, "Tch! Guess they found out where fukuisaurus is now…." That definitely was not good at all. Luckily they weren't going to lose the lead for long.
RING! RING!
Hearing their communicator ringing, Rex brought it up and answered the call, "Hey Max, what's up?"
"Cera! Rex!" Max's voice urgently shouted at the other end, "We think fukuisaurus' nest may be at Golden Pavilion!"
Cera widened her eyes, "AH! Of course!" It was the shiniest place of all in the area, if only she had realised that sooner they wouldn't have wasted so much time wandering in circles!
"Alright great work, we're on our way now!" Rex responded as he cut the call then. After that he looked at Ace, who groaned rather weakly as he began to open his eyes again. "Ace! Can you get up?" Rex asked him with concern to which the carnotaurus' breathing stabilised as he kicked himself up and roared having recovering his strength to the relief of his friends. "Atta boy Ace." Rex cheered as he helped the 2 of them onto his back again, "Alright let's go!" Rex punched forward as Ace charged as fast as he could towards the rendezvous point.
After that they hurried as fast as they could following the map on the way to the lake where the Pavilion was, they soon caught sight of the gang on the other side of the water ways, "There they are!" Rex pointed out as they got off Ace and headed to rejoin them.
Hearing a noise at the middle of the lake, Cera widened her eyes seeing Spiny was pushing and shoving at the great golden building! "Hey watch it! That's a priceless treasure!" Cera cried out in alarm that the Alpha Gang had the audacity to do something so horrible. How they had no respect for culture and other people, it just boiled her up inside just thinking about it.
"Max needs help!" Rex said as he, Cera and Ace arrived and regrouped with the rest of the team, having learnt Max went inside to get Shino's hairpin. "Ace, go!" He commanded his dinosaur, but as Ace was about to leap in and help, but stopped when he realised that the only way to get there in time was by crossing the lake.
Seeing him hesitate, "Ace, I thought we got you over your fear of water!" Rex yelled at him in frustration, worried this will cost them another card like with styracosaurs one time and thought he got over it with baryonyx.
"Hmmm…." Cera realised she may have to look into this a little further…but her thoughts were interrupted.
"Tear it down if you have to Spiny!" Zander ordered him, seeing that shoving it was getting them nowhere.
His words greatly angered Cera and she was about to go in herself, only to be shocked seeing Max was in there as well! "AH! Max! Get out of there!" She called out at him as Spiny about to knock the building down on top of him!
Luckily before he was to do so, Fukuisaurus spun right into him and caused the spinosaurus to be knocked backwards to the ground while he flipped back, similar to what Ace did earlier. This gave max and Chomp the chance to get away as the green dinosaur defending his home. With his opponent down, the Fukuisaurus wasted no time in charging up an Emerald Garden and firing it at the downed Spinosaurus. The attack landed a direct hit, and the Fukuisaurus got back some much needed energy as Spiny groaned weakly and collapsed as he returned to his card.
"Not again!" Zander exclaimed in defeat as his friends came in.
"Zander!" Ursula yelled as Ed pulled up behind him. "Can't you do anything right?!" She scolded him making him flinch.
Meanwhile on the other side of the bridge Cera and the rest of the gang could rest at ease with the danger past them now, "Well that takes care of them for the moment." Cera noted with relief before putting a finger to her chin in thought, "That attack though….why does it seem familiar?" Not only was it strong but it also stole the enemy's energy and restored the user's, along with a graceful way of moving too it was as though she had seen that somewhere before….but where….
With Spiny out of the way, Max was able to return to the rest of the group without any trouble. "Shino, look, I found your hairpin." he said as he handed the geisha her stolen hairpin.
Shino smiled as she accepted her hairpin before noticing someone behind Max, gasping when she saw who it was, confusing Mhimax. "Ah!"
"Huh?" Turning around, he came face to face with the Fukuisaurus apparently back to reclaim what he stole, "Agh! Back off! That pin belongs to Shino!" He warned him not to get any closer.
"It's all right." Shino assured him as she walked up to the dinosaur.
"Huh?" Max was confused by her actions as the others looked on.
"I'd like him to have it." Shino said as she handed the pin to the Fukuisaurus, who took it in his mouth as it shone in the light of the sun. "Oh, yes, it suits you." She giggled. The others had too admit it didn't look too bad on him….shame they had to take back everything else he stole though.
"Are you sure?" Max asked her, feeling a little let down after all the hard work they put into getting it back.
"Yes, I am." Shino replied grateful and touched. "Thank you, Max." But the mood changed when they all felt the ground shake. "Oh!"
Turning around, the Fukuisaurus saw Terry appear, his head sticking out of the trees and roaring out furiously.
"Oh no! Not now!" Cera gasped in alarm, also angry that he had to come in and ruin the moment!
"We're here for the card!" Rod said as he and Laura stopped their scooters. "Volcano burst!" As Terry charged his attack, the Fukuisaurus tossed the hairpin to Shino and charged his own attack. Unfortunately, it was too late as Terry fired his Move at the Fukuisaurus before he could activate Emerald Garden completely as he was enveloped in flames forcing him to revert. When the blinding light died down, beautiful charred embers and green colored leaves fell to the ground along with the Fukuisaurus' cards. The card landed at Shino's feet and she picked it up. "It saved my life, and it didn't even know me." Shino whispered to herself as she looked at the card.
Cera felt touched by the dinosaur's gesture of kindness, but it was soon short lived.
"Hand over that card if you know what's good for ya!" Rod threatened as Terry snarled viciously at her.
Shino started to panic as she backed away from the advancing t-rex. "Nice try!" Rex said as he, Cera and Max leapt in front of Shino to protect her.
"But you're not getting it!" Cera added angrily.
"This card's ours!" Max added before recalling Chomp and Cera called back Miku.
"Dino Slash!"
"Go, Triceratops! Roar!"
"Microraptor! Shine!"
After the others were called forth, Ace charged in with Chomp and Miku following behind! First he rammed Terry to slow down his advance before somersaulting and kicking out at him, stunning him momentarily!
"Power siphon!" Miku then swooped at Terry's face draining as much anergy as she could, making him roar in pain and annoyance as he shook her off but was now off balance and dazed!
It was just the opening Max waited for, "Thunder bazooka!" Chomp roared as he charged forth and thrusted forward like a lightning torpedo, Chomp started spinning towards his opponent before he made contact with Terry. The force of the attack sent the t-rex flying back far away before crashing into a cliff face further off as fire erupted into a beautiful symbol as he returned to card form farther in the distance.
"Uh, let's go!" Laura quickly said, surprised how fast the battle ended and seeing there was no way they could win now.
"Y-yeah!" Rod agreed as they quickly flew to get Terry back.
"You'll pay for this, you horrid half-pints!" Ursula yelled at them as the rickshaw briefly stopped in front of them before she and the 2 bozos rejoined Rod and Laura in their retreat.
"Finally they're gone…." Cera sighed with relief and now they could finally rest at ease.
"I don't quite understand." Shino broke the silence. "The dinosaur gave me back my hairpin."
"So maybe it's a sign that you should keep on working toward your dream." Max suggested to her. "What'd you think?"
Shino was quiet for a bit as she processed Max's words, both from now and before. "You know, Max, I think you're right!" She then held her head up high with determination, unwilling to let her dreams end here after all the effort she invested into getting this far. And after all the effort her new friends had put in to help get her hairpin back, she felt more assured that this was indeed a sign to keep trying no matter how many times she fell.
Max liked the look on her face as he grinned at her, "And we'll be there to root for you all the way!" He cheered punching up to the sky.
"We want to see you dance with all your heart!" Zoe smiled clapping her hands together lovingly.
"I'm sure it's what the fukuisaurus would have wanted too." Rex nodded in agreement as everyone else looked upon Shino looking forward to her dance themselves and were prepared to support her the best they could.
"Everyone…" Shino breathed in amazement to see everyone being there for her, despite having just met today and how far they would go for her. No way could she bring herself to say no, as she nodded firmly with determination and feeling her spirit revitalised, "Alright, I'll give it my very best." She nodded as everyone cheered and clapped looking forward to her performance later, and even if she messed up they'd be there for her till she succeeded.
Cera had to admire everyone's companionship and loyalty for those in need, something she would never forget. It was then as she looked ahead to Golden Pavilion did she remember the rest of the stolen belongings inside, "Before we forget, we'd better inform the authorities all the stolen valuables are here." She pointed out.
"Oh yes good point." Spike replied as he took up his phone and quickly called the police, now everyone else would be happy to get their missing belongings back and they could all go home happy….except the alpha gang of course.
(Later that evening)
At the practice hall, Shino performed her dance once more before her instructor, after having been given another chance thanks to her new friends backing her up. She performed her same moves as before as she was getting to the part where she tripped last time. She carefully timed her steps and was able to pull off the last bit flawlessly, after remembering how calm the fukuisaurus was in his movements. Having completed her moves without fault, her instructor clapped at the results, this time with joy. "Shino, you've done it! You finally demonstrate the grace and elegance of a true geisha!" She congratulated her.
"I owe it all to Max." Shino said, looking at her audience and focusing on the boy who motivated her most of all.
"Oh." Max chuckled at the embarrassment, blushing red and making Zoe get a little jealous.
Chomp barked out loudly as Spike turned to his son, "Chomp says you really owe it to fukuisaurus."
"That's probably true." Zoe commented, slightly less annoyed this time.
"Hmph!" Max huffed in embarrassment, still thinking he deserved most of the credit before shrugging it off, "Well, all that matters is that you're following your dream." He said.
"Yes, thank you." Shino smiled, getting her own blush.
It was Dr. Owen quickly appeared in front of her and took her hands. "And you'll become a geisha one day!" He praised surprising her all a sudden.
"Sigh he really is fickle isn't he?" Cera shook her head in dismay seeing he hadn't changed at all.
"You better hope my dad doesn't ask you to marry him." Rex warned her in embarrassment.
"And if he does, just say no." Patrick added sarcastically. With that joke, everyone started laughing, including Dr. Owen and Shino as the gang enjoyed the rest of their night in Kyoto.
