Gon and Killua walked down the hall of the 200th floor of Heaven's Arena, just coming back from practicing with Zushi and Wing. Who would have known coming here would teach them about nen, a rather necessary skill for Hunters.
"Well, well. You two are coming along quite nicely, aren't you?"
The two boys stiffen, turning to face the man they'd been trying to avoid since getting to this floor. "Hisoka."
The magician grins, amused by the two little Hunters before him. How wonderful they would be once they'd grown.
Killua scowls up at him stepping slightly in front of Gon. "What do you want?"
Hisoka shrugs, mostly here to annoy them. But he doesn't get to tell them that.
"Hisoka! Come on, you said we could…" Ryn reaches their small group, and the man wraps an arm around her waist, pulling her to his side. She seems shocked to see the boys; clearly Hisoka hadn't told her they were here.
"Gon? Killua? What are you two…"
Gon flies past Killua, excited to see an old friend. "Ryn!" He throws his arms around her, hugging her tight.
Ryn grimaces, not as friendly with the boys as Adella had been. She glances at Hisoka, asking for help, but he just smirks, enjoying her discomfort.
Scowling at him, she reaches down to pat at Gon's head. "Hey kid."
He pulls away, beaming. "It's so good to see you! Where's Adella?"
And there it was. It was clear Adella was the favorite, adopted soccer mom she was. Still, Ryn felt slightly snubbed. She wasn't that bad, was she? "Back in Yorknew. She had to get to work."
Killua places his hands around the back of his head. "Work where?" He'd been dying to figure out what was wrong with that woman since he'd met her. Granted he did like her immensely. She was kind to him and Gon, and to be honest, something told him Alluka would love her.
Shaking his head, Killua scowls. He needed to focus.
Ryn chuckles. "For the Hunter Association. Adella already works for them in their lab making poisons. She's a little genius. Has been forever."
Hisoka raises a brow. "You forget; you have a degree too dear."
Ryn rolls her eyes. "Yes, but Adella decided to get her PhD like a sociopath."
"Wait." Killua interrupts. "She works for them? Already? Then why…"
"It's Adella." Ryn states simply. "You've met her. Why does she do anything?"
Killua sighs. "Because she has morals? Because she feels the need to prove herself? Because she's a baka?"
Gon interjects, defending his friend. "Hey!"
"Basically." Ryn grins, ignoring Gon. "I mean, look at her love life. I can't believe after he put a pin in her head, she forgave Illu."
Killua freezes, arms dropping. Illu? Pin? No. No, no, no.
She couldn't.
She wouldn't.
"Wh… What?"
Hisoka smirks, far too pleased by Killua's disbelief. "Oh, that's right. You don't know."
"Know what?" Gon asks, aware something has gone terribly wrong. Killua looks ready to faint.
"Our little Del is going to be Killua's sister-in-law, sooner or later at least." Hisoka chuckles, watching the little Zoldyck crumble. Oh, how he wished he could get Illumi to do that.
"No. No way. She wouldn't… Not him." Killua argues, unwilling to believe what he's hearing.
Ryn punches Hisoka's side. "Now look what you've done." Turning to Killua, she confirms his fears. "Yeah, Illumi and Adella are seeing each other, pretty seriously might I add. Though to be fair, I think she's more in charge than she realizes."
Killua stumbles away from them. "Baka! Baka, baka, baka! How stupid is she!" He turns, continuing to yell as he storms off. Gon follows, also surprised Adella has taken up with Gittarackur, but more concerned about Killua's reaction.
Hisoka watches them leave, licking his lips.
"Adella would kill you if you tried. Not to mention Illumi." Ryn warns, knowing exactly what Hisoka is thinking. "You can't fight the kids."
Hisoka pouts, turning to her. She's right, of course, and to be fair, as much as fighting does excite him, it only goes so far.
Except with Ryn and Chrollo, of course.
"Dearest, it would be such fun." He argues, deciding a little begging wouldn't go amiss. He wouldn't let Ryn fight him due to his past losses, and he did so want to challenge Chrollo again. The begging could appease her.
"No." Ryn insists, knowing what he's doing. "At least wait until they're legally adults. You know the rules."
"I thought that only applied to our future…"
"Nope. Includes Adella's too, and they're practically adopted. No fighting till legal." Ryn wags a finger, turning to head back to their shared room.
Hisoka grins, strolling behind her. "Very well. I suppose I can settle for you and Chrollo until they're old enough."
Ryn turns quickly, exasperated and outraged. "Settle?"
And thus Killua found out that he was getting a new sister.
