I received your feedback yesterday, one hour after I posted Chapter 5. I appreciate all of your comments and recommendations.
Chapter 6
Lying on his bed, tired, exhausted and lonely., Sheldon didn't even know how long he had been there, maybe a week or two. Everyday, the scene of Amy explaining to him that she was in a relationship, happy and content with none other than his best friend, kept repeating in his mind. For now, his eidetic memory is a curse.
"Sheldon, I want you to keep an open mind about what I'm about to tell you." She said this while folding her blankets and setting aside her pillows. "Come here, let's talk."
He obliged with the request. He was not good at reading facial expressions, but just by looking in her eyes, he knew. She will mercilessly rip his heart in front of him.
"Before, we've been good friends. We have the same likes and dislikes. We communicate on a daily basis. I like you the way you are. You are my first friend and I treasure you for that. " She went to the kitchen, getting the last two cans of yoo-hoo that had been in her fridge for quite some time. "First, you terminate our relationship, just because of some physics/neuroscience debate in Cal-tech."
"I was there, Amy, no need to caption the obvious." He smirked and opened a can of the best chocolate drink.
"Uh-huh. I put an addendum to our friendship agreement so these circumstances will never happen again, but for the second time, you throw me out of your life without giving it a second thought."
"I said I'm sorry. Remember? In your laboratory. I hugged you, I told you that I miss you. "
"Yes. But that doesn't change the reality, Sheldon. I'm with someone now. He doesn't say he loves me yet, but he's showing it every day. He paid attention to every small detail about me. He doesn't manipulate me. And sometimes, I'm rethinking the notion of love. " He saw a different Amy, way different than the one he met last May. "I didn't know what real love was before. What I do know is that the neurotransmitter acting up describes the symptoms of love. He's a good man, Sheldon, and I wouldn't want to hurt him just because you changed your mind."
"But he's not like us. We are different. " He tried to hold her hands, but Amy moved farther away to keep their distance. "We are homo novus, a more evolved species. We're meant to be together. We are the only people included in that category."
"Admit it, Sheldon. You just want to be with me now because someone owns me and you don't want anyone playing with your toys. " He could see her face reddened with anger.
"No. No. I told you I love you. You heard it. " He made a fist to control himself.
"You love me just like your werewolf figurine, the man with the black suit and ears, and those picture books you're always reading."
He reevaluated his emotions; he doesn't know what to tell her and he cannot confirm or deny the charges. To him, Amy was the only person he wanted, but was she equivalent to his comic books and action figures?
"I'm sorry, Dr. Cooper. To quote Einstein, I can't do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result. Twice is enough." There it is in front of his eyes, his heart torn into a million pieces, like confetti scattering down on the carpet from her hands.
"Now, I will tell you who he is but you have to promise me that you'll do nothing harmful about it. You will accept our status and move on." She lowered the space between them. "Sheldon, I want you to be happy for me because I am happy." Amy showed him a picture of her and Leonard at a wedding party. She was dressed in a pink glossy dress with a boutonniere on her wrist, and Leonard was wearing a black suit and bow tie. They were dancing, laughing, and sharing a piece of cake.
Crying again and again, like a child having a tantrum. He felt betrayed. Why does it have to be his best friend?
"Why hast thou forsaken me, O deity whose existence I doubt?"
Leonard's goal is to play paintball with Sheldon. If he wins, Sheldon will drop the subject of him and Amy being together for a bit. If Sheldon wins, Leonard will speak with Amy about the theoretical physicist's feelings. He was pleased Amy had preserved him for this occasion.
Leonard and Rajesh switched residences until Sheldon's situation improved. Everything Sheldon required was communicated to the astrophysicist by the experimental physicist. Rajesh, he felt, was quite nice to him.
He contacted Rajesh twice a day to inquire about Sheldon's status. He is genuinely troubled about what is going on with his closest friend. He wants to be in 4A for himself, yet he's the source of Sheldon's distress.
His phone rang.
Rajesh: Leonard, you have to come here as soon as possible, Sheldon's having a breakdown.
Leonard: Call my mother now. I'll be there in 20 minutes.
He dropped the call and drove to 2311 Los Robles.
Rajesh watched Sheldon talking to Beverly. He heard every word of their conversation. For the first time, he saw Sheldon cry for another person.
"Sheldon, inhale in the paper bag. Count with me. " Dr. Hofstadter said. "I want you to be aware of your breathing."
Sheldon followed her orders, but the tears remained flowing down his eyes. Rajesh found the moment devastating, his friend dying slowly because of a girl that doesn't love him back and his other friend happy and cherished by the same girl.
He cannot point fingers at who's fault and why this condition happened.
Leonard parked outside his former building. He took a deep breath as he entered the room for the first time since Amy disclosed the truth to Sheldon.
That night, his girlfriend drove Sheldon to 4A and informed him of what happened in her apartment. Sheldon almost touched his face with a hard fist when Amy intervened and yelled at him. Only Amy could control the tall Texan. Sheldon ceased his action and said sorry to her. The power the neuroscientist had over the lanky theoretical physicist.
He stepped inside, and Sheldon glanced at him, trying to keep himself together. The man is suffering enough, but what can he do? Amy chooses him.
He brought some goods for Sheldon after asking Rajesh about current events.
"He was throwing all his comic books outside his room before I called you."
Walking in the hallway, Leonard picked up all the picture booklets. Thankfully, Spock's action figure was not broken. He thought that going there was not a good idea, but he had to face him at some point. He knew how precious these things were to Sheldon; he held them with cotton gloves, covered them with special plastic, and sometimes framed those limited ones.
"He hasn't eaten or drink anything. I don't know where he is getting his tears. "
After talking to Beverly, Sheldon went back to his room where Rajesh served him his lunch, grilled cheese and orange juice. He didn't have an appetite, but he tried to eat anyway, throwing away the food because it was bland and dry. He sat on his side, hugging his pillow.
In another universe, the Sheldon , who agrees to meet Amy's mother, could be having the time of his life right now. He had his own Amy, who was his intellectual equal. Maybe he's kissing her on the train with her brownie-flavored lips, or she'd wear a Nurse Chapel Costume just because he asked; or he kissed her rosy lips to wake her up because she cosplayed Snow White, or they're living together, or he already proposed to her hand without thinking about The Flash; or he'll give her a shiny trinket because she's a princess. She's his princess.
The other Sheldon may have married Amy now, captivated by her beauty and intellect, and they may already have their benign super overlords or are wearing the Nobel Prize medal they won for a theory they devised. The future he doesn't have now.
He cried repeatedly, thinking about all the possibilities.
Making sure Sheldon was asleep, Leonard went inside to pick up the lanky physicist's leftover dirty dishes. He found the remaining food and the plates on the floor.
"Leonard." He heard Sheldon whisper.
"Buddy." It was all he could say.
"Never ever hurt her." Sheldon continued.
"Never." He waved his head.
"Never ever made her cry."
"I promise."
"Will you let me talk to her?"
"Yes, of course, you were friends way before we became a thing."
"But we are barely friends now." Sheldon cried even more.
"I will talk to her." He will do anything for his friend, except break up with Amy. He can't endure seeing Sheldon depressed, but if he lets Amy go, he will never find another like her. He called his girlfriend to drop by and talk to Sheldon.
Amy had brought Sheldon's favorite brownies, which she had made herself. Leonard informed her about current events and asked her to talk to Sheldon.
She prepared two cups of tea, their usual flavors: chamomile and lemon zinger. She brought the tray with brownies and cups to Sheldon's room. Leonard stayed leaning on the open door.
Sheldon, not even seeing her, sat up.
"Amy, you smelled like chocolate"
"You need to eat, Sheldon. They said you haven't eaten anything."
"Are these your home-baked brownies? Goody goody. " He picked up one and ate the whole piece. "I want to tell you that I gave Leonard my blessing to date you last October. This mutiny isn't your fault. It's mine. I hope you will forgive my actions. "
Amy remained silent and took a sip from her cup.
"I want us to be friends again." He said, with a very low voice.
"Sure." She smiled at him.
"Will you sign a friendship agreement for the third time?" Will we still have the relationship of the mind?"
Before answering , Amy looked at Leonard, waiting for his approval. He nodded with a smile and two thumbs up.
"Affirmative."
This fanfiction is based on S4E5 of The Desperation Emanation. Amy and Sheldon were still friends at the time. I wrote this after witnessing how easily Sheldon let Amy go. How easy for Sheldon to forget what happened after the Zazzles substitution.
I absolutely love Sheldon, but this chapter is dedicated to all the times he has hurt our innocent Amy. For all the times he ignored her, the times he forgot about her, the scene in which he left for a train expedition without saying goodbye to her, the time he chose to play Star Wars instead of commit to her request, the dining table incident on S7, the time he wished for her death just because she wanted to help his closure issue, the moment he wanted to find someone else at the ice cream shop, just because Amy wanted to share a toothbrush holder, and finally, the moment he did not take her back after their Aquarium Thanksgiving.
We'll go back to Lamy, as you call it. I promise.
