Harry never knew how much of a weight having to hide himself was, not to say he's been blatant with his magic since his…discussion with the king, and he's not naive enough to think his little show with stop the man, but it should give him enough time to prepare for when the man pulls his cards.
He had stayed low for the first week not wanting to draw attention towards his wards, but when he happened to look in the sky, while tracking his way towards the three he saw beyond the wall, an air balloon caught his eye. He didn't think this place had such technology. His curiosity got a hold of him, mailing him forget about the three he was tracking.
What Harry doesn't know is at the same time those same three were investigating a certain King.
He has a bad feeling about this just as he is about to start towards them the cold hand of death stops him.
"master, you can't save them"
Harry scowls spinning out of the hold, but before he can ask he hears the talesign something going wrong, he turns and watches as the balloon is pelted with bullets, so much that the stability of it crumbles.
With a sense of self hate he stands there knowing he can't stop death when it's their time, know matter how much he wishes.
He closes his eyes as the balloon lands and the scream of a woman is silenced.
Forcing them open he witnessed the military police, no interior squad inspect them and take the bodies away, while clearing the evidence. His breath catches as the face of Armin flashes as the male body is tossed onto the cart.
Turning back on the being his magic pulsing as death reigns in his master's temper.
"Stop it! Stop controlling my emotions! I'm tired of it. I let it in long enough, but this. Those were Armin's Parents weren't they?"
"Does it matter?"
"Does it-!"
"This is why I will not stop….Tell me, master?" The being speaks sternly, making Harry gulp.
"Why is it only after you found out they are connected to your precious Armin did you get so angry?" The being asks before dissipating.
Leaving a stunned and chastised Harry. He shouldn't have taken his anger out on Death, he knows he can't stop what's supposed to happen, it's just, how is he supposed to look Armin in the eyes while knowing the whole time his parents could have been with him, but choose what he doesn't know.
Apparating to wear the men went, perks of being master of death is being able to apparate anywhere as death is everywhere.
'…Sorry' Harry thinks to death, he's awkward when it comes to apologizing.
The reassuring response soothes his worry.
Appearing before the two bodies, after making sure they were alone, wincing at the injuries upon their body he waits while twisting his ring on his finger.
As their shades appear he lets a scowl appear not having any sympathy for parents who abandoned their children.
As the two give him startled but intelligent looks he can tell this conversation won't be how he thought.
——
As he appears before his cottage with his youngions, he can't help but marvel at the information those two had, while he knew there was a whole world out there, to know the Eldians have been suppressed, and maintained to be ignorant, beside the select few who are immune.
They certainly filled in the gaps on the missing information, he wonders why he never thought to use the ring before?
While he is upset about them ditching Armin he can understand their reasons. They were going to go to the outside world and find a way to free the Eldians of the oppression that has been plaguing them all.
To find out that the very girl he has under his roof is one of those who are immune, sadly they didn't have much other than that the Ackerman's were special.
Stepping in he thinks it's about time he and the three have some truths, particularly the rumors of Eren and Mikasa's killings.
He smiles as he sees the three having an argument, catching the end of it.
"-so I can protect my precious people" Eren states passionately.
Clapping his hands watching as they start before relaxing as they see him.
"Always so protective, my titan maniac" he says just to watch the flush rise on the boys' preteen's face.
"Harry!" The whine doesn't go with the hug but he'll take it.
"I was only gone a day" he doesn't stay away long with his advantage of popping anywhere he needs to, though he grins when the other two join in before growing serious, insert giggle.
"Alright, I think it's time we had some serious discussions."
"You mean like how you keep disappearing at odd hours only to miraculously come back with food that could only be from Shina?" Armin states before 'eeping when he realizes what he said.
Harry is not really surprised, but kinda is he didn't think they'd pay attention to the irregularities, with them being preoccupied with their own things they did, while he's on his…missions.
'I now know where you get that scary brain of yours.' Harry thinks with a sweat drop.
"Yes…that, but I first want to talk to you mikasa. It may sound insensitive but can you tell me about your abduction?" The room grows silent, while Eren's face pulls into a scowl.
"Why would you bring that up?!" Eren spits out.
Giving the furious preteen a glance he turns back to Mikasa, "Mikasa, I swear I'm not just putting you through this for nothing, you of all people should know I would never bring up your parents death unless I had a reason." He pauses
"I don't need to know about how your parents died, sweetie" he soothes absently encasing her in his aura, "I found out some interesting information and I need to make sure it true, for my sanity, and to make sure you don't be caught unawares."
Mikasa looks into the man's eyes, her face hot with emotions as she relives the night.
"You know, if you trust me I could look into your memories, so you don't have to talk about it" deciding to reveal himself knowing they'll be leaving for training, they think he does know or hear their whispered words.
Despite the strange request she nods not wanting to talk, giving Eren a reassuring look when he was about to intervene.
She is instructed to meet his eyes and then feels a gentle sensation caress her mind as their eyes meet, it's only for a second then it's over and the man's face is full of grief but understanding, which confuses the little Asian.
He can't believe what he saw, his two kiddos brutally killing in self defense, it reminds him of the incident with quirrelmort, though much more traumatizing for her. He can't help but admire Eren for risking himself for Mikasa, and they didn't have the connection they did now. His heart hurts, knowing the reason behind the frequent visits to the Ackerman residence was because this little girl had a sibling on the way.
He only hopes she doesn't know, she lost a sibling as well as her parents, they say ignorance is bliss.
"You're so brave" speaking to all three, but addressing the two who fought for each other specifically.
"Before I explained why I wanted to know about that, I think it's only fitting that I tell you a story about a little boy who…"
——
"They got recruited!?"
"Blackmailed more like it, but yeah the blonde made a whole spectacle of it, his lackey even slammed Levi's face into the mud" Harry winces knowing how clean the man likes to be.
"So they're up on the surface, hmm…"
"…sorry for the short visit Mya, thanks for the update, tell the girls they'll have their stuff at the end of the week" he finishes before leaving the matron of the new self owned brothel.
If the girls are willing to continue their work then he can only ensure they stay healthy and protected, while getting their earnings. He wonders what Hermione would think if she saw he was essentially a pimp, but he knows that it's hard for a woman down here to gain another type of occupation.
"No, no, you're so kind, just the fact that you've stopped by means so much, especially to the young ones they always light up when you do that beautiful animal spell thing." Chucking at the words of the woman before waving goodbye.
He's only really displayed his magic to the girls, and his wards… and the king.
The girls because he didn't have the heart to erase their already traumatized minds.he's not skilled enough to not fuck up, if he can be crude.
His wards are an obvious reason, he can't protect them if they don't know his full capacity, why would he go all out, when he trusts someone he goes all in.
Sure it's burned him before, but he likes to think he's not as naïve to fall for acts anymore.
Besides, he didn't tell them everything, just enough to allow him to place tracking charms and various other protective spells and runes.
He was still surprised how well they accepted him; the heartfelt words of Eren almost choked him up.
"I don't care!, you're our My-our brother! you took us in when no one would look twice at us. you've fed us, and showed me what true strength is…I'm gonna join the scouts, so I can show you I can be the one who protects you instead. Even if I have to kill every titan in my path!"…Well the last part wasn't so sentimental, but still full of the same ferocity.
He just hopes nothing bad has happened to his only friends in this place, his chibis not counting.
——-
Harry stands on the tree having been watching where the scouts had raced out of the gate. It being the first exposition since the fall of Maria has commenced.
An exposition that his friends have just been sent out on.
'In this storm?' He has a foreboding feeling that the time as a seeker getting bombarded with dementors comes to mind.
He hasn't spoken to them not wanting to break their cover, he wonders what game the commander is playing with his friends, but isn't sure how to help.
He hasn't felt this feeling since… Sirius fell through the veil if he's to be honest. Not the pain of his death, supposed death, but the feeling that something isn't right, the last time he didn't listen to his gut his godfather ended up in this hell.
With that he brandished his broom, mounting it before taking off cursing his stupidity for not putting a tracker on at least one of them.
He spells the rain to drift away from his face so his vision isn't impaired by the velocity of his movements.
He scowls at the stupidity of this, to go on an exposition in this weather? For what purpose?
Harry sometimes forgets not everyone can pull out a charm to find out the weather nor do they have muggle technology of his time.
Helping the poor souls who cross his path by confounding the titans long enough to allow them to either escape or kill the poor things. He sure hopes he finds a way to reverse the horrible thing or bring them to peace without the vulgarity.
It's tiresome having to deal with these things and he just has to wave his wand.
He's just about to turn back as he hears the most gut wrenching cries of anguish.
"Levi?!" That sounds like him, though it's not a sound he would ever wish to tear out of someone's throat.
The cry reminds him of him, when Sirius fell through the veil. He's speeding towards the scene before he can register.
He stops before the horrifying dance of death before him.
Lowering onto the ground he watches in amazement as the man before him who swings and swirls with a graceful vengeance induced in every swing, the monster responding just as vicious but dining nothing to the man as he slices through the titans tendons and ligaments.
He looks around spotting the fallen men, but that doesn't explain the reason why the man is acting so deranged.
His heart stops as his gaze catches the sightless eyes of Isabel, who's body is missing.
'No' Not her.
Not the sweet girl who had just called him her new big bro the last time they saw each other.
His eyes moisten as he feels the presence of death envelopes him with the gentle voice cascading in his ear.
"I'm sorry little one, I didn't want to cause you any more hardship by having you try in vain to save them, no matter how cynical-"
"-When the time comes it's their time" Harry says, gritting his teeth, not wiping his tears that fall.
'Them!' he frantically looks for Levi who is kneeling before… Farlan!
Harry doesn't care for subtlety right now, he's in front of a smaller man, who's so much stronger than he looks.
"Levi?" Speaking softly, ducking under the blade that swings in front of him.
"Woah."
"Did you know?!" Levi spits out rage fueling him.
"Did I know?" Harry is confused and heartbroken for the hurting man.
"Did you know they would die? I know you're not normal m, if you're even human" Levi sneers.
Harry flinches the words sounding too close to the Dursley's calling him a freak, he doesn't know where all this animosity has come from? Does Levi truly believe he'd have allowed people he cares for to die under his watch?
Maybe he doesn't know the man as well as he thought?
"You honestly think so little of me?" Harry states quietly turning his gaze towards the peaceful face of Farlan.
"I honestly don't fucking know anymore."
"I- I. Wish I could have done-"
"Then why didn't you!" Levi screams.
"Why didn't I-'' the passive perimeter ward he has on his person lets him know people are approaching.
"Levi, I know your hurting-"
"You don't know shi, you haven't struggled a day in your life" Levi needing some outlet for his rage and in his delirious state from the activation of his Ackerman blood, something Harry will think back on after he cools down.
Harry stops trying, he's not someone's punching bag, no matter how hurt they may be.
"I'm truly sorry, Levi" he states as calmly as he could before turning on his heel disapparating back to the cottage.
The last thing he hears is
"Tch, then fucking leave" if Harry was more sound in the head he would have heard the true words Levi had tried to say.
'I'm sorry…don't go… I can't be alone again'
A/N:
Should I have Harry join the 104th training corps? Keep in mind he has a youthful appearance when he doesn't portray a older 'persona' well who he is but since he is ageless…
Would Eren have issues with Harry joining him? Or will he use it as an opportunity to keep near his big brother figure
I'm sorry for the angst, but I felt it would be a good Segway into them splitting for three years, so levi can gain his reputation the same way he did in canon.
…and so I don't feel like writing anymore before plot, I want to get it some action.
Though, I think I have one more skip to fully settle things into perspective.
I hope my story is coherent and I sincerely apologize for all my grammatical errors.
