AN: A formidable foe happens upon Bonnie and Kol when they reunite
Life is too short not to seize the moment
I should note that at this point, no one knows that Kol has released Bonnie from the sire bond, that's their little secret

~Bonnie's improv~
Finn practically pushed the door open with his finger while Bonnie worked overtime to keep her eyes on Sage. Thinking quickly, she scoffed as soon as an idea came to her. "What the hell do y'all want? Obviously Kol summoned me! I still have about four hours, I need to go to him, I gotta- ahh!"
Bonnie clutched her stomach and groaned as she keeled over. Bewildered, Finn attempted to steady her while she hollered. "I need to go, it hurts so much! Sage," she grabbed the ginger woman's hand in despair as she continued hollering in her face. "He needs me! I know you know how it feels! AGGGHHHHHH!"
Horrified, Sage shook her hand free. "Sæti, let her go, she's being tortured! We are not going to deal with Kol's fit if she perishes because of this,"
Finn released her and took Sage's hand as Bonnie threw herself to the floor and dramatically writhed as she wailed anguished moans. Upon realizing Finn had released her, she rose to her feet. "Thank you, girl, you're a lifesaver," Bonnie patted her arm before she flashed out.
Newfound freedom was hers once again, still, she had no choice to meet with the insufferable hybrid for the third gotdamn time that night. He'd think she was up to her shenanigans again. She raced home first to ensure Shane's transition was going off well.
"Abby!" She called as she burst into the house. She stopped suddenly when it wasn't Abby but- "Lucy?!" With vampire speed she rushed over to embrace her cousin. "God, please don't leave again,"
Lucy frowned at Abby and squeezed Bonnie. "I kinda don't have a choice, babe. But Abby's here,"
Bonnie pulled back as Abby entered the living room again. "She might have to go again," she said, looking between the two women.
"Bonnie, my focus is you and getting you back to your human self," Abby softly assured.
Bonnie looked up and straightened her spine. "And after that? Your sabbatical is coming to an end," she reminded her. Abby was, after all a CNA in a nursing home, back in Monroe. She took an extended leave of work when Bonnie asked her to come to Mystic Falls but Jamie was still there. Surely she'd want to get back soon. Also, Rudy was going to be pissed when he realized she'd used magic on him. Another good reason for Abby to leave town was that she wouldn't be in the vicinity of Elijah.
"Are you kidding? There's no way I'd leave you alone out here, in the middle of all of this. I should've never left you to deal with this shit on your own, Bonnie,"
Oh great, she sounds passionate, serious, and motherly. Bonnie hoped that passion was for her status as a mother, and not hanky panky with Elijah.
Giving her mother the side eye, Bonnie murmured, "Yes, that's sweet of you. Uh, Lucy, you should stay with us,"
"Listen baby girl, and don't take this wrong way," Lucy said after a sigh. "But I do not fuck with vampires anymore, and even when I did, I steered clear of the fucking Originals. Do I really have to say anymore?"
Bonnie huffed, realizing there was no time to argue. "Does Shane have my blood?" she asked, realizing his heart was still beating.
Abby nodded. "Yeah, we're just giving him a chance in case Klaus kills Da-"
Abby gasped when Bonnie zipped over and snapped Shane's neck in an instant, shoving his body to the ground.
"Fuckstickles!" Lucy yelled.
"Now he has no choice but to help us find the cure. Unless you want to tell me what you've got brewing?" Bonnie watched Abby out of the corner of her eye again.
"Bonnie, that's no secret but Kol or Elijah can't get it out of me and I'm damn sure not telling you. Why, so Kol can sire bond the fuck of it out of you? I don't think so."
"Kol said he wants to help-"
"Kol had a chance to help but he didn't want to release you so it's obvious he'll say anything to get what he wants,"
"Which is?" Lucy asked.
"He wants to destroy anyone who would risk raising Silas,"
Lucy sucked in her breath.
"I need to go, Abby. To stop Klaus from killing Damon so Elena and Stefan don't go on a revenge spree and I don't have to watch the Originals take out my childhood bestie. Bring him to me when I call you, make sure he's loaded with vervain. Lucy, can you help me with something while Abby stays here with Shane?"
~The Mystic Grille~
5:20am
When Bonnie arrived at The Grille, the first thing she seen was Damon flying across the establishment, landing just before the bar. Then Matt landed next to him. They were thrown by Klaus who fumed even further when he seen Bonnie, out of her room once again. He sped over and threw them each towards the entrance in a rage.
The Donovan boy was under the impression that all he had to do was kill Damon and then his dear friend Bonnie would be free of the curse that was about to consume her. Yet, the scales seemed to be tipping in favor of Elena's wishes. The doppelgänger would be lonely and distraught without her obsessive Damon who only drove everyone away from her while she blindly clung to him. As far as Klaus could tell, Matt couldn't stand the raven haired vampire. Still, anything for Elena.
The girl who'd lost it all. Yes, she'd lost her parents, both sets, her aunt, guardian and now her brother and she was only in high school to experience so much loss in such a short time. But, considering more than half of those losses were brought on by her close relationship with the Salvatore's and the way they revolved their world around her, Klaus figured eliminating at least Damon would set her course clear, if not diverging her life's path with Bonnie. Damon had turned Bonnie against her will in cold blood. He needed to reap the consequences of his actions. The little witch made a far more formidable vampire than Damon anyway.
It was an advantage to have Bonnie on Team Mikaelson and Klaus was internally kicking himself for the fact that Kol had noticed her first when he had been aware of her before she even knew what he looked like. At the time, he didn't ever expect her to even glance his way and Caroline was captivating his charm. He knew she'd give in eventually, she was known to relish in the allure of darkness and the male attention, as much as she pretended to hate it. It was monumentally different with Bonnie.
Bonnie was still innocent in the way that she was broken when it came to intimacy, having only experienced a brutal display of intimacy and darkness during her tenure as a witch and her relationship with the Gilbert boy. She craved blood and retribution for all the violence inflicted upon her. Being so attached to her humanity still, the darkness dwelling within Bonnie and those around her was something to fear and tame since she hadn't learned to embrace it. Until then, there was no guilty pleasure to be found in her dealings. Everything was black and white when it came to right and wrong, desire and distaste. For now. Once she surrendered herself to the allure of the dark side and accepted the duality that she was now part of, she would flourish as a vampire. Already Bonnie possessed such strength and promise but wherein she should place her talents to endure the centuries was something he longed to mentor her on.
And she would leave Elena to her own devices and her unfortunate but inevitable doppelgänger fate, as she should have since the moment she found out Elena still chose to continue her relationship with Damon after he'd killed and turned her best friend. Now, Elena was slave to the allure of darkness, bad boys, and the like. But the fact that she expected Bonnie to forgive that and let it go unpunished because she claimed to be in love with him? If she didn't have potent doppelgänger blood, Elena would be expendable and would have met her bloody and far overdue end at that point. She could be a human vegetable for all he cared, as long as he could access her blood through intravenous collection. The dreadfully misguided strumpet was in need of a demonstration of just what exactly her place in this town was. Certainly not the center of everyone's world. Who would she be without a Salvatore on either arm inadvertently dictating the course of her life?
Not that it mattered, he wouldn't be the one to deal with or care for that. Bonnie likely would since she was clearly stubborn as hell. Now he would have to make an example out of her ancient blonde friend, seeing as how she continued to defy his word. There wasn't a vampire alive who'd dared defy the authority of an Original lest they meet a permanent death. That was aside from Katherine and her co-conspirators. They'd lived in hiding and fear for over five centuries.
But Bonnie was Kol's eternal mate. Klaus knew his brother wouldn't do without her, not without raising all the demons of hell to rain on him. That left him no choice but to reign her in through her companions.
"Little witch," he snarled as she rushed to Matt's aid. "You've defied me for the last time tonight,"
"I've got another vampire for Matt! You don't have to kill Damon," she stated as calmly as she could. She figured if she came at Klaus matching his agitation, it wouldn't fare well for anyone involved. She dropped to her knees and poured a handful of salt on the threshold that was the entryway to the booths. Klaus took note of this and smirked a cherry smile.
"Playing the hero again, are we?" He flashed forward but was hit with an invisible barrier preventing him from going further. He banged on it and roared. "RELEASE ME!"
Bonnie gritted her teeth. "Get Matt out of here Damon. And keep him away from Shane,"
Out of her peripheral vision she saw Damon glare and nod before he bumped Matt's shoulder and walked out with him. After they left, Bonnie zipped over and locked the door when she heard wood cracking. Oh SHIT! She barely had time to dodge before broken chair legs were hurled in her direction. Klaus always chose violence instead of using his words like a big boy.
A wooden piece pierced her abdomen and she screamed as she yanked it out and zipped it back, nearly impaling his face.
"What the fuck are you trying to do, kill me?!"
Klaus laughed. Clearly she thought him a fool. Why would he kill her and subject himself to dealing with Kol's tantrum? He knew she could handle the wrath he wrought forth. It was why she chose to keep testing the bounds of his patience.
"When I get free from here, you're going to wish you'd never-"
"You know what I wish I'd never done? Kissed you. That felt wrong in my soul and I'm not the kind of person who gets off on creeping around so you listen to me. I'm going to get Kol out of this fucking curse with Shane as the vampire sacrifice, but not before he tells me how to find access the cure for vampirism. And if you interfere in any way or try to kiss me or any of that weird shit again, I will desiccate you when I'm a witch again, and so will each daughter that's born into my family for generations to come,"
Bonnie stood tall, glaring up at Klaus as she spoke with her hands on her hips. "But… If you're a good boy, I'll let you kill Shane once I have what I need from him, as long as Matt has another vampire to kill," she added flippantly. "And not Damon,"
Klaus slowly calmed down his heaving chest and donned a look of -was that compliance?! She didn't know why she was surprised that he was accepting her terms because he definitely should have. When it came down to it, he was just another man who held no dominion over her, no one did and it was high time the world knew it! She would demand the respect she deserved, to be treated like an equal and not some whore or eye candy, not even the supernatural fix it for this damn town. Having to grow up too fast and step to the plate was trying enough with all the shadow world breathing down her back. Still, as aware that she was that much more just conduct was warranted, Bonnie was internally stunned when Klaus spoke next.
"Very well, little witch,"
What in the holy fuck! Did she hear him right? She wanted to dig in her ears in effort to ensure she'd heard him properly, at the same time she never wanted to give Klaus the pleasure of seeing her sweat. Or absolutely taken by surprise. She clenched her jaw and reached into her pocket.
"Color me impressed. If your plan goes off well, you will have earned my respect," he continued. Bonnie may have had trouble embracing the dark parts of her vampirism, but it was sure as hell embracing her. And Klaus had the perfect vampire in mind.
She mocked a smile before she blew a handful of black dust in his face. "The fuck ima do with that," she muttered as he fell to the ground in a slumber.
"There is a quantity of liberties truly having Niklaus's respect will allot you, Miss Bennett," Elijah said quietly from behind her. He must have slipped in through the back entrance.
"I don't need his permission for anything. Neither do you, Rebekah, or Kol. The sooner we all accept that, the sooner we'll all be one big, happy dysfunctional family, thank you Kol," Bonnie rolled her eyes. "If I'm gonna be stuck with y'all, then best believe. You're stuck with me too,"
Elijah smiled a crooked smile at her and offered to see Klaus home. She thanked him and walked outside of the establishment where Lucy was waiting for her. "You good?" Her cousin asked.
"It's been a long night," Bonnie shrugged.
"For you and me both," Lucy agreed. The two cousins smiled at each other then Lucy looked away with uncertainty.
Bonnie frowned as they walked towards the older Bennett's car. "You're really leaving?"
She sighed. "Look, I gotta go after this, kid. I got stuff. But you aren't alone, ok?"
"You know Katherine threw me out of a fucking two story window?"
"No she didn't! Shit, really? That snakey bitch!"
The car alarm chirped and then they each got into the car. "Yeah. She's around here somewhere, watching our every move so she can come in at the last second fucking shit up," Bonnie blinked back tears, figuring it was no use begging anyone to stay when they clearly didn't want to.
"I'm actually on her trial but I had to make a quick stop to check on you,"
Bonnie snapped her head towards Lucy. "Really?"
"I told you I got stuff. I'll be around Bonnie, I promise. I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't too keen on messing with the Originals. But you and Abby have them wrapped around your hand, I know they wouldn't dare piss you off," Lucy then noticed a tear that had escaped the corner of her eye. "Hey! What's this?" She asked, taking her chin.
"It's just that… if you leave, then Abby leaves, I'll be alone again. I've been alone since Grams…"
Her fears about Abby continued to grow the closer they got to finding the cure. The fear that Abby would leave once Bonnie was cured of vampirism was something she hasn't shared with anyone but Tyler and it was something she couldn't shake.
"I'm sure if you talk to her about how you feel, it'll help settle your mind," she suggested.
Bonnie nodded and looked at the time as Lucy revved the engine. It was 5:32am when sleep slowly embraced Bonnie in her seat of the car.
~Waking up~
Bonnie didn't even remember falling asleep or how she got into bed that morning. After a series of odd dreams about Stefan and Elena being doppelgängers that she couldn't even begin to discern what the hell they could have meant, she opened her eyes. She found it was nightfall and she was in her bed at her Gram's house. Immediately she felt Kol's presence.
"Your dad was pissed off that I used magic on him," Abby's voice vibrated through the darkness. "So I used more magic on him to make sure he forgot all about Professor Shane. Except he still doesn't want Kol at the house, I couldn't tamper with his natural instincts as a father so," Abby shrugged. "Kol is downstairs,"
"Is he ok?" Bonnie asked as she turned on her bedside lamp.
"He's Kol, babe. That boy ain't ever gonna truly be ok,"
She heard Kol and his sister laugh. "Abby, it's been over a month and you're still in town. How long are you planning on being here?"
Abby went from a concerned state to averting her eyes. "I'll be outside channeling nature. I'm sure y'all have a lot to discuss," she held open the door for Bonnie who wasted no time flashing downstairs.
She paused at the bottom of the staircase and when she saw Rebekah sitting with Kol on her Gram's couch, her chin wobbled when she met his eyes. She was experiencing an unexpected surge in emotional overload and when she looked into his eyes, once again animated with life and hope (and of course desire every time he looked at Bonnie), she flashed forward and threw her arms around him so fast she nearly knocked him over.
"Oh! Kol!" She whimpered, choking back a sob as she squeezed him.
"Hey, hey," he said, holding her close when she began to sob. "I'm alright, darling. Thanks to you,"
"Well I'm not," Rebekah huffed. "Not only did you bail on me once again, you also didn't trust me with keeping Kol safe and instead of letting me be angry over it,"
"Drama queen," Kol muttered under his breath.
"you're being all mushy and gushy over Kol as if he's the only one who truly cares for you, and once again I'm left to be forgotten! Am I not important to you?!"
Crap! Bonnie had nearly slept through the girl's night that was supposed to be reserved for the two of them. All the chaos with the hunter's curse had overshadowed any other plans she'd had.
"I'm a fucking inconsiderate idiot, Rebekah,"
The blonde nodded in frustrated agreement.
"I'll make it to you I swear," Bonnie promised. "I just really need to talk to Kol and then we can hang tonight,"
Rebekah's face changed suddenly. "You'll have to take a rain check darling, I'm in quite the demand these days," Bonnie cocked a brow. "and it's obvious you need to be with your bonded," she gave Kol a disdainful onceover before she sucked Bonnie into her compulsion. "Don't ever keep something as important as a hunter's curse from me again,"
"What the hell, Bekah!" Kol used his vampire speed to flip Rebekah around, shove her out the front door, and slam it.
"Oh shut up, Kol you have her under a sire bond, don't judge my methods!" She yelled outside of the door and was then heard speeding away.
Kol shook his head at the door. "Unfortunately your lover's tiff might go on for weeks. It's part of Rebekah's-"
Bonnie lunged forward and hit Kol with a powerful kiss to his lips, taking him by surprise. It just felt too damn good to be in his arms again, and be able to kiss him and he wasn't trying to assault her due to the hunter's curse.
He surprised her as well when he let her kiss him as deeply as she wanted without overpowering her. Black veins indicating the extent of her desire swarmed over her cheeks as she pulled back, her fangs gently tugging on his lips. Bonnie looked up at him then donned a bashful grin as her vampire face dissolved. "You were saying?" she asked in a soft and husky utterance.
Kol's own vampire face flickered through for a moment. "To hell with whatever it was. I want you to take you somewhere. Will you join me?"
She took his hands, feeling spontaneous and unpredictable, yet her emotions flowed with eager anticipation for where the night would end up. "Anywhere,"
Kol literally picked up Bonnie in his arms and swept her off her feet as he whisked them away to his own home. Once they reached the mansion, they promptly got into his car and set out on the road. He didn't say much while he drove, but something Bonnie noticed was that he kept casting longing gazes in her direction.
~Anywhere~
Eventually, when they were about halfway to the next town, Kol pulled over to the side of the road and cut the engine. Bonnie frowned and looked around as her heart fluttered. She noticed a steel chain in the backseat and grabbed it. What the fuck happened while she slept?
All alone on a dark and barren road with Kol Mikaelson and the heightened, burning tension between the two, wasn't at all what she'd had in mind when she said anywhere. "What the hell are we doing out here?"
Instead of answering he changed the music selection. "One thing I love about this century is that there is an abundance of music available whenever you desire it,"
The intro to Avenged Sevenfold's Seize the day began to play. Oh my God. Bonnie leaned down and covered her face with her hands as she cringed at how much of a teen cliché she felt she was as she realized where this was likely going. He flashed to her door and opened it, pulling a reluctant Bonnie out and into his arms.
"Don't be bashful now, darling. It's too late for that," he said, affixing her gaze to his. "The first time we were here, I intended to make you mine that night,"
He spoke in such confidence and not his usual cocky way, but Bonnie still felt the need to remind him of her independence.
"It's my choice, Kol. I now have the freedom to choose you or not choose you. It gives me a newfound appreciation for you,"
His eyes wandered slightly before they settled back on Bonnie's. "It's giving me a newfound sense of regret," he smarted.
"And why is that?"
"Have you not learned enough about the mate bond by now? You can choose to leave anytime you'd want but it will always torment the both of us as a way to pull us back together and we haven't even had a proper chance for a… you find this amusing?" He frowned when Bonnie threw her head back and started laughing. "It's a dire situation if you decline your role as my eternal mate,"
"I'm sorry," she gasped, trying to catch her breath and then she began speed-talking. "It's just I went through a lot to get the hunter's curse off your back and then Klaus was- being Klaus of course and I killed Shane for you, Kol, I don't just go around killing people. Of course I had to make him a vampire so he's a pawn in his own game and I thought you'd appreciate the irony of Shane being a vampire-"
"I do,"
"And I'm talking really fast because I'm super nervous, I was totally messing with you about me choosing an option that's not you and I had to save Damon for Stefan and Elena because it's so damn good to have free will these days and I think it will bring us closer," she inhaled deeply, finally taking a breath. "You know what I mean, Kol?"
Kol said nothing and stared at her hard as she gave him a hopeful smile that slowly faded.
Then his face softened. "Bonnie, you have went above and beyond the scope of things I haven't even asked of you. I asked you to stay away, the liberty to leave all of this behind was yours,"
"No it wasn't, the mate bond will always pull us back together somehow," she said with an eye roll.
"True, but I'd respect your wishes to keep your distance for as long as you required,"
"You really would?"
"You have spared me, great suffering. I honestly didn't fancy the thought of suffering the hunter's curse for half a century. I've experienced it once before and that was enough,"
"Was that because of your vampire Faith?" Bonnie shrugged one shoulder, in effort to ask as casually as she could.
Kol smirked. "Is that jealousy I'm detecting?"
"More like curiosity,"
"Mhmm,"
"Oh come on, you know about my shitty ex, don't I get to know about yours?"
"If you choose me, Bonnie, there's no going back. Are you sure that's what you want?"
"I know what it entails. Do you know what choosing me entails?"
"The wrath of you and your mother," he chuckled.
She smiled and stood closer, leaning on her tiptoes. "All of me, gets all of you. And vice versa. Because it's like that for any relationship. The good,"
"The bad," Kol's hands snaked around her hips, pressing her closer to him as he leaned down.
"And the ugly," an extra voice chimed in, chuckling and starting a slow clap. Kol positioned Bonnie behind him in a protective gesture and growled bearing fang as Ric Saltzman stepped out of the woods with a small band of Klaus's unsired hybrids. The idiot really sired a nation's army of those fuckers! "Cliché but cute, Bonnie. I didn't know you could be so sentimental. Jeremy always said you were stuck up and uptight,"
"Over the centuries I've discovered that the majority of men who thought their women uptight were actually poorly skilled in the art of pleasure. As you can see we haven't had that issue here," Kol beamed the sort of smile that was only born of malice.
Alaric scoffed as the hybrids surrounded them. There was about eight of them plus him. Panic filled initially Bonnie as her fight or flight response weighed the internal struggle that was brewing within her. A nightmare she'd had after her first hybrid fight showed her Kol's death post another hybrid battle. But this was no dream and she knew Kol wouldn't let her fight on her own, they'd stick together. That comment about Jeremy slapped some rage into her combined with the fact that she was afraid of losing Kol again and her defenses kicked into high gear.
"See, I've just got a problem with an Original abomination corrupting my straight A students. Well I'd say Bonnie has been at a struggling B minus right around the time she became like you,"
Bonnie scoffed. The warm hearted, alcoholic instructor she knew and adored was gone. "So it's ok for Jeremy to take advantage of me because he was human but me hanging with Kol isn't because he's an Original? Did you even have any actual values before you became-" she waved a hand toward him. "Whatever the fuck you are now?"
Bonnie wrapped the chain around her right knuckles as she stepped to Kol's right.
"Step aside, Bonnie, you don't have to get yourself killed right now. I just want him," he pointed at Kol who glared at him. "Your death will come shortly after," he added with a smug grin.
"Oh you haven't heard? My girl is a special kind of vampire. A legend actually, there's not a hybrid alive to tell the tale of their battle with Bonnie Bennett," he interlocked his fingers with Bonnie's left hand and gave her an affirming squeeze before he released her.
"Ric, you come for my man, and you're just asking to get fucked up by the both of us,"
"Don't say I didn't warn you," he said, with blatant noncommittal tenor.
There was a powerful vibration pulsing in the nighttime sky. Black auras surrounded her, giving her adrenaline. It was officially official between Bonnie and Kol and their first act as a couple was going into what may very well turn out to be a life or death battle for the both of them. Yet, Bonnie had no fears. She knew Kol was excited for this, having never seen her take on hybrids before.
"You ready, love?" She exchanged brief glances with Kol before a collective snarling of vampire faces from everyone present manifested.
She nodded. "Ready to fuck it up,"
What a fucking moment to seize, she thought as the hybrids descended upon their glares.
