AN: Keep our hearts from breaking, beating still

Six feet deep

A funeral for all the love we've lost

We'll bury yesterday

Things I've never said before

Always six feet deep

- Funeral for Yesterday by Kittie

- Backstabber by Kesha

Whaaat, I'm back with an update!

(My next update with be My Sister Sookie, then Closer and one of my new ones somewhere in between those)

The song for this chapter is also the theme of letting things go that are DOA. Like being friends with Elena in this one, since she obvi can't be trusted. And you know I LOVE my girl Kesha! So fitting that song in here is awesome to me.

All business from here on out when it comes to the doppelgänger!

~Mysterious dreams~

Elena ran by, as if in slow motion. "Elena, wait!" Bonnie called. The doppelgänger turned around and stared at Bonnie, as if she were confused. Stefan appeared behind her in his true Ripper fashion, veins writhing before he took a chunk out of her neck. Instead of falling victim to his assault, Elena turned it around on him and bit into his neck as well, looking as if all humanity was lost to her. Bonnie instinctively knew she had failed. The cure! A whisper of a despairing thought formed in her head. "Noooo!" Her screams echoed before her dreamscape changed.

A small child wept until Bonnie scooped her up into her arms and shushed her, singing soothingly. "Shhhh, it's okay, I've got you sweetie," The cure. The sentiment floated in her mind, this time calmly.

Unable to tell if it was Damon or Kol, a vampire rushing up to them wavered away in a ripple within a foot of reaching them.

~Peace talks~

Irritated to a new, unfathomable level of frustration that a series of occurrences continually tried to drive a wedge between her and Kol when she just wanted his body on hers again, Bonnie was surprised when she walked up to the Salvatore boardinghouse and felt the black aura's seeping from the property. This was surely the work of Damon corrupting Elena with his sire bond. Training her to hate Bonnie solely because being on the side of the Original's placed her higher on the food chain than he was. Facing the facts, she understood Damon had an innate need to be the biggest, baddest threat there was in town. If he took on that role, there'd be no threat against his precious Elena. Yet there were the Original vampires, the Original Hybrid, and Ms. Abigail Bennett.

What Damon didn't seem to understand was his undertaking of Elena was the very thing that placed her in more danger, being that if he convinced Elena to come for Bonnie, or Kol, there were three capable and willing, even eager candidates to end her. Abigail didn't necessarily want to hurt her best friend's daughter, though if it came to a choice between the two, the doppelgänger would take the L. Kol had killed her once and he'd do it again, he meant to end her permanently. Rebekah simply couldn't stand her since she literally stabbed her in the back.

But for Bonnie, if you extracted the whole Jeremy ordeal and the vampire invasion from the equation, Elena was still the childhood friend she'd have died for. Hell, she did it twice already. Two best friends, tethered to vampires who were mortal enemies, was something Bonnie never imagined could be possible.

Elena settling in on the dark side would only eventually incite Bonnie's bloodlust, which had no appetite for the blood of the innocent. She tried to kill Kol before she met her own death, out of spite and hate, believing he was the one who killed her brother. It was a vengeful, dark part of her that was unrecognizable, though Bonnie was coming to realize it could very well be who Elena was now, with Damon's influence.

Dark Elena meeting a demise would definitely alleviate some of the guilt- but certainly not all since a message about E and Stefan was trying to get through to her by permeating her dreams- she had over how their friendship turned out. In her endeavor to save Elena's life, she had sided with the Originals, sealing her fate amongst their camp. The lines drawn were obvious by now, only growing more prominent as Elena's Damon inherited disdain for Bonnie flared, while she and Klaus approached the front door.

Speaking of Klaus, he was another attempted wedge between her and Kol. The other wedge being Abby and her little siphoning trick, that left him desiccated. She'd had but mere moments with him since his liberation from the hunter's curse and finally given into the passion she'd initially warred with, internally. There wasn't much time to privy him to the dreams she'd had and what they could possibly mean. Abby was too busy working her ass off over her black magic to ask, and since Kol was incapacitated again , Bonnie figured Shane might have some intel. After they retrieved the only weapon he could possibly manipulate in some way to use against them. Klaus of course volunteered to accompany her in that endeavor, reasoning that his tactics for retrieving what he demanded were far superior. Insert wedge .

Bonnie felt blazing blue eyes watched her from behind as she strutted up the walkway, clicking her heels on the ground. She spun around, fully annoyed. " What? "

"There's something you've neglected to tell me, isn't there?" Klaus queried, presumingly.

Bonnie blushed immediately as memories of her intimate sessions with Kol rushed to the forefront of her mind. The fact that every member of the Original family had heightened hearing senses meant they bore audio witness to the things she'd done with Kol. Klaus was hating and it tickled her that he was the big bad Hybrid, yet he envied his baby brother for her affections. Bonnie corrected herself, Klaus wasn't interested in her affections, just her body. Solely for the fact that he couldn't have it.

"Wipe that stupid grin off of your face, I'm in no way referring to your infantile and quite frankly less than impressive introduction to intimacy with Kol."

Now that she'd been corrupted by Kol, he'd caught her alternating between a perpetual idiot's grin and her usual scowl when Kol, Klaus, or anyone did something to displease her. Even through her disappointments, she was living in swoon city.

She hadn't even realized she'd donned a smile. She wasn't going to curb her enthusiasm just to appease Klaus. The sex was that good. But what was Klaus on about?

"What would that be?"

"Playing the part of coy? Predictable. I mean to pull it out of you by any means necessary," it was obvious by now that there was more than just the one-sided sisterhood with Elena that Bonnie aimed to preserve. The girl had made two attempts on Kol's life, and even one on her own, courtesy of Damon. Fury and betrayal had to be burning inside at the doppelgänger's deception and homicidal urges. Was it guilt? Over what? Was it possible that Bonnie arranged for the demise of the Gilbert boy?

Bonnie lifted her chin and pursed her lips in distaste. "You do that then, but keep in mind I've been known to fuck hybrids up," a nonchalant shrug accompanied her thinly veiled warning. She would play it off as though Abby's top secret mission, which would only be revealed to those willing to assist, was still a top secret mission. Klaus could speculate all he wanted but Bonnie needed answers about her dreams that were more like visions. She'd learned the hard way what the Mikaelson's do about early speculations.

"What is your secret to defeating the hybrids? Elijah, Kol and I have all borne witness. It appears to come as a second nature to you,"

She gave a deep shrug in response. "I don't know, it's probably Kol's diabolical blood and the rage within me for how I became this… bloodsucker in the first place. Either way, I'll waste all the hybrids that come at me, so…"

"Rest assured you'll no longer encounter any hybrid troubles as they've all been compelled to burn in the sun should they decide to cross me. When the time and place is right, little witch. I will find out your deal with my hybrids and what you're hiding,"

"Can we just focus on survival right now?" She huffed, holding her pocket. She wouldn't risk pulling out her rosemary bundle just yet.

She knocked at the door of the boardinghouse. An ominous feeling came over her suddenly and she locked eyes with Klaus who grabbed her with his hybrid speed and held her against the opposite wall as a wooden arrow flew by where her chest previously rested.

Elena could be heard reprimanding Damon about aiming straight for Bonnie's heart. It was apparent the life long friend was still somewhere in there, deep down. Only Bonnie knew it meant nothing, not to Damon.

Suddenly the door opened and Elena stood there. "Bonnie," she said quickly with her hands gently raised. "You have to know I would never attack you on my own, I never blamed you for any of this! Fucking Damon and his-"

"Save it, Elena. I can see he's loosened the reins but obviously he's still got you on a tight leash,"

The doppelgänger's face screwed up in a pout. "That's not fair! Kol did the same damn thing to you and you still care for him, enough to sleep with him the night he killed me! Don't act like I'm the only one who's on a leash here because I have a heart, Bon,"

"I'm just gonna stop you right there. We all know if I would've really wanted Damon dead, Kol would have made that happen. And girl, let me tell you! It's what he originally wanted but he actually kinda listened to me," she caught Klaus's eye, who snorted. "I said kinda ,"

The little witch was giving Kol too much credit for self control, when everyone knew he was only temporarily distracted by Bonnie and her charms. The only reason he didn't finish doing away with Damon over the weekend was to assuage her anger with him. Both she and Elijah agreed they needed peace. The elder Bennett witch had the right idea, though. There could only be peace when justice was served. Also in alignment with Klaus's ideals was having Kol incapacitated, being that Bonnie could only handle so much distraction from Kol. Without him around, she'd better see for herself that Damon had long outlived his usefulness.

Bonnie held up the rosemary bundle that was supposed to induce the truth.

"How many white oak stakes are there left?"

"Eight," Elena said automatically.

"Elena!" Damon yelled and sped up behind her.

Damn, that really did come in handy! Abby suggested using a truth bundle since Klaus couldn't get close enough to compel any vampires in the boardinghouse without risking being staked with white oak.

"This is one last chance, Elena. You guys give up the white oak stakes or be confined to these walls, for as long as it takes,"

"I'll give you a stake," Damon said. Suddenly one came hurling at her. Klaus snatched the foolish little witch out of the way.

"The barrier spell won't hold me, you know. I can pull you out and hold you hostage until the barrier spell kills you, similar to when you're trapped inside a home you've been extended no invitation to," Klaus warned. Then he turned to Bonnie. "Well, there you have it, tiny fool. We gave yours and Elijah's method a go and it failed, as I and everyone else all predicted it would. Elena, you'll have to forgive Bonnie, she's having trouble remembering that she's on the side of the winning team. You all have twelve hours to send a lowly human with the seven remaining stakes or I will burn this entire place to the ground while you all are still spelled prisoner,"

Elena's brown eyes widened. "Bonnie, no , I'll talk to Damon. This can't be us, we're like sisters, don't let the Originals push you around!"

Was she serious? Here was Damon again trying to end her for good and Elena's audacity- Bonnie had to stop her thought process, it was building a fury that would culminate in an insatiable hunger if she didn't calm down. Instead she took a deep breath and looked at Klaus. "Make it eight hours,"

"Excellent idea," he said, beaming. He knew the witch had it in her! Witches were determined in that manner, even if she was now vampire, the spirit in her shined through. She would realize the wrongs that required righting. He took hold of her arms and whisked her away.

~The breaking down~

"Are you okay, baby girl?" Abby asked quietly.

Bonnie blew out a long breath. "My supposed best friend keeps shitting on the fact that the man she loves wants me dead and somehow it's my fault,"

"She's changed a lot, messing with that dude," Abby agreed.

"No," Bonnie shook her head. "Caroline said being a vampire doesn't change who you are at your core, it just brings out who you already are. Guess who I am," she bit her lip to keep it from trembling with the weight of the troubling emotions about to overflow. Before doormat, pushover, and patsy, as Kol would say, could form in her mind, Abby went up and grabbed her chin with both hands.

"No. Don't you even think for one second that you aren't worth more than your stupid ass, so called friends have made you feel like you're worth. Elena's clearly not who she pretended to be as a human, it wouldn't surprise me if she's got soo demons deep down just like her brother. Her vampire affinity sure doesn't help her out of bullshit and she's just trying to keep you in it so her and her boy toys can have the advantage that is you . A powerful Bennett witch, don't forget who the fuck you are at your core, Bonnie,"

"But I'm not a witch anymore, Abby," she said with tears welling up in her eyes.

"You witch roots aren't releasing you fully to vampirism. I know it, and the Originals know it too. I've been trying to find out what it means but I have to go meet with Lucy again. She felt it too,"

Abby had a point since Bonnie could feel something in her that wasn't letting her down. But her despair over how things turned out with Elena had her feeling like all she was, was a daughter, a lover, a former witch, a vampire… and that was it. Something was missing in her labels and it was friendship. It wasn't an easy feat to wrap her head around who she was without Elena in her corner. Another thing to wrap her head around was the fact that she'd literally died two temporary but still excruciatingly painful deaths, all for Elena. Both times at the force of Damon. She'd heard about the bitch slap he took when she'd had to play dead for Klaus. By the time it came to actually take out Klaus, she'd forgiven him again, before she found about his werewolf bite. Even though they were chasing lead after lead for Stefan, she was eerily close with Damon by her birthday.

Maybe it wasn't that their friendship failed, because it was the same with Stefan and Caroline. In spite of the things Damon had done to them, it was still Damon over everyone. Maybe bad boys were her thing. Part of Bonnie was surprised she didn't go for Klaus, he was as bad as they came. Hell, he even killed Ric and Jeremy in one of his little bitch fits over Elena related drama.

It was always going to be Damon. Bonnie was piecing together that that was a fact since before the night she transitioned and Damon was Elena's comfort.

Her hatred for the older Salvatore was becoming physical. No wonder everyone wanted him dead. She felt bad for Stefan constantly being the one to have to vouch for him, at the same time if he hadn't done that so hard with Elena, the fool probably wouldn't have lost his girl to him. Then again, if she was so drawn to the darkness that Damon made no effort to suppress, Stefan might have kept his girl. His brother was probably getting in the way and Stefan no longer cared to fight for her heart, but her friendship. Why were they still drawn to each other? They weren't even each other's first everything's. It made little sense but even in her dreams, chaos revolved around them.

She sighed. It was still hard to come to terms with realizing she didn't know Elena like she thought she did. The person she once considered a sister was now a foreign stranger to her. And her life could be at stake. In this she felt powerless but what could she do if Elena was determined to go down with the ship that was Damon?

Besides, Bonnie knew she deserved a hell of a lot better and it was time Elena and company recognized it, only she wasn't used to putting her needs first. Grams was probably having a conniption on the other side with what Bonnie had allowed herself to be put through. She smiled when she realized she had a few someone's who would put her first and always had since she became vampire. Rebekah Mikaelson was the shining beacon in all of this since the day she'd plucked her out of a battle between Klaus and Kol. She'd made it clear she was a true friend, a sister she could depend on when in need, being genuinely hurt when Bonnie took it upon herself. Only Bonnie wasn't being very sisterly back, in fact she was kind of being an Elena, indulging herself into her complicated relationship with Kol instead. That was all going to change.

As Tyler said, she had badassery in her and she needed to let it out. He was another someone who truly had her back in her time of need.

~Flashback to the vampire adjustment period~

Sitting in the woods, Bonnie ground the herbs into a thick paste. Then taking a small twig, she scooped a pinch of the paste and lifted it to her mouth. It burned on her tongue as well as going down her throat but Bonnie needed the vervain so she couldn't be compelled. She was sure Kol was silently compelling her earlier and she couldn't risk any of the other Originals compelling her at any rate.

"Vervain is toxic to vampires. Tell me, darling, do you enjoying harming yourself?" Kol said as he casually strolled up in front of her.

She grimaced and doubled over as the vervain made its way to her stomach, still burning. After a moment, it dissipated and she glared up at Kol, through her darkly tinted sunglasses.

"What do you want?"

"Isn't it obvious since the night we met? I want you , Bonnie,"

"I have a boyfriend,"

"And yet you've kissed me twice. Though loyal your heart is indeed, it is clear your loyalty does not lie with him," he held a hand out for her to take so he could pull her to a standing position. "And I've come to check on my baby vampire. The sun is so brightly harsh today,"

"I'm fine. And I don't want you, I love my boyfriend, Kol, so leave me alone,"

He pulled her against his body with a hiss. "Admit it. You do want me. Probably this instant if my senses are accurate. And they always are,"

"I do," she moaned, automatically. What the fuck? She had no intention of admitting things she wasn't even sure she felt, yet Kol ripped it out of her.

He smirked and hovered over her as she stepped back, kneeling to the ground. "Then have me you shall,"

Bonnie felt yet another silent demand. Just as her body was about to betray her and meet his lips, he stiffened with a jerk. Then he fell forward, the desiccation veins sprawling all over his body.

Tyler Lockwood stood behind him, a bloody hand clutching his heart. He threw it to the floor. "I really hate that dick. Caroline told me what happened last night," he crouched down, lowering his voice. "I can get you out of here, but we have to go now ,"

He held out his hand. Bonnie glanced at Kol's dead body. He was most certainly about to fuck her, right on the ground in the woods. She recognized the determined heat in his eyes that she'd come to loathe over the past year. That alone showed the blatant disregard and disrespect he had for her wishes. She needed to get the fuck out of there if she hoped to avoid another Jeremy situation. It took about four seconds for her to take Tyler's hand and they instantly sped off.

~Tyler's family lake house~

Tyler escorted Bonnie to his family's lake house that was two hours away. He had food delivered, knowing Bonnie's hunger was ravenous, but the delivery girl would make the most appetizing meal. She didn't need food as much as she needed blood.

"Food's here," Tyler said as he went to answer the door.

When Tyler came back with a girl who was clearly compelled, Bonnie shot up out of her seat. "I'm not doing it, I don't want to kill her!"

"Chill, you can have her blood in a glass. I'll heal her if you want, but you need to feed, Bonnie,"

" No ," she insisted. "I can go grab a squirrel or something,"

Tyler choked out a laugh. "The bunny diet? You're not gonna be a Ripper deep down like Stefan, are you? Have you even fed on a human?"

"Yes and I maintained enough control that I'm not a slave to my need for blood,"

"Mhmm. Bonnie, listen if you don't feed, I'm gonna hold you down and force feed you. It's the only way you're going to master control, by doing . You need human blood to be at full strength,"

Tyler couldn't possibly know how much holding her hostage would trigger her trauma induced anxiety, so she opted to make sure that wasn't necessary. "Fine, just don't hurt her,"

"Aww someone has a heart," he smirked.

He guided Bonnie to feed on her and then demonstrated how she could heal her without giving her too much blood by pricking his finger with a fang and dabbing a drop of blood on the puncture wounds. He watched Bonnie compel her and was impressed.

"You caught on fast," he said marveling. The delivery girl left the room and the house in her compulsion daze.

"Kol taught me," Bonnie replied with a shrug.

"What is it with you and him?"

"His blood sired me. I think it kind of connects us in some weird way maybe. Was it like that with you and Klaus?"

"It's more of a wolf thing with us. Like he's the fucking tyrant pack master and we all instinctively have to obey his demands no matter what. It was like a law of nature. I'm glad to be rid of that dick's influence," Tyler gritted his teeth angrily.

That was understandable, Klaus had made him do some awful things.

"Yeah, no kidding. I- aghhh!" She keeled over when she felt a sharp, pulling sensation in her gut. The influence of Kol was present and the need to go to him reigned her logic. He wanted her back.

"What's wrong?!"

"He wants me… to go to him… ugh!"

"Bonnie, you can't! Fuck," Tyler jumped up and paced the room.

She inched towards the door and felt some relief that she was going in the direction she was being pulled. Suddenly Tyler was in front of her, blocking her way. "I'm gonna have to break your neck, he can't do this if you aren't conscious,"

"What?!" The pulling sensation twisted her guts again and Bonnie groaned when suddenly it stopped. "Oh God," She looked up at Tyler. "Okay. If that happens again, you can snap my neck,"

"I'm sorry, Bon. You want me to get Jeremy over here?"

"No, no. That's okay, we haven't exactly had a chance to talk since all this happened,"

"I just figured with heightened vampire senses you'd be missing him. I miss the shit out of Caroline and I saw her this morning. How long has it been?"

Two days since Jeremy touched her inappropriately for what she promised herself was the last time. Now that she was a vampire, she didn't want to risk going near him for the fear that she'd kill him with the buried rage she had over the way he'd treated her ever since he forced his way back into her life and her pants.

"I think with him being a human, we're going to need some space. Caroline almost lost control with Matt, being so new with hormones and all that. It wouldn't sit well with me if I hurt him," Specifically because she knew she'd enjoy it and that wasn't exactly fair to Elena.

Tyler gave her a long, searching look. "He doesn't deserve you, and that's clear. I know he tries but you haven't looked at him the same and he looks at you with an intensity that's worse than when he was on Vicki's nuts,"

Oh God, poor Vicki. She never even really cared for Jeremy, he seemed to feed off rejection. But still she didn't deserve what happened to her. Fucking Damon. Bonnie was now his third victim turned vampire if you counted how Damon's blood sired Caroline. She did feel partly responsible but reasoned that if she hadn't made what turned out to be a very strategic move, Caroline would be dead for good. Damon and Jeremy were the scum of the earth. Elena would see that in time. She had to.

Bonnie just smiled softly and said, "It feels good to have some space to think and clear my head,"

Tyler nodded. "I'm gonna go call Care. If you need anything,"

She nodded and grabbed a grimoire to flip through.

~Present day~

What a damn fool she was to think Elena would ever see reason. Bonnie sneered as she walked through the halls of the Mikaelson mansion. She paused in front of Rebekah's door and took a second to listen for any sounds coming from inside. Not a damn thing . Gross. She raised her hand to knock on the door when Klaus came strolling down the hallway.

"I wouldn't if I were you," he said in his irksome tenor.

"Well, good thing you're you and I'm me because I'm doing what I would do," Bonnie knocked on the door anyway.

When it opened a second later and Rebekah poked her head out to breathlessly ask what she required, Bonnie regretted not taking Klaus's advice. She noticed there were silk scarves tied around her wrists. Rebekah laughed when she gasped at that sight.

"Sorry darling, I'm a bit tied up at the moment. Promise I'll be free in an hour," she gave an innocently expectant look and Bonnie understood. She backed away slowly before Rebekah disappeared back into her room. She was perplexed and caught off guard at the fact that a powerful Original was playing submissive. Was it her idea? Or did the photographer make her do it?

Klaus eyed her as she turned and continued down the hall. He followed. "I can see the wheels of thoughts churning now," he said with a light chuckle.

"Don't start your bull, I just need vervain so I can speak to Shane,"

"You realize Rebekah has had a thousand years to figure out exactly what she desires in a lover?"

"It's not my problem if she wants to let that man seduce her while she's helpless and you should really focus your thoughts elsewhere right now," Bonnie said with a scoff. Suddenly she was pinned against the wall with Klaus in her face.

"How has he been with you? Now that you've freely surrendered the gift of your very vulnerable womanhood,"

"It's been fine. Compel me if you want but my answer will be the same. Kol and I are fine,"

"Then what do you want with Shane? You gave me your word that you'd let me end him once you were finished with him,"

Bonnie grinned and bit her lip. "You're such a good boy, you actually listened to me," then she shoved him off of her and smoothed her blouse down. "I'm obviously not finished with him and rather than keep expanding his threshold for torture, I'm going to try talking to him,"

"I'll need the details of this interaction, you understand,"

Finn and Sage turned down the corridor just then. Klaus turned to them. "Brother! Join me for a drink,"

He nodded. "But first, a word with Miss Bennett,"

Oh God, what did he want now? "Yes, Finn," Bonnie said as she stepped forward.

"Kol will release you from your sire bond. I will ensure it,"

"For none is a love as true as one that comes straight from the heart," Sage added.

They were so damn sappy, but apparently everlasting love had that effect on people. It irked her to no end, only because she couldn't admit deep down she wanted that. A love as free and true as the love they held for one another but whether or not she could have that with Kol was doubtful. Bonnie was still trying to endure his intensity and it didn't help that she was falling deeper into a lust with him. The physical feelings clouded her judgment and she didn't trust anything that made her disregard the consequences in favor of erotic stimulation. That's what the hell Elena was doing. But Bonnie wouldn't let whatever was going on with Kol consume her whole life, endangering the people she loved. She was, after all, a keeper of the balance at heart.

Besides, Kol kept disappointing her and it wasn't the fact that he'd tried to off Damon and Elena, she expected that. It felt disrespectful that she couldn't trust that asking him to hold off on his murderous tendencies would make a difference. As if it was he who wanted the retribution. Wasn't it her score to settle anyway, her way? Once she felt it was appropriate…

"Finn, thank you but that really isn't necessary. I'm working the situation out with Kol,"

"If you request it of me, the injustice will be remedied. I'll await your word,"

"For sure," she nodded and smiled before she continued down to the basement. Finn was a real one and it was so dope in Bonnie's eyes to see how a massive portion of his perspective on immortal life had altered after his reunion with Sage. At least he was for Team Mikaelson now, even though he didn't agree with their feeding habits.

Down in the basement, Professor Shane was practically graying. Though, he apparently still channeled the audacity.

"Bonnie," he groaned. "I knew you'd come. You need me, you know, you and Abby,"

"You're only as useful as the information you have. You were supposed to be Matt's first hunter kill but Klaus went a little murder crazy on Damon. Don't worry, I'm going to give him a thorough talking to so he'll know not to make that same mistake again,"

"You've been dreaming things you can't explain again, haven't you?"

How did he know this? Bonnie only watched him carefully.

Shane choked a chuckle out. "You should've let them kill Damon. You should have killed Damon. We all need him out of the way,"

"And why is that?" She leaned closer as Shane slowly did as well, then he jerked so suddenly Bonnie jumped.

"Get me out here and I'll take you to the reason why," he said with a hiss.

"No promises, but I'll see if Klaus will still find you useful. So this intel better be good,"

She gave him a blood bag as a show of good faith.

"Now tell me… what do you know about the dreams? What do they have to do with the cure?"

~Later~

Bonnie and Abby walked into The Grille, both still stunned with what they learned from Shane. Klaus was at the bar having a gay old time with his eldest brother and it was nice to see him getting along with his siblings. They each smiled when they noticed Bonnie and Abby walk in. Klaus waltzed over with a drink in hand and raised it in a toast to them.

"The lovely Bennett witches. My, what a pleasure it would be if you both weren't wearing such long faces. I'm left to guess your effort at getting information from Professor Shane was yet another useless endeavor," his smile faded into a glare as he kept talking. He put the glass down and glowered at Bonnie.

"His secrets will die with him," Bonnie shrugged, shaking her head in dismay. "I guess you were right, he's just been wasting space since he won't talk,"

"This is the last time I will ask you. What were you trying to get out of him?"

"Anything about the cure, we can't even see Matt's damn tattoo,"

"And he killed all those hybrids at the funeral the other day," Abby said, snatching Klaus's glass for herself. He turned his death glare on her. "Don't even think about it, hybrid. I'll aneurysm you until you die,"

"You can get rid of Shane, Klaus. I can always try to get Matt on my side," Even Bonnie wanted to laugh as soon as she said it, but it was worth a shot.

"I will take that to mean you're ok with me strong-arming the hunter into assisting. In the meantime, my urge to kill is getting hard to ignore. Better I take it out on someone useless instead of our lovely townsfolk,"

Klaus turned and nodded to Finn before he stormed out of the restaurant. Abby snickered as she finished his drink before she sobered and pulled out her cellphone.

You know what we have to do, right? She typed on the screen and showed it to Bonnie.

Bonnie nodded. "I know," she whispered. "Just let me talk to Matt, I think I-" she paused when she noticed Matt leave the bar and tell Finn there was vervain in his newly poured drink, that the last vervain-free drink was his previous one.

"I ingest it daily, it will not be a problem for me," Finn insisted.

"It's a strong dose, you might want to drink it outside if you really want to get it down. It might rouse suspicions,"

Finn agreed reluctantly and Sage followed them out the side exit. Something wasn't right, Matt wouldn't just go up and talk to an Original, not without Elena around. Having to follow at a human pace since the human public was everywhere, Bonnie went outside just in time to see Finn choking on the drink while Matt threw vervain water on Sage before he plunged- a white oak stake - into Finn's chest.

Sage howled a doubly agonized scream and lunged at Matt after watching Finn collapse and burst into flames.

"Get her, she can't kill him, he's a hunter!" Abby yelled.

Bonnie zipped over just in time and Abby used magic to restrain the distraught vampire so Bonnie could hold her back.

"Sage, no, the hunter's curse, remember?" She tried to gently soothe her.

"I don't care!" Sage wailed in Swedish, reaching for Finn's burning corpse. She struggled until Abby twisted her fist, resulting in a hands-free neck snap.

"Matt, what did you do?!" Bonnie shrieked.

Two weeks later

~Out on a walk~

As Kol turned down the doppelgänger's street, his cellphone rang. To his annoyance, it wasn't Bonnie but a call from Elena Gilbert. No doubt calling to continue her declamation of how the need for the cure was important in keeping nameless vampires safe, among other things Kol couldn't care less about. His only priority was keeping Bonnie safe, as his vampire. Though she was a powerful and formidable witch, her martyr complex would send her fragile human form into too many dangerous situations, likely to her death. Kol wouldn't have it. Something Elena would come to understand. Although if she didn't, she could meet the end of a pointy stake again, and join her brother in the land of the dead.

"Elena Gilbert. To what do I owe this blatant inconvenience and interruption to my otherwise splendid day?" His enunciation of inconvenience earned him Elena's disgusted scoff as he suspected it would. When it came to people he found distasteful, there was nothing he enjoyed more than annoying anyone who vexed him and Elena was a perfect target for it.

"I just wanna talk, that's all. No threatening, no fighting, none of that. I just want an open and honest conversation about the cure." she said, in her irksome rasp.

"If we're being honest, then tell me, Elena. Aren't you still convinced I've killed young Jeremy?"

"Honestly, yes. I do think that. Buuut,"

"I didn't. I would proudly admit it if were me, considering the way he's treated my girl,"

He could hear Elena's eyeroll. "I'm willing to put our differences aside, no matter how deep they run, Kol."

Kol stopped in front of a home on the street and sped to the door. "Then invite me in." he rang the doorbell to Elena's home. He heard her gasp and whispers ensued between her and her incorrigible Salvatore lover. "Hello? Are you going to invite me in so we can have a proper chat, or are you biding your time to try and figure a way out of this? Are you not the one who wanted to have this discussion?"

The door opened and there stood the doppelganger. It was always equally fascinating as well as vexing each time he saw that face because it was soft and innocent like Tatia's, before she was corrupted by his brothers, at the same time her expression would switch to vapid and catty like Katerina's. Only this face was the one that incited Kol's anger the most due to her lopsided morals and the fact she went around preaching about what it means to be a good friend, a good sister. In Kol's eyes, she lacked true values except for that which rendered her truly selfish. Her only loyalty was to her own cause, and it was what made Kol want to kill her everytime he looked at her, everytime she spoke, everytime she attempted to make it seem like she only looked out for Bonnie. He wished to end her sham facade one day. Only he was certain Bonnie would have some emotions on that and he had sired enough away.

"Invite me in," he repeated.

~Inside~

Once inside, and standing at her kitchen island, Elena pulled out the indestructible white oak stake. What she thought she was going to do with that, Kol was uncertain. It certainly wasn't going in his chest. He was already bored of entertaining the doppeltwit's false notion of peace talks, especially with Damon's surprise attack. But it only landed the toddler vamp in a crumpled heap on the ground.

"I'm willing to give this up," she put the stake down on her dining table. "But we can't stop hunting for the cure. If Esther's plan works- and let's be real, it looks like it's going that way, Kol- then there are vampires who are going to need that cure. I love my boyfriend and I don't want to lose him when it can be prevented. I don't wanna lose Caroline, or Bonnie…"

"You don't want to lose Bonnie? You've done that already, don't you remember? When you chose to immerse yourself into your relationship with the Salvatore bloke. But that's your prerogative, I suppose,"

Kol leaned back in his seat. "Silas cannot be allowed to rise. I've taken your argument under advisement. Unfortunately, your request is denied. So it looks like we have come to a stalemate. There is no changing my mind, Elena," in a flash, he reached for the indestructible white oak stake. Only, he found it held little weight. It was a decoy!

"Yahh!" Elena cried, flinging her cup of vervain tea at him. As it burned him, Elena pulled out the true white oak stake and jabbed at Kol with it. Kol recovered quickly from the burn and grabbed Elena's arm, twisting it backward, and gripping it so hard she dropped the stake, which Kol quickly caught.

"Elena," he whispered in her ear from behind. Kol was debating on what would be the most painful way to kill her, he wanted to make sure he hurt her extra for all the ways she and her despicable excuse of a brother tormented Bonnie. He decided that disembowelment would bring about the most pain. Only that would be too messy and he might try to end her for good. He wanted to keep his promise to Bonnie, he truly did! It wouldn't be for very much longer… "This is the last time I will ever entertain the thought of a truce with you,"

"No," she whimpered, shaking her head furiously. "Damon," she looked over to where Damon was still knocked out in the kitchen.

Kol stabbed her all the way through to her stomach from behind with the white oak stake, but, to his disappointment, she succumbed to her temporary death before she hit the ground.

"Do you really have to make it all about you? I can't even properly enjoy your demise," he muttered. Elena's expression was frozen in a death mask with her eyes open as Kol dragged her by her legs across the floor. He laid her next to Damon, putting them in a spooning position, amused at the state Damon would find Elena in when he woke.

~Two weeks ago~

With tears streaming down her eyes, Bonnie marched into her room at Gram's and poured the blood into Kol's mouth, figuring an ample amount of blood would wake him. The color seeped back into Kol's skin, slowly. His eyes opened and his hands clamped and squeezed the blood bag, sucking down every last drop. Then he crumbled it in his hands, tossing it aside.

"Why the tears, love? Are you anticipating a bloody fate for your mother?"

Bonnie huffed and pushed him on his back, straddling his waist. "Hi, babe, I've missed you too," she said with a sneer before she leaned forward and slipped her hands around his back as she rested against his chest.

"What's this?" Distractions weren't going to let Abby off his radar, though they would buy her some time before he showed her just how weary he was of her fuckery.

"I need a hug and you need to curb your beef with Abby," Bonnie said with a sniffle.

Kol mentally rolled his eyes. He wouldn't truly hurt her beyond repair, but it was about time Abby tried taking what she dished out. "You know it's all part of our game. She torments me, I torment her,"

"Finn is dead. And so is Sage and Lexi," Bonnie said as she looked at the wall with her cheek resting on Kol's hard pecs. In a split second, Bonnie was on her back with his hands cradling her chin tenderly.

"Who is Lexi and why does her death have you so distraught?"

The fact that he asked about Lexi instead of primarily inquiring about what happened to Finn stirred something in Bonnie. Was Kol actually showing compassion? Did being siphoned take away some of his selfishness?

Kol didn't know why he'd asked that first, he just knew he couldn't stand the despondent demeanor that had confiscated her usual disposition. He was confident she'd apprise him soon enough of the details of the eldest Original's demise.

"You met her once, in the gym the night of the game when you and Abby were prosecuting Elena's brother,"

"With Bonnie,"

"Huh?"

"With Bonnie, who wasn't invited. You each told me that's who she was, with you. That's what I remember her as,"

"That was Lexi, Stefan's best friend. I witnessed Matt attack Finn right outside of The Grille tonight. Then I got my ass handed to me for trying to get Sage to calm down enough for me to go ask the Salvatore's what the hell, but Sage just wanted the smoke until she dropped dead too," Bonnie winced, thinking of how distraught and erratic Sage was, almost tearing her limbs off. She supposed that's what would happen to any vampire who'd only recently been reunited with their mate after nearly a millennium. "When I made it to the boardinghouse, I heard Stefan on the phone with Lexi's husband, who said she'd just dropped dead. The same thing I'd just seen happen to Sage,"

"And how did the hunter gain the advantage over Finn?" Many a time he'd sparred with Finn, due to the duo bumping heads constantly. It may have been the age gap and how seriously his brother took himself but Kol found great amusement in aggravating him, even as a vampire which often caused them to come to blows. Finn was a formidable opponent, even for Kol so it perplexed him that a teenaged, newly activated hunter had been able to best him. There had to be treachery of the doppelgänger persuasion afoot.

"They had Matt spike his drink and lure him outside. That's when I realized something was wrong and by the time I got out there, he was up in flames a second later,"

"They being…?"

"Who do you think?"

Elena. Salvatore's. Of course!

"They're still in the boardinghouse, not giving up the stakes or releasing Elena. But at least now they know what happens when you kill an Original," another round of tears rolled down her eyes. Lexi didn't deserve this shit, she was one of the most ancient and benevolent vampires around.

"Then we shall go torch the entire property," Kol said, hoping it would put a smile on her face. It didn't of course, Bonnie had to learn to tap into her diabolical side, especially if she was to be his vampire. A Mary Sue vampire in his care would never do and he knew she had the darkness in her. She only fed on its energy.

Kol got up and zipped towards the door of her room before he was stopped short as if an invisible rope anchored him to the room.

"What the hell is this?"

His irritation grew when Bonnie explained Abby cast a spell tethering him to Bonnie so he could only go as far as she decided to. "And we aren't going to torch the place, but… You were right,"

Kol faced his baby vampire, who stood up. Of course he was right, about just what he wasn't sure so he waited for Bonnie to tell him.

"About Elena, Damon. Damon is still hell bent on trying to kill us and Elena claimed she wants peace, yet she didn't do jack shit to stop them, she helped Finn to his death!" She walked up to Kol and took his hands again. "He tried to kill you, me, and he even attacked my mom. So I'm telling you, I know you're pissed at her, but do not hurt Abby. If anyone is going to kill Damon, it should be me. Lexi was my friend too, and he got her killed. They all did,"

That is what he'd been waiting to hear. He smiled softly, yet he didn't want Bonnie to believe it was that simple to appease his bloodthirsty appetite. He was sure she still had lingering friendship woes over Elena. "What about the aftermath? I'm certain the doppelbitch and the brooding brother will be part of an interesting fallout,"

"They'll find their way back to each other again, for comfort, when Stefan gets his humanity back,"

Kol wasn't going to like hearing that she needed them alive, but she needed to get to the bottom of the dreams she'd had involving Stefan and Elena. Before her vampire transition, Bonnie often had prophetic dreams. It was how she reconnected with Abby and inadvertently invited a whole Original family reunion. According to Shane's very useful intel, it had something to do with Stefan and Elena being soulmates. Somehow it involved Bonnie, a fact which placed her between a rock and a hard place, since recent happenings were making the lines drawn out clearly. It was Bonnie and the Originals vs Team Salvatore and Elena and two childhood friends were on opposite sides.

"Back?"

"I'll have to explain later," Bonnie nodded and shifted her footing, putting her hands on her hips. "This is just between me and you. But I have a theory that if Damon dies, Stefan will shut it off, block out his emotions because he can't handle being without his brother. What if he's emotionless while Damon is still alive? He has so many reasons to be pissed at him and not give a shit until something bad happens to him,"

"This idea is derived from your own wicked imagination?" He asked, understanding where she was going with this.

"Mhmm. Do you like it?"

The words I love you nearly slipped out of his mouth so he rushed over and kissed her instead, so hard, her knees weakened. Kol loved that with just a kiss, he could spur her desires that were incredibly heightened now that she knew what it was like to be bedded by him. It was something he would not take for granted.

"I love it," he murmured before he continued his oral caress.

Bonnie moaned and pulled away, knowing she'd be floating in a moment. "Wait, there's more!"

Though he wanted to silence her with his continued exploration of her mouth, he exercised a great deal of patience as he waited for her to continue.

"So with Finn dead, and all his sired vampires gone with him, Matt's hunter mark is completed. I promised Klaus he could have Shane once I was done with him, so they're going to find the cure and before you say anything, Abby may have a way to get the cure without raising Silas. Shane's dead anyway and he's the only one who wants to raise him. But since siphoning didn't work, Abby wants the cure. Klaus also wants it for Elena. Who we aren't touching, by the way,"

Well, the plan started off good enough. Now it took a clear turn to hell. "So he can go back to making an army of hybrids who inevitably turn on him? A fool's mission," he clicked his tongue before he grabbed Bonnie's hand and flashed her downstairs.

Bonnie stiffened as he tried to nudge her through the front door, yet she wouldn't budge. If only he would let her finish her briefing, she thought with a mental facepalm.

"Stop this! It won't work and we must go, now!"

"I can't," She muttered and blew a breath out in a long sigh. Kol switched their positions and attempted to step through the door. He found there was a magical barrier preventing him from leaving. He snapped his head towards her. "I told you,"

"Bonnie Bennett," he said as he shut the door, advancing on her and trapping her with his palms pressed to the door. "Why are you doing this?"

"You didn't let me finish. We aren't touching Elena. With Damon gone, she's probably gonna switch it off as well. But there won't be an emotional switch if she's human again," she lifted her eyebrows, prompting him to understand. "So we're currently waiting for Abby, Klaus, Rebekah and Matt to return with the cure,"

Bonnie had that determined look on her face. After the hunter's curse and Abby's siphoning, Kol was none too pleased about being the one to create more tension between them, though he couldn't just let Bonnie make foolish and dangerous decisions. At the very least, she intended to take out the elder Salvatore, and that they could agree on. But was there really a way to retrieve the cure without raising Silas? He would need more information from Abby and if she was unwilling to talk, it would only prolong the progress of getting Damon out of the way, as Kol understood Bonnie meant to be strategic about his demise. Except the excursion for the damned thing was already taking place!

Bonnie bit her lip and went for her seduction technique, running her hands up his chest. "Think about it. Humans don't have humanity switches the way vampires do. We'd be effectively killing two birds with one stone and Elena and Stefan will be there to hold each other up. All we need is one very sexy and persuasive Original to compel the Ripper to turn it off once we have the cure,"

"Persuasive?" Kol scoffed and backed up. "I've never persuaded you to do a bloody thing, love. It's you who's used all your persuasion tactics on me," He leaned closer to whisper in her ear. "If it were up to me, we would have bathed in Damon's blood and feasted on the evil that is the Gilbert family, spitting out their bones when we've had our fill, the very day you were turned,"

"But wouldn't it be so satisfying to watch something play out exactly as you predicted?"

"As I've accurately implied. You are a master in the art of persuasion,"

"It's a night spell," Bonnie said, grazing her fingertips along Kol's cheek. He instinctively nuzzled her hand. "We can go at dawn. I'm sure there's something you can persuade me to do until then," her hand locked around his neck and pulled him down until their lips connected. Her kiss was fierce and demanding, and she knew Kol wouldn't be able to resist her charms for the rest of the night. She thought of suggesting the silk scarves but she wasn't sure she was ready for that. The mere thought made her blush profusely.

He pressed his forehead and sighed. "And when does the reconnaissance team return?"

"The day after tomorrow,"

"I will compel the Ripper,"

"And be my date to prom," she smiled up at him.

There was something different about her. Kol couldn't quite put his finger on it but it gave him faith that what was happening between them had the ability to grow.

"You're surprisingly chipper about all of this. You're about to turn Elena's world completely upside down and it's not affecting you with guilt,"

Bonnie nodded assuredly. "I'm just ready to bury yesterday. Our friendship has been dead and the funeral is over,"

"So it is. Now the true fun begins," He lifted her into his arms and shot up the stairs.

AN: I had a comment on the last chapter, that things were getting redundant in a way that wasn't making sense, or something like that. Had to check back and make sure this story is doing what it's supposed to do, and I did. I made sure.

If y'all don't trust me, please, have some faith! I'm doing this because I think it's an interesting story and I hope you do too. I have a vision and this is going exactly the way I intended it, for Bonnie and Kol to come together amidst a lot of complications they needed to work out. And things they both need to realize about themselves and each other. This is my main ship so it's taking some time to cement them that way Kennett will prevail over the other planned ships. (Check the tags!)

This chapter had a lot to do with the breaking down of her childhood friendship for good. Will there be an adjustment period or will she just completely fall all into Kol or try to find a new bestie? Maybe she'll get twice as close with Caroline or Rebekah, or maybe she'll push everyone away and try to reconnect with her actual family. Or maybe she'll give in to the love/hate thing with Klaus HEHEHE

What will putting herself first look like when someone is so broken and hurt from her day one's?

Any typos or errors in continuity I will hunt down as I read this back. Please add comments, kudos, and share if you are enjoying! Also I may be putting up the current chapters posted on Wattpad this weekend, I love the comment or react on each paragraph feature lol

Also, I hate everything because I forgot to add in the blood exchange part of the vamp on vamp sex when Bonnie and Kol got down to it. I will address that in the next chapter, I came up with a good reason!
