Harry Potter and the Wishing Well

/

Prologue:

Tuesday 31st August 1971

Cokeworth, Mill Town.

It was a hot summer's day in Cokeworth, England. The sky was bright blue but the air had a blissful cool breeze that swayed fluidly through the grass and trees.

This was unusual for the city itself as most of it usually looked dreary and ominous but today the entire city looked light and graceful away from its industrial look.

On the outskirts of the city was Mill Town. The town, that was just past Spinners End was small but consisted of a large meadow and a placid lake with a small village of beautiful cottages and shops.

In the meadow were two little girls.

"You can't catch me." Said the little mixed-race girl with light pink hair running through the brightly coloured meadow. The other little girl with pale skin and long red hair chased after her all the while smiling and laughing.

"I'm gonna get you." Called out the voice of the little redhead, sprinting after the pink haired girl.

The two ran through an array of different coloured flowers while the first girl zig zagged from left to right to avoid the redhead from catching her.

Sweet laughter filled the air as they kept running when suddenly the second girl tripped over and fell.

"Ow!" Cried the little redhead.

The other girl stopped in her tracks and turned back to see what had happened.

"Lily!" Shouted the pink haired girl in concern and came sprinting back over.

Lily sat on the grass gripping her right knee in pain. The other girl arrived and knelt before her.

"Are you ok?" She asked worriedly.

"No, I grazed my knee. I think I fell on a rock." She hissed out in pain.

"Here let me help you." Said the pink haired girl sweetly.

She took both of Lily's hands and removed them from her knee revealing a bloody gash with blood trailing down her leg. The girl took her right hand and rubbed it into her left hand before a golden light materialised from the palm of her right hand. She put her hand over the cut and suddenly the gash was healed.

The golden light from her palm disappeared and the girl's eyes shifted to the blood that was still on Lily's leg. She took her right hand again flicked it in a wiggling motion and the blood disappeared entirely leaving Lily's leg clean.

"Thanks, Minksy." Said Lily with a bright smile.

"Your welcome Lily. Is it better now?" Minksy asked still concerned.

"Much. I should have been looking at what I was doing but you made my boo-boo all better now. So, with that being said. IT!" Said Lily jumping on top of Minksy.

Minksy gave a little scream as the two girls landed on the grass before they both fell into a fit of giggles. A moment later Lily decided to roll herself off of Minksy but the two girls stayed laying down on the grass whilst looking up at the sky. Minksy slipped her hand into Lily's and for a while they just laid their content.

Finally Minksy spoke.

"I'm gonna miss this. I'm gonna miss you. I think I'm even gonna miss Severus and miss all his little sniping remarks. I wish I didn't have to go." Said Minksy miserably whilst turning to look at Lily.

"So don't go. I don't understand why you have to go. You have a life here too. You have family and friends here." Said Lily fiercely whilst turning to look at Minksy.

"Lily you're my only friend here." Said Minksy with a chuckle.

"And Severus." Said Lily with a sly smirk.

"Severus only likes you. He just tolerates me." Said Minksy with an amused smile.

"That's not true and you know it. He's just finds it hard to connect with other people and you know why. Besides he always asks if you're coming out to play." Said Lily kindly.

"Yeah so he can argue with someone." Retorted Minksy.

"Exactly." Said Lily with another sly smirk.

Minksy chuckled as she thought about the relationship she had with Severus Snape. The two had met when they were eight years old. Lily had introduced the two after six months of knowing him and a year of knowing her. Minksy had actually not known that Lily was a witch when she first met her, strangely enough. No accidental magic had happened between them when they had first met.

It was Severus that had told Lily what she was and Lily had revealed to her that she was a witch but she hadn't told her that Severus had been the one to tell her.

Minksy had been extremely surprised at the revelation that her first and only friend was a witch but Minksy had also been very happy to learn this information as well. She in return revealed to Lily her own special secret, making their friendship even more sacred in her opinion.

Lily began to form a friendship with Severus on her own before she felt ready to introduce the two.

They both had magical secrets that they revealed to one another through Lily's entrusted confidence.

When they found out each other's secrets, they began talking about their differences and Minksy found that she didn't appreciate Severus's attitude in thinking that he and Lily were superior to her.

Ten minutes after meeting each other, they had gotten into an argument over their differences. It was so bad that Lily had to trick them into seeing each other again and forced them to apologise to one another.

Things had been very awkward for the trio for the longest while but eventually the two got into a place where they could tolerate each other's presence for the sake of Lily. They often would get into debates about magic but it was never as bad as their first one.

Both kept civil because Lily had asked them too. A few months into this relationship, things turned somewhat lighter where the two could even talk to each other whilst waiting for Lily to come out and play.

Severus and Minksy found their strongest bond through their common ground of protecting Lily and disliking Petunia.

Lily's sister had become somewhat awful over the last three years after learning that Lily was a witch. Petunia had never liked Minksy but her animosity towards Lily had become worse when Severus had entered the picture and the two would often put on a united front whenever Petunia tried to bother them.

Lily never seemed to take notice of the growing animosity between the two parties or perhaps she did and chose to ignore it.

Petunia grew cold and distant with Lily and sometimes when it became too much for her to bear, Minksy and Severus would put their own differences aside and come together to make her feel better.

Minksy wouldn't have exactly classed herself and Severus as friends but merely acquaintances who could play together. Yet she still found that she would miss him. Lily and Severus outside her family were the only people who knew the real her and soon she would be leaving them behind.

"Yes well I suppose I'll miss our little spats too." She said dejectedly.

"This is so unfair. Why do you have to go? Why does it have to be you?" Said Lily angrily.

"You know why Lily." Said Minksy sadly, whilst looking away from her red headed friend.

"It's rubbish! It's completely stupid. Can't you stay?" Said Lily tearfully.

"I want too but I can't. I have a duty to fulfil." Said Minksy also tearfully.

"You're eleven Minksy. Your supposed to be able to live your life freely. Why don't you ask to come to Hogwarts with me and Sev?" Said Lily sitting up and looking at her seriously.

"My name's not Petunia, Lily and you saw the response that she got. Why would I be any different?" Said Minksy looking away from Lily once again.

"That's different Minks! She's not magical. You are!" Huffed Lily crossly whilst folding her arms.

"Please don't be mad at me Lils." Said Minksy now also sitting up looking nervously at Lily.

"I'm not mad at you Minks. I'm mad at them. They're taking away my best friend and my second sister. When before they didn't even care." Roared Lily whilst fully bursting fully into tears.

"Lily please don't cry." Said Minksy grabbing one of Lily's shoulders.

"I can't help it. I don't wanna lose you. Tomorrow I'm gonna go to Hogwarts and when I come back, you're not gonna be here anymore." Said Lily sorrowful.

"Your not gonna lose me Lils. At least not fully." Said Minksy firmly.

"What are you talking about?" Asked Lily curiously whilst the tears still streamed down her face.

"That's why we're here today. Come on I have something to show you." Said Minksy getting up from her spot on the grass.

She held her hand out which Lily took and stood up. Minksy then proceeded to walk forward with Lily in tow, her tears beginning to cease. They journeyed toward the large oak tree on top of the hill. Minksy removed a piece of bark from the base of the tree revealing a large blue bag hidden in a hole.

"Do you want to leave already? We've only been out half an hour." Said Lily wondering why Minksy was collecting her bag already.

Herself, Minksy and Severus would always come to the large oak tree to put there stuff in the hole so that no one else would try to steal it.

"No. Don't worry about your stuff. Now follow me." Said Minksy putting her bag on her shoulder and putting the bark back over the hole.

Minksy set off past the tree. On this side of the Meadow was the lake. The two girls walked down to the lake. There was a walk bridge in the middle of the lake that Minksy led Lily across. The girls and Severus on occasion had traveled down by the lake but it tended to have more visitors as the lake was quite beautiful. The trio quite liked the secluded greenery of the meadow and tended play there more often.

There were several people around having picnics, walking their dogs, or feeding the ducks but no one paid any attention to Lily and Minksy. When on the other side of the bridge they started walking uphill again. Lily had never gone past the bridge before and wondered what was on this side of the Meadow.

They continued walk though a set of daisies until they came to another hill. Minksy trekked up the steeper hill and Lily followed. When they reached the top, in the distance was a stone well. Minksy headed straight for it.

When they arrived nothing seemed out of the ordinary. In the far distance was a barn and field separated by a fence. Lily could see horses and sheep milling around. She realised that they were at the end of the public Meadow on the left-hand side. She wondered why Minksy had brought them here. She looked at her best friend who had put her bag down on the ground and began rummaging through it.

Lily watched curiously as Minksy took out a few items from the bag which consisted of their own picnic blanket, a goblet, a cloth, a bottle of juice, two diaries and to her surprise a small blade which resembled a dagger.

"It's called an athame." Said Minksy knowingly as she saw the startled look on Lily's face.

"Why do you have it?" Asked Lily taking a closer look at the blade.

The handle was slim and black with a red encrusted jewel below the blade. The blade it self was stainless steel but in the sunlight it almost appeared golden with the tip looking extra sharp.

"My mother gave it to me." Said Minksy in a hollow tone.

"Oh. So what do you plan to do with it?" Asked Lily feeling a little uneasy at the mention of Minksy's mother.

"Do you trust me Lils?" Asked Minksy looking Lily square in the eye.

"Always." Said Lily without even hesitating.

"Thank you." Said Minksy with a heartfelt smile.

She turned away from Lily and began sorting out the things she removed from her bag.

She put the blanket on the ground before putting the rest of the items in a straight line horizontally across the middle of the blanket. She strolled over to the well which in the middle had a bucket suspended in mid air. She took the handle at the side which she began to turn and the bucket began to descend into the well. After a few minutes of Minksy turning, the bucket returned with water in it.

Minksy grabbed the goblet and scooped it into the bucket before pulling it out with half the goblet filled.

Minksy came back over and sat down on the blanket which Lily did too and watched as Minksy began to pour some juice into the goblet and swirled it around.

"Minksy what's going on?" Asked Lily confused.

"Lily, I've known you since I was seven years old and you're like a sister to me, but when I go, we won't be together anymore. You'll be at Hogwarts and I'll be there. We won't be able to play anymore but if you agree to today, we'll always be sisters, no matter where we are." Said Minksy a little down but she put on a massive smile for Lily.

"How?" Said Lily eagerly.

"Give me your hand." Said Minksy holding out her own.

Lily took Minksy's hand and Minksy picked up the athame. Lily looked apprehensive for a moment.

"I have to hurt you for a moment but only if it's ok. If you don't want me too then I won't." Said Minksy searching Lily green eyes for an answer.

Lily looked at the athame. It looked deadly sharp but she trusted Minksy and knew she would heal her afterwards.

"Ok." Said Lily nodding her head.

Minksy took the athame and took a hold of Lily's index finger. In one quick fluid motion she sliced open Lily's finger. Lily let out a hiss of pain but did not recoil from Minksy.

Blood dripped freely from Lily's finger. Minksy then wiped the blade with the cloth and proceeded to do the same to her own finger.

"Ok put your finger over the goblet and let your blood drop into the cup." Said Minksy and proceeded to do what she said. Lily followed Minksy's lead and both let droplets of their blood fall into the red juice.

Minksy took the goblet and swirled it around again. She put it down and took Lily's hands again, crossing their arms over the Goblet in a figure of eight.

"I drinketh of my sister. My sister drinketh of me. Bound by blood, bound by unity. Near or far, two worlds apart, one we become, sisters bonded by love, so mote it be." Chanted Minksy.

A strange language then erupted from her lips that Lily had never heard before. She knew it was no ordinary human language either.

When Minksy finished, a golden Aura surrounded the two of them. It was like little sparkling butterflies that circled them in the same figure of eight they were making.

It was the most beautiful thing Lily had ever seen.

"Ok we have to drink from the goblet now, before it goes away. Just take one big gulp." Said Minksy quickly whilst breaking their hold.

Lily picked up the goblet and took a large gulp of the juice. She had been a little worried about the water and blood but the liquid just tasted of normal apple and raspberry juice. A favourite of Lily's. She handed the goblet to Minksy who also took a large gulp.

She put the goblet down which Lily could see still had liquid in it. Minksy then picked up the two diaries. One was pink and the other was red. She opened both of them to the middle pages.

"Press your finger on the right page of both diaries and make a big print." Said Minksy whilst putting hers on the left of both.

Lily did as she was told and pressed her bleeding finger into the pink diary and then into the red one.

Once again Minksy started chanting in the strange language which caused the golden aura to swirl around them before plummeting into the diaries. At first nothing happened but suddenly the four blood prints absorbed into the pages. Minksy then picked up the goblet and threw the remainder of the liquid on the diaries which caused them to glow bright gold before returning to normal.

Lily was shocked. She just about registered Minksy healing her finger. She couldn't believe what she had seen. It was beautiful and breath-taking.

"Are you ok Lils?" Asked Minksy concerned.

"I'm fine but what did we just do?" Asked Lily in awe.

"We might not be able to see each other every day but we can still talk to each other now that we're blood sisters. Even in two different worlds we'll be able to speak to each other using the diaries." Said Minksy with a bright smile.

Lily looked at her for a moment. She was glad she would have a way to talk to Minksy but she was still upset that Minksy would be leaving. Lily tried to smile but couldn't bring herself to do it.

"Lily?" Said Minksy nervously.

"Does this mean that, I'll never see you again?" Asked Lily with her head down.

"Lily if you want me to come and see you, all you have to do is write and I'll come no matter what anyone says. Now only you or family can write in these dairies. Also if you ever need me and it's a dire emergency then cut yourself and make a wish in the diary and it will come true." Said Minksy taking Lily's hand.

"How? I mean the wish?" Asked Lily creasing her brow.

"The water from the wishing well. It's magical. Most people don't believe in wishing wells anymore. They believe in throwing coins into fountains these days. Not sure why, fountains do nothing. Everyone knows you have to throw your coin into a wishing well for your wish to come true but most wishes don't come true because their coin lands on heads. If your coin lands on heads then fate has decided that your wish can't come true. If it lands on tails then your wish can come true and the guardian of the well will grant it. It's funny because mortals or muggles as Severus likes to call them believe that heads is the lucky side of the coin but it's actually tails. Anyway, there's a guardian in there. There's a guardian in every wishing well. It's because the water is magical and needs protecting. There's magic that stops mortals from drinking the water or falling into the well unless a guardian is being naughty. The water plus a spell equals a wish. Only one granted but that's for an emergency. I'll still find a way to see you without the use of a wish. I promise." Said Minksy with a kind smile.

"Pinky promise." Said Lily in a small voice.

"Pinky Promise." Said Minksy grabbing Lily's pinky with her own.

Lily smiled before embracing Minksy in a big hug and took several moments before she was ready to let go.

"So which diary do you want?" Asked Minksy.

Lily looked at the two diaries before looking at Minksy and her light pink hair.

"The pink one." Said Lily with a smile.

Minksy smiled back.

"Then the red one is mine." She said picking up the red diary.

"So, what do we do now?" Asked Lily curiously.

"Well, we could make our diaries even more special." Said Minksy with a small smirk.

Lily raised an eyebrow.

Minksy pulled her blue bag over and Lily realised there was more stuff in it.

Minksy pulled out some scissors, glue, coloured pencils, some other bits and a few photos.

They were photos that Lily's mother had taken of her, Minksy and Severus.

"Arts and Crafts!" Cried out Lily in delight.

"We can decorate out diaries and make them pretty for an hour and then we'll clear up this lot and go snag some treats from your mummy. We can get Sev out I suppose for one last argument and finally be sisters for the rest of our lives." Said Minksy holding Lily's hand.

"That sounds like a plan. I'm in." Said Lily with another large smile and a single tear that rolled down her cheek.

If her sister even had to leave her, she would at least make sure that she spent the last few hours with her and would ensure that she enjoyed them dearly.
