Flashback
Steve had just finished his first rescue mission and had been tasked with putting together a fighting team for his new missions. All the men he rescued readily join among them is a young man named Charlus Potter. They become quick friends, saving each other's life more than once. Charlus was a Brit and a really smart man at the art of war and combat. Charlus was in charge of a select group of men who Steve didn't ask too many questions about; he just trusted them to do the impossible.
Charlus Potter had been the head of the Potter family after his father died but once Grindewald joined Hitler he knew he would have to fight. He was after all the best War Wizard in Europe. Of course he did not want to have to worry about affairs at home while he was at war so once he and his allies decided they would go to war he set a meeting with his brother.
Charlus called his brother Fleamont to Potter Manor and upon his arrival asked him to meet him in the portrait room. "Brother, I can not stand idly by as Grindelwald and Hitler march across Europe leaving a wave of destruction in their wake. I have assembled a team of the best combat wizards in England and we will be joining a group known as the SSR. Before I leave however I am going to make you head of House Potter until at least the end of the War. I can not guarantee I will return or if I do that I will be fit to return to headship. I know it is unfair to ask but I can not be worried about the Wizegminot while I am trying to survive a war."
Fleamont is taken aback by this "If this is what my brother demands of me then I shall do it. I do so with a heavy heart and the hope that you will end this war quickly and are able to return to headship. I understand your reasoning and I will do my best, you know the political arena nor the combat one is in my wheelhouse but I will do what I must for this family, for my brother, and for this country."
Charlus nods "The group just so you are aware is myself, Lord Black, Lord Greengrass, Lord Nott, Lord Longbottom. We will leave tomorrow."
With the affairs settled Charlus turns over the Lord ring and leaves to join his fellow men on the field of battle. He takes with him the trusted family war staff, his invisibility cloak, and a bag with a bottomless extension charm.
The now former lords all meet at the Hogs Head and from there go to meet the SSR.
End Flashback
That next morning Steve finds Harry in the kitchen upset that he can't find anything to cook for breakfast and worried that now that other people are up he won't be able to eat. Steve finally gets him to calm down after about an hour. He mentions he found a room last night that was full of portraits of his family and they seemed to be alive. When he asks Harry if he wants to go visit them and meet his family Harry jumps at the chance. Fury had left that morning to get breakfast for everyone and to check on a doctor and a counselor for Harry.
When Fury reached out to the crown about a magical doctor and counselor he was surprised to find he actually had one working for SHIELD. He sets a meeting with this person for later that day. After returning with food he is surprised to find Steve and Harry upstairs.
Tony had spent the morning rereading all the contracts from the night before and making a gameplan for when he went back to the Goblins. After deciding on a suitable course of action he leaves his room only to find Fury with breakfast and Steve and Harry in a most unusual room.
Natasha and Clint had spent the morning evaluating the grounds for training areas and escape routes should the house fall. They find themselves back at the house just as Fury has put breakfast down.

Steve took Harry upstairs to the portrait room and walked Harry in. Steve was taken aback when he saw some of the names on the portraits and he recognized them. When Charlus saw Steve he immediately greeted him. "Good day Captain Rogers, what brings you to this my home and who is the young man with you."
Steve after getting over the initial shock "Well, see while I was in London prior to our final assault I saved our brother Fleamont and he made me High Protector. This young man is Harry Potter. He is the last of the Potters from what I can tell."
Charlus shakes his head "It's a good thing I talked to him about you then. Well Harry it is nice to meet you. My name is Charlus Potter. I was a good friend of Steve here. We actually fought side by side for a few years during WWII. He saved my life and I saved his. Of course I couldn't tell him about magic so he didn't know how I was so successful at some of the missions he needed me to do. How he is here now I do not know but there is no one I would trust more to raise the last of the Potter line than this man. Now Harry, how old are you?"
Harry is stunned by this statement "I, I am 11 sir."
Charlus frowns but doesn't say anything "Steve come up here alone soon we need to talk. That's wonderful young Harry. Now since you are 11 that means you'll be attending Hogwarts this year correct?" Harry nods at this. "Well then I do believe you should have access to the relic vault on this property. Inside is every relic any of your ancestors had. I have a portrait in there I will see you down there it is in the basement here."
With that they hear rustling outside the door and Steve turns and sees Fury there. "Did you come back with breakfast?"
Fury nods "And some other news as well."
They head down for breakfast and see everyone is smiling and talking. After breakfast Steve asks what people's plans for the day are. Natasha asks if the offer for residency is still good. When it is confirmed to be she says she is going to get her stuff. Clint mentions going home and spending time with his family. Fury has to get back to work but mentions he found a doctor and counselor who works for SHIELD and is magical and he has a meeting set up with them. Tony mentions he is going back to Gringotts to deal with some paperwork.
High Protector
Steve and Harry make their way to the basement after breakfast and find the relic vault. When they enter they find what looks like a museum. Steve can't believe what he is seeing here. They both simply walk the aisles not touching anything, simply in awe. Finally they get to Charlus's portrait. After they are greeted again Charlus directs Harry over to a wall. Along this wall are several staves. Steve recognizes one immediately "This is your staff, you always where walking around with it. I found it strange but never questioned it."
Charlus nods "That is indeed mine. The Potter line is ancient, so old in fact we have fought in every major conflict in the world. We were not always known by the Potter name, in fact that name didn't come about until the fall of the Roman empire. We always prided ourselves on fighting for what we believed to be the right thing. Because our family is so old we don't actually need a magical focus Harry. However every one of us learned to wield staves mostly so we always had a weapon. However over time we realized that our magic would amplify exponentially with the use of one as a focus. As a right of passage every Potter is taken down here before they leave for Hogwarts to see if a family staff is calling for use. Now Harry I want you to close your eyes and reach out and run your hand over the wall."
Harry is stunned by this information. When he hears he will be better he immediately complies and as he is sunning his hand over the wall one staff begins to move and before Harry even gets close to it it jumps off the wall and sticks in Harry's hand. When Harry feels this he opens his eyes and is stunned.
Charlus when he sees this is astonished. "That young Harry is the staff of our greatest ancestors. Originally it was the staff used by Moses. It went dormant until King David wielded it. It went dormant again until Robert the Bruce needed it. It has remained here ever since. It is said though no one has ever confirmed it that it is made from the tree of knowledge of good and evil with angel feather and first serpent blood cores. It should prove to be a wonderful extension of yourself."
Harry and Steve both blink at this knowledge not sure what to say or do with it. Steve didn't think any of those people were related let alone used the same weapon though it would explain the things they did. Harry suddenly gets a headache as suddenly black goo begins to be expelled from his head. Seeing this Charlus shouts "The boy had a Horcrux in his head! And no one did anything to resolve the issue"
When Harry finally recovers after a few minutes he looks over at Charlus and asks what a Horcux is and how it could have ended up in his head. Charlus apologizes for yelling "I am sorry for yelling earlier Harry my emotions ran high. A horcrux is complex magic deeply evil ironically on the light side of the magic spectrum at least as it is defined now. Basically a person splits apart their soul and sticks in a vessel. In this case you were the vessel. Typically this was done by healers who would then kill the original body to remove some sort of disease or curse then they would undo the horcrux and put the soul back. Over time some people found a way to make these vessels hold the soul forever thus giving the person some semblance of eternal life when they did this it became the darkest of soul magic and as such pure evil. If anyone at any point in time had simply run a diagnostic spell on you they would have found it and could extract it. Instead when your staff was greeting your magic it repelled all foreign invaders. This includes the blocks on the family magic. For now I would recommend you not bring anything else out of here except the family grimoire you will need it in order to pass your classes at Hogwarts as it will teach you the same spells only with your staff instead of a wand." Harry nods his head. They grab said book and leave.
