Lorelai sat in a hospital bed. Her wrist being casted. The last forty-eight hours going through her head. It was all a blur at this moment.
It started on Monday mid morning. Her and Spencer had been looking for a sitter for Hailey since Lorelai was going back to work in a couple months. She knew she had Rachel if she needed her, but she preferred to have someone in their home if at all possible. To keep Hailey's routine as similar as possible.
They had found someone. They had done all the record checks and everything about this woman was just what they were looking for so Lorelai and Spencer agreed to start her watching Hailey for a few hours a week so Hailey could adjust to her.
Lorelai was just getting ready to go out for the morning leaving the sitter when she got a call from a distraught Hunter. "Lennox. Is gone. She didn't make it to school. Another student saw her getting into a truck on the walk." He said
Lorelai's heart dropped. Hunter and Johnathan had quickly become some of her and Spencer's best friends. Those kids like her nephew and niece.
"Did you call the police?" Lorelai asked
"Yes. But I just." Hunter said in tears.
"I'm on my way." Lorelai said running out the house and getting into her car. On the way there she called Will.
"Lorelai. I know why your calling. I am on the case. We will find her." Will said answering the phone.
"Will. That little girl I love as much as I love your kids." She said
"I know. We will find her." Will reiterated.
"Okay." Lorelai said. She got to her friends place and went inside.
Will saw her. "You can be here but only as support for your friends. Do not insert yourself into the investigation." He told her
"Okay." Lorelai said she was led to the living room where Hunter, John and Callum were sitting. Lorelai hugged each of them. And sat with them.
The police and came to talk to them. Lorelai had to force herself to keep her mouth shut a few times because she knew in her gut that Hunter and John weren't responsible for this, and the police were going at them pretty hard.
It was getting to be to much when they were asking Callum question after question. Hunter and Johnathan were not allowed to be there for those questions, but Lorelai insisted that he was a minor and she wanted to be in the room. And she did not like how hard they were going at him.
"Why don't we take a break?" Lorelai suggested
"We cant. If we want to find his sister." The officer said
"And when does bombarding a twelve-year-old who knows nothing with questions help find a missing child?" Lorelai asked
"We don't know he knows nothing until we ask these questions." The officer said
"He was already at school. What do you expect him to know?" Lorelai asked
"If his parents were abusive. If he overheard them talking about pissing someone off. If people didn't want them to have these children because of the fact that they are two dads." The officer said
Lorelai shook her head. "You're done. Get Officer LaMontagne if there is more questions. I will not stand here and allow you to berated a child because you don't agree with who his parents are. Like it or not. They are damn good parents. And I can assure you if they were abusive I would know. And I would have intervened."
The officer left the room and Will came in a few minutes later to Lorelai hugging the crying boy.
"Lorelai. Can I speak to you outside please?" He said
Lorelai looked at Callum. "I will be right back." She said before going outside the room
"I said you could stay but you will not interfere." He said
"That officer is a bigot. I will not allow him to berate a twelve-year-old because he doesn't like that he has two dads. You know me. You know I'm good at my job. If I had any inkling of them being abusive or these kids not being safe I would have intervened. I am telling you they have nothing to do with this." Lorelai said
"Lorelai. You are here as a friend. A civilian. Not an agent. If you cant keep yourself out of the agent mind frame you need to leave." Will said
"Wow. Really? Fine." Lorelai went to Hunter and Johnathan. "Get a lawyer. Don't talk to the officers again without one. I'm being told I need to leave. I'm sorry." She hugged them both she went and hugged Callum and told him she would find his sister and she left and went to the FBI. She snuck in and went to Penny.
"Hey. My favorite mini agent! I didn't know you were back." Penny said
Lorelai closed the door to her office. "I'm not. Officially. I need your help."
"I know that face. Nope. Your doing something stupid." Penny said
"My friends Hunter and Johnathan. Their daughter was seen getting into a car on the walk to school. She never got to school. I was over there this morning to support them. There is at least one bigot cop working this case. I got kicked out because I wouldn't let said cop berate a twelve-year-old boy because of who his parents are." Lorelai said
"Oh no!" Penny said "Local PD? Call Will. Maybe he can help." Penny said turning in her chair to grab her phone and call him.
"He is lead on the case." Lorelai said
"And he's letting someone go at a twelve-year-old like that?" Penny asked surprised
"I don't know what he is thinking. He's the one who kicked me out." Lorelai said
"Something is wrong here. Will has boys around the same age…" Penny said
"Penny. Please. Help me find that little girl." Lorelai said
"This isn't an FBI case…" Penny said.
Lorelai shook her head and left her office and went to Hotch's office. She told him the same things she told Penny.
Hotch called Will.
Will answered. "She went to you didn't she?"
"She is pretty insistent that I pull strings to make it an FBI case. I thought I'd call and ask you instead. Could you use the assistance?" Hotch asked
"Thanks Agent Hotchner. But no. We have the entire force on this case. We have it covered. And I didn't kick her out by the way. I told her to just be there as a friend not an agent." Will said
"I figured that was the case. Let me know if it changes." Hotch said before he hung up and looked at his agent.
"This is not an FBI case. I am telling you right now if you want to go support your friends as just that a friend than fine. You do not insert yourself into this case. Or you will deal with the consequences." Hotch told her.
Lorelai took a breathe.
"Lorelai. I am telling you as your father and your boss. Do not do something stupid." Hotch said
"Like you did when Hailey was killed?" Lorelai said before she left the office and left the building.
She went to her car and sobbed. About twenty minutes later there was a knock on the passenger side door. She looked over and saw Will standing there.
Lorelai unlocked the door. And Will opened the door and climbed in.
"Do you really think I would let a bigot work this case?" He asked
"You weren't in the room. You didn't hear him." Lorelai said
"No. But I spoke to him he didn't say he had any issue with it. He said that maybe whomever took her has that issue." Will said
Lorelai took a breathe and closed her eyes.
"And now they are not cooperating. Got a lawyer." Will said
"Good." Lorelai said. She looked at Will. "They had nothing to do with her abduction. Told you everything they know. If they remember something else they will tell you I'm sure. But I know a bigot when I see one. Now get out of my car."
Will took a breathe. "I will look into your claims of him being a bigot another day. But if I have to keep you away from this case I wont be able to put my focus on finding Lennox."
"I'll keep my involvement as support to the family." Lorelai caved.
"Thank you." Will said before getting out and leaving.
She had meant that. She was going to stay out of the police work but what happened next was out of her control.
Lorelai drove out of the parking garage. She was on her way to Hunter and Johnathan's place. She was even considering telling them to drop the lawyer. She turned onto and started to drive down a country road when a truck came out of nowhere and hit the back of her car causing her to crash.
Two men came out of the truck and pulled her out of her car and dragged her into their truck. Lorelai fought with all her strength. But she was tired and already pretty distraught and caught off guard, so they managed to get her into the truck and tie her up and get a piece of duct tape over her mouth before one of them got into the front and started to drive.
