Wow, let me start by saying thank you for all the support on this new story as I didn't think it'll attract this much attention. It's only the first chapter and already 94 people are following and another 54 favourited this work. As I said in the last chapter, they'll be time gap of ten years between from when he ends up in the special region and when the gate opens to Earth, though at this point, many of you have stated that it should still be the cannon one for a multitude of reasons so that's the Japan I'm taking. For his own universe, we'll see how they care doing through the eyes of those he left behind every now and then and no, they won't be any such thing in this chapter or the next one. I will also write short omakes at the end of chapters if I find the time to showcase comedic situations if the gate opened in the Japan that Lelouch knows.
AscendedHumanity: That's certainly one way to put it. As far as we know, Apostles only have a singular mission and they chose how liberal they are in carrying that mission out for their Gods. As for which schools of magic he'll pursue, that will become clear as the story goes on.
OBSERVER01: You have a point, though I'm a bit sad that I can't make interactions he would have had with his former friends and family cannon.
Qrow454: Thank you, as I said, Lelouch is far from, perfect and he knows this. So of course he had issue with the Black Knights. This latest chapter will be more him like the first or second episode to the common anime.
Dontus –not Donut- Powerus: Yeah, I'm ashamed to admit that I don't know how to turn that off. It makes writing the names of some people on this site pretty hard.
JCarrasco: Thank you, and I will.
last admiral: Yes, that's the universe that I will use, not the CG one. As for reincarnation, no he will not be a member of the royal family, he was already a prince in his first life, there would be no point making him in this new life. I'll check out that link of yours at the same time this chapter will be posted.
mad thought: Yes, that point as been made and the decision has been decided. The gate will NOT open to the CG universe. He may have time but he does have to first get suited to this world, learn the languages and customs and then finally some form of defence and attack. So it'll be a while before he can be a badass again.
Vein Bloodborne: Thanks, that first chapter took more effort than I thought it would. And your wait is at an end as this is that next chapter.
gabekaywok: No, there has always been the one gate that connected two world together.
ewertondragon10: Well the guys as much to be angry about as this guy was the same man who sought to topple an empire for his own vengeance. But he does have his morals, conviction and resolve to him, which was what stopped him from going down the same path as Light in Death Note. The Gods themselves will have their own reactions but as they are never shown on screen or in manga (as far as I know, I haven't read the manga) their wills will be carried out by their apostles when he comes across him. Though it should be stated now that Rory will have a large part in this but in the future as he first needs to make a name for himself.
Glasrevin: Grammar seems to be my bane, but I'm working on it, my first attempts at fanfiction were much….much worse than this. Sadly, the gate will only open into the CG universe in omakes just for the hell of it but they will have no effect on the cannon story that I'll be writing.
Guest: That's the plan, I've seen more than a couple good crossover where he ends up on another earth where the history he knows never came to pass. Plus, according to the audio books, even in the months he spent with the Kururugi's, he never got to enjoy all that Japan had to offer. So going to a Japan that hasn't been scarred like the one knows would be a great experience for him.
KingZeRoPL: Let me explain that to clear the air. No, he's old world will return via the gate, he will never see it or the people he met there again due to fact that even when he finally dies, his soul won't go to C's World but to whatever heaven or hell the souls of those in the special zone go to. He will have some love in his life, lord knows he needs it but for now, I won't go into too much detail. No, he won't try to unite or rule. He has been through enough trying to help others he didn't care for. You will learn more as the story goes.
Chapter 2: Gate – Thus the Demon woke to a new world
Border of the Empire and Bad-lands
Near the Empire border town of Leona
Lelei Le Lena thought herself a simple fourteen-year-old girl. Despite the fact that she was the current apprentice to the Master Wizard Cato El Altestan, she didn't have grand desires or hopes that would shake the world. Lucky for her, she was able to find such a thing right now, which came in the form of a warn bathe. She had made a fire for herself next to the river, boiled some water and using a magic spell to create a makeshift tub, she was finally able to soak in a warm bathe for the first time in two weeks.
The rather stoic faced girl scrubbed herself carefully, to make sure she got every piece of dirt on her. She had washed her clothing earlier and they were hanging from a nearby tree, along with her staff. She wasn't too worried about her modesty seeing how (a), she was alone with no-one around to see her (her prevvy master was in town buying some new books) and (b), she had prepared spare clothing to wear while her wizard attire dried up in the sun.
Today marked the third anniversary of the day she begun to travel with the master wizard so she decided to spoil herself by going into town and getting herself something nice afterwards, though she doubted that they had any good this far from the empire's capital regions. She could admit to herself that she missed home and all the comforts that Rondel provided. But then she would recall how her sister would always be challenging her or worrying about something or another and how her prevvy master would whine that she didn't have a body like her sister's yet whenever he saw her.
Yeah, she could go another year without going back and having to deal with that.
After some time passed and she had dried herself off, she found herself wearing some simple but comfortable clothing she got from a village about a month back when she noted something off. When she glanced towards the river, she noted that the clear water wasn't so much clear now but was stained with red. She then walked closer to make sure she wasn't seeing things and to her curious eyes, she was right. There was blood in the water. Being this close to the lands known as the bad-lands, she was expecting to see blood and corpses but that was only if she and her master ventured into the Badlands themselves.
For someone that was as young and intelligent as she was. She could also recall that there shouldn't be this level of blood in the water unless the source was close, really close. Being wary of potential danger, she gripped her staff in her hands and moved up the river banks, prepared to defend herself if the need arose. It didn't take her long though to find the source of the blood and if she was honest, she didn't know what to make of it.
By the river's edge, right in front of her was the faced down, bleeding body of Lelouch, still in his emperor's clothing only know they were dirty, covered in blood and soaked to the bone. Lelei narrowed her eyes as she inspected the scene, looking around for others as this could be a trap. Finding none, she cautiously stepped forward to investigate more and see if this person was still alive, if they were then she would need some way of getting a message to Master Cato so that he can help her get him to a healer if his wounds proved too severe for her own knowledge of healing magic'.
As she came closer, she could identify that whoever this person is, she could tell they were still breathing by the rising and falling of their back, that they were quite well off as despite the condition of his clothing, she could tell that they were made from expensive silk, most likely imported and expertly woven. These observations only made her more curious as though his clothing style was something she had never seen before, someone of this assumed wealth should have bodyguards at all times, yet she saw no other bodies nearby so he wasn't ambushed or at least, not in this area.
She came up to him and gently flipped him onto his back and saw that he was out cold, which would make examining him easier as nobles and the wealthy tended to be snobs and always gave attitude whenever a person of a lover social class touched them. She looked him over….and then did so again to make sure she didn't miss anything and then she repeated her examination again. To her shock, she couldn't find a single open wound on him, even when she checked under the massive cut in his shirt, assuming to find a wounds from a sword or axe, she only found scarred skin that resembled the wound from a sword thrust, hinting that he somehow had time to recover from an attack that should have killed him instantly. Was he aided by a master healer? He couldn't be an apostle, she had heard that when they heal, no scars remained.
In fact, aside from the bloody stains leading from his nose, eyes, ears and mouth-he didn't have a mark on him.
Deciding that it wouldn't do to just leave him there, she opted to drag him back to where she had bathed, the fire was still going and if nothing else, she could look after him until he woke up before she escorted him to town. Lelei grunted as she tried to pick him up and found that even though he was on the skinny side, he was still a bit heavier than she thought. As she finally got the much taller man onto her back, she could feel his breath on her head which made her blush a bit as this reminded her of a scene she read in a book she wasn't supposed to from her sister's collection but she quickly knocked herself out of the delusion, she wasn't a pervert and she would NOT have such thoughts about a unconscious man she just met.
It took longer than she wished it would but eventually, she was able to get him back to her bath site. Lelei panted for breath as she laid him near the fire, not too close that he could burn if he rolled over but close enough that he'll be warm. Now that she was back, she took her time looking at him. Obviously, he was taller and larger than she, he could have been in his late teens if not early 20s but unlike the large majority of the older males she had seen, he wasn't that muscular or really built, she would say he was on the lanky side. Still, she wasn't a fool and kept her distance and her staff at the ready, she wasn't dumb enough to leave herself vulnerable to an older man who could have any manner of intentions for her as she had heard that rapist didn't care if you were young. They would force themselves on anyone that caught their interests. Even if she had helped him.
She had seen the aftermath too many times whenever they travelled through towns and villages that had been hit by raiders from the countryside or raiders from the sea.
For that reason, she used the spare pants she had purchased a while back to tie up his hands behind his back and set his back to a large rock so that he would still be close to the fire. Once he woke up, she would have to answer some questions before she untied him and going by his less than manly frame, he would sooner starve then break himself free using raw strength. 'I don't need to heal him from the looks of things but I'll still being him to Master Cato so he can make the call on this.' She resolved as she waited for him to awaken.
(Later)
The first thing that Lelouch thought about once he regained some semblance of thought, was how he'll get payback on that Goddess for what she pulled. The second thing was what he will do now that he was officially banished from his old world.
The fact that this was the second time he had been exiled from his home didn't escape him but he was too tired and sore to care about the dark humour in that. The pain was slowly but surely fading as he felt himself stir from his trip through space and time…or was it only space as the Goddess said nothing about time? He didn't know and he didn't have Lloyd or Rakshata present to give him an answer as though he picked up a lot about science and chemistry from whenever he paid attention in class, researched how to best use new and old weapons in ways no-one would suspect and from whenever he spent time around Nina, Rakshata or Lloyd but theoretical science and physics were never things he paid any thought to.
He knew about the occult and magic's, at least, when was considered magic or supernatural on his world as he researched all he could about geass and times in history and myths where it could have been involved. Though he collected quite the amount of information on 'paranormal', 'mystic' and otherwise weird. It was only after he raided both the Geass order and his father's personal files on geass did he learn anything of worth. But who knows, maybe that knowledge won't be a complete waste to him…wherever he was.
The first thing he felt was that he was braced against something, maybe a rock or a tree since it was harder than most furniture and didn't have that softness or human touch to it. The second thing was that his hands were bound behind his back, great, not even a full day and already someone had a bone to pick with him. He couldn't have broken a law or custom in whatever realm he was in already, could he? He was thirsty but he chalked that up to how much he screamed when that Goddess did…whatever she did to him. He was breathing fairly easily and when he opened his eyes, he saw that he was still in these damned emperor's clothing but not they were wet and dirty. He didn't feel the stab wound so she must have been right.
He had a code now. What now?
He looked around and his surroundings and found that it was still early afternoon, going by the position of the sun he could spot through the trees. Speaking of trees, he was in some sort of forest with the trees to both side and the small river running close to where he was. He was in what looked to be small camp only that he didn't see any tents or housing, only a fire with a small pot over it and a large earth mound of a container next to it.
He then noted the girl staring at him like he was an animal at the zoo, to which he took great offense. Lelouch turned his full attention to the young girl and made a few observations. The first one was that was fairly young, 15 at best and a bit on the short side. She had hair and eyes that were blue and watching him for any sudden moves, why she did this was anyone's guess as maybe she was guarding him, or she recognised him as the demon emperor. Either way, he put a pin on that and observed her a little more, neither of them saying a word as he took in her features and concluded she must be of European ancestry. She also held a staff like walking cane in her hands as if it was a weapon but he wouldn't put it past her.
He learned the hard way that anything could be a weapon if used correctly.
Deciding that he had nothing better to do then gather information on his location and current situation, he spoke up.
"Hello there, you wouldn't mind telling me why I'm soaking wet and restrained in the middle of the woods, would you?" Lelouch asked her in English, being as polite as one in his situation could be while still retaining some pride. He wasn't that surprised when she didn't respond to him but rather, she appeared confused, as if she didn't understand what he just said. So he tried again.
"Do you understand me now?" Lelouch asked her in French, as he got no response, he cycled through all the languages he had learned. After a couple minutes, he was able to conclude that though this girl looked to be European (Caucasian) she didn't seem to understand: English; French; Spanish; German; Swedish; Italian; Russian; Japanese; Chinese or even what little Finnish he knew. Which left him as impasse as he couldn't even communicate with her.
At least this proved that the Goddess was right, where ever he was, they didn't appear to recognise him on sight, which meant that he either was somewhere so out of the way, that world news took forever to get here or he really was in a new world. He leaned towards the latter as even if it he was near to some rural settlement, they should still know of him as he was sure that his picture was circulated across every form of media before he died. There was also the fact that whatever language this girl spoke, it sounded like nothing he had heard about until now so maybe this wasn't the world he knew.
For Lelei, this encounter proved to be quite the basket of surprises as she watched on the unknown man woke up, calmly checked his surroundings, and didn't say a word about his bound hands before he addressed her.
At least, that's what she thought. She couldn't understand a word he said to her.
When he first spoke, she didn't understand a single word he said, it seemed like he was asking something but that all she could tell based on the situation. Going by the pronunciations and wording, she could tell that he was either swapping whatever language he was using to try and speak with her whenever she shook her head or he was using one really complex and rather confusing language. Whatever tongue he used, it didn't sound like that of the Empire, or any of the races she had read about or encountered. Maybe he was from another land? That would make sense but it didn't really help her here as she didn't understand what he was saying.
"I'm sorry, but I do not know what you are saying." And going from the reply she got, which was him looking at her in clear confusion, he didn't understand her either. Great, how was she to ask her questions with no common tongue for them to communicate in? Neither way, it looked like she would have to get him to town and have Master Cato deal with his but not as he was, but she could fix that.
As Lelouch thought of ways he could try and get her to untie his hands, he noticed the tip of her staff…glowing, what was that? Before he could even attempt to ask her, she spoke in the same language she did earlier before she pointed the glowing tip of her staff towards him and fired off some sort of beam. Not being an athletic man, he was, he didn't have the reflexes to get out of the way of what he assumed was a hostile move before he was hit. But rather than pain or another death, he felt himself being warmed up and to his amazement, he found himself dry.
He looked towards her with the question clear on his face but she didn't seem to answer, only gesturing to his hands. He tried to interpret her message before she gestured to her own hands then to his and then presented her own to him, allowing him to guess she wanted him to present his hands to her, so he did. He turned himself the best he could and showed her his back, where his tied hands were. She then did it again, only know he could make out that whatever she was saying, it was different to the last time and within a seconds, he felt his hands freed from the now revealed pants? Anyway, he saw that his hands were free and the pants that were used to tie his hands were laying on the ground.
When he looked back towards her, he saw her drawing in the sand with her staff. Looks like they would have to draw out they wanted to say so that the other would understand.
Great, he hated charades.
(Later – in Leona)
"And that's leads to now." Lelei finished her explanation as she along her 'guest sat in front of her master. At present, they were all in an inn that the two were staying in for the next couple nights before they moved on. On the way here, Lelei noted how her guest seemed to take in all the sights and smells with a confused but curious air to him. As if he wasn't used to seeing what was around them.
"Well that was certainly a tale, Lelei. You sure he doesn't speak the common tongues?" Cato asked her as he looked the boy over and came to the same conclusions that his apprentice did about him being from wealth, even how he sat in the chair spoke of an upper class upbringing though he couldn't say he knew of the style of dress the boy had.
"Yes, I tried three separate languages on the way to town. He didn't seem to respond to any of them." Lelei responded as on the way into town, she had tried to communicate with him using languages she had only started learning and though she knew she needed work, he didn't seem to understand any of them either.
"I can imagine that coming into town with a man that seemed almost lost must have been quite the experience." Cato replied with a smile as he took a drink of his ale. Already seeing how much trouble the young girl must have had trying to explain why she had a wealthy but lost looking stranger with her.
"Yes, but the guards didn't seem to mind after I explained the situation to them." Lelei responded as she looked to the side and saw that more than a couple people were looking at them, though she could understand that their group's appearance would draw attention. She would need to change into her usual clothing later.
"I can imagine," Cato laughed as he set his cup down. "So, does our friend here have a name or should I keep calling him Mr. Skinny?"
"He does, from what I was able to learn through our….long attempts at commination, his name is Lelouch, Lelouch vi Britannia." Lelei said, which got Lelouch's attention though he didn't know what they were talking. He just assumed that they were talking about him going by the fact she dropped his name.
"Now that's an odd name, but I think I have heard of Britannia before." Cato mused, to which Lelouch looked at him now with a curious but guarded expression. "Oops, looks like I got his attention."
"Lelouch." Lelei said to grab his attention, when he turned to face her she continued. "Lelei La Lelana." She repeated the name she had given him on their way into town as she pointed to herself, then she pointed towards her master. "Cato…El…Altestan."
"Cato….El….Altestan," Lelouch repeated, testing it to ensure he pronounced it right and when she nodded her head, he now at least knew the name of the man he was speaking with. "Cato El Altestan. Do you understand anything that I'm saying?" Lelouch addressed the man in English, hoping that he might have a clue about how to speak with him.
"Looks like you were right on the money, I have no idea what he's saying." While, that hope was shot down before it could even take to the sky.
"I kinda figured. But back to what you said, you mentioned that you've heard of Britannia, is that true?" Lelei asked her master, maybe he had a lead they could follow.
"Yes I have. If I'm not mistaken, there is a large island to the north of the empire which is called Britannia. The peoples there are fierce warriors and have fought off the empire for centuries now but going by our friends' lack of muscle, he's no warrior. Does he magic?" Cato said as he gestured to the boy and though he was wearing clothing, their slim fitting nature made it pretty clear that the boy had no muscle to him, hell he probably didn't even know how to properly use a sword and shield.
"He didn't seem to recognise my spells, maybe he is used to a different form of magic." Lelei suggested as she knew that even in Rondel, there were many different forms of magic they practiced. If he was a foreigner, then the chances of him knowing a different style of magic was high.
"Maybe you're right. Gimme me a sec, I'll be right back." Cato said as he stood up and went outside to get something from their wagon. Leaving the two alone in the inn's bar area.
"Here." Lelei said as she passed him his plate of food. It wasn't much but the bread and soup should would have to serve as his early dinner. Lelouch for his part looked at the meal before taking it in his hands and passing her a thanks, though he made sure to add a head nod so that she would get what he meant. "Thanks, I think." Lelei stated as Lelouch took to eating his meal, he appeared to be hungry but kept his manners about himself and ate his meal in a civilised manner.
"Here we are." A little while later, Cato retuned to the table with a rather old looking, leather bound book. It was a large book seeing how Lelei could say that it was at least 5 inches thick.
"What is that, master?"
"This here is an old tome of mine that I bought many years ago, it's about foreign magic'. If our friend is a mage worth his salt, he should at least know something from here."
"Lelouch," Cato said to grab the boy's attention and when he looked over, he gestured towards the book. "Book….Book."
"Book." Lelouch repeated as he set aside his fork and picked up the heavier than expected book and inspected it. 'What do they want me to do? They must know that I can't read their language if I can't speak it.' He asked himself as he opened it to the first page and surprise surprise, he didn't understand a single word but he did recall seeing symbols of this nature before. In fact, as he turned the pages and checked each of the pictures, he found that they resembled the pictures that he would find in books of witchcraft and the occult back in his old world.
"Is this a book about….magic?" He asked as he looked at them but they didn't seem to get his question. 'Oh yeah, they don't understand me. But if they wish for me to read it, then the least I can do is try.' Lelouch thought with an eye roll as he set the book down next to his meal and continued to eat as he looked through the large book. Even if he could only get the sketches and diagrams, he could very well see what he could learn from this.
(5 hours later)
"Anything?" Lelei asked as her master walked into the room they were sharing for their stay. The sun had set not too long ago and the small group had decided that now would be a good time to get some sleep in. Lelouch had moved to the barn as that was the only free space for the night, not that he seemed to care as he just kept on reading the book that Cato gave him….well reading may have been the wrong word, more like he studied it as he went over each and every sketch and diagram in it.
"That's the weird thing." Cato said as he moved to his bedside and sat down.
"Oh?" Lelei asked him, he had stayed with the boy to try and see if they could speak in any of the languages he knew. Maybe they found one.
"I tried every language that I know and he didn't understand any of them." Cato revealed as he messaged his nose. He never thought he would himself in this type of situation but here he was, having next to no clue on how to proceed.
"But don't you know 30 different tongues?" Lelei asked him, now as confused as she was when she first met the dark haired boy.
"That's what I thought when he didn't seem to react to any of them but he did give me another surprise." Cato said as he stood up to go and close their window. It was rather chilly tonight and he wanted to keep warm. It seemed that winter was near.
"The magic, did he know any of it?" Lelei asked him as she faced him while still being seated on her bed.
"Oh no, he seemed to be a total newbie to the subject as we know it. But he did seem to appraise the section around alchemy like he knew of it." Cato said as he saw the boy take a special interest into the section around alchemy.
"So he is learned?" Lelei concluded as she couldn't imagine someone with no form of education being able to understand that section of the book, never mind the rest of it.
"That seems to be the case but it's more than that. It seemed to me like he knew what he was seeing but for obvious reasons, he couldn't comprehend the language gap." Cato explained as the boy would stay in one page much longer than most as he tried to piece together what was been written there before he would move on, whether or not he got what he wanted from said page, he didn't know.
"What do you plan to do then?" Lelei asked her master as she settled back into her bed.
"Why, he'll travel with us of course!" Cato announced with a cheeky smile, waiting for her response.
.
.
.
"Okay." Lelei responded, not even looking at him as she had turned to the face the wall.
"Okay? Oh come on, I was expecting a larger reaction out of you." Cato said as this wasn't the first time she hadn't fallen for one of his tricks but dammit, was it annoying!
"It's not a bad idea. We clearly can't leave him be, he wouldn't know how to fend for himself. If he travels with us, then we can at least assist him in learning one or two of the common tongues." Lelei explained why she thought it was a good move. "You also said that he has a sort of interest in Alchemy, so it would make sense that you wish to teach him what you know on the subject." She added in as she couldn't imagine that he would just leave the older boy be, maybe once they returned to Rondel, they could leave him in Mimoza and her sister, Arpeggio but until then, he would have to travel with us.
'Dammit, sometimes this girl is too smart.' Cato thought to himself before he had an idea to try and get a rise out of the girl. "Either way, came with me." Cato instructed her as he walked towards the door.
"Where are we going?" Lelei asked as she still got out of bed and started to put on something over her sleepwear.
"To the back, the boy has taken to the barn where they keep the animals to read. I think he'll do something that will leave your impressed." Cato replied as he opened the door and stepped out. Joined by Lelei some moments later as she now wore something that would keep her warm until she could return to bed.
(With Lelouch)
"Fascinating. Truly fascinating." As for the banished emperor, he was seated in the barn with the rest of the horses, donkeys and mules that belonged to the guests of the inn. He would have been offended by the fact he had to sleep with the animals but when you walked through entire destroyed villagers and towns filled with rotting corpses, you find that your standards of where you can and can't sleep will lower. At least the inn provided him with some blankets to keep warm, and there was no bodies or blood, so another plus, though a low bar it was.
'This….this seems like chemistry, rudimentary and inaccurate in some regards but….it's still similar to what I know.' Lelouch thought to himself as he picked up a piece of charcoal and added to the drawing he had made on a plank of wood he found lying around. 'Good thing that they make use of some form of roman numerals otherwise I would be lost.' He thought to himself as he kept at work trying to translate what he could into his own diagrams. Using only a single candle was harder than he thought but it provided enough light for him to see what he was reading and doing, so he wouldn't complain. This went on for some time before he felt an itch, this desire to try and put what he was looking at into practice.
'I don't know why I'm even trying this but for the life of me, there's an itch in the back of my mind. And I have a feeling that if I try then it'll go away.' He thought to himself as he looked towards the watering trough and noted that the water was dirty and brown. Maybe it was fit for the livestock as he knew nothing about how to care for such but certainly not for humans. He looked down at his notes and then back to the trough before he found this…urge compelling him forward. He didn't know how and he would only get the why at a much later point but soon enough he was standing right next to the thing. He calmed him breathe and focused his mind on the image he wished the water to be before he placed both hands into the cold, filthy water and concentrated.
At first, nothing happened, as one would expect if they came from his old world but after some time and his patience, something become to change. The water seemed to glow as a sort of…energy flowed from his submerged hands into the water. The horses, mules and donkeys looked on in awe as within half a minute, the water had been cleaned to a clear and attractive looking state. For Lelouch's part, he shakenly took his hands out of the water and saw that all the dirt had been gathered into his hands, leaving the water clean.
"(Huff, huff) I…(huff) I did it." Lelouch said to himself as he went to the side and get rid of the dirt on his hands before he returned to the watering trough. He felt as if he had ran a small race but strangely this wasn't the same physical exhaustion he was used to. 'I can't believe that worked.' He thought to himself in awe as the possibilities of such a skill ran through his mind as he bent over and sampled some of the water he cleaned, finding it to taste just as good as bottled, fountain water that they sold in stores back in his old world.
In his excitement and slight confusion, he never noticed that the red symbol of his newly acquired code, which was itched into his very being just above his collarbone, glowed as he had done this and had changed its form to increase its size, with the middle arrow part now extending down past his collarbone by about an inch whole the 'wings' extended outwards until they were double their former length.
"Did you see that, Lelei?" But unknown to him, the two observers watching him did noticed it as they watched him perform that magic spell.
"He was able to clean the entire trough's worth of water." Lelei answered, showing some surprise in her eyes as that was a lot of water, for a newbie to be able to clean the entire thing was unheard of, even if he had to gather all the dirt to his hands.
"Yes, but low level spell it may be, that normally takes others at least a week to get down and yet, he was able to do it in less than a day." Cato stated as they both knew the spell, it was one the many low level spells that most practitioners of the magic arts learned at one point or another but it was still remarkable for someone who seemingly had no training in magic to use such a spell, and for such a consider about of water.
"Is he a prodigy?" Lelei asked as she thought back to the glowing symbol on his chest they both saw through his clothing. It wasn't glowing anymore but it was left the impression on her as she watched as he went back to reading and drawing on his piece of wood, but with much more zeal then before as he no doubt wished to understand what he had just done and what more he could do. She had the same reaction when she first started out.
"I wouldn't say that, just that was enough to wind him it seems. But he does have a talent for the mystical arts." Cato said as he turned around and walked back for the inn. "Who knows, maybe he'll prove to a good person around your age to talk to, once we get rid of this language barrier." He added as he laughed to himself, it would be good for her to have a friend close to her age as though he cared for her like any of his students, he knew that he was a grandfather like figure at best.
(Months later – On the road somewhere within the empire)
"Lelei, when will we arrive in the next town?" Lelouch asked as he lay on the back of their new wagon, this one having much more space than the last one which meant he had enough room to simply rest there while Cato and Lelei sat in front directing them. In the months that had passed, they had been able to teach him at least one of the common languages. It was slow at first but after they were able to purchase a dictionary, he was able to build up his understanding rather quickly. Currently, he was nose deep in a book about the varying schools of magic as well as detailed explanations on their uses and spells, restrictions etc. he had come quite the distance in these 6 months in his magical studies as well, obtaining an understanding of the subject far faster than just about everyone else master Cato knew of, which still confused Cato
Unlike when he first woke up, he was dressed in a manner that better fit his new home. Those clothing being a light red, knee length gambeson tunic with normal, unpadded sleeves for comfort reasons with a brown leather belt would his waist. Along with this, he wore simple black pants and humble but durable leather boots. He also carried a leather bound satchel for his books, writing tools and etc. as he had taken quite the avid interest in his studies and would write down whatever he saw that could aid him. On his other side, he packed a small dagger for self-defence as though a well-trained mage could use spells for self-defence, most took too long to cast for them to be effective in a surprise attack, hence why he bought the dagger.
When he had finally grasped an understanding of the local language they were teaching him, he waited for them to head to a large settlement where he sold his old clothing for a relatively high price of around 3 Denari. They would have gone for more if they were in a better condition as the dressmaker that sold them told him she'll use it as supplies to make other clothing. As a thanks for everything they had done for him, he went out and found a bar where they gambled for money. He may have been rusty but he was willing to bet he wasn't too rusty as despite it being a totally different game than the ones he once played, he went in.
Of course, both Lelei and Cato were furious when they found out there he was but it was kinda hard for the old master to stay mad with him when he revealed that he had walked into that bar with 9 Denari and came out with 90 Denari (9 Sinku). He used the money he won to help them sell their old cart and added that money together with the cash he had own to purchase a newer, larger one. They also invested in a horse as the new wagon was heavier than the old one.
That was two months ago.
"In about two days. Master Cato wishes to speak with someone there." Lelei responded as she was the one directing the new wagon which was being pulled by a horse rather than a donkey like their last one. She didn't show it often but she did enjoy the larger wagon as it meant they could carry more and travel further than before. They had gotten them both as Lelouch wished to buy them back for their hospitality but she wasn't too sure on how he acquired the funds as it wasn't illegal or criminal but she never like the practice of gambling to begin with.
"Oh right, it slipped my mind." Lelouch responded, thankful that they could have this conversation, though they both still said he spoke with an accent.
"And yet you always remember when to skip out on work." Cato laughed as they had figure out early on that the man, they had learned he was 18 a while back, they now travelled with hated manual labour with a passion. He didn't stop laughed when they found out how poor he was at setting up camps or forging for herbs and other plants. Sure he had gotten better and even started to get some meat on his bones but he still avoided work whenever he could.
"What can I say? It's my nature to be lazy." Lelouch smirked at the two as he turned from his book to face them before turning back to it.
"I didn't think we picked up a house cat when you started to tag along, Lelouch Ja Nemesis." Lelei responded. Which going by the fact she used his full name which he chose for himself, said that she was unpleased with his behaviour but it wasn't the first time this had happen. He'll make it up for her by doing her portion of setting up camp so she can relax.
"And I'm enjoyed just about every moment of it, aside from the bathing in rivers and streams whenever we find one." Lelouch joked with her, having taken to a CC like attitude towards others in his time here. He wouldn't say it but ever since he got here, he found that he was more relaxed than he had been in years. Sure the empire pissed him off whenever they came across an imperial garrison town or toll gates but it wasn't his empire so he had no reason or desire to get involved with them. He rather enjoyed the nomadic life.
He had sacrificed too much to get into another fight with a large empire.
"Not used to roughing it?" Cato asked him.
"Not for this long but yes." Lelouch responded, having had experience living off the land during the final days of the 2nd Pacific War when he, Suzaku and Nunnally had to fend for themselves as they moved to a location where they would be picked up.
'I can't believe that it's been 6 months already. Time sure flies when you're not worried about someone finding and killing you. I haven't even made any enemies that I know of so it's not like I have new threats to my life other than bandits.' Lelouch thought to himself as he felt a breeze on his face. It was spring with all the colour that came with it but the winter he had seen was a brutal one, though that could be because he wasn't used to winter in a time and land that didn't have central heating or vehicles with air conditioning. He placed his book back into the neatly organized stacks of other books they were carrying and sat up in the wagon. He leaned over the edge and reached for his own staff.
He wasn't anything fancy as it was made for beginners but it served its purpose, being around the same length as an umbrella and was made from a dark oak. The top of the staff was different from the one used by Lelei and Cato in which it was rather shaped up the pawn piece from a certain board game he once mastered.
The irony of him having only the 'pawn' piece was not lost to him but for the first time in a long time, he found that he didn't mind. He was still a beginner, though a talented one, so he had plenty of time to grow and become stronger and better versed with magic in all its forms. He was an immortal after-all.
'Still can't get over the fact that magic exists in this world. Did it exist in my old one and just no-one ever discovered it?' He asked himself as he channelled his magic into his hand to create a small fire in the palm of his hand. Though he had been introduced to the 8 schools of magic, he had found that aside from necromancy, he wished to learn all he could about all of them. If he was still in his old world, he would have scoffed at the thought that he would become an academic, seeing it as a waste of time but now….now he found himself wishing to prove that Shirley was right and that he could become so much more if he applied himself.
Shirley.
'If I could have but one selfish wish, it would to have you with me again.' Lelouch thought to himself as he gazed into the flame in the palm of his hand, having gotten to the point where he could maintain the fire without much thought. Though as much as it hurt to think about her, he resolved to keep on living. Using this new life of his to see this world and all it had to offer, gaining strength and experience. Though there was a piece of himself that also wanted to do so for nothing else then to flip the bird to all those he had killed in the past since they wished for him to burn in hell along with them.
Either way, things were only just beginning.
Lelei and Lelouch's first interaction was based off another story but for obvious reasons, I changed most of the set-up. The fact that Lelouch knows that many languages was my way of showing that he didn't actually plan to lead an rebellion against his father he would of course learn other languages as to better communicate with would be allies and suppliers. Also, as English is the language of Britannia, you would guessed that it's not that spoken outside the empire and its areas as for one, the EU would mostly speak French as a national language due to the fact that the EU owes its origin to Napoléon. I added Finnish since I wish to travel to the country for a holiday one day.
Alchemy as far as I understand it, was a branch of science that has its origins in Greco-Roman Egypt from around the first century. In summary, Alchemy was basically a practice that hoped to not only transmute materials into other types of material but to also create an elixir or drug that would grant immortality. Some of it is based on chemistry but for the most part, it's all false. So basically, Lelouch has shown an affinity for the magic school of Transmutation which considering his character makes sense that he would a person that would be able to change the world around him for either the betterment of others or the more likely, suite his own needs and goals.
Also, the speed that he will learn magic won't be that quick as though he's a protagonist, he isn't in a game and he isn't the next Steven Strange, so he won't breeze through his studies that quick though I've already established that due to his time hanging around people like Lloyd, Rakshata and Nina that he is quite acute in science so he will pick up things faster than most and soon become a master mage with his own achievements to his name but that will happen down the line.
As the Gods of Gate were based off beings from D&D, I'll be making use of the same magic system from D&D as well but as this world isn't styled like a game like Rising of the Shield Hero and SAO, many of the spells from D&D can't be applied here.
Also, since I'm really liked the series, there will be some elements of Rising of the Shield Hero seeing how the world and setting are similar
As for the currency system, I'm using a mix of the currency system of D&D as well as how the US$ trades to my local currency as if it wasn't apparent by now, I'm not American. Therefore, I don't feel comfortable just saying that this costs this as I don't have a good understanding of how things are priced in the states so though the currency still converts to the same value that the D&D info books say they do, they may not appear to cost as much as an American would think objects or services of those nature would go for.
As for his name, there is a reason behind it as according to the lore of the show, those who follow one of the gods of the special region tend to take either part or the full name of their chosen God and add it to their own name. Rory I suppose takes the 'ro' from Emroy's name though I'm not too sure about that, if this happens to be incorrect and you happen to know the correct answer, please don't be shy. Put in in your review or PM me. One example that's kinda obvious is Lelei's middle name La, which is another name for the Goddess of Learning. Lelei is a follower of the Goddess and as a result, gained the blessing to learn things faster as we see with how quickly she leaned the Japanese language and their customs.
Lelouch kept his given name out of two reasons, the first being that like CC says in R1, he has trouble letting go of the past and the second being that he has no need to hide who he is and what he's done. He's in a whole new world so the odds of him finding someone with beef with him for his past actions are so low that he had better chances of being brutally killed by a talking coconut.
His middle name changed from vi to Ja since it's short for Janus(The roman God of Beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages and endings) He is a destroyer so endings are his things, he is a master of masks(duality) and he sought for than anything else in his old life, change(transitions)
His last name Nemesis, which is the name of the Greek Goddess of the same name[Goddess of Retribution and hubris(arrogance before the gods)] I don't think I have to explain that part, even Watchmojo placed him on their list of anime characters motivated by Revenge.
