Chapter Fifteen: Vague Backstory on Sabine...
I glanced over at Sabine for what must have been the hundredth time since we have left Mandalore less than an hour ago. She was mediating, apparently using her bond with Ezra to try and locate him. Her chopped short hair fell gently in front of her closed eyes, and well... she looked more like the sleeping princess in that old fairytale that we tell the younglings back at the Temple, than a mediating Sith Apprentice. "You're staring again..." Sabine spoke suddenly, breaking the silence without opening her eyes.
I snapped my eyes forward again, staring intently out the cockpit window of the ship that the Duchess had gracefully had given us... along with strict instructions on what Sabine was allowed to do. Apparently she had from what they could tell tried to escape the Sith, and gotten herself pretty beat up in the process. Her determination to get back to Ezra made me guess that my prediction that he had been trying to escape was right on target. "Sorry... I just whenever I hear Sith I picture..."
"Maul? Ventress? Dooku?" Amusement edged her voice as she opened her eyes, peering curiously over at me. "Not all Sith are all class or plain ugly... even by their species standards." Sabine took a deep breath, blowing out in an attempt to knock a loose strand of hair back. "Besides... We have standards, unlike Sidious and his lackeys."
"What do you mean by that?" I frowned, confusion settling in.
"Let's just find Ezra and make sure that he is okay."
I started to nod in agreement, before something accord to me. "Wait... how can you two be siblings? Your clearly Mandalorian... and he clearly isn't."
Sabine shrugged, leaning forward to readjust our heading. "My birth family disowned me the second they realized that I was... different. Kanan found me some months later, and brought me into the fold." Pausing, she glanced over at me. "I love my new family. Its... nothing like what people think of when talking about their families... but for us, its perfect."
I was silent for a while, letting her words sink into my mind. The difference between the Specters and other families most likely is the fact that they were a Sith family. She said it was perfect for them... what did she mean by that? I glanced at the coordinates that she had punched in, and nearly froze. "Wait! We can't go there! Serenno is Separatist territory!"
~Ezra's POV~
I glanced around the large elegant throne room that Bane had dropped me in the middle of. So far whoever paid Bane to fetch me had not yet made an appearance, something that appeared to be frustrating Bane if his absentmindedly scanning the room was anything to go by. Before I could try to convince him that he could just let me go, an elderly man came strolling into the room, the air of authority rolling off of him. I knew instantly that I didn't like him. At all.
"Ah... so you are the young escapee... you must know that Master does not like it when those under his command go rogue..." I snorted loudly at that, figuring that this must be the guy that hired Bane... and the comment on on master meant that he must be Sidious's current apprentice. Too bad I couldn't recall his name at all... then again he had a goatee. Annoy the Sith that most likely has orders to kill me it is! "Here is your payment Bane. Thank you for your cooperation." He handed Bane a sack which was supposedly full of credits. Wow... he actually had manners! Turning to face me, he waited until after the bounty hunter left before revealing the true reason why he brought me here. "Now then... Master would love to know how it is that you recognized him for who he is..."
"Yeah... I don't think so Goatee."
"Did you just call me goatee?" Goatee looked highly offended at that.
"Got a problem with that?" I snarked back, feeling rather satisfied that I had was already pushing his buttons.
"I think after I'm through with you, you will be singing a different tune all together." That... was never a good sign with annoying your captors...
~Sabine's POV~
Mace was currently updating the Council on everything that was going on, while I was trying to check on Ezra. With the way everything was muffled, I suspected that he was wearing force-inhibitors... which he most likely didn't realize how much harder those things made tracking him. Leaning back, I considered going to sleep since it was going to be a couple of hours before we arrived, when a surge of pure undulated pain shot through me. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" I doubled over as my vision clouded over.
I was vaguely aware of shouting coming from somewhere, I think it might have been Mace... I wasn't too sure though... Cool, if not rough with calluses, hands grabbed my shoulders, pulling me away from my seat. Another jolt of pain seared through me, sending me blacking out for just a minute. Long enough for Mace to settle me in the spare bedroom aboard the ship that he had essentially ordered me to use when tired. A cool cloth was being pressed against my forehead by, oddly enough, a clone, not storm, trooper. "Argh..." I groaned as I turned my head to the side to see Mace talking to someone else that had shoulder length dark blonde hair and a scar over his one, bright blue, eye.
They stopped talking upon hearing me groan, turning to face me. The new guy raised an eyebrow upwards, before calmly asking a question. "How is she doing Kix?"
The clone trooper, a medic I vaguely realized, turned to face him. "She'll be fine. I still can't find anything wrong with her beyond what the Mandalorian doctor found though."
"Perhaps it was her connection to Ezra that caused it. He could be in more trouble than we realize." Mace suggested, worry creasing his brow.
"You're lucky that I was close enough to provide backup. I mean seriously? Mace! You know we can't just go running off to Sereno just because you suspect Dooku of paying of a bounty hunter!" The other guy, now that I was thinking about it, he had to be another Jedi, blurted out, waving his hands wildly in the air.
I sniggered at his actions, pushing myself back up into a sitting position. "I'm fine... confused on what it was that I had missed... but honestly I'm fine." I swatted Kix's hand away from me as he tried to press the cool cloth against my forehead again. "Honest. It felt more like Ezra was being subjected to Force Lightning and redirecting as much as his pain over to me as possible to keep himself sane than anything else... what?" All three of them were looking at me weirdly, as if I had said something wrong.
"How do you know how that feels...? Know what? Nevermind. I don't want to know." The new guy turned away from me, appearing to be the most disturbed out of all of them.
"Skywalker... We need to discuss how we're going to handle this stealth mission. I'm sure Kix can handle Sabine by himself." Mace gestured to the door, ushering his fellow Jedi who apparently was named Skywalker, out of the room.
I waited until they were gone before turning to face Kix. "Yeah... I can take care of myself. No problem. I'll be fine." I dismissed him, not really wanting him to hover over me.
A/N: Yeah, let's stop here for today. Let's see here, yep we're getting close to them rescuing Ezra. And yes... Dooku used Force Lightning on Ezra (who oddly enough still didn't give him the information that they desperately need...) Sabine has tried to hint to Mace that they aren't sith themselves. Failed miserably... and yes at the very beginning there was a Sleeping Beauty reference. Too be far though, It doesn't matter what she dyed her hair as, Sabine is naturally very beautiful.
