Daenerys

The Prince was finally taking his leave of Sunspear. Or so he had said. It was today the Prince said he would be returning to the Water Gardens after he had ordered Dornish forces begin being raised. His purpose though still remained unclear, since he had not announced they were declaring for anyone.

Lord Eddard was dead now, and the realm had two kings where only a few moons before it only had one. There was soon to be a third too.

Arianne had been working on plans to place a crown atop Glendon's head, and crown him king as his father's heir, and she had her role to play too. Now that the Lannisters had killed his father, Daenerys was certain that Robb would declare for Glendon, since he would not be able to have peace with the Lannisters.

The Heiress to Sunspear had been making use of Daenerys as she prepared. Arianne, like her father, did not have much trust for Maester Collette, and had used Daenerys to send letters instead. Maester Edwyle had taught her some about ravencraft in her youth, and she was able to send ravens when alone in the rookery under the guise of sending ravens to Winterfell, while also sending ravens for Arianne.

More interesting was the tales from the Riverlands. There had been word that Robb had won two great battles against the Kingslayer outside of Riverrun and beaten Lord Tywin along the Green Fork.

Are you safe now Robb? She wondered to herself.

He had to be now, since most reports agreed he had broken all of the Kingslayer's strength beneath the Walls of Riverrun. Though he had supposedly captured the Kingslayer in a trap in the woods far from the castle, which had been confusing.

But despite Prince Doran announcing his intent to make for the Water Gardens though, he had not seemed like he was preparing to today, and he had yet to leave despite it being nearly midday. In Dorne it was wisest to travel in the morning or late nights, when it was at its coolest, yet morning had come and Prince Doran still had not left.

The plans were all in place now though.

A letter had been sent to Glendon's uncle, Stannis on Dragonstone, offering him Storm's End for his support. There had not been word back from him yet though, nor had the man taken any major actions since Robert died, though according to Arianne he was gathering swords and ships, and had sent men to go treat with lords in the Stormlands.

'He will not be complicit while Joffrey and Renly try to claim the throne.' Arianne had said. But he wouldn't have support, which would leave him no choice but to declare for Glendon.

Once they had word from Dragonstone, and Prince Doran was back at the Water Gardens, the plans would begin. Arianne and and her husband would announce they were paying a visit to High Hermitage. First it would be to Lemonwood, and from there they would begin traveling up the Greenblood to rally houses Allyrion and Vaith before continuing west to Hellholt to win House Uller. After that they would go further north to Skyreach and winning House Fowler before they would finally crown Glendon at High Hermitage.

Arianne had little trust in the Yronwoods, and the Daynes and Santagars couldn't be relied on either, but they would be able to quickly sweep through the Stormlands where most men had thrown in with Renly in the Reach, and from there it would be onto King's Landing where with Dornish spears laying siege by land, and Lord Stannis's ships by sea, the city would be there's, perhaps even by the year's end.

Daenerys would be brought along, so that she and the babe in her belly would win Robb over. He will not refuse me, she was certain.

Arianne would be bringing two bastards as well, Ser Daemon Sand, and Elia Sand who she hoped would win the Allyrions and Ullers to her cause, and Prince Trystane whose hand in marriage could be used too.

They would meet Lady Nymeria Sand at Skyreach too, who was one of Prince Oberyn's Sand Snakes, and Obara would be joining them, who along with Darkstar, Arianne hoped would make worthy commanders of the Dornish forces.

And there were half a dozen other companions that had been chosen too, though Daenerys did not fail to note the ones Arianne had excluded. Arianne often said that Tyene was the closest she'd ever known to a sister, yet she was being left behind, as was Prince Oberyn. Arianne only wanted those who'd serve a purpose on the quest, and Daenerys hoped she would be able to fill hers, and those whose presence would not cause her father suspicion.

Once they had crowned Glendon there, Arianne was certain the rest of Dorne would follow in turn, even the Yronwoods if reluctant, and Arianne felt confident her father would not be able to object when Glendon was seated atop his father's throne.

Daenerys though was not so certain. Prince Doran did not seem to know yet, but Daenerys was not sure he didn't. After King Robert's death, Arianne had sent word to the Archon of Tyrosh who had fostered her as a girl. He had sent his eldest son to Sunspear, and Daenerys was certain that might have given their plot away.

She and Arianne sat together, waiting. Soon enough when Prince Doran decided to leave, they would go to see him off, but for now Arianne was playing with her son Glendon, while Princess Coraynne was in Daenerys's arms resting.

Both Arianne and Glendon were laughing together, as she tickled him. Soon I will have my own son to tend too, she thought, wondering if she might feel the babe move inside of her. With her free hand she let it slip to her belly, and caressed it a little. You'll be my little pup.

Her son would have a brother already when he was born, since they had gotten word from Winterfell that Myrcella had birthed a boy she named Eddard. Daenerys understood why Myrcella had named her child that, and in truth Daenerys didn't bear much of a grudge.

She didn't care if Robb still named Eddard to be his heir, just so long as he married her. He doesn't have a choice though since Myrcella is a bastard. She could give him all the more trueborn pups that he would need.

Daenerys sat and waited, until finally a serving woman named Cedra came to them. "His lordship would like to see you," she told them.

Arianne and Daenerys exchanged a look. "Should I come?" Daenerys asked a little shyly to Arianne, who nodded.

Before they went, Arianne told Glendon to play without her, while taking Coryanne from her and setting her down gently so she could still rest. Afterwards Daenerys and Arianne started to make for the Prince's solar, together.

Walking up the stairs to the solar proved a little tiring to Daenerys, but they quickly found him waiting for them. Prince Doran sat, letter in hand as he often did when he spoke with them.

"It was a clever scheme you made, Arianne, though I will not allow it," he began from his seat, while urging them to take a seat across from him.

Arianne feigned confusion, though Daenerys was not good at masking her face.

"Father… What do you mean?" Asked Arianne.

"Your trip to High Hermitage. Once I had left, you meant to use it to crown your son," he said.

"Who… Who gave it away?"" Arianne wondered curiously, and Daenerys did not fail to note the Princess's glare in her direction, as though she suspected it might have been her."

"You did I fear… I know you well enough, and got the details I needed from there. You should know Lord Stannis does not mean to declare for Glendon though," he informed them. "Had he, I might have allowed this scheme of yours, but he didn't."

"Then what will you do father?" Arianne demanded, her voice full of impatience. "You cannot mean to do nothing… Now is the time to strike!"

"You love your son with a mother's heart, just as I love you with a father's heart. For that I will not fault you, but I love the both of you more than to allow you to go forward with this folly," Prince Doran told Arianne.

"Folly?" Arianne asked. Daenerys could sense a rage building in Arianne that she had never seen before. "For years you have done nothing father… When the King got me with child all you asked was that he legitimize my son so he might follow me and rule Sunspear.

"Aye… You would count on the aid of two lords who will not be supporting your cause as you would hope. You count on the tales of Daeron, the young dragon, that Dorne can raise fifty thousand spears, when in truth you would be lucky to raise even half of that."

"You would have us do nothing?" Arianne wondered, crossing her arms.

"I would not have us wage a foolish war that will be doomed to fail," Prince Doran said. "But that does not mean nothing."

"Yes it does father," Arianne told him.

"You are not as informed as you think you are, I'm afraid. The realm has three kings now, not two."

"Three?" Daenerys asked, confused. She had a sneaking suspicion who the third was, but she wanted to hear it from Prince Doran.

"This Young Wolf of yours… After he got word of his father being slain, he crowned Elia's son, to make him a king," Prince Doran answered.

Daenerys tried to imagine Aegon as a king, though it was more difficult than she thought. He was once destined to be a king, but her brother had lost on the Trident. "Aegon is king," she said, feeling a little in disbelief. "Do you mean to declare for him?"

He had to for a certainty. Aegon was his nephew after all.

"I have," Doran told the two of them.

She wasn't sure how she felt about it. Daenerys felt glad for Aegon, and wanted to support him as king, but she also knew that if they were now supporting Aegon that meant he'd almost certainly make her marry Quentyn. Please don't make me, she pleaded silently.

"Will you march our men to war then, father?" Arianne asked.

"I have called my banners… But I will be speaking more on the matter with Oberyn."

Daenerys wasn't sure what to make of that answer, other than it meant that the Prince was not going to discuss it with them. He doesn't think it important we know, which she was sure had to be important.

"But what of my son?" Arianne asked.

The Prince gave a pained smile. "He will still be your heir Arianne… All of Dorne will one day be his, even if it is not the throne."

Arianne shook her head and turned to leave, without so much as asking her father's leave. Daenerys thought to pursue her, but she knew she wouldn't be able to keep up with Arianne.

"Tell me Princess," she heard the prince call out to her instead. "What do you think of our nephew being king?"

The thought that Aegon was nephew to both of them seemed queer. She wasn't sure what to say to him. Instead she held her tongue.

"You may find Arianne will not be so kind to you now as she was," he told her. "You're a threat to her now."

"Me?" Daenerys asked, confused. I'm a girl, growing great with child. How am I a threat to her?

"Yes, you. Arianne has always feared her brother might try to usurp her, or that I may even name him heir… And you're to marry him," he explained. "You will be the King's aunt after all."

"Then why do you mean to marry me to him? I don't want to marry Quentyn." Now that Robb had crowned Aegon she felt certain he would marry her if she suggested it. I'm a princess, while Myrcella is a bastard.

Even if she couldn't marry Robb, she was certain there would be no lack of suitors for her hand in Aegon's court. Men who hold a place in their family's succession. Men who will treat my son kindly.

The Prince only smiled. "One day you may understand Princess."

"Can I go?" Daenerys asked. "Can I leave Sunspear?"

"Where would you go? The realm is at war now child, you are safest here. Your son will be safest here."

My son would be safest with me wed to his father. Would that she had a dragon that might be able to fly her to Robb. Her dreams of dragons had been happening more and more frequently of late, and Daenerys didn't know what to make of them.

"Thank you my prince," Daenerys finally said, unsure what else she could say as she left.

Daenerys felt worried. He had dismissed the fact that Quentyn would try to claim Sunspear, but what if he did? Aegon would support him surely if they were married, even if Quentyn would not allow her to raise her son at Sunspear.

She still wanted to run away, but she didn't know where she could. All I have is my despair, Daenerys thought grimly. That and my son.
