Hey, so more and more lately I've been realizing that even though writing fanfic has been fun, I get kind of distressed about uploading it and comparing myself to others and all that. Like, sometimes I see people talk about their favorite fics, and I don't ever see mine mentioned, and I know it's mostly because it's an OC fic, but it's still frustrating. If you've looked at my profile here, you might have seen that I've finished writing the first draft of Stone Cold and the fic following it, Rising Flames. As I've been writing a lot more original content recently, I've realized that I've preferred that a lot more to writing fanfic (which probably shouldn't be a surprise since I mainly write OC fic), and get to write dragons the way I want to and have more control over my own lore and all, and because of that, decreases in my mental health, and being very busy with college, I'm not sure that I want to edit the rest of what I've already written. Because of that, I'm considering just publishing the rest of what I've got, unedited, over the next few weeks, probably going to uploading around 75k per update. It is still readable, though there will likely be a few more typos than normal. I still haven't decided on this, but uploading has never been my favorite part of fanfic (it took me two years to upload Dark Seas after I'd finished writing it), so I kind of just want to be done with it.
Originally, I planned out this series to be five books, as long as a canon arc. However, I hadn't planned on each book to be three times as long as a canon book. At least at this point in time, I doubt I'm going to finish writing the series (which would be about 1 million words total, and 400k more for me to write). Rising Flames does end on a cliffhanger (far less than Stone Cold), but with the plan I have, pretty much all the character arcs in it are resolved in the first part of Broken Skies (#4), as there's a 150 year time skip after that. There's still a very big reveal involving something I know someone asked about at the end of Dark Seas that doesn't get explicitly stated until later, but most of the other major stuff is revealed in Stone Cold or Rising Flames. So, what I'm saying is I'll probably try and write Part 1 of Broken Skies at some point, because honestly I want to write that arc conclusion for those characters, but after that, all bets are off. Maybe I'll post a summary of what I had planned at some point? Unsure.
I still haven't actually finally decided anything, but I've been thinking about this for a while and just don't want to put in the time and energy into doing a lot more with this, at least for now. On the bright side, if I do this it means that those of you reading this will have a lot to binge read? And of the three, Rising Flames is the only one I've been content with once I finished it, so I think that's a plus.
Edit: Okay, I did just end up posting the rest of what I've written. I'll probably upload a recap of Dark Seas & Stone Cold at some point in time.
