Prologue:
The rain was getting heavier and the night was getting colder and darker every minute, or at least it seemed so to the two figures, the king of Heliohapt and the chancellor of Magnostadt, or simply Sharrkan and Yamraiha, who stayed outside, in the raging storm. They met on a territory of the republic of Balbadd, where storms and rainy weather were a common sight. They weren't in the city, though. They were on a large meadow surrounded by forests, trying to get to the hotel where they were supposed to stay, only to be stopped by their argument caused by the frustration of each other's company. But this wasn't their normal kind of argument, no. This time, it was more personal. More damaging to both of them.
They looked at each other with so many emotions displayed in their eyes. Not breaking the contact, even when a big thunder struck above their heads.
‚How did we come to this?' Yamraiha thought for a moment. ‚How could our feelings change so much that it was so damaging to see each other in such a state?'
Sharrkan was the one who broke the silence. He repeated himself. „I can't stand this. I can't stand letting you be unhappy with him."
Pain. That was all he could see in her blue eyes, the ones he loved to look into so much, when he said those words again.
„Sharrkan…"
He continued. „I really, really care about you. And seeing you with him.. hurts. I thought I could get over it. Get over you. But I can't."
She didn't know what would be good to say. Her heart was beating so fast and her emotions were completely mixed. The magician felt happy, because she really cared about him too, long before she committed herself to a relationship with a different man. With a man that hurt her regularly. But she couldn't leave just yet and that made her feel broken. It took her only a second to answer, though. „I really care about you, too."
Sharrkan nodded, but doubted she understood or even felt the same. „I know you do. But.. probably in a different way than me."
‚You care of me as of your family.' He thought disappointedly.
„How can you know that?" She asked in a raised voice, because of the weather that was getting worse. Their clothes was completely soaked and the cold rain made both of them shiver. Still, they didn't move, didn't look away.
She knew she couldn't lure him in while she was in a relationship, but she was selfish at that moment and needed to get an answer from him. She needed to know how he really felt.
„I don't." He replied in a raised voice and shook his head. This whole situation was ridiculous. „But even if you didn't feel the same, I just can't let you stay with him."
„Why?"
„Because I love you."
