In the main office of Cadmus, Dr. Desmond stood in the middle of the room with his Genomorph sitting on a nearby table. Desmond walked into the middle of the room where he saw surrounded by several monitors. They then activated showing bright distorted figures that were impossible to identify.
'Dr. Desmond, you require an audience with the light?'
"Yes. Very sorry to disturb you at this late hour." Desmond nervously apologized.
'Just make your report.'
"Of course." Clearing his throat Desmond explained the situation. "Well, we had a small fire here at Project Cadmus. The origin of the incident is still unclear but it seems to have attracted some… unwanted attention. Four sidekicks: Robin, Wonder Boy, Aqualad, and Kid Flash breached security. They found and released the weapon. The Superboy, of course, the clone is under our telepathic control, and as ordered turned against his would-be liberators. The four are contained and we don't believe the League knows they're here. What should I do with them?"
'Clone them. The substitutes will serve the light and only the light.'
"And the originals?" Desmond asked.
"Dispose of them. Leave no trace."
In a lab room, the four sidekicks were all restrained in pods and still unconscious from their fight with the Superboy. It's unlikely their mentors know they're here and if they're gonna get out if this then they're gonna need help.
Luckily someone is there to help them out.
'Time runs short. You must awaken. You must awaken now!'
The four sidekicks instantly woke up to see Superboy in front of them, staring directly at them.
"What? What- what do you want?" Kid Flash panicked. "Quit staring. You're creeping me out."
"Hey, idiot maybe you shouldn't yell at him." Wonder Boy advised.
"Please, KF listen to Wonder Boy. Don't tick off the guy who can fry us with a look." Robin suggested.
"Thank you Robin." Wonder Boy praised.
"Prepare the procedure for the new project sidekick, now." Desmond ordered his assistant as they walked towards Project Kr. Entrance. The assistant nodded and then walked off to take care of that. Desmond then approached Guardian for an update.
"Almost done here doc." Guardian informed.
Genomorphs were working on repairing the doors that were pried open by the Superboy. Desmond walked into the room to see that the Superboys pod was empty. Seeing that made Dr. Desond panic. "Where's the weapon?"
"Superboy? He carried the intruders to the cloning chamber." Guardian answered.
"We have genomorphs for that! Get the weapon back in its pod now!" Desmond ordered.
"I don't see the harm in letting the kid stretch his legs."
"Don't you now?" Desmond's genomorph sent a telepathic signal to Guardian's genomorph.
Guardian's attitude instantly switched from calm to enraged, "That clone belongs in a cage!" He then ran back to the sidekicks.
"We only sought to help you." Aqualad said to Superboy.
"Yeah, we free you and you turn on us. How's that for grat-"
Aqualad cut off Kid Flash mid-sentence. "Kid, please, be quiet now. I believe our new friend was not in full control of his actions."
While Aqualad said that Robin slipped out his lock pick built into his glove.
"Wha-what if I… What if I wasn't?" Superboy spoke.
"He can talk?" Kid Flash said surprised.
Superboy balled his fist tight, "Yes he can."
The others glared at Kid Flash.
"It's not like I said, it." Kid Flash said
"KF shut up! Listen, if you were in control, why did you attack us?" Wonder Boy asked.
Superboy didn't answer.
"The Genomorphs taught you telepathically." Aqualad picked up the conversation.
"They taught me much. I can read, write. I-I know the name of things." Superboy explained.
"But have you seen them?" Robin questioned.
"Have they ever actually let you see the sky? Or the sun?" Wonder Boy asked.
"Images are implanted in my mind, but no. I have not seen them." Superboy explained.
"Do you know what you are, or who you are?" Aqualad asked.
"I am the Superboy, a Genomorph, a clone made from the DNA of the Superman. Created to replace him should he perish. To destroy him should he turn from the light." Superboy explained what he is to the sidekicks.
"Even a Genomorph or a clone like you has a right to their freedom. Wouldn't you agree, Aqualad?" Wonder Boy asked.
"Yes, I would. To be like Superman is a worthy aspiration. But like Superman, you deserve a life of your own. Beyond that solar suit. Beyond your pod. Beyond Cadmus." Aqualad explained.
"I live because of Cadmus! It is my home!" Superboy said proudly.
"Your home is a test tube. We can show you the sun." Robin offered.
"Uh pretty sure it's after midnight, but we can show you the moon." Kid Flash offered.
"We can show you, introduce you to Superman." Aqualad added.
"We can give you a life." Wonder Boy persuaded.
"No, they can't," Everyone looked to see Dr. Desmond coming in with his assistant and guardian. "They'll be otherwise occupied. Activate the cloning process."
"Pass. Batcave's crowded enough." Robin added.
"Whoa, I prefer not to be cloned." Wonder Boy opposed.
"And get the weapon back in its pod!" Desmond yelled.
"Hey how come he gets to call Supey an it?" Kid Flash asked, sarcastically.
"Help us."
"You're not a weapon." Wonder Boy said before his mouth could be restrained.
Superboy shoved Guardian away.
"Oh don't start thinking now." A genomorph hopped on Superboy's shoulder and made him comply, "See you're not a real boy. You're a weapon, and you belong to me! Well, to Cadmus. Same thing."
"Any man who needs to address their place as the leader is no true leader." Wonder Boy applied to the argument.
"You shut up and you get back in your pod!" Desmond ordered.
Superboy walked away leaving the four with Desmond at his mercy.
Just then several needles appeared in their pods pressing into their bodies giving all four sidekicks a jolt of electricity. They screamed in horrible agony as the needles harvested their genetic material.
"Where's Dubbilex?" Desmond asked to find him behind him giving him a small startle, "Lurking as usual. Get the G-Genomes downloading their memories. When that's done, delete the source material."
"Superboy, you live. That gives you the right to follow your own path." Aqualad's voice echoed in Superboy's head, "A weapon or a person the choice is yours, but ask yourself, what would Superman do?"
Superboy stopped to think about that, and he reached his conclusion. Superman would help those in need, and those four need his help.
Back in the lab room the sidekicks were still begging drained of their blood but suddenly, the door to the lab was pulled off its hinges by Superboy himself. All four sidekicks looked in relief to see that Superboy has returned to help them.
Superboy threw the door aside and entered the room.
"I told you to get back to your-" Desmond couldn't finish that statement when Superboy pushed them all aside.
"Don't give me orders." Superboy made clear.
"You hear to help us or fry us?" Kid Flash asked.
Superboy squinted at Kid Flash trying to use heat vision. So far nothing red was flashing, "Huh, I don't seem to have heat vision so I suppose helping is my only option."
Just then Robin finished picking the lock on his shackles, freeing himself. Robin then jumped to the ground, rubbing his wrists. "Ahh finally. Lucky Batman isn't here. He'd have my head for taking so long."
"Seriously, that's what you're worried about? The whole league will have our heads after tonight." Kid Flash spoke the truth, metaphorically.
"I'm not worried about the Justice League, Wonder Woman's gonna be very angry with me for doing this. I don't even wanna think about what she's gonna do." Wonder Boy said as he broke free from one of his shackles.
Robin switched off the cloning process and retraced the wires, "Free Aqualad, and Wonder Boy. I'll get Kid Mouth."
"Don't you give me orders either." Superboy warned.
"Don't worry about me, I'll free myself." Wonder Boy replied, breaking his second shackle.
Superboy reached out to Aqualad and crushed his shackles apart. Dropping in a groan, he looked back up at Superboy, "Thank you."
Superboy nodded in return.
Robin unchecked Kid Flash and the rest of the group was ready to bail out. With that, all five began running for the exit of the cloning lab.
"You, you'll never get out of here!" Desmond threatened, "I'll have you back in pods before morning."
"That guy is not whelmed, not whelmed at all." Robin said as he threw a few explosives at the cloning pods.
"What is it with you and this whelmed thing?" Kid Flash asked.
"Honestly, I'm starting to see what he's talking about." Wonder Boy said.
Desmond looked at the pods as they exploded by Robin's equipment, "Activate every Genomorph in Cadmus."
With that the creature on Desmond's shoulder sent out a signal awakening every genomorph in the building.
The team along with Superboy were running down a hall to the elevator in order to escape Cadmus.
"We're forty-two levels below ground, but if we can make the elevator…" Aqualad was passed by the arrival of four giant G-Trolls.
Seeing this all of them stopped all turned around, but more Genomorphs emerged from pods behind them too.
Aqualad, Kid Flash, and Robin evaded the G-Trolls but Superboy and Wonder Boy took the moment to beat a few of these hulking monstrosities into submission.
"Superboy, Wonder Boy, the goal is to escape, not bury ourselves here." Aqualad stated.
Superboy turned to Aquald with a furious look. "You want escape?"
Superboy furiously threw a G-Troll at the rest of them. Giving the five of them the chance to make it to the elevator. Unfortunately, they didn't have time to call the elevator, so Aqualad pried open the shaft.
All of them then began making their way up, Superboy grabbed Aqualad then flew up, but something happened. Suddenly the two began falling down. "I'm..I'm falling."
Seeing his friends in danger Wonder Boy flew back down catching the two in midair, "Superman can fly, I can't."
"Let's think on that later when I'm not carrying you both," Wonder Boy said in a strained tone as he struggled to carry the two.
"Look on the bright side, you can leap tall buildings in a single bound, cool." Kid Flash said.
"I'm not as strong as you, Superboy. Those big monsters had nothing against you." Wonder Boy brought up.
"Thanks… Wonder Boy." Superboy returned.
"I'll give you my name when it's safe, I promise." Wonder Boy assured.
"GUYS! This will have to be our opening." Robin stated as the elevator above them came down.
Knowing they had no time Wonder Boy quickly flew to the sub-level fifteen door and destroyed the doors with a two-legged kick. The team quickly made their way in missing being crushed to death by more than a second.
"Good work Wonder Boy." Aqualad praised.
"Don't mention it Aqualad." Wonder Boy replied.
Seeing Genomorphs coming at them from the front the five of them raced down the hall to the right.
"Go left! Left!" Superboy shouted unexpectedly, "Right!" He said. They complied regardless and they found themselves at a dead end.
"Great directions, Supey. You trying to get us repodded?" Kid Flash spat.
"No. I, I don't understand." Superboy was clueless.
"Dont apologize. This is perfect!" Robin cheered. "We need to crawl through that vent."
"Hold on, let me." Wonder Boy flew to rip off the ventilation cover and the rest crawled in. Leaving the Genomorphs at a moment of hesitation.
"At this rate we'll never get out." Kid Flash complained.
"Shh, listen." Superboy could hear gnawing claws.
"Don't worry." Robin was confident.
"Someone, Robin I'd wager, hacked our systems, deactivating our internal security cameras, but he neglected the motion sensors." Desmond noticed the men's restroom, "The Genomorphs are closing in. They're all coming out in here." Desmond opened the door, "We have them cornered." Desmond awaited his prize but was met with only tackling Genomorphs, "He hacked the motion sensors." Desmond said as he removed the Genomorph off himself.
"I hacked the motion sensors." Robin assured.
"Sweet" Kid Flash praised to Robin.
"Still plenty of them between us and out."
"But I've finally got room to move." Kid Flash lowered his goggles, then sped to the exit stairway.
"Kinda wish he'd stay close." Wonder Boy added.
"Kid Flash can handle a few Genomorphs, let's get going." Robin addressed.
Kid Flash ran up the stairs to crash through a few Genomorphs like it was nothing. Catching up from behind, the rest of them had more Genomorphs gaining from down the stairs.
"More behind us." Robin noticed.
Superboy stopped and trashed the stairway behind with his own feet.
"We'll cut them off at sub-level one." Guardian explained as he, Dubbilex and Desmond went up in the elevator.
"We'd better, or the board will have our heads. My head." Desmond was worried as he stopped the elevator, "I need to get something from Project Blockbuster. Just in case. I'll meet you at sub-level one."
Kid Flash ran straight to the top and back to street level. By the time he reached the level the exit was closing before he could stop, "Oh crud." He crashed face-first into the giant metal door.
"We're cut off from the street." Aqualad said to the rest.
"Thanks. My head hadn't noticed." Kid flash rubbed the back of his head.
"You heal quick, you'll be fine."
Superboy and Aqualad went over to the door and attempted to pry them open but to no avail while Wonder Boy tended to Kid flash. Robin tried hacking the doors open but to no avail either. "Can't hack this fast enough."
Suddenly more G-trolls were coming for them down the hall, closing in.
"This way." Robin kicked open a door next to them and everyone ran as fast as they could only to find themselves surrounded by a large team of Genomorphs led by Guardian. Before any of them could turn back Genomorphs surrounded them there too.
The five of them were about to take arms and fists until the G-gnome's horns glowed red again sending them all unconscious.
Just then the Genomorph Dubbilex arrived in the room. "Perhaps for the sake of all Genomorphs our brother Superboy should make up his own mind."
Suddenly Superboy awoke and stared at Dubbilex in surprise. "It was you."
"Yes, brother. I set the fire and lured your new friends into Cadmus. Woke them when they were in danger-" Dubbilex explained.
"And guided me. Why?" Superboy asked.
"Because you are our hope, the Genomorph hero. You will blaze a trail for all our brothers. Showing us the way to freedom."
Suddenly the G-nome on Guardian's shoulder jumped off freeing his mind from Cadmus's control. "What's going on?" Guardian asked, feeling like he's just woken up from a dream.
The rest of the team picked themselves up as they saw Dubbilex and Superboy staring at each other.
"What is your choice, brother?" Dubbilex asked, telepathically.
"I…choose…freedom," Superboy said with no hesitation.
Dubbilex nodded and the rest of the Genomorphs stood in silence.
Guardian lightly clutched his head. "Feels like a fog lifting."
The team got back up and saw Guardian with the rest of the Genomorphs, "Guardian?" Aqualad asked.
"Go, I'll deal with Desmond." The Guardian answered.
"I think not." Everyone looked to see Dr. Desmond carrying a vial of liquid. "Project Blockbuster will give me the power to restore order to Cadmus."
Desmond held the vial of the unknown substance and drank it down. Guardian backed away from the kids as all including the Genomorphs as who witnessed Desmond's transformation. He fell to the ground as his body began transforming.
His size grew several feet taller, his skin peeled off revealing brand-new purple skin. Tusks started growing from his body, and fangs started forming.
Desmond tackled Superboy through the ceiling, "Okay. That's one way to bust through the ceiling."
"You think lab coat planned that?"
"Nope." Wonder Boy said flying through the hole.
"I doubt he's planning anything anymore." Aqualad added.
Everyone then made their way up through the hole to find Superboy restrained by Desmond. He snatched Superboy's arms and threw him to the rest of the boys. Aqualad took the hit while the rest fell back behind them.
The five of them charged straight for the bulking monstrosity. Kid Flash was the first to make a move, desmond attempted to crush Kid Flash only for him to dodge and get behind him. Superboy and Aqualand then delivered a combined punch stunning him, Kid flash then used himself to trip the creature over.
"Learned that one in kindergarten." Kid Flash said.
Now it was Wonderboy's turn he jumped atop the fallen Desmond and began punching the mutant repeatedly in the face. "You're gonna face justice for what you've done."
Wonderboy got many punches in until Desmond finally punched him off.
Finally, it was Robin's turn to step in, he threw his batarangs but Desmond swatted away his projectiles. Desmond then flipped himself over only to be met face to face with Superboy, roaring in fury, Desmond grabbed him and rammed him into a beam. Superboy didn't relate he delivered a few punches into Desmond's monstrous mug but he did the same.
"Get your hands off our friend," Wonder Boy jumped up and delivered a hard kick into Desmond's face, causing him to release his hold on Superboy. The impact was so hard that he knocked out one of his tusks.
Aqualad wrapped a whip from his water bearer and land a punch on Desmond. Morphing his wand into a mace but Desmond caught this one and threw him to the ground. Superboy was thrown into a pillar, with a piece of debris landing on his back.
Kid Flash chased after him, but he caught him this time and threw him at Aqualad who was about to launch a sneak attack. Aqualad looked up to see Desmond punch him through another pillar. The entire room shook and Desmond was sending a punch to Aqualad's face.
Just then an idea came into Robin's head, "Of course," Robin pulled out the schematics for the Cadmus building, "KF, get over here."
Desmond was preparing to give Aqualad another hit but Wonder Boy delivered the final kick in Desmond's calf, giving him a moment for Aqualad to break out. Superboy followed to beat down with more punches and put him in a headlock, which Desmond deflected by slamming his whole body down in front of him. Wonder Boy was about to fly in but he was deflected by Desmond's fast grip on him and threw him to the other side.
"We need to figure out a way to take this guy out, I don't know how much more of this we can take." Wonder Boy exclaimed.
"Don't worry Wonder Boy, I have an idea." Robin showed the plan to Wonder Boy, and Kid Flash.
Over at Robin and Kid Flash, the two of them went over a plan. "Got it?" Robin asked Kid Flash.
"Got it." Kid Flash answered.
As Desmond was giving the others a hard time, "Let's go." Wonder Boy said as he and Kid Flash raced their way back to Desmond.
Kid Flash raced over to the side of the fight and raced to land a punch to his left cheek. Rolling over to catch himself, Kid Flash noticed a piece of Desmond's old skin in his hand, "Got your nose." Kid Flash taunted Desmond.
"Superboy, Aqualad!" Robin called the rest. The two of them went over to Robin to hear the plan.
"Come and get me you incredible bulk!" Kid Flash called out to which he complied and broke the next pillar.
"Hey tall, dark and ugly, you're nothing compared to Hephaestus." Wonder Boy taunted Desmond at the next pillar. He charged straight for him, and dodge it. Leaving the pillar shattered, "He's married to a hot Goddess, what about you?" Wonder Boy flew away.
"This one and that one." Robin pointed at the last two pillars. Superboy and Aqualad destroyed their pillars.
Desmond crashed through the last pillar thanks to Kid Flash, "Sorry try again." Kid Flash taunted again.
Robin was drawing an "X" on the floor with chalk while Aqualad threw water over and Kid Flash slid to the middle. Desmond charged for him but Superboy and Wonder Boy delivered a pair of hard punches until they knocked the beast down. Aqualad charged the water with his eel talons, sending the current through Desmond's whole body.
With the beast incapacitated Robin could begin the final phase, "Move!" Robin called everyone as he rigged his batarangs to self-destruct.
The whole building came down upon them, Superboy raced to shield the collapsing debris from Kid Flash. Aqualad did the same for Robin, but Wonder Boy did the same for both of them.
The entire group was almost crushed but fortune smiled on them tonight. A chunk of debris was lifted off thanks to Superboy. Their clothes were shredded and their wounds showed. Wonder Boy was bleeding from his mouth, but he easily wiped it off with his sleeve.
"We… Did it." Aqualad breathed out, relieved they actually won the fight.
"Was there any doubt?" Robin called.
Robin and Kid Flash high-fived but instantly regretted it as they were pretty hurt from the building collapse.
"Actually, a little." Wonder Boy regretfully admitted, clutching his side as it throbbed in pain. He was about to drop until Superboy caught him, "Thanks."
Everyone then noticed the mutated Desmond unconscious and crushed under tons of concrete debris. Superboy then looked up at the moon as it illuminated the night sky. The sight was so beautiful.
"Hey." Wonder Boy noticed the piece of Desmond's tooth he kicked out. Picking it up he showed the rest, "Not a bad trophy, eh?"
"Yeah." Kid Flash answered and looked back at the moon. Everyone else soon turned back, "See? The moon." Kid Flash pointed over for Superboy.
Just then Everyone noticed that Superman flying down at them. "Oh and Superman."
"When we make a promise we keep it." Wonder Boy patted on Superboy's shoulder.
Superman along with the entire Justice League arrived on the scene. All the mentors of the kids arrived and all had disapproving looks on their faces. Wonder Woman however gave Wonder Boy a mean stare.
"Oh, I'm so grounded." Wonder Boy murmured quietly to himself.
Superboy Stepped up to the league and showed them his symbol carried by his father. Seeing this made Superman's eyes widen in disbelief. Superboy smiled at seeing Superman but he looked at him in denial. Noticing this Superboy's smile faded.
"Is that what I think it is?" Batman asked.
Kid Flash approaches the heroes and whispered, "He doesn't like being called an 'it'."
"I'm Superman's clone!" Superboy revealed to the entire league.
"And we saved him." Wonder Boy added.
The entire league looked at each other in disbelief.
"Start talking." Batman demanded.
After explaining the entire thing to the League some left hauling away the mutated Desmond. The four young heroes along with Superboy stood together as the Justice League members discussed what to do next.
Superboy looked at Superman as he talked with Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman. The Martian Manhunter turned his attention to the clone. He walked over to him, "We'll, uh, we'll figure something out for you. The league will, I mean. For now, I'd better make sure they get that Blockbuster creature squared away."
"Aren't you gonna do something? He's your son." Wonder Boy asked.
"Wonder Boy stand down," Wonder Woman looked down at her son and instantly desisted.
"Yes, ma'am, sorry." Wonder Boy turned away from the situation.
Superman then flew away then the Sidekick's mentors approached them.
"Cadmus will be investigated. All fifty-two levels but let's make one thing clear-" Batman said.
"You should've called." The Flash spoke up.
"End results aside, we are not happy. You hacked Justice League systems. Disobeyed direct orders, and endangered lives." Batman stated.
"Not to mention you all could've gotten yourselves killed." Wonder Woman added.
"Exactly. You will not be doing this again." Batman said.
"I'm sorry but we will." Aqualad resisted.
"Aqualad stand down." Aquaman ordered.
"Apologies my king, but no." Aqualad refused.
Aquaman raised an eyebrow.
"We did good work here tonight, the work you trained us to do. Together on our own, we forged something powerful, important." Aquald said, proudly.
"If this is about your treatment at the hall the four of you-" The Flash tried to simmer the heat between them.
"The five of us, and it's not." Kid Flash answered.
"Batman, we're ready to use what you taught us, or why teach us at all?" Robin asked.
"We've proven today that we have what it takes to bring justice. If you can't see it, then how else can we show you? " Wonder Boy said.
"Why let them tell us what to do? It's simple. Get on board or get out of the way." Superboy drew the line.
"We're done being your sidekicks it's time you started treating us as more." Wonder Boy spat.
3 Days later…
The group has arrived at Mount Justice with the league, the five of them were before Batman, the Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Red Tornado, and Black Canary.
"This cave was the original secret sanctuary of the Justice League. We're calling it into service again. Since you five are determined to stay together and fight the good fight. You'll do it on League terms. Red Tornado volunteered to live here and be your supervisor. Black Canary's in charge of training. I will deploy you on missions." Batman explained.
"Real missions?" Robin asked.
"Yes, but covert." Batman emphasized in his tone.
"The League will still handle the obvious stuff. There's a reason we have these big targets on our chests." The Flash explained.
"But Cadmus proves the bad guys are getting smarter. Batman needs a team that can operate on the sly." Aquaman has shown what the League has realized.
"The seven of you will be that team." Batman addressed.
"Cool! Wait. Seven?" Robin asked.
Just then Martian Manhunter walked in with two young girls. "This is the Martian Manhunter's niece, and Superman's cousin. Miss Martian and Supergirl."
The group had a glimpse at Miss Martian, her outfit had a design white shirt, blue cape and skirt, and red stripes with a yellow buckle.
"Hi." Miss martian waved.
"Hello." Kara smiled.
"Liking this gig more every minute. Welcome aboard. I'm Kid Flash. That's Robin, Aqualad, and Wonder Boy. It's cool if you forget their names." Kid Flash stepped forward.
"We're honored to be included." Miss Martian smiled.
Wonder Boy caught a glimpse at Supergirl, she looked around his age, twelve years old. She had pretty blonde hair, white skin, and blue eyes. She wore a suit similar to Superman's, except her outfit had a skirt and her cape seemed shorter than his. She caught a glimpse at him and quickly turned away with a slight blush, same for Wonder Boy.
"What about Superboy, I wanted to meet him too." Supergirl called.
"Hey Superboy! Come meet Miss M, and your cousin." Robin waved.
"I like your t-shirt." Miss Martian shifted her outfit to match the colors of his shirt.
"Yeah me too." Super Girl said as she walked up to him.
Superboy's only response was a smile at the both of them.
Robin elbowed his chest and Kid Flash sped his way to put a hand over his shoulders.
"Hey Aqualad, what do you think today is?" Wonder Boy asked to his friend.
"Today is the day." Aqualad said.
"Yes-it-is." Wonder Boy said.
Washington
Arriving at her penthouse Diana threw her bag aside and then went over to her living room couch to take a much-needed rest. Much has happened her son has fought a dangerous creature while escaping a lab, nearly dying, and joining a team of Young Superheroes. Diana wasn't sure if she should be angry or proud of her son. He disobeyed her orders, but he's proven that he's ready to take the next step in becoming a hero.
"Hey Angel, what are you doing at home?" Trevor asked his wife.
Diana looked to see her husband Steven Trevor. "Steven? I thought you were gonna be at the base for a couple more days."
"Eh, I got an early leave." Steven explained then went into the kitchen, grabbing a grape wine bottle and two glasses.
"Wine? What got you bringing the good wine?"
"Do I need a reason to drink wine with my beautiful wife?" Steven questioned, handing Diana a glass, then pouring the wine. Steven then looked around and saw their son nowhere in sight. "Where's Steven Trevor Jr.?"
"With some new friends, and got into some very big trouble." Diana started.
"What kind of trouble?" Steven asked.
Diana took a sip from her glass and then said. "You may wanna get comfortable, this will take a few glasses."
After a long and detailed story, Steven was left dumbfounded. "So let me get this straight: a few days ago Jr. broke into a lab with three ofter Superheros, rescued a clone of Superman, battled a mutant scientist, then the five of them formed a team?"
"Pretty much." Diana said, taking another sip of wine.
"I am so… I'm so proud of our son!" Trevor cheered.
Diana laughed. "As am I. Our son has proven that he is ready to take the next step but he is still a long way away from becoming a member of the Justice League."
"True, but I think he's in a good place with these other Superheroes. We knew he would grow up to do great things like you, but with this team of his he may do a lot more." Steven said. "He may one day save the world like you have many times."
"He's only twelve years old and has only been my protege for a year." Diana stated, "As a member of the League I'm as proud as you are, but… He's our son. My boy." Diana confessed.
"I know what you mean, but he needs to find his own path. After all, he isn't a regular boy. Besides if it gets too rough for him we can pull him out." Steve said.
Diana nodded. "OK. We'll see where this goes. Still, you should've seen what happened today, the Martian Manhunter was there and brought Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-el, and her niece."
"Wait isn't Kara the same age as Trevor?" Steven asked.
"Oh no. I saw her give him a look." Diana instantly turned back into concern.
"Did he give her the same look?" Steven asked.
"Yes I think so." Diana realized.
"My God. That's our boy! Go get that Kryptonian girl!" Trevor roared not in disdain, but in pride for his son.
"Oh no. Our boy is too young to be dating, besides he just met her. I don't want our boy dating." Diana was getting ruled up but Trevor kept her from leaving.
"Hey hold on Diana. This might be good for him, and you."
"How would it be good?" Diana asked, "Our boy is getting into girls too soon."
"Not the girl part I meant learning to be his own man, and for you to have faith in our son's choices. You and your family never had this to work with, and with our son? Maybe this is where your people and mine can finally decide what we can do together."
"You're right…" Diana breathed in deep, and exhaled hard, "Speaking of family, remember when I was pregnant and we went to Themyscira to tell my mother?" Diana asked.
"I remember very well, my jaw aches just thinking about it. Your mother punched me so hard." Steven remembered rubbing his jaw. The memory makes him rub his jaw again. "But at least she was happy about being a grandmother."
"She hated that I was the father. Still, she got used to me."
"Steve, there's nobody else I'd choose other than you, Mother knew you had a good heart, she just didn't realize…" Diana's words started to sound like how she felt when her son noticed the girl, "By the Gods."
"Sounds like you're going through the same process as your mom with us. Don't worry, right now it just sounds like a little crush. Nothing wrong with Trevor getting to know the opposite gender." Steve helped his wife see the other side of what worried her.
"Thanks, Steven, alright, I'll give this a chance. For Trevor Jr's sake."
