In Sickness and In Health
Hermione Granger war hero and best friend to Harry Potter and Ron Weasely now sat in front of her doctor. She had been feeling sick lately tired and the aching in bones seemed to have no end and she came shortness of breath just by walking down the hall. She had gone to the hospital for some test.
"Do you know what's wrong with me? asked Hermione in concern.
"Hermione, we ran several tests on you. You are muggle-born and you can still get some illnesses." Doctor Hellen told her.
"What's wrong with me?" asked Hermione again.
"You have leukemia." She told the young witch.
Hermione opened and closed her mouth in shock. "Are you sure?"
The doctor nodded her head. "I'm sorry."
Hermione blinked back the tears that threaten to fall from her brown eyes. "Treatment?"
"The muggle treatment won't work because your magic will reject it, and it will only cause it to spread faster. We have teamed up with a squirb doctor and started our own line of magical chemo. But it's in its experimental stages. You can try it and we can see what results will happen."
"Can I think on it Doctor Hellen?" asked Hermione.
"Yes. Of course." She said and wrote a prescription for a pain potion. "Here take this if the pain is too much. Don't be surprised if you form bruises easily." She said handing over the paper.
"Ok. Thank you." Hermione said and grabbed the paper and left the hospital. Her life had just been turned on its head.

Hermione sat at the bar at The Three Broomsticks with a shot of fire whiskey in front of her in hope to drown her pain in the bottle of liquor. She threw back the shot and hissed at the burn in her throat.
"Leave the bottle Rosemertia." Hermione told the bar maid.
Rose frowned at the pretty young witch and took the money from Hermione as she watched Hermione pour another shot. She walked over to the other customers.
Hermione was so wrapped up in sorrow that she didn't notice Lucius Malfoy sat down beside her and pulled out a white handkerchief for her to take. She mumbled a thank you and took it from the person beside her without looking from her shot glass.
"Bad day?" asked Lucius quietly.
"The worst day." Hermione mumbled and threw back another shot. She hissed at the pain in her right hand when she sat the glass down. She turned her hand over and saw bruise slowly forming on her hand.
Lucius brow frowned and took her hand gently into her own and thumbed the bruise. Hermione turned and looked at the man beside her with tears in her eyes. He had long blonde hair that was pulled back in low ponytail at the nape of his neck. He had fare skin, striking blue eyes and wore finely cut black robes.
"Let's get a booth." He said gently and helped Hermione from the stool and helped her to a nearby booth. He couldn't help but notice how her breath was short just from the small walk for the bar. "Rose two cups of tea please."
The bar maid nodded her head and quickly fixed two cups of tea and sat them down on the table. She left the couple alone.
"I don't want tea. I want to get drunk." Hermione snapped. She got up and grabbed her glass and the bottle and turned to the table. She poured the whiskey into her tea. "Here better to drink with someone then alone." She poured some into Lucius tea.
He sighed and sipped his tea knowing he wouldn't get anything out of the young woman that worked for him. He knew that caused problems with her so called friends. He cared for the woman. She had forgiven him and started working for him at his law office after she graduated from Hogwarts.
"What did the doctor say?" asked Lucius knowing she took the afternoon off to go visit.
Hermione summoned two shot glasses from the bar area and poured them a double shot. She threw back the shot and poured another one. "You know what's messed up. I fought through war with barely a scratch only to die from leukemia."
"What? What's leukemia?" asked Lucius.
"Muggle cancer." She said and threw back another shot.
"Fuck." Lucius said and poured another shot for himself and downed it quickly. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and she laid her head down on his shoulder. "I'll get you the best healer I can find. I'll cover all the bills. You want have to worry about thing." He told her and poured another shot for them both.
Hermione moved from his shoulder. "I couldn't ask you to do that."
Lucius shook his head. "I didn't ask. I'm offering Hermione."
She blinked back the tears and threw her arms around her boss and cried into his shoulder. "Thank you."
He gently ran his fingers through her smooth brown curls. He pulled back. "Let's get drunk. The hell to world right now. Rose, another bottle of fire whiskey!"
The bar maid only nodded her head and sat the full bottle down on the table. She had sadly heard what Hermione told Lucius. "On the house and please make sure you guys get home ok. If not, you have two rooms upstairs."
"Thank you Rose." Lucius told her and poured two shots of whiskey.
Two hours later Lucius and Hermione were drunk sitting at the table. He asked, "Biggest regret?"
"Not getting married." She answered.
Lucius leaned forward and whispered, "Let's get married."
Hermione sobered up some and blinked. "What?"
Lucius took her hands into his own. "Hermione, you've worked for me for five years. You're over at the Manor all the time. We have dinner regularly together. Draco's kids love you. Let me take care of you."
"Ok." She whispered.
"Let's go." He said and they left The Three Broomsticks for the Ministry Affairs Office.

Hermione groaned and slowly and touched her head at the throbbing pain. She was never drinking again. She slowly opened her eyes and quickly closed them at the bright lights in the room. She slowly opened them again. She turned her head when she heard a snore come from beside her, and her eyes widen.
"Oh, shit." Hermione said and stumbled out of her boss's bed. "No, I didn't just sleep with my boss." She said when she noticed that she was naked.
"What's wrong?" mumbled Lucius as he slowly opened his eyes and a naked Hermione standing in his bedroom. He summoned his black slick robe and it zoomed into his out reached hand. "Here put this on."
She quickly put on the robe. "I'm going to be sick." She said covered her mouth and turned to find the bathroom door and quick ran to the toilet closing the door behind her.
Lucius got up from the bed and found another robe and tied it around his naked frame. He looked down on the bedside table and picked up marriage license. He sat down on the bed. He lifted his left hand and saw a wedding band resting on his left ring finger. He ran his thumb over the band. It had been years since he had been married. He had divorced Narcissa five years ago.
Hermione entered the bedroom after emptying her stomach of all the whiskey she had drank. She sat down on the bed next to Lucius. She saw the marriage license and her eyes widen in shock.
"We got married! Oh, no." whispered Hermione. "As if my life can't get anymore messed up!" She snapped and jumped up from the bed and began to pace the floor.
Lucius watched his young wife pace the floor mumbling under her breathe. He got up and walked over to her when he saw her breath become in short. He wrapped his arms around her slender waist. She gripped his soft slick robe and buried her face into his chest.
"We can't be married only for me to make you a widow." Hermione cried.
He wrapped his arms a little tighter around her waist. "It's going to be all right. I told you I would take care of you." She felt her nod her head. "What a better way then you to be my wife. I remember you said your biggest regret was not getting married."
Hermione pulled back. "I don't remember saying that."
He gently dried her tears with his thumbs. "I do. No matter how long or how short our marriage will be. I will take care of you Mrs. Malfoy."
Hermione opened her mouth and closed it not knowing what to say. She laid her head back down onto his chest and sighed. She was normally head strong and would fight tooth and nail. She worked hard at her job and didn't listen to gossip or the slander that hit the Daily Prophet when she started working for Lucius Malfoy. But with the news she was hit with yesterday shook her to the core.
"I've got you, witch, you don't have to be strong all the time." Lucius whispered. Hermione gripped his robe's tightly and broke down into tears. "I've got you, and you're going to fight like hell." He felt her nod her head. He stepped back slightly. "I'll go draw you a bath." He kissed her forehead and entered the bathroom to start his wife's bath.
Hermione sat down on the bed and lifted her left hand and saw a gold band on her hand. She couldn't help but smile and ran her thumb over the gold that circled her finger. She looked up when she felt a hand touch her shoulder.
"Your bath is ready dear." Lucius said. "I'll get dressed and inform the house elf that you will be here. Then we can have Tilly pack up your flat and you move in."
"Lucius, I can't just move in.," said Hermione.
"You are my wife. I will take care of you. Please Hermione. I couldn't bare it if you were home alone and something bad happened to you. You are not just my friend, but the glue that holds everything together." He told her sincerely.
She gently cupped the blonde's cheek and kissed his forehead and walked into the bathroom closing the door behind her a soft click. She removed the robe and hung up on the hook on the door. She carefully got into the large tub and eased into the hot bath. She laid her head back onto the soft bath pillow and sighed heavily and closed her eyes.
She couldn't believe how her life had changed over the years. She had graduated from Hogwarts with the highest marks in the school's history. She had fought and won the war. She vouched for Lucius and Draco Malfoy due to her information given to her from Albus Dumbledore himself before his untimely death. Lucius had asked her to work for him digging a wedge between her two best friends Harry Potter and Ron Weasely in deeper. She had lost her parents in a plane crash three years ago. She hadn't gone to the Burrow in several years due to mean remarks about her working for the Malfoys'. She lived alone. She had buried Crookshanks several years ago. She was alone.
Hermione lifted her left hand out of the bubbles and fingered her wedding band. She giggled. She was married to Lucius Malfoy and she went under the water to wet her hair and came back up and washed her hair and laid back to relax. Maybe Lucius was right she didn't have to strong all time. She didn't know how long or short her life was going to be but she was going to grab it with both hands and fight.
