Harry knows that he can't go back to the cabin he shares with Ginny just yet - not after the fight they've just had - and he doesn't want to ruin his friends' night, so he doesn't have much choice but to go for a walk in the snow, and sneak back into the cabin after Ginny has gone to sleep. It's freezing though, and as he had stormed off in anger, he had forgotten to take his coat with him.
His teeth are chattering by the time he reaches Draco's cabin - having done his best to avoid the boys' cabins, as surely they would notice he was upset if they were to see him right now. It's been quite some time since they had said goodbye after drinks, and Harry figures Draco must be fast asleep by now, especially with him needing his rest for the wedding tomorrow. But when he looks at the cabin, and he sees the lights shining through the thin curtain, he feels an odd sense of excitement.
They really need their rest though, and it would be a terrible idea to knock on his door right now to, to… to do what, he's not quite sure. But he does know that he wants to be with Draco right now, and that it doesn't matter if they talk about what happened just now, or if they have a drink and sit in complete silence.
So he knocks on his door, and Draco opens it just a moment later, looking confused, before his confusion turns into worry.
"What are… is something wrong?" he asks as he wraps the bathrobe - which he must have quickly thrown on over his pyjamas before opening the door - tighter around him.
"Nothing's wrong, I was just…," Harry tries to explain, but he fears that if he were to say another word right now, everything about Ginny and him - about his conflicted feelings for Draco - would come out.
"Would you like to come in?"
Harry is still convinced it's a terrible idea, but he can't get himself to decline the offer - as he can't deny that this is what he was hoping for when he knocked on his door.
"So what's wrong?" Draco asks again, a knowing look on his face. "Did something happen with Ginny?"
"How did you know?"
"She seemed upset when you left after drinks. Do you want me to go talk to her, explain…," Draco hesitates. "I'm assuming she was upset because I made you drink all my cocktails?"
"She didn't even notice," Harry chuckles. "No, she ehm… she was upset because she thought I was flirting with you."
"Oh…"
"We had a fight about it, and she kicked me out," Harry admits, but when he sees the guilty look on the other man's face, he can't help but laugh. "Not because of the flirting."
"Were you?"
Harry gives a nod, because why try and deny it? It was obvious, and didn't they almost kiss earlier that day?
"You're married, Harry," Draco sighs. "I think perhaps it would be better if you left…" He seems to grow even uneasier, and he pulls the bathrobe tight around him for protection. "You should apologise to her, explain that nothing is going on between us."
"You want me to lie to her?"
"Don't, Harry," Draco warns him, and as Harry has done enough arguing for the night, he lets it go.
"I haven't been honest with you. About Ginny."
"What about her?"
"We're not together anymore," Harry admits, and even though he knows that Ginny would go off on one if she knew that he was telling him right now, he just doesn't care anymore. "We haven't been together in months."
"But why…," Draco begins, but it takes him a moment to process this new information, and Harry half-expects him to be angry with him for lying. But then he just sighs, and he flashes a sympathetic smile. "What happened?"
They sit down on the bed, and Harry begins telling Draco everything, from his shattered dreams, to the plans they used to make but which always seemed to make way for Ginny's career, to the moment he had come home early and found Ginny in bed with someone she worked with.
"I'm so sorry, Harry," Draco sighs. "I had no idea. From what Scorpius told me, I thought the two of you…"
"Albus doesn't know," Harry quickly says. "No one does. We wanted to take care of things and both have some time to get used to things, before we told anyone. But then Albus and Scorpius announced their engagement…"
"And you didn't want to ruin their big day," Draco realises. "So you and Ginny…"
"We're not even living together anymore. She moved out months ago. You know, when she cheated, I wasn't even upset that she betrayed me. I was upset that she did it in our house…" Harry tries to explain. "It felt like she didn't just turn her back on me, but on the children too, you know? She could have done it anywhere, but in our home?" He shakes his head, feeling the anger build up inside of him as he thinks back to that day again. Even though the children hadn't grown up in that house, it was supposed to be their forever home now that they had moved back to England, and for Ginny to bring someone else into their home - for her to cheat on him in their house, in their bed, and for her to ruin the sanctity of their forever home, it hurt so much more than he could ever explain.
"You'll tell them after the wedding?"
"Not about the cheating," Harry says, "They don't have to know about that. But yes, that's the plan. We were going to try and make the best of it this week, but we've done nothing but argue."
"Because you're upset with her?"
"Because she's upset with me," Harry admits. "We probably shouldn't be stuck together in a cabin right now, because no matter what I say, she disagrees," he tries to explain, but he knows that he is making it sound like Ginny is the problem, when he definitely hasn't been any better at handling things, so he quickly adds, "And I said some horrible things to her tonight."
"So apologise to her. She's the mother of your children, so you're always going to have to deal with her."
"I'll apologise to her in the morning. We'd only end up arguing again, so…" Harry shrugs. "Sorry I came here to bother you with all this. Did I wake you up?"
"No, I was still reading." Draco smiles reassuringly. "And you're not bothering me. You know that."
Harry feels the urge to kiss him, but he knows that it would probably only upset him. But now that he has told him the truth about Ginny, he does want to be honest with him about where he stands.
"I was flirting with you, Draco."
"Don't do this, Harry," Draco sighs. "Please. Not tonight."
Not before the wedding, Harry understands. Not when they will have to spend two more days together, and when it would be awful if they messed up and made things awkward now.
"How are you feeling?" Harry asks, to change the subject. "How's…?" He points at Draco's bump, which is hidden underneath the fluffy bathrobe.
"She's been kicking all night." Draco smiles, looking down at his belly.
"She?"
Draco gives a nod, the smile on his face growing bigger - prouder. Harry feels himself getting emotional at the thought of Draco having a little girl, and he has to stop himself from moving in closer and wrapping his arms around him.
"You should move in with me," he blurts out - the thought having crossed his mind just once or twice before. He didn't plan to speak it out loud though, and when he sees the look of shock on the other man's face, he almost wishes he hadn't. It's too late to take it back though, and even though it's probably an awful idea, as Draco and him have only started to become friendly over the last couple of days, it doesn't make sense for him to live in the family home by himself, while Draco is homeless with a baby.
"I should… no!" Draco laughs. "Are you still drunk?"
"I'm not drunk!" Harry quickly defends himself, as the fight with Ginny had been enough to sober him up. "I mean it. I live all by myself now that Ginny has moved out, so there is more than enough room for you and the baby."
"I am not moving in with you, Harry!" Draco laughs, clearly still not sure if Harry is being serious here or not. "We will end up killing each other. Trust me."
"I can help you with the baby," Harry suggests. "You said it yourself, you're going to be homeless, so why not…?"
"Why not?" Draco scoffs. "Because we hardly even know each other, Harry. You have your own life, and I…" His voice begins to shake, and Harry wants to do nothing more than to comfort him, but he doesn't know how. "I have messed everything up. Trust me, you do not want me in your life, and especially not in your home. I have no work, I am pregnant, at my age, and…" He rambles, tears starting to form in his eyes. But when Harry pulls him into his arms, if only to stop him from putting himself down, he keeps quiet.
"It's going to be okay," Harry whispers as he gently strokes the back of his head - right now not giving a damn anymore about whether it is crossing a line, or if it will upset Ginny. He wants to tell him that he's serious, and that he wants to help him. That he wants him and the baby to move in, and that they will find a way to make it work. But Draco is too tired and too upset, and Harry knows that it wouldn't matter what he says right now. It wouldn't get through to him anyway.
So he keeps stroking his hair, until Draco frees himself from his grip. They stare into each other's eyes, and even though Harry still very clearly remembers the awkward moment they shared that morning when they almost kissed, he can't resist going in for the kiss. Draco kisses him back, and he even rests his hand on Harry's chest. But when they break away from each other, he has a dark blush on his face and he looks down at his hands.
"Was that okay?" Harry checks.
"We shouldn't be doing this."
"Because of Ginny?"
"Because of the boys," Draco sighs. "And because of… well, because my life is a mess right now."
Harry wants to disagree, but he knows when he is being rejected. So he flashes a small, defeated smile, before getting up to leave.
"I should get back."
"You don't have to leave," Draco quickly says. "You can stay here, if you'd rather not share a cabin with Ginny right now."
"After what just happened?"
"It was only a kiss, Harry."
The words hurt Harry more than he'd like to admit, but he can't deny that spending the night here with Draco - even as just friends - sounds much more inviting than spending the night with Ginny. So he gives a nod, and after Draco has handed him the spare pyjamas - which were part of the welcome package Albus and Scorpius had provided for everyone - he goes into the bathroom to get changed.
"What do you think?" he laughs when he re-emerges from the bathroom, wearing the ridiculous-looking Rudolph print pyjamas.
"Very sexy," Draco teases, and even though it's very obviously a joke, Harry can still feel himself starting to blush.
"Do you want to ehm…?" He points at the bed, very clearly remembering how Ginny had pulled the bed apart so they wouldn't have to sleep in one bed, and he's assuming Draco will do the same. But Draco shrugs off the suggestion, and after taking off his bathrobe he climbs into bed, with Harry soon following.
