Last night Harry hadn't hesitated to get into bed with Draco, and it had felt right to lie there next to him. But the second he had woken up, part of him regretted the decision. Because while they had only shared a bed as friends, and nothing had happened between them, it still felt like that awkward morning after the night before, and he had no idea what he was meant to say or do.
He even considered sneaking out before Draco woke up, but he knew he couldn't do that to him - especially not as he would have to face him at the wedding anyway, and it would be best to have this awkward moment over with now rather than later, when everyone is there to witness it.
"'morning," Draco mumbles, flashing a sleepy, but adorable smile. "I thought you'd be gone."
"I wouldn't do that," Harry says, but when Draco raises an eyebrow, he can't help but smile. "I considered it."
"You should talk to Ginny before the wedding."
"I will." Harry nods, but to be honest, Ginny is the last thing on his mind right now. Because not only did he just wake up in Draco Malfoy's bed, his son is also getting married today. He is feeling nervous, but excited, and part of him wants to go outside and scream for at least an hour, just to let it all out. He knows he has to keep it together though, for the boys' sake.
Draco stretches out, before climbing out of bed and putting his bathrobe back on. He then slides his feet into the large, fluffy Rudolph slippers that came with the pyjamas that Harry is currently wearing, and when he sees Draco with his messy hair and his fluffy robe and slippers, he can't help but smile. The boy that used to wear dark suits worlds away from the man that is standing in front of him right now.
Draco blushes when he notices Harry staring at him, and he quickly tries to brush down his hair, but he only ends up messing it up more.
"About last night…," he begins, clearly wanting to get this over with too before the wedding.
Harry doesn't give him the chance to say what is on his mind though, as he interrupts, "I like you, Draco."
"You don't even know me. I am not sure who you think I am, but this… you know it can't happen," Draco argues. "Our sons are getting married in just a few hours."
"So?"
"So?" Draco laughs. "If you don't think that's reason enough... "
"I don't." Harry shrugs. "You have to admit that this has been nice, right?"
Draco doesn't answer, instead he goes over to the window to check out the snow - to gather his thoughts for a moment. It gives Harry hope that he will change his mind, but when he finally turns around, nothing seems to have changed.
"You don't know me," he repeats. "Yes, this has been nice… surprisingly nice… but this is not real life, Harry. My life is a mess right now, and I have nothing to offer you. You and Ginny were together for years, and now that you have separated, you should take time to figure yourself out. To see what you want to do now. Not throw yourself into some kind of… whatever you want from me. I am not what you want. Trust me."
"And what if you are?" Harry asks, but Draco doesn't give him an answer. "It feels right… this." He gestures between them, but what is the point? Draco clearly doesn't feel the same way about him.
"I'm about to have a baby, Harry," Draco argues a final time, "This isn't… maybe if things had been different, but there is just too much going on in my life. In both our lives. And you should be focusing on yourself right now."
Harry doesn't agree, as he has spent the last months trying to figure out his life. He still feels stuck though, writing novels he doesn't care for, living in a house that no longer feels like a home… being with Draco is the first thing in a long time that feels right again. That makes sense. Even if at the same time nothing about it makes sense at all.
"I'm sorry."
"Are you?" Harry asks.
"Don't be like that," Draco shuts him down. "You know I am." He reaches out and he hesitates before grabbing Harry's hand and giving it a squeeze to re-enforce his words.
"So why don't we go out some time? See what happens."
"Haven't you listened to a single word I just said?" Draco smiles shyly, but Harry takes it as a good sign that he doesn't give him a definite no. "Let's just try and get through today, huh?"
"Okay." Harry nods, and he almost leans in to try and kiss him again. It feels like such a natural thing to do, but he's not sure if it would feel the same to Draco, so he decides to give him a hug instead.
Harry wouldn't have minded spending the rest of the morning with Draco, but they couldn't exactly show up to breakfast together, and with the wedding happening in just a matter of hours, it isn't the day to hang around and take things slow. So he had gotten changed back into his own clothes, before sneaking out of Draco's cabin - hoping not to get caught, or it would be a little difficult to explain.
He thinks he has gotten away with it, but when he hears Scorpius calling out his name, he knows he has got some explaining to do.
"Scorpius!" He tries to fake a smile through his nerves, hoping that Scorpius didn't actually see him leave the cabin. But the young man has an amused grin on his face, and it's obvious that he is dying to ask him about it. "You're up early!"
"He won't let us sleep in," Scorpius explains, pointing at the pup, who is running around in the snow. "So, did…"
"Big day, huh?" Harry interrupts, part of him still hoping he can distract him just enough that they won't have to talk about it. "Are you excited?"
"I am." Scorpius grins, clearly amused at Harry's awkward attempt to distract him. "Did I ehm… did I just see you leave my dad's cabin?"
"What?" Harry laughs nervously, his cheeks going a dark shade of red. "No!"
Scorpius cocks an eyebrow, and Harry knows that there is no lying or distracting he can do to get away with this. He still half-considers trying to make a run for it, but Scorpius could - and probably would - just come after him, as it would only make things seem more suspicious.
"Your father forgot his coat at the bar last night, so I…"
"No, he didn't," Scorpius laughs. "He was wearing it when he left."
"Right… no, I meant that he forgot…"
"Harry!" Scorpius shakes his head, laughing. "Why were you at my dad's cabin?"
"Please don't tell Albus."
"That you're sleeping with my dad?"
"That's not… I did not sleep with your father, Scorpius," Harry says, but even though it is the truth, it still feels like he is telling him a lie. As something definitely had happened between them - and has been happening for days.
"Then what's with the sneaking around?" Scorpius asks. "Why can't Al know? And what can't he know?"
Harry doesn't want to flat-out lie to him, so he decides to tell him the truth - if only part of it.
"Ginny and I had an argument last night, because I drank too much," he explains, leaving out the part that the argument was about the divorce, and that he only drank too much because he was trying to stop people from finding out that Draco is pregnant. "She kicked me out, so…"
"So you stayed with my dad?" Scorpius guesses, a confused look on his face. "When Ron and Hermione are right there?"
Harry has no excuse, because when he puts it like that, it makes no sense. It would make sense for him to have stayed with his best friends, or with Luna, but not with Draco - who as far as everyone else is aware is no more than a stranger to him nowadays.
"Nothing happened, Scorpius," Harry reassures him. "He just let me spend the night, and I'm about to go talk to Ginny, so Albus doesn't need to know."
Scorpius opens his mouth to say something, but when Albus steps out of their cabin, the biggest and most excited smile on his face, he sighs.
"I won't tell him about your fight with Ginny. No need to worry him on our big day, right?"
"Thank you," Harry quickly says, but he can't help but feel guilty for asking him to lie - or keep something from Albus. He's not sure how he could have explained it without giving away too much though, and there is no time to worry about it too long, as he still has to talk to Ginny before the wedding.
