Draco said he would follow Harry to breakfast a few minutes later, but by the time Harry, Ron and Hermione had finished their food, Draco still hadn't arrived. Harry had waited for him another half an hour, but when there was still no sign of him, and they were already starting to clear away breakfast, he knew that Draco wasn't coming anymore.
Harry had almost gone over to his cabin to make sure he was alright, but he figured Draco must have his reasons not to join them. So he had gone back to his and Ginny's cabin instead to get his things packed.
Ginny had already packed her things, and by the time Harry got there she was gone. He knew she wouldn't go home without saying goodbye, and that she was probably at Lily's, or her parents' cabin. He couldn't exactly blame her for avoiding him, as they had been fighting for most of the week, but after talking things out yesterday he was hoping that the awkwardness between them would be over.
Harry had packed his bag - throwing away those stiff, uncomfortable shirts, and replacing them in his suitcase with the cream-coloured knitted sweater Draco had bought him. It felt good to leave them behind and to start over - even if the things cost a fortune, and he probably would have cried had he thought about the money he was throwing away.
He had taken his time to make his way over to the main building where they were supposed to all meet up to say goodbye, checking out the deer in the woods a final time, and enjoying the peaceful quiet of the place for as long as he could before he had to return home - back to the anything but peaceful and quiet of real life.
They hadn't exactly agreed on a time that they were leaving, instead settling on 'after breakfast', but with the boys, Harry knew that that could just as easily mean that they were going into town first and they wouldn't be leaving until later that day. He was half-expecting to be the first to arrive at the main building, so he was a little surprised to find Draco waiting there already on the swings.
"I missed you at breakfast," Harry says when he joins him. "What happened?"
"I wasn't hungry." Draco shrugs, his gaze distant as he is staring up at the sky. It's clear that something is on his mind, but after last night - after this whole week - Harry isn't sure if he wants to ask him what's wrong. Because what if he is the cause of the sadness in his eyes? What if he regrets last night, and he is trying to figure out a way to tell him he never wants to see him again?
"Do you want me to leave you alone?"
"No. Why?" Draco asks, and his genuine confusion seems like a good sign to Harry. "I was just thinking…"
"About what?"
"The baby," Draco says, that same loving smile which Harry noticed he always has when he talks about her, forming on his lips. It quickly fades though, as he admits, "I am terrified, Harry. How am I supposed to take care of her? I can't even take care of myself, and she…"
Harry shushes him by grabbing his hand and flashing a reassuring smile as he tells him, "You don't have to do it alone. I am here for you, for both of you, and…"
"I appreciate it," Draco interrupts, "But I cannot accept any help from you. You have got enough on your plate as it is."
"Please, Draco, I want to help."
"You…," Draco begins, but when they hear footsteps crunching in the snow, they both turn to look. Luna and Neville are heading over to join them, happily chatting away about the wedding and completely unaware that they have just interrupted their conversation.
It doesn't take long for the others to arrive, and even though they were supposed to say goodbye, soon enough they are all talking about their week here, about the things they have seen, about the wedding and the party. From Ron's antics, to Albus and Scorpius' singing - which Harry and Draco missed because they left early - to Draco's emotional speech. Half of it already feels like a distant memory, and it's clear that no one wants to say goodbye and leave all of this behind just yet.
Even with the arguments and the secrets hanging over them like a black cloud all week, Harry doesn't want to have to say goodbye either. He doubts they will ever go on a vacation with the whole family like this again, so he doesn't want it to be over yet. He doesn't want to go home, because once they leave this place, everything changes. Ginny and he will have to tell everyone about the divorce - even if everyone already seems to know -, he will have to figure out how to deal with these growing feelings for Draco, there is going to be a new baby soon… Part of him can't wait for it all to change - for this new chapter of their lives to begin. But part of him is terrified, and with everyone he hugs goodbye, he wonders what things will be like between them next time he sees them.
"Mum? Dad?" Albus asks, after he has said goodbye to almost everyone. "Have you got a minute?"
Harry can tell by the look on their son's face that this isn't going to be a simple 'Thank you for coming', and after both Scorpius and James figuring out the truth about the divorce, it's not hard to figure out what it is that he wants to talk about. Everyone is still hanging around though, so Albus leads them away from the group to a quieter place where they can talk without everyone listening in.
"I know," he says, a somewhat uncomfortable smile on his face. "About the divorce."
"Did James tell you?" Harry blurts out, but when he sees the glare on Ginny's face, he immediately regrets it.
"James knows? You told him?"
"He saw me with Draco, and…"
"James didn't tell me anything, but wait… you and Draco?" Albus laughs, Harry now truly kicking himself for messing this up so badly. He should have just kept his mouth shut and let Ginny take care of it, shouldn't he? But it's too late to take it back now. "Wait, so Scorp wasn't joking when he said he saw you leaving his dad's cabin?"
"He wasn't supposed to tell you! When…"
"So everyone knows?" Ginny cuts in. "When we agreed to keep it quiet? You went around, and…"
"It's fine," Albus laughs, clearly sensing the tension that is building between his parents again. "We all knew about the divorce anyway. But thank you, for wanting to keep it quiet until after the wedding. We knew you were trying to protect us, so we figured…"
"We?" Ginny asks, looking as confused as Harry is feeling right now.
"James… Lily… Teddy… Scorp…," Albus begins to list off, until his mother raises her hand to stop him. Having heard enough to know that this whole plan was a terrible idea - as if they hadn't figured that out already - and that it was all for nothing.
"I'm sorry we didn't talk to you about it," Harry apologises. "And I'm sorry that I…"
"Hooked up with Scorp's dad?"
"Albus!" Ginny warns him, but when she sees the blush on Harry's face, she just rolls her eyes. "I'll talk to you later, okay? Be safe."
"Always." Albus smiles, before giving his mother a big hug.
Ginny leaves, catching a ride home with Luna this time instead of Harry - as she figured it would be best not to be stuck together in a car and risk getting into another argument.
"So…" Albus grins. "You and Scorp's dad, huh?"
"No!" Harry laughs. "You can get that grin off your face, Al. I don't know what Scorpius told you, but…"
"Why? What is there to tell?"
"Nothing!" Harry laughs, before pulling his son into a hug. Relieved that he is not upset with him or Ginny for lying about the divorce, and that this is his reaction to him finding out about him and Draco - even if technically there is no him and Draco. It gives him hope though that if things were to change, at least Albus and Scorpius wouldn't be too upset with them.
"We should get going," Albus says, and from the look on his face it's clear that he doesn't want to leave this place either. But when he looks over his shoulder to where Scorpius and Draco are talking - Scorpius with their little pup in his arms - the happiest smile forms on his face. "Are you still okay to look after her?"
"Of course." Harry smiles, not willing to admit that he's a little nervous about having the pup in his house when the boys are on their honeymoon. But, he has the feeling that he is going to have to get used to things changing around the house soon anyway.
