It didn't take long for the truth about Harry and Ginny's divorce to come out after they had left the resort that day. Even though most of their friends and family had already had their suspicions, they were still a little upset to have been lied to for months. However, they did understand why they had decided to keep it quiet until after the wedding.
The dust hadn't yet settled before everyone had somehow found out that Draco was going to be moving in with Harry. They had only told Ginny, Albus and Scorpius, and they were going to tell the others once they had settled in and some time had passed after the news about the divorce - as surely people would put two and two together and come up with something that was far from the truth.
With the boys knowing, they should have known that it wouldn't be long before everyone would find out though. Of course Harry had tried explaining to everyone that he was simply trying to help a friend who needed a place to stay, and that it was only temporary. That this rumour about them having spent the night together during their trip was in fact, nothing more than a rumour. Everyone knew about their past though, so it made sense that it was hard for Harry's friends and family to believe that he now all of the sudden was willing to let Draco move in with him. If he had told them about the baby, of course they would have understood. But Draco wanted to keep that to himself until he had a chance to tell Scorpius himself after his and Albus' honeymoon.
The constant questions had nearly driven Harry mad, but he wasn't going to tell anyone Draco's secret. He knew what he was getting himself into when he had asked him to move in, so he was prepared for the questions that would come with it.
Draco felt terrible about the trouble he seemed to have caused for Harry though, but he knew that there was only one way to stop it all. Well, there were two ways, but as he needed a place to live, moving somewhere else really wasn't an option. So he had gone over to Albus and Scorpius' just a few days ago to tell them everything. He was expecting for Scorpius to be disappointed and hurt, and part of him feared he would never see him again.
Scorpius hadn't been disappointed though, and as soon as Draco had told him about the baby, he admitted that he already knew. Instead of being disappointed, he was excited to be having a little sister. Sure, he wished Draco had just told him the truth instead of walking around trying to keep it hidden, but after the whole divorce charade, he and Albus knew not to expect too much from their parents' logic, and that as stupid as their decisions had been, they had made them out of love.
In the midst of all of this happening, Harry and Draco had met up for coffee to talk over the details about Draco moving in. It was clear that Draco was feeling guilty that he not only had to rely on the kindness of others to have a place to live, but that people were now talking about them. Harry told him over and over again that it wasn't his fault, and that his friends and family were just curious, and also a little worried, seeing as he was - as far as they knew - only recently divorced. They felt like he was moving on too fast, and they were worried that he was making decisions now that he would end up regretting later.
Besides, he didn't want to have to worry about his friends and family anymore, or about what they were thinking. He wanted to focus on the future and on what was going to happen now that Draco was going to be moving in with him.
He wasn't entirely sure on the details, but he figured they still had some time left before Draco had to move out of his current flat. It turns out thim having to move out in 'a few weeks' meant that he had to move out not even two weeks after their trip, and by the time they were meeting up to talk things through, there were just a few days of those two weeks left.
Harry had almost called the whole thing off, because how were they supposed to arrange everything in what, four days? Especially as it was obvious that there was still chemistry between them, and it was going to be more confusing than ever to be dealing with these feelings once they would be living together. It would have been better if they had been able to meet up a few times before moving in together, and that they would have been able to figure out where they stand exactly. Sure, they had agreed to be just friends, but even as they had greeted each other that afternoon, they had almost kissed. It felt natural - their bodies somehow constantly drawn to each other as soon as they were in the same room - and to have to ignore that was proving to be difficult.
But, they will simply have to deal with it. Because today Draco is moving in, and even though Harry had insisted on coming to pick him up, Draco had refused his offer. He rented a van instead, as he didn't want Harry to waste his time driving all the way to London and then back home again.
Harry wouldn't have minded, because with him having to wait for Draco, he can't seem to sit still, and he keeps picking up things and moving them around. He hadn't even been the one to decorate the house, as Ginny had picked out most of these things when they had first moved in here, yet he is nervous as to what Draco will think of everything.
He has just picked up another candle to move around when he hears the van on the gravel outside. He nearly drops the candle because he's so nervous, not only to see Draco again, but for him to actually move in. It hadn't exactly been a throw-away offer, as he had definitely meant it, but everything that had happened during the trip felt like somewhat of a fantasy. He expected them to both return to their old lives, and to never see Draco again. So for this to become their new reality, it makes him more than just a little nervous. But even more than that, it makes him excited. So excited even, that he makes a run for the door and reaches it before Draco has even gotten out of the van.
"What do you think?" he asks, trying hard to resist the urge to give him a hug, as he doesn't want to scare him off right away.
"This is…," Draco begins, but he is clearly overwhelmed and Harry can see that the move is emotional for him.
"How about we unload the van later, and we have a cup of tea first?"
Draco gives a nod, but when he doesn't move - when he just stands there staring at the house - Harry wraps his arms around him anyway. He caresses the back of his neck, relieved when Draco doesn't shove him off but clings onto him instead.
"I'm sorry, it's just…"
"It's a lot." Harry nods. "I know."
They had stood there for what felt like forever, and by the time they head into the house Draco seems to have settled into his emotions a little. Harry is a little surprised to hear him chuckle though, so he turns to look over his shoulder to make sure he is really okay.
"What is…?" he begins to ask, but when Draco points up at the doorway, he realises why he was laughing.
"Sorry about that!" Harry quickly says, embarrassed to find that they are standing underneath the mistletoe. "I decorated the house, in case the children wanted to come over for Christmas, and I thought I had taken everything down, but…"
"So you didn't leave it up for me?" Draco teases.
"I wouldn't do that," Harry quickly says, even though he definitely wouldn't mind if they were to have a repeat of the night they spent together after the wedding. "I know that we agreed to…" He doesn't get a chance to finish what he was going to say, because Draco grabs him by the shirt, and he pushes him up against the wall before kissing him hard. Clearly having been thinking about this and wanting this as much as Harry.
As much as this is what Harry wanted, he can't help but think of Draco rejecting him not once but several times, and it makes him a little hesitant to kiss him back. Because sure, this part is nice, but he can't handle to keep getting his hopes up, only for them to be crushed again when Draco reminds him of the reality - when he reminds him that them becoming more than friends would be a terrible idea.
"Are you sure about this?" he asks. "What about what you said…"
"Potter?"
"Yes?"
"Shut up."
