It had been a little awkward after they kissed, but Harry had quickly shown Draco into the living room, before disappearing into the kitchen to make them a cup of tea. All he wanted to do was ask Draco why he had kissed him, and if this meant that he had changed his mind on wanting them to just be friends now, but it was clear that Draco was overwhelmed, and he did not want to make things any more stressful for him. So he had made him a large mug of tea, and he had cut the cake he bought - after deciding not to even try and bake one, as Draco knew too much about baking for him to get away with messing up.
Draco hadn't brought up the kiss, so Harry hadn't either. Instead they had made some small talk, Draco talking about the drive here, Harry talking about the neighbours, the shops in town… it was clear that it was going to take some time for them to get comfortable around each other, and that neither of them knew what to say or how to act around each other.
It had almost been easier back at the resort, because that hadn't been real life. Now that Draco was in his house - the house he had bought with Ginny - it just felt too real and too out of place somehow. Yet at the same time it was exactly what he had wanted.
"Nice sweater." Draco smiles, after finishing his tea.
Harry looks down, only now noticing he is wearing the cream-coloured sweater Draco had bought for him. After their trip he had gone through his wardrobe and he had thrown out nearly every single shirt Ginny had ever picked out for him. When they were together, he used to hate to shop, because he felt like it didn't matter whether he was there for it or not. Ginny picked out everything anyway, so it felt like a waste of time for him to be there. But after throwing out most of his shirts, he had gone into town and he had, for the first time in years, bought things that he liked. Things that Ginny probably would have hated, but things that made him feel comfortable and in which he felt good - even if they probably weren't the most stylish choices. He knew that he probably wouldn't have made that step, hadn't it been for Draco forcing him to buy the green coat, and it had made him even more grateful for the push he had given him.
He didn't put the sweater Draco had given him on on purpose today though, and when he realises, it makes him blush. Because between the sweater and the mistletoe - neither of which were meant on purpose - it is definitely starting to look like he was trying to tell Draco something.
"It looks good on you." Draco smiles, before Harry has even thought of an excuse - however lame it is - as to why he chose exactly that sweater to wear today.
"Thanks." He blushes. "I ehm…," he begins, "I'm not sure if it's too soon, but…"
"Harry…," Draco sighs, clearly unsure whether he wants to hear the rest of what he was going to say. Because what if he says something that will make it impossible for them to live together?
Harry ignores him though, as he continues, "I decorated Lily's old room. For the baby."
"Oh… wow…"
They agreed that Draco would move into the spare room, as it was bigger than Lily's room, and he could do with it whatever he wanted. But they hadn't talked about what would happen once the baby was born, and Draco figured that if he was still living with Harry by the time she was born, that she was going to be staying with him in his room - as this move was only supposed to be a temporary solution until he had found a new job and made enough money to find a new place to live. He did not think that Harry would actually prepare a room for his daughter though, especially as they still have a few months left until she is born.
"I asked Lily, and she was okay with giving up her room," Harry continues, getting somewhat nervous now that he sees the slightly panicked look on the other man's face. "I wanted it to be finished before you moved in, so you wouldn't have to worry about it. But we can change anything, or if you want to…"
"Thank you," Draco cuts in, the panic on his face - which in all honesty was him simply not being used to someone caring this much, and doing something like this for him - having been replaced by the softest and most grateful smile. "Can I see it? The room."
"It's nothing special, it's only…"
"Harry," Draco chuckles, "Can I see it?"
"Yes, of course."
Harry had tried his best to make the room as nice as possible, but Ginny had been the one to pick out everything for their children's rooms when they were born, and he had never done more than maybe give his opinion on what colour he liked best. To now pick out colours, furniture and decorations and set up the room himself, it made him a little nervous. It had been a fun project to take on though, and it had been a good distraction - even if he ended up having to rush things once he found out that there were only four days left before Draco was moving in.
"This is…," Draco begins, but he doesn't get a chance to finish his sentence, as Harry nervously rambles on about how they can change anything he doesn't like, and how he had no idea what he was doing.
"I thought maybe she'd like the birds," Harry rambles, pointing at the wallpaper, which is covered in different coloured birds. The same, bright little birds hanging from the mobile that's hanging over the cot. "She won't know though, will she? So if you don't like them…"
"I do," Draco interrupts, and he grabs his hand to reassure him that he means it. "I love it. All of it. I could never have given her anything like this, so…" His voice begins to shake. "You have no idea how much this means to me."
Draco goes over to the cot, and he lets his fingers trace over the fabric of the little birds on the mobile, a soft smile forming on his face when he sees the unevenness and the little inconsistencies.
"Did you make this yourself?"
Harry nods, before quickly admitting, "Luna had to help me though."
"I can't believe you did all this for me." Draco smiles, but then he places a hand on his bump. "Well, for her."
"For both of you," Harry assures him, because surely he should know by now that he cares about him, and that he did not just ask him to come live with him because of the baby.
"How is it going?" Albus asks, when later that day he stops by to drop off his and Scorpius' pup to come stay with Harry while they are away on their honeymoon. "Draco moved in today, didn't he?"
"He did." Harry nods, not sure how to answer Albus' first question. Draco had clearly been overwhelmed after the move, and after seeing the baby's room, and after unpacking the van and carrying all his things into the house, Harry could see that he was close to breaking down. So he had told him to go take a nap, and they would go through his things some other time.
"Are you regretting your choice already?" Albus laughs. "Where is he anyway?"
"He's upstairs, taking a nap."
"Is he okay? Is the baby…?"
"They're fine." Harry nods, a warm feeling in the pit of his stomach when he sees how much his son seems to care about Draco and the baby. Especially because he knows how worried Draco had been that especially Scorpius, but Albus too would be upset with him once they found out about the pregnancy.
"Are you sure you can handle looking after this one?" Albus asks. The little pup is curled up in his arms now, but they both know that she can be a nightmare sometimes, and with Draco moving in, it might not be the best timing having to look after a puppy too. "Or it might be good to prepare you for when the baby is born," Albus teases. "You know, when she breaks your nice things, or when she… I mean, not that she would ever do that, but…"
"Sure!" Harry laughs, shaking his head. "Also, if you think a pup and a baby are the same, then it's probably a good idea if you and Scorpius wait a few years before…"
"Ha!" Albus laughs awkwardly. "No, we're not… no! I mean… no..."
"Albus…! Please tell me you're not pregnant." Harry can feel his heart starting to race, because come to think of it, it would explain the rushed wedding. But he is still getting used to the idea of soon having a baby in the house, and possibly becoming a parent, or step-parent, or whatever he ends up being in the little girl's life. How is he supposed to get used to the idea of becoming a grandfather at the same time too?
"I'm not!" Albus laughs, his cheeks turning a dark shade of red. "But we have been talking about maybe… you know… "
"Maybe what?"
"It would be okay if it happened… I guess," Albus tries to explain, clearly not very comfortable discussing this with his father.
"Don't you think this is all going too fast?"
"Says you. You and Draco hooked up what, two weeks ago, and he's already moving in?" Albus laughs, and even though they both know that the situation is entirely different, and that Harry does have a point, he can't exactly say anything to that, can he?
"Just try and enjoy yourselves a little before you start a family, Al," Harry tells him. "You're still young."
"Thanks for the advice, dad."
"But no thanks?" Harry laughs, rolling his eyes, wondering how long it will be before he's not only babysitting for their pup, but for their actual baby too. And even though the thought makes him nervous, as in his eyes Albus and Scorpius are still just boys, he still remembers when he was their age, and he remembers the happiness he had felt when James was born - how he had had many regrets in his life, but his children were never one of them.
