~1 year later~

Light walked up to the monument, a large marble block with thousands of tiny names engraved on it.

"I assumed you'd be here," he said as he stood beside the black-haired woman. Naomi turned to look at him, her lips turned upwards in a small smile before she turned to look back at the monument.

"A year since Merikh's demise and this is all we have to show for what happened. A long list of names of those innocent people who died because of them," Naomi said. Light looked at the monument, his eyes taking in the extent the world suffered because of Teru and Higuchi.

We remember those who lost their lives to evil

Naoki Koro Kitayama, Lind L. Tailor, Tayoshi Murao, Kazuhiko Hibima, Seiji Kumaizumi, Hirokazu Ukita, Arayoshi Hatori, Ginzo Kaneboshi, Ito Shiroba, Jason Grace, Thalia Grace, Tyler Williams, Shintaromaru Maruyamada, Takeshi Ooi, Masahiko Kida, Shingo Mido, Suguru Shimura, Andrew Miller, Steve Mason, Ellickson Gardner, Shawn Dunleavy, Rod Ross, Jack Neylon, Sarah Smith, Margret Cole, Pedoro Kollet, Hitoshi Demegawa, Tokie Mikami, Toors Denote, Haley Belle, Lian Zapack, Arire Weekwood, Ale Funderrem, David Lincher, Knick Staek, Bess Skelletd, Frigde Copen, Girela Sevenster, Nikola Nasberg, Raye Penber

More names followed them, both sides covered with a list of the dead, those innocent people, Merikh tried as guilty and killed and right at the bottom engraved for all to see was the accurate number of criminals Merikh killed during his reign of terror.

And all the 269,916 criminals who were judged unfairly and killed by Merikh

"When we were working the case and daily, we were getting reports of criminals dying. It didn't seem that much, but looking at the total from around the world, it's insane how powerful something like that notebook is. To end all those lives," Naomi said, and Light nodded his head in agreement.

"We owe it to them to make sure the death note doesn't fall into anyone's hands again. I don't think the world could cope with another Merikh," Light said, "I've heard you've returned to the FBI."

"With Raye gone I… I only left the FBI to have a family, it wasn't fair on our children to have both their parents be rushing off on missions, but with Raye gone. I need something to keep me occupied and I know the working of the FBI, it was easy to get my old job back," Naomi said.

"I never said, but I'm sorry for your loss. I never knew Raye but I'm sure he was a great man," Light said, and Naomi gave him a weak smile, "And I hope it goes without saying, if you need any help, no matter how small you can call us. You're our friend Naomi."

"Thank you," she whispered; her fingers brushed against her dead fiancé's name, "Anyway, what are you doing here. From what I heard, they were putting one of these monuments up in every capital. Isn't there one in London, you didn't need to fly all the way to Tokyo to see this one?"

"I could say the same thing about you," Light laughed, "Matsuda's moving to England, they have roped me into helping pack his stuff."

"Matsuda and Beyond are still together?" Naomi asked though she wasn't surprised, she'd seen first-hand them dancing around their feelings for each other.

"They're getting married next month. You are of course invited," Light said, pulling the invitation Beyond had given him when he mentioned he was coming to see the monument from out of his pocket and handing it over to her.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world," Naomi grinned, "I've always wondered what Beyond looks like domesticated."

Light laughed, "Oh don't worry Naomi, it's a sight to see."

Light lay on the sun lounger in the garden of Wammy's house as the children played, his arms wrapped around his youngest child. After officially adopting Near and Mello barely three months from returning home to Wammy's, L brought up the idea of having more children, Near and Mello were old enough to look after themselves and apparently, L wanted to experience having a normal married life with Light, going on family vacations, having young children to care for. He wanted to put his detective works aside for a bit and experience a life he's missing out on by travelling the world and solving the world's hardest crimes and after the Merikh case ended, L deserved time off. Light suspected his kidnapping and injuries played a part in his husband's revelation, but he would not argue. These last two years brought out a side of L then Light had never seen before, a more playful and stress-free version of his husband, who laughs more, who tries to get more sleep each night and eats three square meals a day, that doesn't change that L still reached for sweets and cake when he's craving it, but Light couldn't be any prouder of his husband for trying.

Neither of them could decide who they want to father their first child. Light believed it should be L as it was his idea, whilst L wanted it to be Light because he wanted their child to inherit all the qualities he loves about Light. They instead compromised by finding two surrogates who had similar features to L and Light. Eight months later, their surrogates when into labour two weeks apart and now they are the proud parents of Kassidy and Ami Lawliet. As soon as their children had been born, his mum and Sayu moved to England with Sayu starting college in September. After the hospital incident, his mum divorced his biological sperm donor and kicked him out of their lives for good. The last Light had heard was Yagami's boss at the NPA had been appalled by his behaviour and demoted him to beat cop whilst being on a six-month strict probation. Yagami had only lasted three weeks before acting out and Kitamura, the recently promoted director of the NPA, had fired him from the spot, then later blacklisted Yagami so he couldn't get another job working with the police or any security type job. Light didn't know what Yagami was doing now, and neither did he care. All he cared about was that the man finally got what he deserved and was officially out of his life.

Sayu had been the one to suggest moving to England to be closer to Light, they didn't have anything tying them to Japan; they didn't have any grandparents and Sayu wasn't that close to her friends anymore. Putting their lives in Tokyo behind them was easy. L offered rooms at Wammy's for them to stay whilst they sort their new lives in England out, but his mum refused, she'd already had her eyes on this little cottage not even half an hour's drive away, but it doesn't stop her from visiting every day to see her grandchildren and give L and Light a few hours to themselves.

Near and Mello both adored their new grandma and whenever she visited, she always made sure to spend some time with them, especially now Mello and Matt were engaged, and Mello has turned full Bridezilla to plan and arrange the perfect wedding. The only person who's able to calm him down is Sachiko, whilst Matt just keeps his head down and agrees to everything Mello says. According to Near, to who Matt has been taking refuge with ever since being proposed (barely a month ago), Matt doesn't care about the actual wedding and reception, all he wants is to marry Mello. So, he's happy to leave Mello up to arrange the whole day, as long as he ends up with Mello as his husband by the day is through, then that's all Matt cares about. What Matt has gotten himself into, Light isn't sure, but as long as they're happy, then that's all Light can ask for. God, he sounds old.

Near on the other hand has fully embraced the world of being a detective, he is currently listed as the world's third greatest detective and aims to kick L out of the top spot. Near still keeps himself to himself and doesn't really open up to anyone who isn't his family, but that is his baby for him. They'll never truly get over the hardships and neglect faced by his biological family, but he's getting better each day and Light can't be any prouder of his son for all that he accomplished. Okay, it's official Light is now one of the soppy parents, but then again, he can't be any worse than Beyond and Touta who are officially the most lovesick couples out there, they're practically attached at the hips, where one is the other will follow, they're both still in the honeymoon stage of their relationship and from what Light see there's no light at the end of that tunnel yet, but he can't really complain. His best friend is happy, and that is all he can hope for.

"One happy baby with a clean nappy," L said, walking out onto the patio with Cassidy balanced on his hip. Light smiled at his husband, reaching out to his husband, catching his white baggy shirt in his hand and pulling L downwards until he's close enough that Light can press their lips together.

"What was that for?" L asked when Light released him.

"Nothing," Light smiled, "I just… I love you, L Lawliet."

L smiled brightly as he kissed his husband again before pulling away only just, Light can still feel his breath on his mouth, "I love you too, Light Lawliet."

Light smiled before pulling his husband back down for a deeper kiss and to think this all happened because a strange Panda looking child approached him in the back alleys of Paris.

Light was seven when he ran away from home. He's seven when he's found by a panda looking child. Now Light is twenty-one with his mum and sister living only half an hour away, he's twenty-one with four beautiful children who all affectionally call him Mum. Light is twenty-one when he found his home in his husband, a strange man with an affinity for sweets and still looks oddly enough like a panda and he wouldn't change that for the world.

The End
