Chapter 51: Enter New Players
Author's Note: Hello, everyone! This chapter ended up taking a lot longer and ended up being way longer than I expected. I'm quite happy with the results, though.
Anyway, I'm sure most of you have heard the big news. Generation 9: Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been announced! My personal favorite right now is Quaxly, but who are you all picking? The games still need a bit of work visually, but they're a massive step up from both Sword and Shield and Legends. I'm very excited to see this game in more action.
Also, I retconned a small bit from the last chapter. I went through the effort of conceptualizing an entirely new Pokeball when a Pokeball already existed to fit the exact purpose I was looking for. I changed the text at the end of the last chapter, so you can check that out if you'd like. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
"You called me a big fish. You're quite skilled at mocking people, League of Villains." The man said. He stood there, in front of several League of Villains members, pretty much fearless. He grasped the Pokeball in his hand, ready at any given moment.
"Is this guy famous or something?" Magne asked, much to Tomura's annoyance. "My teacher used to show me pictures of him. He's a part of the Shie Hassaikai Yakuza Gang. From what I know, he's the underboss around there."
"The underboss of… the Shie Hassaikai?! From the Underworld?!" Magne recognized the name, naturally. It was one of the most notorious Yakuza groups in all of Japan. It could only be a miracle that Twice brought this man here today. "I've never met someone so dangerous!" Magne said excitedly.
"The Underworld? How's that different from us?" Toga asked. Mr. Compress smiled and pat her on the shoulder. "Let me explain. There used to be a lot of Yakuza groups in a network known as 'The Underworld.' Those groups slowly disappeared one by one after Heroes started becoming more prominent, but some still survived. By the time All Might showed up though, nearly all of them had gone extinct. Basically, this guy right here is an endangered animal of sorts."
The man scoffed. "An endangered animal? Guess that's not wrong."
"So, Mr. Underworld," Magne said. "What would you be doing here? I assume you're also rejoicing over All Might's retirement."
"Well, not entirely. All Might's disappearance is good, but I'm more concerned with the disappearance of All for One." The man said, catching Tomura's attention. "That man was the ruler of the Underworld. Although a lot of people my age see him as just an urban legend, a lot of the older folks believe he exists and fear him, though rumor had it that he was long dead. Back when All Might showed his true form, he retired and All for One was doomed to live out the rest of his life in prison. In other words, both the authorities and the Underworld now don't have leaders. My question is… who's next?"
Tomura pulled out a Pokeball from his pocket and made sure this man saw it. "How dare you speak to us like that knowing full well who our leader is. Are you trying to start a fight?" He sent out the Pokemon, revealing Cofagrigus. "The next leader is me. We're biding our time and gathering resources. We're expanding our forces. Once that's complete, I'll use that force to wipe out Hero society for good."
"Do you have a plan? You know, aside from just wiping out Hero society and all." The man asked, causing Tomura to begin tapping the arm of his chair in annoyance. "Plan? You're really trying to provoke me or something. Doesn't seem like you're here to join us."
"A goal without a plan is mere delusion. Telling me just about your delusion is… troubling, to say the least. What about after you expand your little organization here? How are you gonna impose control? How will you organize? Starting with the Hero Killer, Moonfish, and Muscular. These were all incredible trainers under your control, yet they were defeated by mere children. You can't even control the half a dozen lunatics under you right now. What's the point of organizing a big group you can't even control. If you want to meet your goal, you need a plan. I've got a plan."
The man held up his Pokeball and toyed with it, thinking about sending out his Pokemon. "Sorry, but I'm not here to join you."
Tomura scoffed and looked at Twice. "You should've confirmed before bringing him here." He said. The man smiled and continued. "To execute a plan like that, you'll need a lot of funding. Too bad there aren't too many generous individuals willing to invest in groups like mine. However, you are different. You've built up a reputation, so I'll ask you this. Will you join me? Let me be the next ruler and I'll guide you."
There was a moment of silence where nobody spoke. The members of the League were completely appalled by the proposal of this man. "Get lost," Tomura said. Suddenly, Magne sent out her Probopass and sent him forward to attack. "Sorry, Mr. Underworld, but we aren't here to join someone else! I joined the League to live a free life! We want to dictate our own lives!"
The man then pressed the button on his Pokeball, sending out a completely unfamiliar Pokemon. It was almost shining for a moment as it lefts its Pokeball. It was Orange and White and looked almost alien-like. Its bottom half was some kind of stinger, while its top half looked similar to a lizard with wings.
"Naganadel, use Flamethrower." The man said. The Pokemon then flew into the air and released a stream of flames, stopping Probopass. Naganadel then flew past the rest of the Villains and grabbed onto Magne before anyone could react. Before they knew it, Naganadel had used Venoshock, killing Magne and melting her body away.
"M-Magne!" Toga stepped back in complete shock. All of them were completely stunned by the speed and power of this Pokemon… no, this beast. "You'll pay for that!" Compress sent out his Beheeyem and had it go right for Naganadel, despite Tomura's warnings.
Out of nowhere though, a dart his Beheeyem, causing it to stop and fall to the ground. Beheeyem began screaming in pain. Energy began flying out and inside of it as it made an ear-piercing scream. Naganadel then flew past it and right for Compress where it used its stinger to cut his arm clean off.
As Compress screamed in pain, Tomura stretched out his hand. Cofagrigus made a beeline for the man, but he simply stood there. After another dart missed Cofagrigus though, the man began panicking and held up his arms. "Shield!" He shouted.
One man in a similar mask to the man's that covered his entire face alongside his Crobat ran up to their boss and shielded them. In a fit of rage, Cofagrigus grabbed them and slammed them to the ground with such force that it caused the trainer's head to start gushing out blood.
"W-Wait, how?! I made sure I wasn't being followed!" Twice shouted. Tomura quickly recalled Cofagrigus back to his side and looked at the wall. "I see… if you made yourselves clear from the beginning, this would've been a lot more fucking easy."
Suddenly, the wall exploded, revealing four more men with similar beak-like masks that covered their whole faces. One of them was a tall and muscular man. He wore a black mask that covered his entire face and neck. There was another much shorter man who wore a black suit and a similar white mask. The third man was about as tall as their boss and wore a black plague-doctor mask while also wearing a black trench coat. Alongside them were several more alien-like Pokemon.
One of them was a jellyfish-like Pokemon. It was pretty much completely white, but the top of its head was a half-sphere-like structure that was also transparent. There was another one that was similar to a tree. It was black and white and its tentacles seemed to stretch out extremely long, making the creature tall. It had a spiky white ball at the very top of its body that emitted electricity.
There was also another massive monster. This one was a black beast with a large gaping mouth in its stomach. It had short stubby legs and several small arms, but the mouth was the real attracting feature.
"That was a close one, Overhaul." The fourth and final man there walked up to their boss, Overhaul, alongside his Pokemon. This man's Pokemon was similar to Overhaul's Naganadel, but his was purple and magenta instead of white and orange. It was also slightly smaller.
"You're late." Overhaul replied, annoyed. "Sorry, one shot ended up missing." He held up a strange-looking gun and smiled. "Looks like the drug is pretty effective, though."
"How did you find us?!" Twice send, hiding behind his Kangaskhan. "We don't know what these Pokemon can do. Chances are, one of them followed you and you didn't realize it."
Overhaul stood back up and began rubbing his arm violently. "Listen, because of… recent circumstances, we just wanted to come prepared. It's meaningless to just go at each other now. We both lost a man. I'm tired, so let's talk again another time. Don't get too hung up over the arm, though." Overhaul got on the back of the large mouth monster alongside the rest of the members of his group.
"You bastard… I'll kill you!" Twice said, his Kangaskhan roaring in response. "Let us kill him, Tomura. I'll do it, I swear." Toga said, her Zoroark ready to strike.
"Don't," Tomura said, surprising the two. The small man laughed and smiled. "You're a smart man." Overhaul looked down on them and let out a sigh. "I won't ask you to give me an answer now, but it's better to give me one sooner rather than later. Once you calm down, think it over then call me." He pulled out a calling card from his jacket and threw it in the air. Cofagrigus caught it and handed it to Tomura.
Twice clenched his fist and nearly instructed Kangaskhan to go for a Double-Edge, but he stopped himself. He turned to Tomura in anger. "Shigaraki?! Why are you stopping us?! They killed Magne!"
"Jin, take Compress and Beheeyem to a doctor first." Toga said, finally snapping Twice back to reality. He rushed to the trainer and Pokemon duo. Compress was still conscious but his Pokemon had been knocked out cold. Compress wasn't in good shape though, so Jin had Kangaskhan pick him up and escort him.
When the two were gone, Tomura began pacing, thinking about his next move. "Tomura?" Toga called out. "Not now." He thought about All for One and how Overhaul mocked him. He thought about how Overhaul called him out for his lack of preparation and organization. He thought about how Overhaul killed Magne and took Compress' arm. "I won't forget this." He said to himself.
Meanwhile, back at UA, the teachers had finalized the details for the students' internships. They had to make a tough decision when it came to what they'd recommend the students to do since even they had to admit that the first years were moving much faster than normal.
Aizawa was now giving his lecture and relaying all of the information the teachers had put forward in their meeting. "In your internships, you'll be going with Pro Heroes to crime scenes and helping out. That formal work is what the internships are all about. That being said, all the teachers, including the principal, came to an agreement yesterday. We all pretty much agreed that it'd be best for you to forget the internships."
There was a moment of silence before everyone screamed. "Huh?! Then why hype it up so much?!" Eijiro asked. Denki laid his head down on his table and let out a sigh. "I guess it makes sense, given the whole dorm situation and everything."
Katsuki stood up and laughed. "SERVES YOU RIGHT!" He shouted. Everyone knew he was only ecstatic because he wouldn't be allowed to participate in the internships anyway, but they were more concerned over the fact that theirs were being canceled as well.
"However, we can't just pass up this opportunity. It is much harder to cultivate Heroes now. To come up with some kind of compromise, we're only allowing agencies with good and reliable track records to handle first-years."
So… basically, nothing changed. It did limit their options slightly, but most of the internships the students went to before already had good track records anyway. If anything, this only served to annoy Katsuki more.
Once classes ended, Izuku ran straight for the teachers' office. There, he met with All Might to ask about what Gran Torino had told him.
It was a bit of a long conversation, but All Might eventually refused Izuku's request to introduce him to Sir Nighteye, his former sidekick. For one, All Might was one of the teachers who didn't like the idea of first-years doing the internship anyway, not to mention the fact that Izuku had far from mastered the varying styles of his Pokemon. However, the true reason was the fact that he and Nighteye had a very… awkward relationship. The two did not part ways on good terms, and it would be really weird for All Might to just ask him to take in his current student.
However, after some convincing with Izuku, they came to a compromise. He could take the internship with Nighteye, but he couldn't do it through All Might. That's when the Hero called in Mirio Togata, the very same boy who had literally beat the entirety of Class 1-A with a single Pokemon just the day before.
That's when they found out Mirio had already been Nighteye's intern for nearly a year. After discussing it a bit more, the boy agreed to introduce Izuku to Nighteye in All Might's place, much to the first-year's excitement.
As Izuku and Mirio left the meeting room, All Might couldn't help but think. He remembered the last time he spoke to Nighteye and the warning he left him. If All Might hadn't met Izuku, Mirio would have been the one.
That weekend, Izuku made sure to get up early. He would be meeting Mirio at Nighteye's office and he didn't want to be late. They arrived there at around 9am, and safe to say, Izuku was nervous.
"Don't be so uptight!" Mirio said, noticing Izuku's nervousness. "I forgot to mention this, but Sir is a pretty stern guy."
"Y-Yeah, I know…" Izuku replied. "He's strict with everyone, even himself. When I saw him on TV, it was like he was using his Gardevoir to stare right at me. It gave me goosebumps."
Ah yes, Nighteye's famous Gardevoir. She was fast, strong, and best of all, you couldn't hit her. Nighteye and Gardevoir had gone through intense training and they became well-known as an incredibly powerful pair.
"Sounds like Sir Nighteye," Mirio said with a laugh. "But there is one side to him that people don't usually see. When you go see him, before the meeting ends, you need to make him laugh at least once."
The question naturally baffled Izuku. "He seems like a really tough guy, but he really cares about his sense of humor. My recommendation can only go so far. I can't decide whether he takes you in or not, so from here on out, you're on your own to impress Sir Nighteye."
"So, I have another question," Izuku said. "If we just met and all, why are you being so nice to me?" He asked. He was naturally slightly skeptical of Mirio's immediate acceptance of his request. From what he heard from All Might, Nighteye was particularly stingy about who he brought in, so the fact that Mirio instantly accepted the request to recommend him was strange.
"I haven't really given you any special treatment." He said. "You've got a great goal and you're doing the best you can to see it through. Isn't helping someone out what it means to be a Hero? Well, this is just me helping you out. It's a win-win!"
Eventually, the two arrived at Nighteye's door. Mirio pat Izuku on the back and the young boy took in a deep breath. He clenched his fist and with his newfound resolve, he opened the door. "Sir, I brought in-"
"Stop! PLEASE! I'M SORRY!" Izuku was terrified at what he saw. There was a girl with blue hair being held up by Gardevoir's Psychic being tickled with several feathers also being held up by the Psychic-Type. "W-What's going on?"
"That's Sir's sidekick, Bubble Girl. She must've not been funny today."
Nighteye, who was also standing there, turned to Mirio and Izuku. The boys could swear that Nighteye's gaze could cut the air if he wanted to. He had an intense presence, one that only magnified Izuku's nervousness. Still, he knew what he had to do.
He looked up and somehow perfectly replicated All Might's muscle form face, much to Mirio's horror. Nighteye stood up straight and grew angry. "Are you… mocking All Might?!"
Ah, shit…
Nighteye walked up slowly towards Izuku, the boy growing even more terrified with each step. "You did this knowing I was All Might's former sidekick, didn't you?" The boy braced himself when Nighteye just grabbed his face and began examining it. "All Might doesn't have wrinkles like this," Nighteye said.
"The wrinkles around his face are usually around 0.6cm. Since the Silver Age though, his wrinkles usually go to 0.8cm. Even unauthorized merchandise can replicate those wrinkles. Don't you know that?"
Izuku was completely baffled, but when he looked around the room, it made a little more sense. It was completely covered in All Might merchandise. There were posters, toys still in boxes, blankets, towels, every type of merchandise available.
He even had the special All Might 10th-anniversary tapestry! That was super limited! Izuku wanted it so bad but he never got the chance to ever get one. "Please leave immediately," Nighteye said. Izuku knew he messed up, but he wasn't giving up yet.
"The Trubbish River Case," Izuku said. "You know that case, right? The one where a kid with his trubbish fell into the river. All Might saved him, but in his interview after, he kept his eyes closed since all the poison and trash had covered him up! That's the smile I chose!"
Nighteye turned to Izuku and nodded. "Of course, I know about the incident. It happened before I joined him. He mentioned it on a special edition of 'Looking Back' on a show."
"Yeah! That's the one!" Izuku excitedly said. "There wasn't really a Villain so people don't talk about it as much, but I really like it."
Nighteye pushed up his glasses and snapped his fingers, causing Gardevoir to drop Bubble Girl and join him. "Brat, are you testing me?"
That nervousness took over Izuku once again, realizing he had lost control of himself. "A-Ah, no! I'm sorry, sir! It's just that since All Might is our teacher and all, I can't talk about him in this kind of way. I just got carried away."
"Well, the point of that incident wasn't the boy himself, but how he responded to the family." Nighteye continued the conversation. Izuku's smile grew wider and he nodded. "Yeah! He was so cool."
Mirio walked past them and helped Bubble Girl, who was still exhausted, get up. "M-Mirio… who is that?" The boy smiled and helped her to a chair. "That's a freshman from my school." He was pleasantly surprised with how things were going. Sure, he didn't make Nighteye laugh, but it was a good start.
After a brief conversation, Nighteye moved over to his desk where Izuku formally asked him to take him in as an intern. "So the contract from the school?"
"Y-Yes, I have it with me!" Izuku pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Nighteye. "So all I need to do is place my stamp on this piece of paper then everything is settled, is that right?"
"That is correct."
Nighteye looked at the paper then back up at Izuku. "You do realize that this isn't the same as your one-week internship, right? You have to intern for at least a month, and for a freshman with a heavy workload, you'd be missing lessons and it might be difficult to catch up with your peers."
Izuku nodded without hesitation. "I know that, but if I keep my pace with others, I won't be able to reach the top." Nighteye looked at the boy for a second and without saying a word, he lifted his stamp. He slammed it down… but something was wrong.
"Um… s-sir, you seemed to have missed…" Izuku said, but Nighteye didn't seem bothered. "That's because I have no means of stamping this paper. I know what advantages you'd gain from this internship, but why should I hire you? What do I gain?
He pushed up his glasses. "I can already run this agency smoothly with two sidekicks and an intern. What can you do? What can I gain from hiring you? How can you aid society? Those are the things you need to prove before I can even consider you."
"How can I… help society?" Izuku wondered to himself.
Nighteye stood up and snapped his fingers. "Basically, what I'm trying to ask is what can you bring to this agency? I can't just go off of your word. Prove it to me with your actions. Gardevoir, on your guard."
The man handed his stamp to Gardevoir and she looked right at Izuku. "If you want to intern in this agency, you'll have three minutes to try and take this stamp. Once you have it, you'll stamp the paper yourself. Mirio. Bubble Girl. You two head out."
"Yes, sir!" The sidekick and intern called out.
Once they were out, Izuku pulled out his Pokeball. Given the size of the room, he couldn't use Blaziken or Golisopod. That left him with either Riolu or Eevee. He evaluated the situation and knew that he couldn't win this with brute strength. Speed was his best friend here, so he knew his best option.
"Come on out, Eevee!" Izuku called out. Eevee emerged from her Pokeball and landed on the ground, ready for battle.
"Ah, a shiny Eevee. Not bad, but you'll have to do more to impress me. Don't worry, Gardevoir won't use a single move to attack. Don't worry about the office either. Feel free to do whatever you want." Nighteye pushed up his glances and held out his hand, causing Gardevoir to radiate in psychic energy. "Come and get it."
Izuku knew about Nighteye's Gardevoir. He knew what it was capable of and the unique ability it possessed. He quickly whispered something to Eevee, causing her to look at her trainer in confusion. After seeing his face though, she reluctantly agreed and turned back to Gardevoir. The two activated their One for All: Full Cowl and used Sizzly Slide.
See, Nighteye and Gardevoir weren't exactly your typical trainer and Pokemon. For one, Nighteye was what one would call "gifted." He had strong psychic abilities as a trainer and thus, he could communicate telepathically with his Gardevoir. It wasn't perfect from his end, but Gardevoir was essentially able to talk to him without even saying a word.
To add to that, the two had perfected the use of Future Sight. Gardevoirs had the natural ability to see very briefly into the future and most, if not all could use Future Sight. However, their use of Future Sight was very different. Ordinarily, the move would be used to set up a future attack on the opponent. However, rather than using it to attack, Gardevoir would focus her mind and use all of that Psychic energy to see her opponent's future. She could comfortably see up to the next 24 hours of that person or Pokemon's life, and Nighteye could see it as well.
However, there was a single drawback. This type of Future Sight was only used by Nighteye and Gardevoir because it took an immense amount of Psychic power. Normal Psychic Types alone would never be able to do this, but most Gardevoirs themselves wouldn't be able to execute such an ability. It was only through very specific and rigorous training that Nighteye and Gardevoir mastered this skill. Because of this limitation though, Gardevoir would only be able to use Future Sight on a single target every 24 hours. Should she do it more than once or even just look past a person's life within the next 24 hours, she would be out of commission for several days. Suddenly, it was starting to make sense why Mirio and Marshadow had gotten so creative with their use of Spectral Thief.
Eevee continued charging at Gardevoir, but she remained unflinching. "The attack is a faint." Nighteye said as Eevee stopped mid attack and jumped up. "You'll jump over Gardevoir's head and try attacking from behind." Without even paying attention to what he said, Eevee tried to grab the stamp, but Gardevoir simply moved her hand down slightly, keeping it safe. She then tried to go for a Veevee Volley, but Gardevoir just stepped to the side, avoiding the attack.
It was just as Izuku had thought. Gardevoir used her Future Sight on them. Eevee jumped back to Izuku and growled at Gardevoir, but the two had a plan. "Eevee!" Izuku discreetly pointed at his bag and the Pokemon nodded in response. "Use your speed!" He said.
Eevee charged up once again and dashed at Gardevoir, jumping back and forth and making several attempts to grab the stamp, all failing. She then jumped back and while still in midair, she quickly grabbed Izuku's bag and threw it at Gardevoir. Long before the bag even reached her though, Izuku swung his arm, signaling Eevee to dash forward with a Veevee Volley.
She did as instructed, but was shocked to find herself slamming into the wall, along with Izuku's bag. They then saw Gardevoir standing in the corner of her room, holding up the stamp in her hand. "Well? Hurry up and show me. What can I gain by hiring you? One minute has passed. What will you do?"
Izuku and Eevee stepped back to reevaluate their position. How in the world would they overcome Future Sight?! If they could see their movements, then how could they even hope to catch her?
"You know, I had hope for that power of yours," Nighteye said, catching Izuku and Eevee off-guard. "That Eevee of yours is special, but her signature move is mediocre at best. In an era where evil is running rampant and people cling on to any kind of hope, I think One for All should have been passed on to Mirio."
"One for All… to Togata?" Izuku took a step back, genuinely hurt by Nighteye's words. His insult only served to make Eevee angry, but she didn't make a move without orders from her trainer. "Until now, I have nothing but the utmost respect for All Might. But when it comes to succession, I don't trust his judgment."
That's… no. Based on everything Nighteye had just said, that must have meant that Mirio was the initial choice to inherit One for All. If he hadn't met All Might, then Mirio would be the one with this power right now. Nighteye was saying it should've been Mirio and that Izuku didn't deserve One for All.
"When Mirio brought you in, I was quite shocked. However, this was my chance to finally tell you, there are a lot of people out there more suitable to inherit One for All. That's why I refuse to acknowledge you."
Izuku clenched his fist and remembered All Might's encouragement. He refused to reply to Nighteye right now and turned to Eevee. "Let's crank it up. Move so fast to the point that he can't react." Eevee nodded and hesitated for a second, but after letting out a sigh, she began bouncing from wall to wall. She could feel Izuku's determination. How could he let this slide after everything he and All Might had gone through together. All Might picked HIM as a successor. This was HIS power.
Combined with her anger, Eevee increased her speed, bouncing from wall to wall with blinding speeds. "I'll prove to you that I am worthy!" Izuku shouted as Eevee continued building up speed. Eventually, Izuku lifted his finger slightly. Eevee managed to see it and saw it as a signal, stopping right behind Gardevoir and going in for a grab, but she simply moved her hand down, avoiding the attack.
"So what? You're just a crappy version of Torino's Hawlucha?" Eevee growled before Izuku snapped his fingers. She began bouncing once again with Veevee Volley and went in for several more strikes, but Gardevoir avoided them with ease.
"No matter what you do, when you do it, and how fast you do it, I can see everything you're doing," Nighteye said. "And by the way, by the end of the three minutes, your Eevee will be on the ground, and you won't have a stamp in hand."
He pushed up his glasses and saw the nervousness and anxiety on Izuku's face. "You keep showing me that face. I'm sure All Might taught you that to be a great Hero, you can't show recklessness or fear in your face."
In desperation, Izuku ordered Eevee to speed it up and she began moving at even faster speeds, bouncing from wall to wall. "Those who understand that can act on a vision in their mind. That should be the basic mentality of a Hero, yet you've failed to even show me that. You said you wanted me to see you were worthy, but the more you show, the more baffled I am that he even considered you as a choice."
Izuku, now completely outraged, clenched his fist and walked over to a bookshelf, refusing to look at Nighteye. "He told me I'd be… I'd be…"
"What? An unimportant and unremarkable person?"
"NO! He told me I'd be a great Hero!" Nighteye's eyes widened in shock. He certainly didn't expect that, and Gardevoir felt that. Eevee used this brief moment of shock to move behind Gardevoir. Once she was in position, Izuku picked up two books and threw them at Nighteye.
"Sappy Seed!" Eevee looked at her trainer who was pointing to the bookshelf and nodded. She slammed the ground, causing a large plant stalk to emerge from under the shelf. The books and files came flying out right in front of Gardevoir, very briefly obscuring her view.
This was their plan. They knew nothing when it came down to how Future Sight even worked. They knew that it allowed Nighteye and Gardevoir to see the future, but what exactly were they seeing? There was no way to know for sure, but if it was seeing Gardevoir's future through her own eyes, seeing all future actions Eevee would take, or even seeing the world through Eevee's eyes, then this had to be an option. By obscuring their view even for just a moment, they could find an opening.
"All Might chose us!" Eevee charged right at Gardevoir with Veevee Volley, and just when it seemed like they had it, Gardevoir quickly moved her arm up and stepped to the side, causing Eevee to miss entirely. "What we saw can't change. You can't change what is already written."
Izuku shook his head. "No, it's not over yet. There's still- AH! EEVEE STOP!" Caught completely off-guard, Eevee slammed into the wall and fell to the ground. Izuku ran up to her and check if she was alright, and fortunately, she was perfectly fine, just a little rattled.
"And that's three minutes," Nighteye said. Izuku looked down in shame. "Sorry, Eevee." He said. She purred sadly, standing back up. Gardevoir handed Nighteye back the stamp and he let out a sigh. "You said you were All Might's chosen apprentice. How preposterous. Because your strategy didn't work out, you got flustered and allowed your Pokemon to get hurt. What happened?"
Izuku sat back up and shook his head. "Both of us weren't stunned by missing an attack or anything. It's because… Eevee almost hit the All Might Super Limited Edition 10th Anniversary Tapestry…"
Both Nighteye and Gardevoir were completely shocked by this and looked around. Izuku and Eevee… completely avoided every single piece of All Might memorabilia in the office… all while nearly perfectly replicating Gran Torino's Hawlucha's movements?! With that speed?!
Nighteye looked to Izuku and saw him sitting there sadly, scratching Eevee on the top of her head. When he had provoked him earlier, Izuku got flustered. He could tell he and Eevee were both angry, yet they still took into account their surroundings and weren't just jumping around aimlessly. Their movements seemed random, but it was all calculated.
Nighteye placed a hand over his chin and looked at Gardevoir. The Pokemon smiled and nodded right before Mirio and Bubble Girl came back into the room, slamming the door open with their hands up.
"Is it over?" Mirio asked. "We heard a loud sound!" Bubble Girl said in an excited tone. Nighteye looked to them and nodded. "I'm hiring him."
"Yes!" Mirio shouted, but the statement completely caught Izuku and Eevee off-guard. "Huh?! W-What?! Why?! We couldn't even get the stamp!"
"I told you to stamp the contract yourself, but I never said I wouldn't hire you if you failed," Nighteye said. He snapped his fingers and Gardevoir brought the contract to him with Psychic. "When I heard you were coming, I already decided I wanted to work with you. I also confirmed just now that what I heard wasn't just rumors, but that doesn't mean I think you're worthy."
He walked over to Izuku and handed him his contract. "What people are looking for now isn't just a glimmer of hope, but a bright light. Even if it goes against my better judgment, I want you to work at a Pro Agency so that you can learn who's more suitable." He then dropped the stamp into the boy's hand, allowing him to choose if he would work there or not. He hadn't seen anything past those three minutes, so he didn't know what he'd choose. While the choice may have seemed obvious, Nighteye knew his words cut deep, so he wouldn't blame the boy for not choosing to work there.
Still, despite everything, Izuku knew what he had to do. He looked at Eevee and smiled. He knew why Nighteye wanted to hire him. He wanted Izuku to see that Mirio was better so that he'd give up One for All. All Might chose him to inherit One for All, but Nighteye refuses to acknowledge him because he thinks Mirio is worthy. Even though these aren't very favorable circumstances… "I look forward to learning from you," Izuku said, stamping the contract.
That night, when Izuku returned to the dorms, everyone there congratulated him on getting an internship with connections to Mirio. Everyone had been struggling to get any internships, but that all changed when Aizawa entered the room.
He informed them that a few had gotten some offers. For one, Fumikage had gotten a request from none other than Hawks, the currently ranked number three Hero. With All Might retired, he was essentially the number two. This was completely shocking, but considering Tokoyami's strength and affinity for Pokemon in the air, it wasn't too out of nowhere.
Eijiro had also gotten a request to meet up with Tamaki Amajiki, one of the other Big Three. Similarly, Nejire Hado, the final member of the group, had requested to see both Ochako and Tsuyu. Things were getting interesting.
