Chapter Nine

The Story Of The Ghost Biker

Sonic, Amy and the gang followed Sherriff Joe to the police station down the street a few blocks down from City Hall.

For a police officer, especially someone who was the town sheriff, Joe was a nice man. He gave the group some tea after they arrived and one of his secretaries even offered Sonic a chili-dog, despite Scooby trying to nab it from the speedster, to the hedgehog's dismay. But who could blame Scooby anyway, he was one hungry dog.

Once everyone was settled, Joe cleared his vocal cords. "Brace yourselves, fellas." He said, "This here tale I'm about to divulge is quite intense, this is the Ghost Biker we're talkin' about, but there is more to him than meets the eye since he wasn't always like that.

"Plenty of people like myself know the story of what happened to him, who he used to be and how he became what he is to this very day."

"So, who is the Ghost Biker?" Sonic asked, "Aside from bein' a creepy dude with a flaming skull, riding around on a motorbike with red eyes and doing that chain lasso thing."

"And this is where we start…" Joe began to explain, "A long time ago, there was a fella named Steve Wilson, a motorcycle rider. He was famous, competed in many motorcycle rallies and often performed at stunt shows.

But then, things went downhill due to bad luck as Steve had motorcycle accidents, crashed a lot, and wound up losin' a race. One day, after a disastrous race, he was at home alone when someone came to him in the form of his father, Rukford H. Wilson…"

Steve sat on his bed in his room, tears rolling down his face. He was lucky that he didn't have a broken arm or a leg, but it hurt. He'd been having bad luck lately, even today. Maybe tomorrow he would do better, but if he failed again and again, what would he do with his life if he had to retire?

He lay down, thinking it over, hoping for something to happen. Then...

"Steve."

Steve turned, seeing a man with a clean, shaven face in a suit, standing right by his bed. He recognized this man, he knew his face well. The down-on-his-luck motorcyclist stood, filled with surprise and hope. "Dad…?" He breathed, "DAD!"

He threw himself onto the man before him, hugging the man who was his father. His father returned the hug, but when Steve felt more hope in his life than ever, the man who appeared to be his father said, "I... I'm not really your father, I'm just... assuming his form to make you feel better."

Steve pulled away, shocked, wondering what was going on.

"Who are you?" He asked.

"My name is Maniphesterio." The man said, "No titles necessary, just Maniphesterio. You, Mr. Wilson, seem to be having bad luck. Losing motorcycle races, at least you're not experiencing accidents at stunt shows.

"I can help you, if you believe in magic and luck, that is. I can bless you with the power of Rus'kli-fro'noko, the ancient blessing of sorcerers and spirits."

"Yes…" The motorcyclist said, sounding interested in the offer, "But hold on, this isn't gonna count as making a deal with demons, is it? You're not some sort of demon or..."

"Do not fear, Steve Wilson." Maniphesterio assured, "I am not a manipulative trickster. Now, since you are desperate, I shall bestow upon you the blessing of the universe." He held out his hand and chanted; 'O'laki, ra'ru, si'lok-mor'hal, wi'la-vu'mahka'ro-vei'sahl, o'na'ma-rilo'tu-vai, lo'na'ho!"

A light filled the room and, when Steve recovered his vision, the entity taking the form of his father had vanished and he was alone in the house...

"Steve slept on it all night." Joe went on, "And at the next motorcycle rally, Steve raced like he usually did and, while out there, it appeared that the blessing worked. He didn't crash, he didn't fall behind the other bikers.

"Steve Wilson raced like never before, it was as if he'd returned to his prime, and performed very well, and prevailed again, ensuring that he was still the best of the best.

"He kept racing at every rally, feeling like the luckiest man in the world. But of course, things took a turn eventually, but not at the rallies or in a race. He still came out on top. No, it all happened one night under a full moon, as Steve was heading home from a rally..."

He drove across the desert on his Wildfire 300 motorcycle, a cloud of dust rolling up into the sky behind him. Up above, the stars glistened and the moon shone radiantly. Steve felt lucky, nobody could defeat him as the greatest biker ever and his life couldn't have been more blessed than ever before.

What could possibly happen now, how could things go wrong for him?

Steve rode through the night, feeling optimistic and hopeful. His family was proud of him, even his real father would be proud too. But, why did part of him have a feeling that something was amiss.

Just then, a strange noise filled his ears. Steve frowned and scratched his ears, confused. He cut the gas, the motorcycle rolled to a stop. Steve looked out at the desert, feeling a cold wind, hearing a guest of wind. This was strange, there wasn't supposed to be another sandstorm for a really long time. But he heard it, wind blowing. Then he heard a voice, a sinister voice in the wind.

"The time has come!" The voice repeated, "It is time, it's time, the time is now!"

'What the heck...'

Steve felt himself shivering, he was wearing leather, that was impossible. Then, he felt light-headed. More peculiar, very, very strange indeed. Laughter carried across the air, he heard the voices again, he was feeling colder by the minute. Then he felt a blazing heat in the bottom of his shoes, he looked at his feet, wondering why he was smelling smoke. Then...

Orange ethereal fire erupted from the soles, Steve yelped in pain and fell over, taken by surprise. He howled, finding himself being engulfed in an ominous glow of light. He looked up at the sky, thinking he saw a sinister demonic face in the moon, looking at him and cackling. Perhaps it was just a hallucination, he was seeing things, while something was happening to him.

Laughter filled his ears, then he realized that it was his own laughter. Steve felt his eyes glowing, glowing bright red. He could see everything in red, he reached up to touch his head, feeling no flesh now, only bone and fire.

Steve, the creature that used to be Steve, put his foot on the pedal of the bike and rode off into the night, filled with an intense desire to cause trouble and terrorize everyone.

"...And since then, he's been ridin' around, causin' trouble wherever he goes." Joe finished narrating, "When you wander at night and if you hear a motorbike engine rumbling and see the ethereal glow of the Biker, you do not want to wind up in his crosshairs.

"If you do and he sees you, run and find a place to hide, because you might not make it out alive, unless you get lucky..."

The town sheriff finished his story, leaving everyone in the room to take it in. Shaggy and Scooby were trembling, even Velma and Daphne were a little disturbed. Sonic hugged Amy, comforting her as she hugged him with a small whimper.

"Wow, somethin' tells me this guy may be more challenging than the others." Fred said, "That chain he was wielding looked dangerous and Sonic says it burned him."

"Yeah." Sonic remarked, rubbing his arms, "It was so smokin' hot, I'm gonna have to take a shower when Amy and I get back to the motel room." He brushed his arm and blew on his shoulders, making sure there weren't any smoldering marks on him, until Amy held his hand.

"I think you're fine, Sonic." Amy told him.

"And this Ghost Biker's been at large for thirty years straight?" Velma asked.

"That's quite a long time…" Sonic quipped, "And no doubt he's been to a lot of places since..."

"Yes, he even came by Gotham City a month ago."

Everyone turned. Sitting on a bench, eying them from behind a black mask, was a tall man wearing a cape and an outfit with a bat symbol.

"Zoinks! Batman!" Shaggy exclaimed.

"How long have you been sitting there, dude?" Sonic asked.

"I just came in here…" Batman said in his gravely voice, "Now, if you don't mind. Allow me to tell you of my encounter. Last month, I was stopping Joker's scheme from blowing up the Gotham plaza.

"I'd just knocked out Harley and was calling the police to take him into custody when I heard motorcycle engines and saw the Ghost Biker rolling into town, throwing grenades and smacking people with his chain.

"He didn't have a chance to subject me to what people call his Shadow Stare, I made my way up to the roof just before he rode by.

"Joker tried to escape, but I knocked him unconscious long enough for the police to take back to Arkham Asylum. Now you know. You guys take care of the case, the Batman has places to be at this time and I was just visiting."

Batman walked out of the police station and headed off into the darkness. However, Sonic blasted out the door and intercepted the Dark Knight halfway across the street.

"Yo, Batman." Sonic asked, "What brings you here to Resort Town anyway?"

"Heard The Joker was seen here in town..." Batman replied, "Just making sure he doesn't cause trouble, especially since I'm on vacation too, but the world still needs Batman. Robin and Nightwing have things covered back in Gotham. Now, if you excuse me, this cameo can be so long..."

Batman pulled out his grappling hook and fired at the nearest rooftop, the hook latched onto a pipe atop the roof of an apartment and Batman let it drag him up to the top.

Sonic watched as the caped crusader disappeared into the night, leaving him alone with Amy and the gang as the exited the police station.

"Joker is here in town?" Amy asked, she'd overheard.

"Apparently." Sonic shrugged, "Man, Arkham's got some lame security if he's gonna escape to keep menacing Gotham City."

From a distance, a white-faced man with green hair in a purple suit watched, irked by Sonic's comments.

He hmphed irritably and smirked before moving into the shadows, vanishing inside an alleyway. Across the street, a woman in a red-black outfit with a mask rolled her eyes and closed the window.

Harley Quinn pulled out her phone and texted Ivy, informing her of what she'd seen and heard, telling her that Batman was in town and that Sonic had called Arkham's security lame.

"You get a feeling that someone was watching us?" Daphne asked outside in the streets.

"I think we should hit the hay." Fred said with a yawn, "That'll help us, maybe in the morning we'll try to figure out how we kick that crazy biker's butt. And I have a strange feeling that Ghost Biker guy may have been someone in a mask with very convincing special effects..."

"Gotta catch that guy first, Fred." Sonic remarked.

"Yeah, like, that's so right." Shaggy nodded.

Everyone agreed and headed back to the motel, saying good night to each other.

Shaggy and Scooby went to their motel room and fetched some snacks to calm their nerves, especially after the intensity of tonight, while Velma turned on her computer in her room and began posting on her mystery blog about what had happened.

In Room 69, Fred removed his shirt and was about to hop into bed when he saw Daphne laying on her side a light-purple bra and a matching thong, eyeing him with a smirk.

Fred dropped his jeans and climbed onto bed, Daphne looked so stunning. The orange-haired mystery solver cupped Fred's cheeks and fingered his shoulder seductively.

Then she leaned closer to him and whispered sweetly in his ear, "You could use some relief before we think about solving the mystery, scarf boy."

His cheeks flushing, Fred nodded and Daphne pushed him onto his back.

She climbed atop her boyfriend, pinning him to the bed and leaning over him with an eager smile. Fred's hands moved to grasp her hips, pulling Daphne closer and they melted into a hard kiss as relieving love filled the room.

Down the hall in Room Twenty-Three, Sonic had kicked off his shoes and removed his gloves, wiping some sweat off his forehead, he needed a shower.

The hedgehog walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower, letting the water rinse him. Just then, right as he was getting into the shower, Sonic heard the door close and turned to see Amy approaching him in a bathrobe.

The pink hedgehog untied the bundle while eying her boyfriend with a smirk and threw the robe aside, allowing Sonic to see she was wearing a black G-string that accentuated her figure.

Amy entering the shower, swaying her shapely hips in a suggestive manner as the water rained down on her too. She came closer and closer, her arms wrapping around Sonic's neck and Amy pressed her slender figure against the hedgehog's lean stature.

"Don't mind if I join you, Sonikku…?" Amy asked.

Unable to take his eye off the sight of his girlfriend wearing a black G-string, the blue hedgehog nodded and invited Amy to join him as steam rose around them from the hot shower. Amy kissed Sonic on the cheek and they embraced passionately.

And before long, the shower was filled with the sounds of two hedgehogs making love...
