Rin opened her eyes and looked to her left, listening to the pitter-patter of rain on the tent's roof. The sleeping bag was still empty. How long had Len been gone for? She checked her phone, groaning at the sudden bright light. Two hours? Really Len? How long did it take to go to the bathroom?
Rin groaned again and stood up. Guess she'd have to find him herself. She slipped on a pair of socks and her shoes before pulling a pair of keys out of her shorts. Rin grinned to herself. Maybe looking for Len would be easier with this baby.
"Tei?" Miku called. "Len? Are you down here?"
"Miku?" Len's voice called from further down the hall.
"Yeah! We found some beds! Come back!"
There was a long pause before Len's voice rang through the hall again, this time closer. "Where are you?"
"Over here!" Miku yelled. "Follow my voice!" She started to yell about random subjects (mostly leeks), while two sets of footsteps got closer. Finally, the other two singers rounded the corner and Miku stopped talking.
"Where are the beds?" Tei asked.
"Upstairs, c'mon." They started walking towards the bedrooms when suddenly, they heard a door close.
"James?"
They froze as someone rounded the corner. It was the same boy from before.
"The ghost!" Tei whispered loudly.
"You guys saw it too?!" Luka whispered back.
"Um…" The ghost started, speaking with a British accent. "Hello? Who are you?"
They all screamed and ran further down the hall, tripping over each other while making a ridiculous amount of noise.
The boy scratched his head. "What's with them?"
Farther down the hall, Luka, Miku, Len, and Tei had finally slowed down and were catching their breath.
"So… So this place is haunted?" Miku gasped, leaning heavily against the wall.
"Apparently." Len responded as he slid down the wall. "That kid looks really creepy! What's with all the bandages?"
"He looks like you." Luka said.
"I don't look like I lost a fight with a lawnmower."
Luka shrugged.
"What do we do?" Miku asked. "We can't leave because of the storm, but we can't stay because of the ghost!"
"I say we kill it." Tei chimed in.
"He's already dead!" Len yelled.
"True."
"Hey, wasn't he talking about some guy named James?" MIku said. "I read about this kinda thing once! We need to find the James guy so his spirit can rest peacefully!"
"We have no idea who this 'James' is, let alone if he's even alive. Besides, that kid can't be a ghost. Ghosts aren't real." Luka said bluntly.
"You seemed pretty scared when we were running from him." Miku put her hands on her hips.
Len drowned them out as he heard a faint chirping noise. "Guys!" The two stopped bickering and turned to him. "Do you hear that?" The four went quiet, and sure enough, there was the chirping again.
Len slowly started walking towards the source- an old wooden door. He glanced back at the girls, who nodded him on, before he gulped and pulled open the door. There was a fluttering noise and Len squeaked as a yellow blur came flying out at him. Len covered his head and felt something touch his arm.
"Is that a bird?" Miku asked.
Len took his arm down, and sure enough, there was a small yellow bird perched on his arm, cocking its head slightly. "Where did this guy come from?"
Luka bent over to get a better look. "I think it's some type of finch." She said. "Where do you think it came from?"
Tei shrugged. "Why do we even care? It seems to like Len, though." As if to prove her point, the finch climbed all the way up Len's arm and nestled into his hair.
"It's cute!" Miku grinned. "Let's keep it!"
"For now, I suppose." Luka sighed, crossing her arms. "Look, we need to deal with the problem at hand. What do we do about the ghost?"
"Let's make a ghost trap!" Tei suggested.
"How do we do that?" Luka sighed again.
"Well…" Miku started. "We can set a normal trap, and then surround it with a ring of salt!"
"Salt?" Len asked.
"Yeah! Ghosts can't cross a salt line!" Miku said energetically.
"Who told you that?" Luka cocked an eyebrow.
"Well, there was this show on once about some dudes hunting for ghosts, and they trapped the ghost in a salt line and saved some girl! The ghost started freaking out, 'cause it couldn't leave!"
"Was it a fictional show?"
"...Maybe…"
Luka sighed for what had to be the third time.
"It's worth a try!" Len said. "Rin taught me how to make a trap once, I can probably remember."
"Great!" Miku clapped her hands. "Let's go!"
I'm probably gonna post another chapter today. I can't update as often now because of school and stuff, but I promise I'm not going to leave the story alone for a month again. Actually, for all I know I might keep up the constant updates, but don't expect a ton of chapters. The last part (or parts) of the haunted mansion should be up either today or tomorrow.
Thanks for reading!
