-- 23rd August 2016 --
The New York Institute, like New York City, never sleeps. The place a constant buzz of activity, talking and laughter float out of the cafeteria, some relaxing after a mission, others quickly devouring there food before their shift. Grunts, yells, thuds and crashes of metal upon metal echo from the weapons room as people spar and train. The rustle of pages and the odd whisper lingers in the large Library, a sharp contrast to the Op room which is full of indistinctive chatter as people plan and debrief their missions.
Slightly separated from the main institute, a corridor leads out into a beautiful glass domed Greenhouse, the place and explosion of flowers and plants native to Idris with a variety of other rare but useful plants. The greenhouse would seem empty if not for the absent humming echoing slightly around the greenhouse.
Surrounded by small bushes full of small white flowers, a young woman lays hidden from the world, admiring the sunset shining through the greenhouse's domed roof. The woman goes silent with a sigh and seems to melt further into the ground with every breath she takes, the unique smell of the combined scents of all the flowers causing her to close her eyes contently.
A broad figure enters the greenhouse, their steps silent as they approach the bushes the woman is hidden behind. If one saw the scene, they may liken the figure to a Lion hunting his prey, his steps steady and sure as he silently approaches his prey
The man comes to a stop on the other side of the bushes and feels his heart stutter as he looks down at the woman carelessly splayed on the ground, her light brown skin seemingly glowing in the retreating sunlight.
"Are you just going to stare?" The woman asks her voice filled with mirth and her eyes still closed.
"Well, the view is beautiful." The man returns, his blue eyes fond as his lips pull into a slight smirk.
"Charmer." Phoenix accuses, lazily opens her hazel eyes and smiling up at the man.
"Only for you." The man smirks, offering her his hands over the bushes.
Phoenix laughs lightly and places her hands in his allowing him to help her up and over the bushes.
"I would hope so." Phoenix muses, brushing a strand of golden hair out of his eyes before gently cupping his face, her thumb gently brushing against the apples of his cheeks.
Phoenix smiles, rising to her tip toes to lay a quick kiss on his cheek.
Jace chuckles looking at her with mock disappointment.
"You missed, I guess that's why i'm the best Shadowhunter of this generation." Jace tuts, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her towards him.
Phoenix narrows her eyes at him as Jace smiles at her playfully before he ducks down and gently presses his lips to hers.
"Sir I am a taken woman; I cannot be seen kissing some scoundrel in the greenhouse. What will my boyfriend think?" Phoenix gasps pushing him away and holding a hand to her chest as she takes a few steps back, her lips twitching.
Jace gapes at her a moment before snorting.
"One, I'm not a scoundrel!" Jace says, taking a step towards her.
"You totally are." Phoenix protests, taking another step back, and pointing at him accusingly.
"Two, I don't think your boyfriend would mind you kissing somebody else" Jace ignores her and takes the last few steps towards her, trapping her in his arms again.
"He totally would." Phoenix laughs, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"I totally would." Jace agrees, his lips brushing against hers before suddenly he finds himself looking up at the painted sky, Phoenix standing above him a boot pressed against his chest.
"Who's the best Shadowhunter again?" Phoenix asks, holding a hand to her ear mockingly.
Jace rolls his eyes and laughs, shaking his head as he smiles up at her adoringly.
"That was sneaky." Jace accuses, pushing himself onto his elbows as Phoenix removes her foot from his chest.
"That was clever." Phoenix corrects him, holding out her hand and helping pull him to his feet.
"If you were anybody else." Jace shakes his head and straightens his leather jacket.
"You would have beaten them" Phoenix interjects, stepping into his space again and smiling up at him cheekily as she brushes her fingers through his hair to put it back in place.
"You're lucky we have somewhere to be else I would demand a rematch." Jace says, chuckling when he spots a leaf in Phoenix's hair
"Where?" Phoenix asks, confused as Jace plucks the leaf out of her dark brown hair.
"We're going hunting later. I volunteered to find you and escaped before anyone could protest." Jace explains, pressing a quick kiss to her nose.
"Well this is our spot, I would be worried if after all these years you couldn't find me." Phoenix laughs lightly.
"I will always find you." Jace says simply, locking eyes with her and gently brushing her dark hair out of her face.
Phoenix smiles warmly, her entire being filling with warmth as she raises her hand to cup Jace's face.
Jace closes his eyes, leaning into her hand a gentle sigh escaping his lips.
"Like I'd go far in the first place." Phoenix teases him gently, Jace chuckles slightly just as she rises to her tip toes and kisses him, her other arm coming to wrap around him.
Jace closes his eyes and cradles her face, moving his lips gently against hers. Enjoying the pure comfort and love that simple action gives him.
"Do you think they'll notice if we don't show up?" Jace asks, murmuring the words against her lips, unwilling to move any further away from her than necessary.
"I think our Parabatai may notice if we don't show up for a mission." Phoenix murmurs back her lips brushing his.
Jace feels his breath catch and his chest tighten as Phoenix tilts her head to look up at him with a look of pure adoration.
Jace lowers his lips back to hers, holding her tightly against him as he kisses her fiercely for but a moment before reluctantly pulling back before she could react.
"What was that for?" Phoenix gasps lightly, a slight pout on her face at the fact he pulled away so quickly.
"One for the road." Jace shrugs mischievously, his eyes drawn to her pouting lips. Taking a deep breath he takes her hand and begins to lead her out of the greenhouse.
"Bullshit, you did that on purpose." Phoenix argues, narrowing her eyes at him playfully as he throws her a smug smirk over his shoulder.
"I don't know what you're on about."
Phoenix smirks, and just as he steps out the greenhouse and down the single step, she leans up on her tippy toes and kisses the back of his neck.
Jace freezes and spins around to see Phoenix looking at him innocently.
"Nix." Jace says lowly, stepping back up the step, forcing her to walk backwards into the greenhouse.
"What are you doing Jace? We have a mission." Phoenix asks mock confused and goes to push past him only for him to grab her arm and push her against one of the trees, pinning her to it with his body.
"We have time." Jace smirks, before lowering his lips to hers.
--
"Where have you been?" Isabelle asks playfully, sitting at her vanity, seeing Phoenix race into her bedroom through the mirror and slam the door behind her.
"In the greenhouse." Phoenix explains, quickly in inscribing the locking rune on the door and making her way into Isabelle's ensuit, not bothering to close the door behind her.
"If he wasn't my brother I would totally be asking for details." Isabelle sighs, putting down her curling wand and getting up from the vanity, tightening her silk red robe around her.
"We were in the greenhouse; I may be into some things but public sex is not one of them." Phoenix laughs, quickly stripping from her casual clothes and hopping into the shower.
"That hickey says otherwise." Isabelle smirks, leaning against the bathroom door and gesturing to the hickey on her collarbone.
"I may have teased him a little bit too much." Phoenix admits sheepishly, squirting some shampoo in her and and scrubbing it into her shoulder length hair.
"And why are you in my shower and not yours?" Isabelle asks, raising an eyebrow at her.
"Jace needed a shower as well, and he doesn't have enough restraint for me to shower with him." Phoenix explains, shrugging as she tilts her head back to rinse the shampoo out of her hair.
"Why did Jace need a shower? I thought he had one this morning?" Isabella asks confused, in fact she knows he did because he was in the shower when she came to drag Phoenix away that morning.
"I may have pushed him into one of the flower beds and ran for it." Phoenix confesses mishevioisly, struggling not to laugh at the image of Jace running after her covered in dirt.
"I would have paid to see that!" Isabella laughs, pushing off from the door way and going back to her vanity.
--
"Isabelle lets go!" Alec says exasperated, knocking on her door for the fifth time.
"Calm down, she's coming Xander, we just had a bit of a wig crisis." Phoenix says as she exits the room with a roll of her eyes and wraps an arm around him.
"Wig crisis? Why does she need a wig?" Alec frowns automatically wrapping an arm around her shoulders as they start to make there way down the corridor.
"She's going to be the distraction." Phoenix shrugs, pulling Alec to a stop in front of her room.
"That still doesn't explain the wig." Alec says dryly, raising his eyebrow raising an eyebrow at her.
"Hey there big bro." Isabelle greets, her high heels clacking on the floor announcing her arrival as she walks towards them in her white leather two piece, consisting of a short skirt and exposing crop top.
"You two go ahead I need to grab something." Phoenix says, quickly walking into her room.
"Really?" Alec says in disbelief, barely resisting the urge to roll his eyes.
"What can I say Demons dig blondes." Isabelle sighs, stroking the wig in her hand as her and Alec make their way down the corridor.
"Course they do. That's white." Alec states, sliding a fingerless glove on and pointing at the wig.
"Platinum." Isabelle corrects, "and they don't exactly like Shakespeare Alec." She adds sarcastically, gesturing to him vaguely.
"You're plenty distracting on your own." Alec hints, not wanting his little sister to go out like that despite knowing it's a lost cause and she can kick ass if need be.
"So be yourself, is that what you're saying?" Isabelle smiles at him cheekily.
"Never mind." Alec groans, realising that she is not getting what he means and if he says it directly, she'll go all female rights on him.
"I think what he's saying is that you are stunning no matter what you wear." Phoenix interjects, quickly falling into step with them as they enter the control room. "But as your older siblings we are not letting you leave the institute without a coat." She adds, lifting her arm with the trench coat hung over it to draw attention to it.
"What? You too? You helped me pick the outfit!" Isabelle exclaims in disbelief.
"Thank you!" Alec exclaims in relief.
"But that doesn't mean you can't strip from it when a distraction is needed." Phoenix winks at Isabelle who giggles, pulling both of them to a stop as they reach the stairs and quickly handing Alec the wig.
"Why did the Angel's curse me with two little sisters." Alec sighs, wrinkling his nose up at the wig in his hands.
"You love us." Phoenix laughs, helping Isabelle to shrug on the black trench coat and tying it together at the front.
"Unfortunately." Alec shakes his head slightly, his lips twitching as they both give him a cheeky grin.
"Admit it, you would be lost without us." Isabelle smiles as she takes the wig from Alec as they all go down the stairs, heading straight towards Jace.
"Nice choice Izzy, Demons dig blondes." Jace praises once they get closer, wrapping an arm around Phoenix who comes to stand next to him automatically.
"Told you." Isabelle tells Alec smugly, who rolls his eyes at her.
"It's platinum." Alec corrects Jace, flashing Isabelle a smirk.
"I will get you back for that stunt earlier." Jace murmurs to Phoenix lowly as Alec and Isabelle continue to banter.
"I don't know what you're on about." Phoenix says innocently, fluttering her eyelids at him mockingly.
Jace narrows his eyes at her, the upturn of his lips betraying his amusement.
"We'll continue this later." Jace warns her, squeezing her hip lightly.
"I am so scared." Phoenix gasps, widening her eyes dramatically.
"All right guys, for some reason our demon friends are killing Mundane's and draining their blood." Jace interrupts Alec and Isabelle before they can continue to bicker.
"Think you can track it?" Jace asks Phoenix, gesturing to the giant screen.
"Can I track it? Please." Phoenix scoffs and turns to the board her fingers flying over the screen.
"Silly question really." Jace agrees squeezes Phoenix's hip before letting go of her and leading the way to the one of the weapons rooms.
"Why do they want blood? Isn't that vampire territory?" Alec asks, him and Isabelle falling into step either side of Jace as they ascend the steps into the weapons room.
"I don't know Alec, that's what we need to find out, Lazy Vampires maybe?" Jace guesses, approaching the floor to ceiling screen.
"There must be something special about the blood." Isabelle states, adjusting the snake bracelet on her wrist.
"What could be so special about Mundane blood?" Alec asks slightly incredulously; mundane blood is just that, mundane.
Jace presses his fingers to the screen next to the safe, making their weapons cabinet open after reading his fingertips.
"You get me a sample and I'll tell you exactly what they're looking for." Isabelle says confidently accepting the broad sword from Jace.
"We'll have more answers when we figure out exactly who the demons are working for." Jace states, taking his own broad sword out of the safe as well as two long wicked looking daggers.
"So you don't think they're acting on their own?" Isabelle asks, Jace having been the one to read the brief whilst they were getting ready.
"No." Jace says, exiting the weapons room with Isabelle and Alec close behind.
"There not exactly creative thinkers." Alec says, stepping of the last step and following the other two to Phoenix.
"Definitely not creative thinkers, especially Raveners, but if we were talking about Greater Demons it would be a whole other ball game." Phoenix agrees, hearing the tail end of their conversation.
"You got anything?" Isabelle asks, coming to stand next to her as Jace stands behind Phoenix and retracts the blades of the daggers sliding them into her individual thigh sheaths on each leg.
"Looks like we're dealing with an Eluthied Demon, this is what our target looks like." Phoenix announces pulling up an image of a young woman with dark red hair and blue eyes after giving Jace a kiss on the cheek in thanks.
"For the moment." Isabelle sighs, before turning to Phoenix with a pout, holding her wig up to her.
"Turn around." Phoenix sighs, handing the wig to Jace and quickly twisting Isabelles hair together and netting it.
"Have you logged the demon onto our surveillance?" Alec asks, examining the demon on screen.
"Yes, we'll get a notification on our phones every time the demon shifts forms and the coordinates will constantly update, so we won't lose the target." Phoenix reassures him, "Like that." She adds as their phones vibrate in there pockets and the photo on screen changes to a young man with brown hair and green eyes wearing a blue beanie.
"He'd be cute if he lost the hat." Isabelle comments, Phoenix laughs as the boys roll their eyes, turning Isabelle around and situating the wig on her head, adjusting it accordingly.
"Great, I'll get approval for the mission." Alec states, also examining the photo on screen.
"Oh come on Alec, by the time you've sent that message we'll have killed six demons." Jace protests, already striding away towards the garage, hoping Alec will follow.
"Besides, its more fun to break the rules than follow them." Isabelle practically sings, quickly following Jace.
"I'm going to get in so much trouble." Alec groans and starts to follow Jace and Izzy, Phoenix falling into step with him.
"Yeah, you will." Phoenix shrugs, looping her arm through his.
"Your support is outstanding." Alec comments dryly, only for Phoenix to grab his arm and wave Jace and Isabelle on who stop to wait for them at the door.
"Well, you would get in trouble." Phoenix corrects, "If I hadn't asked the clave for permission a few hours ago. By the time we get there I'll have gotten approval." she adds mischievously, watching as Alec looks at her in shock.
"You did what?" Alec asks in disbelief, as they slowly make there way to the door.
"I couldn't let my big brother get into trouble. Why do you think you barely ever get brought up on it other than when its an emergency. I always ask for permission a few hours before the mission for Demon hunting, it's not specific but as long as they get a detailed report with all the evidence and information they're fine with it." Phoenix explains, an involuntary smile spreading across her face as they step outside and see Jace scoops Isabelle over his shoulder and spin around.
"Why didn't you say anything." Alec asks, a smile slowly sliding onto his face.
"I've got to let them have some fun, what kind of Parabatai and Girlfriend would I be if I didn't?" Phoenix laughs, Alec grins at her and brings her into a hug.
"You are the best sister, have I told you that?" Alec says, kissing her forehead affectionately.
"You could do with mentioning it more often." Phoenix teases, pulling away from Alec, "Now let's show those suckers how to kick some Demon ass." She adds gesturing to Jace and Izzy who are still fooling around, Izzy squealing as Jace threatens to drop her in a puddle.
"I swears to the angels Jace if you drop me in this puddle I'll make sure you can't have children! Which is a shame because I want nieces and nephews!" Isabelle shouts as Jace holds her in his arms over a large puddle.
Alec and Phoenix laugh and quickly make their way into the garage as Jace puts Isabelle down hastily and steps away gesturing frantically with his hands as he pleads for his manly bits.
Phoenix throws her leg over her motorbike smoothly and starts the engine, the large garage door opening as the sound of a twin engine starts.
Alec and Phoenix share a smirk and drive slowly out of the garage, pausing as they pass Jace and Isabelle, Jace still covering his privates with Isabelle waving her dagger at him.
"If you two are quite finished maybe we should get going before we miss our window?" Alec says dryly, raising an eyebrow at the two's unrepented looks.
"Yeah, I've already had the notification twice." Phoenix comments as Isabelle sheaths her dagger and climbs onto the back of Phoenix's motorbike.
"Last one to the coordinates has to buy food later." Alec exclaims, throwing Jace a smirk and quickly accelerating away, the runes on his black bike glowing in the darkness.
"Keep up bitches!" Isabelle laughs, holding onto Phoenix tightly as she races after Alec, quickly cutting in front of him.
"Oh it is on!" Jace declares, rushing to his bike and quickly mounting it before squealing out of the garage.
--—————————-
Okay, first of what do you think? Do you like Phoenix so far?
Second, I know in the show and books Shadowhunter's don't have vehicles but I always found that really unrealistic in the show because they had so much high tech, sooo I decided to give the four of them motorbikes.
