-- 23rd August 2016 --

"I still can't believe you lot cheated." Jace grumbles, for probably the 20th time that evening, his arms crossed over his chest.

"Whining isn't a good look on you Jace." Isabelle teases, Phoenix snorting lightly from where she's standing next to Izzy surveying through all nearby surveillance cameras on her phone.

"Don't even get me started on you. You didn't even get you're motorbike you just hopped on with Nix." Jace accuses, narrowing his eyes at his little sister who just grins at him mischievously.

"You're just bummed that you're footing the after-mission meal." Alec snorts standing on the edge of the roof, keeping an eye on the demon that walks the streets below.

"And that I got to ride with Nix and not him." Izzy adds cheekily, practically draping herself on Phoenix who glances up with an amused smile.

"Are you going to let them bully me like this Beautiful?" Jace asks, raising an eyebrow at Phoenix.

"You would think you would be used to it after a decade." Phoenix laughs, pocketing her phone and gently untangling herself from Izzy before sauntering up to him.

"But don't worry." Phoenix starts, wrapping her arms around his neck, her fingers immediately playing with the hair at the nape of his neck, and standing on her tippy toes to place her lips near his ear.

"I'll make it up to you."

"Really?" Jace smirks, unfolding his arms from his chest and wrapping them around her waist.

Phoenix hums lightly in confirmation and presses a light kiss upon his cheek.

"With your famous hot chocolate?" Jace asks, his smirk turning into a smile at the feel of her in his arms.

"Yep.

"And cuddles?" Jace checks, nuzzling behind her ear with his nose.

"And cuddles." Phoenix confirms with a light laugh, pulling away to kiss him on the nose.

Alec and Isabelle share a look of shared disgust and amusement.

"As much as we hate to break up the moment-" Isabelle starts amused.

"Which we really don't." Alec interjects smirking, whether they have his blessing or not there are some things a big brother does not need to see or hear!

"The Demon is on the move." Isabelle finishes nodding towards the demon that's walking away from where they stand.

Jace and Phoenix separate, quickly falling into step next to their Parabatai as they follow the demon, all of them refocusing on the mission at hand.

"From what I can see from the CTV cameras, it doesn't seem to be able to see us at all." Phoenix informs them, her eyes scanning the streets below for any sign of another threat.

"Which means it's a weaker demon." Jace comments more than asks, his arm still around Phoenix's waist.

"Which means this is more likely just the delivery boy." Isabelle sighs, her eyes glued to the demon below.

"But when we get a hold of it, we might be able to get some answers as to who's running this thing." Alec states, all of them stopping in tandem at the edge of the roof.

"Everybody know what they're doing?" Alec repeats for probably the 10th time in the last half an hour, tightening the glove on his hand.

"Relax big brother, it will be fun." Isabelle rolls her eyes playfully and quickly jumps of the side of the building and onto the neighbouring one in a blur, her black trench coat billowing dramatically.

"We've got it Alec." Jace reassures him, clapping him on the shoulder and giving Phoenix a swift kiss on the cheek before running off across the rooftops.

"You better get moving if you want to do your last check on whether the demon can see us." Phoenix tells Alec giving him a nudge, as she keeps her eyes on the demon about to pass them.

"I hate it when you read my mind." Alec grumbles playfully, getting ready to leave before pausing when Phoenix's phone dings.

"And that would be our permission." Phoenix winks at Alec, who huffs out a laugh and launches himself into the streets below.

Phoenix turns her focus back to the demon below just as it passes her position. She waits a moment watching it walk further down the street, before jumping off the building when she deems it far enough away. Phoenix smirks lightly as she lands in a crouch on the street, she will never get tired of that feeling of adrenaline running through her veins. Brushing a strand of hair from her face Phoenix rises from her crouch and shoves her hands in her pockets, following the demon at a sedated pace.

Phoenix smiles amused when she spots the tall form of Alec standing at a stall, seemingly trying to decide what to buy. She snorts lightly, as if Alec would go shopping for anything, he's still scarred from last time they all went grocery shopping together and Jace got them kicked out of the store for freaking out when he grabbed a box of cereal and there was a set of bath ducks behind it. Let's just say the ducks nor the shelf survived the encounter. She thought Alec would die of mortification.

Phoenix pulls herself out of her thoughts when she sees the demon pause behind Alec, her hand drops instinctively to one of the daggers on her hip, ready to let it fly the moment there's any danger. Phoenix discreetly ducks into one of the alleyways, keeping a watch on the demon as it looks over both shoulders, its eyes gliding straight over Alec who stands barely a foot away from it.

Phoenix lets out a breath when the demon carries on moving and comes out from the alleyway, following the demon, watching as Alec starts following the demon a few paces in front of her. Phoenix pauses as she passes the little pop up shop and quickly grabs an apple, smirking mischievously as she catches sight of the shops camera screen that shows nobody on it. By the angels she loves the glamor rune, Phoenix thinks to herself skipping to catch up with Alec and taking a large bite of her apple. Alec gives her the side eye and rolls his eyes slightly as Phoenix raises the apple to him in offering, grinning unrepentantly.

Alec quickly tenses and launches himself onto the top of the nearby building as the demon starts to turn around. Phoenix rolls her eyes at his dramatics and takes another bite of her apple as the demon's eyes skim right over her, before turning back around. Honestly, Alec had just done a test on whether the demon could see him or not and it clearly couldn't.

Phoenix looks up giving a smirk to Isabelle, getting a smirk in return as she stands from her crouch her platinum wig practically glowing in the dark and her tanned leg poking out from her trench coat, before her little sister goes out of sight as she passes under the cross beam only to spot her again moments later on another building.

Phoenix takes another bite of her apple just as the demon bumps into a dark-skinned man with a dark blue jacket on. It is quite odd seeing a demon glamoured, for those with experience in seeing through demon glamor's you can see the glamor, but you also see the demon it's like a layering of images, of course you can focus fully and just see the demon, but it's often handy to know what the demon's glamor looks like as well.

Phoenix continues to stalk her prey, catching sight of Jace on the upcoming second beam who gives her a wink before turning to keep an eye on the demon, Alec and Isabelle joining his side.

Phoenix focuses back onto the demon as she passes under the cross beam, a much more unpleasant sight than Jace but needs must.

Phoenix watches as the demon bumps into a tall dark-haired woman in a purple cocktail dress. Phoenix's lips twitch slightly at the sight, the double vision makes it looks like the demon is wearing a dress.

Jace, Alec and Isabelle flip from the beam dramatically and land but a few paces behind the demon and in front of her, joining Phoenix on the ground now they know the demon can't see them. Phoenix falls into step with the trio, between Jace and Isabelle, just as she takes another bite from her nearly gone apple. Isabelle and Jace glance at Phoenix amused.

"Nice of you to join me." Phoenix says cheekily, her eyes still on the demon as she takes the last bite out of her apple and throws it behind her and into a bin.

"Thanks for saving me some." Jace huffs mock annoyed.

"You're welcome." Phoenix flashes him a grin before her eyes narrow on the demon as it seems to perk up.

"Pandemonium." Alex states with a groan, all of them quickly becoming serious.

"Otherwise known as demon central." Isabelle remarks, knowing that their chances of losing this demon have just increased drastically.

"I'll trail it." Jace volunteers, keeping his eye on the demon approaching the entrance to the alleyway leading to Pandemonium.

"I'll take the left, Izzy you take the right."

"I'll go ahead and survey the club." Phoenix states, launching herself onto the top of a nearby building and racing across the top of the buildings, jumping effortlessly from one to the other.

Phoenix enters the club the loud music thumping in her ears as it practically shakes the building. Her nose screws up slightly at the overpowering smell of cheap perfume, sweat and alcohol invades her senses, her eyes scanning her surroundings as she saunters confidently around the club.

Phoenix sighs slightly annoyed when she realises she can't get a clear view of the club floor, especially with all the dancing lights.

The lights.

Phoenix looks up to the lights squinting her eyes as the ceiling of the club as she tries to see what's up there. Phoenix smirks lightly when she spots the rafters attached at the edges of the room where the light aren't so blinding.

Perfect.

Phoenix discreetly leaps into the rafters her glamor still active, landing lightly on a beam she surveys the club from her new vantage point, unafraid of being spotted as the club lights will blind anybody who looks up. She easily picks out the numerous demons on the dance floor, specifically gathered around the curtains at the end of the club.

Phoenix pauses as she catches the eye of Magnus Bane, his cat eye's looking at her amused as she wiggles her fingers at him and carry's on observing before she freezes, her eyes glued to the two men standing casually on the dance floor, a large, scarred ring peaking out from the collars of both of their shirts on their necks.

"Circle members." Phoenix breaths in shock, what in The Angels are they doing here.

She watches as they stand there in the middle of the dance floor, ignored by everybody else but obviously waiting for something.

Tearing her eyes from the circle members, Phoenix carries on watching the club, making sure to keep one eye on the Circle members at all times.

Phoenix straightens from where she was leaning against a rafter, withdrawing a dagger from her thigh sheath as she spots her target enter the club, having a good idea who its delivery is for.

Phoenix watches tense as Jace, Alec and Izzy follow the demon in, unknowingly following it towards the circle members. She starts jumping discreetly and quietly from rafter to rafter, stopping when she's nearly above the circle members and demon, watching grimly as the demon discreetly passes over a jar of blood, the coloured circle member passing the demon back something in return.

Phoenix tries to focus her enhanced hearing on the demon and circle members, a difficult task considering the club music pounding in her ears.

"... your Boss."

Phoenix eyes widen slightly at the demons' words. Circle members only have one boss.

And that man is supposed to be dead.

Phoenix crouches, ready to attack at any moment as Jace, Izzy and Alec walk past the circle members, obviously unable to see their circle marks from where they are, the circle members having buttoned up the collars of their shirts to hide the majority of the scar.

If they take a step towards them, she's jumping down and slitting their necks, answers be dammed.

She lets out a breath of relief as they pass by unharmed, still following the demon through the club, before tilting her head as a girl with flaming hair passes the two men their attention immediately riveted on the young girl.

Phoenix watches concerned as the girl follows Jace intently, quickly scanning the girl over for any sign of a threat. She's not a Demon, she's not a Downworlder, she shows no signs of being a Shadowhunter, let alone a circle member and she is in no way armed.

Deciding that Jace should be able to deal with the oddly determined carrot top, Phoenix turns her attention back to the bigger threat, smirking as she realises someone beat her to it.

"Circle members aren't welcome in my club." Magnus declares, standing before the two men, cutting an imposing figure despite his hair filled with his iconic glitter.

"No worries, Warlock." The slimy blonde practically sneers the word like a curse, "It's all ancient history."

"Really?" Magnus asks amused, her eyes turning cat like. "To me, it was like a blink of an eye."

The dark-skinned larger man sneers, barely able to take a step forward, before Magus's fingers glow blue, causing the man to choke as the magic lifts him of his feet by his throat.

Phoenix smirks, silently cheering him on as Magnus keeps eye contact with the slimy blonde a smirk on his face and his cat eyes glowing daringly.

"We've endured worse." The black man chokes out, causing Phoenix to roll her eyes at the pathetic man. Honestly does he not know when to shut up, for some reason she imagined Circle members to be a bit... more.

"You've inflicted worse." Magnus states, turning to face the obviously dumber man.

The blonde man gives Magnus a disgusted sneer but stays quite as Magnus turns back to him.

"Leave." Magnus commands, letting the large man go abruptly causing him to cough and splutter.

The men slowly walk off, their disgust for the warlock obvious, even as the larger man still struggles to breath.

"Go Magnus!" Phoenix cheers quietly, flashing the man a grin as he looks up to the Shadowhunter in the rafters, flashing her a wink with his glowing cat eyes which just made her grin more.

Phoenix looks over towards the retreating circle members before looking back at Alec, Izzy and Jace just as the curtain closes behind them. The area swarming with demons disguised as well-built body guards.

"Go on sprinkle, I'll keep an eye on them." Magnus' voice floats up to her from where he'd already started walking back to his Downworlders.

Phoenix contemplates it for a moment before deciding they can handle it and jumps along the rafters following the retreating circle members.

"Where the hell is Phoenix!" Jace practically snarls pacing back and forth in front of the motorbikes.

"I don't know Jace!" Alec snaps back, trying to ring Phoenix for the 50th time.

"Boys calm down, I can feel she's okay." Isabelle tells them for probably the hundredth time, tapping her foot anxiously where she stands leaning against Phoenix's motorbike.

"It's been half an hour Izzy!" Jace yells angrily, stabbing Phoenix's contact on his phone and holding his breath anxiously.

"We need to go back to the institute, we can use the control room to find her or grab something of her to track her with." Isabelle suggests, mounting Phoenix's bike.

"We can't leave! What if she's still here!" Jace argues, his hand shaking slightly as the call goes to voicemail, Phoenix's voice talking in his ear.

"We've searched the club and surroundings Jace, she's not here. We'll have a better chance of finding her if we return to the institute." Alec reasons grudgingly.

"You are in so much trouble Beautiful!" Jace starts ranting, ignoring Alec and Isabelle who perk up. "If you do not get back in contact with me their will be fucking consequences." He finishes hanging up.

"Alright, we'll go back." Jace agrees reluctantly, going to mount his bike when suddenly his phone beeps.

Jace fumbles with his phone in his haste to get it out of his pocket, Alec and Isabelle looking at him hopefully.

"It's Nix!"

"What did she say?"

"Is she okay?"

'Following a lead. Safe. Can't talk. Be awhile. Meet you at the institute. Love you'

After Jace reads it aloud, there's a lingering heavy silence in the air.

"Oh she is in so much trouble."

What do you think?

Which was you're favourite part?

I've read plenty of Shadowhunter Fanfictions myself but I've never seen one with this spin on things. What do you think?

Sooo I was going through a faze where I didn't want to publish a chapter unless it was over 4 thousand words, because I wanted the chapters to be substantial. But it takes me ages to write it all and then edit it all and I find myself running out of steam half way through the chapter so I'm just going to write as much as possible in each chapter and not hold myself to a number of words and finish the chapter when i feel like it needs to finish. This will also hopefully mean more frequent updates lol.
