*Hey guys. I am SO SORRY for the long wait. Life has just been insane lately. I know this isn't much of a chapter but it's something for now!
With plans set for tomorrow evening, Cas decides to run to the store to get things for a special dinner tonight. "Dean, I'm going to run to the grocery store real quick!"
"Why didn't we just stop while we were out?" Dean called back.
"I didn't think of it at the time and I want to make a special dinner tonight. I'll be back in about an hour. I'll pick up lunch on the way home too."
"PIE!" was the only response from Dean.
Cas grabbed a cart and headed straight towards the meat section. He picked up two large steaks and grabbed two things of the bacon wrapped asparagus. Cas made his way through the store picking up everything for loaded potatoes, ingredients to make a pie and a few other things he knew they were running low on.
Once in the car, Cas called their favorite Mexican restaurant and placed an order to be picked up. He made sure to get extra quest for Dean.
Dean met Cas outside when he saw him pull into the driveway.
"Did you get the pie?"
"Yes and no." Cas chuckled.
"What does that even mean?" Dean frowned.
"I got everything to make a pie, so yes I got pie but no I didn't because I still have to make it." Cas said and handed Dean the bags of Mexican food.
Cas quickly shoved everything in the fridge and sat down next to Dean, who already started eating. They sat in a comfortable silence but when Cas turned to say something, he couldn't help but chuckle softly. Dean had fallen asleep with his fork full of food, half way to his mouth.
"Dean…" Cas said softly and gently touched his shoulder.
Dean jolted awake, dropping the fork in the process. "I'm up!"
"Why don't you go take a nap?" Cas suggested.
"Wanna finish my food." Dean mumbled and reloaded his fork with chicken and beans. Only for him to fall back asleep and drop the fork for a second time.
"Alright. You can finish this tomorrow. I'm sending you to bed." Cas demanded. Dean frowned but pushed his chair away from the island. "Don't worry about it. I'll put it away." Cas said when Dean reached for his plate.
"Lay with me?" Dean asked softly.
"I will once I get things cleaned up and the pie in the oven. I promise." Dean huffed but still gave Cas a quick kiss before heading up the stairs.
Cas couldn't help but feel sorry for his mate as he watched Dean shuffle out of the kitchen. He knows how much his attacks drain him for the rest of the day. Cas put Dean's container of food in the fridge along with the queso dip. He finished his food as he moved around the kitchen, cleaning up and getting things ready for the pie.
About an hour later, Cas got the pie in the oven, set a timer on his phone and made true to his promise and made his way upstairs to lay down with Dean.
Upstairs, Dean was just about to really fall asleep when he heard Cas quietly walk in. "Took you long enough." he mumbled.
Cas chuckled and slid in next to Dean and pulled him in against his chest. "Sorry. I was busy making your pie."
"Mmm pie." Dean said softly and passed out shortly after.
Cas laid there and slowly ran his fingers through Dean's hair. The action made Dean fall into a deeper sleep and he started snoring softly. Dean's natural scent starts becoming more noticeable instead of the smell of stress and upset omega.
Both Dean and Cas woke with a start when the timer went off on Cas' phone. Dean grumbled and clung onto Cas when he tried crawling out of bed. "Dean, if you want a pie that isn't burnt I suggest you let me go." Cas laughed.
"Come baaaackkk." Dean whined.
"No my love. I'm going to get supper started. You can stay and rest a little longer if you want." Cas bent down to kiss Dean's forehead before hurrying down the stairs to get the pie out of the oven.
Dean yawned and stretched out, letting out a satisfied groan when his shoulders popped. He checked his phone and had a few facebook notifications and a snapchat from Benny. He opened the snap from Benny and all it was was a picture from a cop car, he closed out of the app and made his way to the bathroom.
Dean walked into the kitchen and noticed Cas outside starting the grill. He inspected the pie and grabbed a couple drinks out of the fridge and met Cas outside. "Pie smells good." Dean handed Cas one of the Cokes.
"Thank you."
"What are you grilling?"
"Steaks, asparagus and potatoes."
"Mmmm sounds amazing." Dean grinned and sat in one of the patio chairs. Cas went back inside to get everything ready to throw on the grill so Dean snapped Benny back, set a text to Charlie to see when she'd be home and another text to Ellen to check in on Henry.
'Henry's fine, he's helping Bobby fix the car. Don't worry about us.' was the response from Ellen.
'Not sure. Still studying, probably won't be until late… Leave a note on the door if it's not safe to enter ;)' was Charlie's response and Dean just rolled his eyes.
Cas came back out a few minutes later with a tray full of stuff and before they could start a conversation Dean's phone rang. "Hey Sammy. What's up?" It was quiet for a few seconds before Dean spoke again, "Sam?"
"H-hey." Sam finally spoke.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying?" Dean asked panic starting to set in.
"I'm fine just having a bad day… I just really wanted to hear your voice." Sam sniffed.
"What happened?"
"Nothing really…. Just. Jess is really starting to show now and it just really got to me today. I know it shouldn't. Plus people keep giving me weird looks because of it."
"Oh Sammy. I'm sorry, you have every reason to be upset dude. Just try to ignore everyone, you have a few months to go then you'll go to college and have a fresh start."
Sam sniffed a couple times. "I know, just sucks."
"We'll do something this weekend alright? If you need to you know you can come here for a bit too since mom's working."
"I know. Thanks Dean… Love you, bye."
"Love you." Dean hung up the phone and relayed everything to Cas. He sent a quick text to his mom saying to give him a call when she gets a chance.
They sat and made small talk while their food cooked. They discussed some wedding plans, whether or not to transfer Henry to a new school and what Dean plans on doing for a job. They agreed on a small wedding mostly just family and a few people Cas work with. Location is still unsure, Dean of course wants pie instead of cake.
"Cas. What if she shows up?" Dean asked.
"She won't. I'll make sure of it."
"You know how she is though. The only way I know she wouldn't be there is if she was behind bars, or worse."
"Dean. I promise you, I will do everything in my power to make sure Amelia is no where near our wedding." Cas gave Dean's hands a quick squeeze before pulling everything off the grill. Dean followed Cas in making sure the door got closed when his phone rang.
"Hey mom." Dean answered.
"Hi sweetie, what's up?" Mary asked.
"Oh nothing… Just worried about Sam. He called me a little while ago and kinda broke down."
"I'm worried about him too." Mary sighed. "I've talked to him a few times… If it wasn't his senior year I'd look into transferring him but I'm afraid that would just make things worse."
"What can we do?"
"I don't know sweetie. I'm hoping the college visit we have set up on Friday at Kansas State will cheer him up a bit."
"Can I take him? Maybe we could make it a long weekend. I mean I'll have to make arrangements for Henry but it's an idea."
"Oh Dean, that's a wonderful idea. I'll take Henry Friday night since I already took the day off."
"Okay, I'll talk to Charlie and maybe Naomi. Don't tell Sam though, I want it to be a surprise."
"Sounds good, I have to go back to work now. I'll talk to you later, love you."
"Love you too." Dean hung up, "I hope this that's okay. I'm sorry I should have run things by you first."
Taken by surprise by Dean's comment Cas just stares for a second. "It's okay, you don't need to run anything by me Dean. You should spend time with your brother, especially if he's having a hard time. We'll get things taken care of."
"Thank you Cas."
"No need to thank me. I worry about him too, after dinner we'll look into some things for you guys to do while you're there. Now come eat before the food goes cold."
Later that night, after everything was cleaned up, Dean and Cas sat on the couch and were watching a movie when the front door slams open scaring them both.
"What the fuck?!" Dean gasped and he and Cas both turned around to Charlie shushing the front door.
"Charlie?" Dean walked up to her.
"DEAAAN! Hey buddyyyy!" Charlie grinned and stumbled a few steps.
"Are you drunk?" Dean asked as he helped hold her steady, "and high?" the closer he got to her the stronger the smell of pot came off her.
"What? Nooo…. D-don tell Cas."
"Too late." Cas said.
"Crap." Charlie groaned.
"P-please don't arrest me. I didn't meaaaan to."
"Charlie." Cas sighed, "just go upstairs please."
"I'll be back." Dean said and helped his friend up the stairs.
Dean got Charlie upstairs into her room and started taking her shoes off for her. "Red what's going on? You haven't smoked in a long time." When he looked up he saw that Charlie was already asleep so he finished taking her shoes off and maneuvered her under the blankets.
Back downstairs, Cas asked how she was. "She passed out the second we got up there. I'll talk to her tomorrow." Dean sighed, "I don't know what the deal was."
"I don't know either… You ready for bed?" Cas asked.
"Yeah, I've got my appointment in the morning."
Before they even got to the stairs, they heard running from upstairs and the faint sounds of Charlie being sick. "Go on up, I'm going to get her some water." Dean said.
Dean grabbed a sleeve of crackers, a bottle of water and a small bottle of ginger ale that were left over from Dean's heavy morning sickness. He made his way up the stairs and softly knocked on Charlie's door. "Come in."
Dean noticed Charlie's change of clothes when he walked in. "I brought you a couple things." He set the drinks and crackers on the night stand.
"Thank you." Charlie said softly and slid into bed.
"Do you want to talk about what's going on?" Dean asked and Charlie just sighed and eventually nodded. Dean walked around the bed and slid in next to his best friend.
"I really did go to the library to study." Charlie started. "Then I saw Dorothy and something just snapped. I packed up my things and just started walking around campus when I walked by a party. I just went in and next thing I know it's late and I'm completely smashed."
"Please tell me you didn't drive." Dean whispered.
"No. I thankfully had enough sense to call an Uber."
"Good. But Charlie, promise me next time you feel like that before you go get wasted, call me. I love you with everything in me but I don't want that stuff around Henry."
"I know, and I'm sorry."
"Get some sleep red. I'll take you to your car when you're ready. I have my appointment and I've got to pick up Henry first though."
"Okay, thanks Dean. Tell Cas I'm sorry too."
"I will, goodnight." Dean said softly and kissed her cheek before getting out of bed and leaving the room.
"Night."
