Weeks went by after the wedding, Henry went back to school, Cas started his overnight shifts and Dean had been in contact with lawyers and a realtor about the building he wanted to buy to make a youth center. Dean and Cas still had sex quite frequently, sometimes they used condoms sometimes they didn't.
Charlie moved out and is loving her new apartment, Henry loves it too because now he can have sleepovers with Aunt Charlie. In fact that's what Dean and Henry were doing now, packing a few of Henry's things.
"Daddy can I takes my legos?" Henry asked.
"No buddy, you can take a couple board games though." Dean said while shoving a few pull ups into the diaper bag.
"But daddyyyyy." Henry whined.
"No whining or you don't get to go." Dean said not bothering to look up from his task. "I'm sure Aunt Charlie will have plenty of things for you to do."
"What are you and Uncle Sammy gonna do?" Henry asked while sneaking a toy into his book bag.
Dean pulled the toy out and placed it back in the toy chest. "I don't know buddy. Probably watch some movies and hang out."
"I wish I had a brudder to watch movies wif." Henry sighed. Dean't stomach sank and tears burned his eyes.
"I know you do baby. I wish you did too." Dean pulled Henry into his lap and rocked him a little bit.
"Daddy what happened to the baby you had?" Henry asked.
Dean squeezed Henry a little and took a deep breath, "I don't know how to explain it Henry… Daddy had the baby in his tummy but the baby just wasn't ready to be there yet."
"But why?"
"I don't know. Somethings just happen like that." Dean explained.
"Will I ever get a brudder or sister?"
"I hope so baby. I hope so." Dean was crying now but trying not to let Henry see.
"Don't cry daddy." Henry said and turned around to hug him.
"I love you so much baby boy." Dean whispered.
"I love you daddy."
"Come on, let's get you to Aunt Charlies." Dean said and scooped up Henry and the bags. Dean set Henry down at the bottom of the stairs. "Get in the impala."
Henry slipped his shoes on and ran out to the impala. Dean grabbed his keys, he was putting Henry's things in the trunk when he heard a car pull up behind him. "Please don't be Amelia." Dean whispered to himself.
"Fuck." Dean groaned when he turned to see that it was John. "Why are you here." Dean asked as soon as John was out of his truck.
"I can be wherever the fuck I wanna be." John slurred.
"You legally can't be here dumbass. You still have a restraining order." Dean growled.
"You whore." John bellowed and smacked Dean in the face. "You can't talk to me like that!"
"Daddy!" they both heard Henry yell from impala.
"I almost forgot about your abomination of a kid." John said. "Let me go say hi to my little grandson."
"You stay away from him!" Dean yelled and jumped on John's back as if that was going to slow him down. John wasn't even phased, he just tossed Dean to the ground like it was nothing.
Dean laid there for a second trying to catch his breath and reorientate himself he could hear Henry screaming and John cussing. "Get off me!" Henry yelled and ended up kicking John in the nose.
"Oh! Son of a bitch!" John shouted and reached back in for Henry, who was thankfully not locked in his seat yet, and Henry crawled to the other side and hopped out. Before John could go after him Dean was on his back again.
"Do not touch him you mother fucker!" Dean bellowed and stared scratching at John's face. John threw him back on the ground and hovered over him.
Henry was able to get the front door opened and he ran as fast as he could up the stairs to the bedroom where he knew Cas was sleeping. He pushed the door open and started yelling. "Papa! Papa!"
Cas immediately woke up and sat up. "Henry?! What's wrong?!" He pulled Henry up to the bed.
"Daddy!" Henry cried and pointed out to the hall.
"What's wrong with daddy?" Cas asked trying not to panic so Henry would stay calm.
"Bad man outside!"
Cas' blood ran cold, "Henry you stay right here and don't move!" Cas yelled, ran over to the dresser to pull on pants, grabbed his cuffs and his gun and ran out the bedroom. He dialed 911 on his way down the stairs.
"911 what's your emergency?"
"This is officer Novak, I need immediate back up at 1621 West Avenue."
"Alright Officer Novak help is on the way."
Normally you're supposed to stay on the phone with dispatch until someone arrives but Cas had no time for that, he dropped his phone not caring if it broke and ran out the door that Henry left open.
Cas saw John's truck before he heard the grunts and cussing coming from Dean and John. Cas rounded the impala and tackled John off of Dean and immediately hopped up and pointed his gun at John.
"Enough!" Cas yelled.
"Oh big guy with a gun. What are you going to do boy? Shoot me?"
"Oh I wish I fucking could you son of a bitch." Cas growled. "Get up!"
John slowly rose to his feet and tried taking a swing at Cas but he carefully avoided it and spun John around pushing him down on the impala and cuffed him. About that time they all could hear the sirens blaring down the street.
"John Winchester, you are once again under arrest for the violation of your restraining order, public intoxication, drinking while driving, and assault." Cas said as he yanked John up and marched him to the end of the driveway where multiple cop cars were waiting. Cas handed him off to Benny and ran back up the driveway to Dean.
"Baby are you okay?" Cas asked.
"I'll be fine." Dean said and spit out a mouthful of blood.
"Let's get you to the hospital." Cas said taking in all of Dean's injuries. He had a busted lip, a forming black eye, bruised cheeks and he was pretty sure a broken nose.
"He broke my glasses." Dean sighed and winced when Cas helped him off the ground.
"We'll get you new ones." Cas told him.
"Where's Henry? Is he okay?"
"He's in our room. He's pretty shook up.
"I don't want him seeing me like this." Dean confessed. "I'm going to call Charlie to have her take me in you calm Henry down and I'll be home."
"Okay but please come inside so you can try and clean up a bit. I'll bring you new clothes."
"Alright." Dean let Cas help him inside and into the bathroom downstairs.
"I got it Cas. Go take care of Henry." Dean shoved Cas out the door.
"Sup?" Charlie ansered.
"Charlie." Dean said softly holding in a groan as he bent down to get a wash cloth.
"Hey Dean, you guys coming by soon? I've got games ready for Henry."
"About that." Dean started and let out a small grunt as he stood back up.
"What? What's wrong?" Charlie asked.
"I need you to come here. I'll explain when you get here." Dean said and hung up before Charlie could say anything.
He let the water heat up before get the washcloth wet, after it was all soaked with hot water Dean began to carefully wipe the blood off his face making sure to be careful around his nose. Knowing he shouldn't do it himself, Dean took a deep breath and set his nose back before it could fully set crooked.
"Fuck!" he yelled and held his head over the sink to let the blood drip there instead of the floor. Dean wiped the tears off his cheek and re cleaned his face and nose and grabbed the bleach from under the sink.
Once the sink was clean, Dean texted Cas asking him to bring him new clothes and when Cas asked if he wanted contacts Dean replied no.
"Dean?" Cas called through the door after he knocked. Dean opened the door and didn't look up at Cas, he just took the clothes and mumbled a thanks and shut the door.
"Papa?" Henry whispered behind him.
"Yeah?" Cas asked turning around to scoop Henry up in his arms.
"I maked this for daddy." Henry said and held out a piece of paper.
"Oh buddy, he'll love it." Cas said admiring Henry's work. It of course was a bunch of scribbles but all different colors. "Do you want papa to write on it for you?"
"Yeah!" Henry smiled.
"Okay let's grab a marker." Cas said and carried Henry to the kitchen. "What do you want it to say?"
"Feel better daddy, I love you. Henry James Winchester."
Cas chuckled to himself as he wrote out the message. "Alright what do you think?" Cas asked and held up the paper for Henry to inspect.
"Perfect. Thank you papa."
"You're welcome." Cas replied and shortly after they heard the bathroom door open. Cas helped Henry off the chair and gave him the paper.
"Daddy! I maked you something!" Henry yelled as he ran to Dean.
Dean sat in a chair with a groan and instantly gasped and held back curses when Henry jumped into his lap.
"Henry, you need to be careful! daddy hurts." Cas sighed.
"Oh I sorry daddy." Henry whined.
"It's alright baby. What did you make me?" Dean asked and took the paper Henry offered him. "Oh buddy I love it. Thank you." Dean said while giving Henry a hug.
Not long after that Charlie bursts through the door. "Alright what is going on?!"
"Charlie!" Henry yelled and jumped off Dean's lap causing him to groan in pain.
"Are you okay?" Cas asked after sighing at Henry's actions.
"Not really." Dean grunted but waved Cas off after he offered to help him up.
Charlie gasped once she made her way over to Dean. "What the fuck happened?!"
Cas took Henry out of the room so Dean and Charlie could talk. "John happened." Dean explained.
"What do you mean? I thought he was still in jail after the last time he came over."
"I did too but apparently not. Cas didn't even know he was out so it literally must have just happened. He was drunk and he tried going after Henry so I attacked him and this is the result." Dean said and gestured to himself.
"Dean I am so sorry." Charlie said holding back tears.
"It's not your fault red." Dean said and went to give her a hug.
"Do you need me to take you to the hospital?"
"No I'll take him. Can you still watch Henry?" Cas asked after coming back into the room.
"Of course."
"My captain called. I have the night off now." Cas explained and Dean just nodded.
"Let's go get you checked out. Henry be good okay?"
"I will papa. Bye daddy."
"By buddy." Dean gave Henry one more hug and a quick kiss. "I am so proud of you."
Outside, Dean headed for the Impala when Cas stopped him. "I think it would be easier for you to get into the Tahoe. It's a little higher so you don't have to bend down to get into the Impala."
Dean sighed, "you're right." he walked around the Impala and carefully climbed into the Tahoe.
"How bad are you hurting? Do you think anything is broken?" Cas asked once they were on the road.
"Other than my nose, which I know is broke, no I don't think so. I've already reset my nose."
"I can tell, it's not crooked anymore but you still sound stuffy."
"Yeah, well it's not my first rodeo with a broken nose." Dean shrugged and Cas just went silent.
"Can't you just take me to urgent care and not the emergency room?" Dean complained.
"No because we need x-rays." Cas told him as he parked the car. "Do you want a wheel chair?"
"Do you want a broken dick?" Dean glared.
"I'm going to take that as a no." Cas rolled his eyes.
I took about half an hour before a doctor was able to see Dean. They had him strip down to his underwear so they could do a look over then put him in a gown and led him down to radiology to get x-rays.
Cas had to stay out of the room for that so he paced the floor. Inside the room they got Dean laid down on the table and asked him if he was pregnant or any chances of him being pregnant. "I-I don't know." Dean answered honestly. The nurse put the protective cover over his stomach just in case.
"Do you want us to run tests for that too hon?" she asked.
"Please." Dean said, "but, please don't tell my mate. I've already miscarried earlier and I don't want to get his hopes up again." Dean started tearing up.
The nurse squeezed his hand and told him they wouldn't tell anyone but him and she then stepped out of the room so the x-rays could get done. Back in the room they discussed his injuries which concluded to a broken nose and bruised ribs among his black eyes and scrapes along his arm.
"Mr. Novak I'm going to ask you to leave the room please." The doctor instructed.
"What? Why?" Cas asked.
"We just have some questions and a few things to talk to Dean about that are better if you are not in the room." the doctor explained.
"But-"
"Cas it's alright." Dean interrupted. Cas sighed but left the room and allowed Dean to talk to the doctor privately.
"Now Dean, I'm sure the answer is no but we need to ask. Did Castiel do any of this to you?"
"What?! No. John Winchester did all of this." Dean shouted.
"Shh. Dean calm down it's a routine question we have to ask." The doctor explained.
The nurse came in a few minutes later and gave him the test results.
"O-oh… Okay thank you." Dean mumbled, "can Cas come back in?"
"Sure thing hon." the nurse replied and as soon as she left, Cas basically broke the door down to come in.
"Alright we have x-ray results here." the doctor said and started hanging the images up. "Looks like there is a very small hairline fracture on you left rib here." the doctor pointed out. "I would refrain from lifting anything over 10 pounds. Anything that requires heavy lifting, pulling, or stretching."
"I can't pick up my son?" Dean asked, tears filling his eyes.
"I'm afraid not. I want to see you in about a month to get another x-ray. In about two weeks I want you to go a head and start doing small, small stretches."
"Can Henry at least sit in my lap?" Dean asked, completely ignoring what the doctor just said.
"He can if he doesn't move around too much. I know this is going to be difficult but the less you do the faster your rib is going to heal. We don't want to run the risk of you breaking it anymore than it is."
"Thank you doctor. Can we have a copy of the x-rays for the police report please." Cas asked.
"Of course. Dean, go ahead and get dressed and we'll get your discharge papers ready and get a copy of those x-rays."
"Thanks." Dean mumbled and clung harder to Cas' hand.
"I hate him." Dean started crying.
"What?" Cas asked because he wasn't paying attention.
"John. I hate him so much." Dean sniffed.
Cas carefully pulled Dean into his side. "I know baby. We'll make sure he doesn't get out this time. I promise."
"Do you want to stop at the eye doctor so you can order new glasses?"
"I guess."
A couple hours later, Dean and Cas pulled into the drive way with a couple pizzas in the back. "Do you need help out?" Cas asked.
"No. Just grab the pizzas please." Dean sighed and slowly made his way out of the Tahoe.
Dean opened the door and let Cas go first since his hands were full but as soon as Henry saw Dean, he yelled out daddy and took off running for him.
"Charlie!" Dean yelled back and it broke his heart to back away from his son.
"Whoah buddy. Daddy hurts remember?" Charlie said scooping Henry up.
"Oh yeah. Sorry daddy." Henry said quietly.
"It's alright. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to pick you up for a while. You can sit in my lap but you have to be very, very careful."
"Why?" Henry whined.
Tears filled Deans eyes, "because daddy has a broken rib and in order for it to heal he can't lift anything heavy or anything that would make it break even more."
Seeing Dean tear up, Charlie started tearing up and Henry full on started crying. "Henry don't cry." Dean sniffed trying to stop his tears. "Come here." Dean walked to the closet chair so Charlie could place Henry in his lap.
Henry curled up against Dean and cried even harder, which made Dean cry. Afraid she'd start crying as well, Charlie headed to the kitchen to talk to Cas. "Cas?" Charlie called out when she didn't see him.
"Down here." Cas answered quietly. Charlie rounded the island counter and saw Cas on the floor with his head against the cabinets.
"Oh buddy." Charlie quickly walked over and sat next to Cas, who obviously had been crying. She wrapped an arm around his shoulder and pulled his head down into a half hug.
"I should have been there." Cas mumbled.
"What do you mean?"
I should have sensed Dean and Henry were in trouble."
"Cas, you were asleep."
"That shouldn't matter! Dean's utter fear should have woken me up instantly."
"Well, I obviously don't understand how things like that work. But, it is not your fault, do you understand me? It is no ones fault except John Winchester."
Cas sniffed a couple times before pulling away from Charlie and standing up. "Henry! Come get some lunch buddy!" he yelled.
"NO! I want daddy!" Henry yelled back.
"I'll eat lunch too Henry." they heard Dean answer. A minute later Dean walked into the room with Henry's hand held tightly in his. Cas walked over to help Henry into his high chair in the dining room. When Dean walked away to get food Henry started freaking out.
"Okay, okay I'll stay in here." Dean said quickly and sat down next to his son.
"I'll get your plate." Cas said, "what do you want to drink?"
"I don't care. Thank you."
By time they were done eating Henry was passed out in his chair. "I'll take him up stairs." Cas said and quickly wiped Henry's hands and face, which earned Cas a sleepy glare.
"Charlie if you stare any harder you're going to burn a hole into my forehead." Dean said not even looking up from his pizza.
"Sorry."
"Just say it." Dean sighed, pushed his plate away and looked up at his best friend.
"I don't know what to say." Charlie whispered. "I just wish I could heal you with a snap of my fingers. I wish I could hunt John down…"
"I'll be okay red. I've had worse remember?"
"Of course I remember." Charlie snapped. "Sorry. Sorry." she quickly apologized.
"It's okay Charlie. I'll be okay." Dean told her.
"I love you." Charlie sniffed.
"I know." Dean grinned. Charlie laughed.
"I love you red, but go home." Dean chuckled. "I can't take your puppy eyes anymore and I want to lay down."
"I get it. Let me know if you need anything."
"I will." Dean gave her a light hug.
After Charlie left, Dean made his way upstairs and was blasted with the smell of very pissed off alpha. It was so bad Dean was trying not to gag.
He pulled his shirt up over his nose and found Cas sitting in the chair in Henry's room. "Cas? What's going on?"
"Look at Henry's left leg. Down by his foot." Cas hissed.
"I will but you need to leave the room. Cas you smell so bad, I can't take it." Dean said softly.
"Sorry." Cas said and marched out of the room. Dean went over to the window and cracked it to let some of the stink out. Now that Dean could breath with out wanting to gag he went over to Henry's bed and pulled the blanket up to examine his leg.
The air whooshed out of Dean's mouth as he stared at the perfectly finger formed bruises around his ankle. "I am so sorry baby." Dean started crying and kissed Henry's forehead before leaving the room.
Dean walked to his and Cas' bedroom, he heard the shower running so Dean went to find Cas standing under the spray. "Cas?"
"Hmm?"
"I'm so fucking sorry."
Cas opened his eyes and shut the water off.
"For what?" he asked as he stepped out of the shower.
Dean handed him a towel, "for today."
"Dean. You didn't do anything wrong. You didn't ask for him to come by and beat the fuck out of you."
"He's still my father. He's still obsessed with me and the fact he couldn't sell me. If it wasn't because of me, Henry wouldn't have a bruise around his fucking ankle."
Cas wrapped the towel around his waist and pulled Dean into a hug. "Dean. I don't blame you for anything that happened today.
"I took a pregnancy test at the hospital today." Dean said randomly, not even sure why he said it.
He felt Cas stiffen for a split second. "And?"
"It was negative. I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry. It'll happen someday." Cas kissed the side of Dean's head and led him back to the bedroom. "Do you want an ice pack for your eye?"
"Not right now. I just want to sleep." Dean sighed as he stripped down. "I need your help with my shirt." Cas carefully maneuvered Dean's arms so they could get the shirt off with as little pain as possible.
"I'm going to go clean up and call in Henry's bruise."
"Okay. Come back when you're done."
"I will." Cas said after sliding on his underwear, he gave Dean a quick kiss and headed down the stairs. He called his captain and told him about Henry's bruise and told him he'd send the picture in and bring Dean's x-rays and hospital reports in tomorrow when he comes in for his shift.
He cleaned up the kitchen and put dishes in the dishwasher before heading back upstairs. Dean was still awake when Cas walked in. "I figured you'd be asleep."
"Hurt." Dean mumbled.
"Do you want one of the pain meds the doctor prescribed you?"
"No. I'll save those for when I absolutely need it." Dean yawned but slowly made his way over to snuggle up to Cas.
"Do you mind if I turn the tv on?" Cas asked.
"No go ahead. I just need you to be here."
"Of course." Cas turned the tv on and turned the volume low. He must have dozed off himself because next thing he knew he woke up to Henry tugging on the blankets trying to get up.
"Hang on bud." Cas whispered and carefully pulled away from Dean so he could lift Henry up to the bed.
"What are you watching papa?"
"I don't really know buddy, papa fell asleep watching tv."
"Daddy always says that's not good."
"I know and it's not good. Papa didn't mean to."
"Can we watch Blue's Clues?"
"For a little bit." Cas pulled up the show and Henry snuggled up to Cas' other side.
A few episodes went by when Dean's phone started ringing. Dean woke with a gasp and groaned as he rolled over to get his phone. "'lo?" he answered.
"Hey I'm ready." Sam answered.
"Oh shit." Dean suddenly woke up.
"You forgot didn't you." Sam said and Dean could already see the bitch face he was pulling.
"Yeah, but for a good reason. I'm sorry Sammy I'll be there in 10-15 minutes."
"Alright." Sam said and hung up.
"Fuck." Dean groaned and slid out of bed not even realizing Henry was in the bed.
"Fuck!" Henry repeated and Dean's head whipped around.
"Henry don't say that!"
"You say it."
"I don't care." Dean argued.
"Let me get dressed and I'll go get Sam." Cas offered.
"No, I'll do it. I'll just take the Tahoe." Dean said and grabbed one of his button up shirts out of the closet. "I'll pick something up for supper." he said as he grabbed his wallet and phone off the dresser. He made sure to grab his new glasses as well and put them on.
"Dean."
"What?"
"I like the new glasses." Cas smiled at him.
"Thanks." Dean ducked his head and blushed a little. "I'll be back in an hour tops."
Dean pulled up to the curb at the high school and Sam jogged up to the Tahoe and climbed in. "What's wrong with the Impala?" Sam asked as he buckled in.
"Nothing."
"You never drive the Tahoe unless you have to." Sam frowned.
"Nothing's wrong with the Impala Sam." Dean said.
"What's wrong with you? Do you have a cold, you sound stuffy."
"I'm fine." Dean said and went to put the car in gear when Sam grabbed his hand.
"Why aren't you looking at me? What happened? And since when do you have blue glasses?"
"Enough with the 20 questions!" Dean yelled and whipped his head around to face Sam.
"What the hell happened?!" Sam gasped. Dean's eye had gotten darker and more swollen and his other eye was puffy from the broken nose, which was also slightly puffy and red and his lip had scabbed up.
"You should see the other guy." Dean quipped.
"Dean." Sam huffed.
"I'm fine. Just got knocked around a bit… and broke a rib." he mumbled.
"A BROKEN RIB?! Dean what the fuck! Did Cas do this?" Sam asked.
"Fuck you. No Cas didn't do this, John did."
"John, as in our dad John?"
"Who else Sam?" Dean sighed.
"Dean." Sam said softly.
"Sam, don't. I've heard it all day. I just want to go home. Do you want to still come over or do you want me to take you home?"
"I still want to come over but Dean if you need to rest we can hang out another time."
"No. Come over I just need you to run into the store and get things for supper. I don't want to go in anywhere. And do not just get your weird rabbit food. Get steaks or burgers or something."
"Okay." Sam said and sat back in his seat so Dean could drive off.
"How was school?" Dean asked.
"Alright." Sam shrugged and Dean left it at that.
"Here." Dean said handing him a small list and his debit card. "2739". Sam took the card and headed into the store.
He was deep into tiktok when Sam came back so when the door opened it scared him. "Fuck!"
"Sorry." Sam grinned.
"What'd you get?" Dean asked.
"Everything that was on the list and I got pork chops for supper.
"Okay cool. Thanks Sammy."
Sam carried in the groceries so Dean didn't have to and Sam almost tripped because Henry had latched himself to Sam's legs.
"Henry get off." Dean huffed.
"He's alright." Sam grinned and wobbled to the kitchen with Henry still clinging onto his leg, giggling the whole time.
Cas grilled the pork chops while Dean and Sam made the potatoes and of course Sam's salad.
They finished eating and played a couple games until Mary came to pick up Sam. Dean and Cas allowed Henry to stay up a little late so he could see grandma. Around 9 Mary walked through the door. "DEAN MICHAEL!" She yelled. Sam and Cas' eyes widened and stared at Dean.
"Grandma!" Henry yelled and went to run after her but Cas caught him.
"Dean Winchester! Why didn't you tell me what happened?!" Mary asked once she got to the dining room.
"I'm sorry… I was a little preoccupied." Dean retorted.
Mary sighed and gently cradled his face so she could look at his eye. "I'm so sorry baby." she sniffed and pulled him into a light hug.
"I'm okay mom." Dean said softly. "Now give your grandson attention before he bites Cas." Dean chuckled.
"Of course. Come here handsome." Mary smiled and took Henry from Cas.
Per Henry's request Mary put him to bed and she and Sam left shortly after. Cas locked up the house and the two made their way upstairs. "Your birthday is next month. What do you want to do? I can't celebrate with you though since I obviously won't be 21 yet."
"I don't know. I'd be perfectly content staying home with you and Henry." Cas told him.
"That's no fun." Dean frowned.
"We'll discuss it closer to then. For now let's focus on getting you healed up."
"Yes alpha." Dean teased.
