Weeks had past since the incident with John. He had enough against him that the judge promised he wouldn't be getting out for a long time. Dean had been doing light physical therapy to keep his strength up and the doctor said everything was healed up nicely.
Cas' birthday was coming up and he still wouldn't tell Dean what he wanted to do. Knowing Cas, he seriously would be content sitting at home with Dean and Henry but Dean wanted him to go out and celebrate his 21st birthday. He even pitched the idea of getting a baby sitter for Henry and Dean taking him to the roadhouse to have his first legal drink and he would be the 'DD'.
Three days before Cas' birthday, Dean started not feeling well. "Are you getting the flu or something?" Cas asked one night after Dean refused to eat again.
"I don't know I just don't feel good." Dean mumbled under the blanket.
"You do feel a little warm. Let me get the thermometer." Cas said after feeling Dean's forehead. "Hmm 99.9. Not serious but still not good. Will you at least try to eat some soup or broth?"
"I can try." Dean sighed.
"Alright, I'll be back up in a little bit. I need to get Henry ready for bed."
"Okay." Dean said sleepily.
Cas got Henry ready for bed and had to read him 2 different books in order for him to fall asleep. Once Henry was out, Cas headed back downstairs to find something for Dean to eat. As he looked he called Mary.
"Hi sweetie. What's up?" Mary answered.
"Nothing much I just wanted to ask your opinion on something." Cas explained.
"Okay?"
"Dean's not feeling well and has a low grade fever and no appetite. What did you always do when he didn't feel well?"
"I made him tomato rice soup and just made sure he had everything he needed." Mary told him and they both were silent for a moment when Mary spoke again. "But here's another thing, when was Dean's last heat before the miscarriage?"
"Shit. Before the miscarriage… I never even thought about that. I am so stupid!" Cas said.
"He's probably just going back into heat honey. His body is healed up and ready to try again. Haven't you been feeling your rut coming on?"
"Honestly no. I've been so busy with work lately I haven't noticed… Fuck what are we going to do about Henry? I don't have anything stocked." Cas began panicking.
"Cas calm down. I'll take Henry after my shift in the morning, I'm about to go in now but I'm sure Bobby and Ellen can help watch him. I'll go to the store tomorrow just text me things that you need."
Cas let out a big sigh, "thank you, Mary."
"Anytime sugar. Now make sure Dean get's plenty of liquids tonight and until his heat officially starts. Do you have broth or soup?"
"Yes."
"Good. Get him to drink some of that, that way he still get's food of some sort. I know you have popsicles so try giving him one of those as well."
"Okay, thank you. I'll see you tomorrow."
"You're welcome Cas."
"Idiot." Cas said to himself and grabbed a can of chicken broth. While that cooked he grabbed a gatorade and some water out of the fridge to take upstairs.
Once the broth was done, Cas grabbed a bag to throw the gatorade, water bottles and a popsicle in so he could carry the bowl of broth.
"Dean, baby wake up." Cas called out softly as he set the bag on the table.
"Caaaasss." Dean whined. "I don't think I'm sick."
"I know baby. But I need you to a few things for me."
Dean groaned but sat up in bed and Cas had to not pay attention to Dean's flushed skin. "I need you to drink as much of this broth you can stomach and drink some of these and I have a popsicle for you."
"Henry's going to be pissed you stole one of his popsicles." Dean grinned.
"I'll buy him new ones." Cas chuckled back and continued to pull out everything, but as Dean's heat crept closer it became harder for Cas to focus. He could feel his rut gearing up.
"Thank you." Dean mumbled as he drank some of the broth.
"What?" Cas asked, snapping back to reality.
"I said thank you."
"Oh, you're welcome."
Dean laughed, "you alright over there big guy?"
"Yes… You just, your scent is getting stronger."
"Do we need to get Henry out of here?" Dean asked.
"Do you think we need to get Henry out of here?"
Dean sat there for a moment drinking his broth, "it probably wouldn't hurt… I don't know who to ask though."
"I can call Gabe."
"Okay… I mean I don't know when I'll go into heat but I can feel it building and if you say my scent is getting stronger, I don't want him to be here if something happens in the middle of the night."
"That's true." Cas agreed, "finish your broth, I'll call Gabe."
"Jello?" Gabe answered.
"Jello, really?" Cas frowned.
"What do you need Cassie?"
"Can you come get Henry and keep him until Mary can pick him up?"
"I'm sorry Cassie I have an interview in the morning in Topeka. Is everything okay?"
"Oh, that's okay I'll try Charlie. Dean's heat is starting and we don't want to risk Henry being here if something happens in the middle of the night."
"Ohhh, I'm sorry bro I wish I could help." Gabe apologized.
"It's alright Gabe, thanks. Good luck tomorrow."
"What's going on?" Dean asked as he ate the popsicle.
"Gabe can't he has to leave early in the morning." Cas sighed.
"I know Charlie can't, she has a big paper due in a couple days that's worth like half her grade."
"Fuck."
"Cas don't curse.. Please." Dean asked and took a couple deep breaths.
"Sorry."
"I know Bobby has class tomorrow. I'm not sure what Ellen has planned. What about your mom?"
"She's out of town remember?"
"That's right. Well, Bobby and Ellen are our only option… I'll call Ellen." Dean said and reached for his phone.
"Hey baby." Ellen answered.
"Hey Ellen. I have a huge favor to ask."
"What's up?"
"So… My heat snuck up on us and I was wondering if you could please come get Henry for the night? Mom will pick him up in the morning."
"Sure. Give us about 20 minutes to get around and to get out there."
"Thank you Ellen. I owe you." Dean hung up the phone. "Go, quietly, pack a bag for Henry please. His nightlight should be enough light for you. I don't want you turning the bright light on."
"Alright." Cas leaned over for a kiss but Dean pushed him back.
"If you start that I'm not going to stop." Dean explained. Cas let out a small growl and had to force himself to leave Dean's side.
Cas snuck into Henry's room and quickly packed enough things to last him a week. Cas was finishing up when Dean snuck into the room. "They're here." Dean whispered.
"Alright." Cas said and grabbed the blanket off the chair to cover Henry with. "Henry." Cas whispered and gently shook his shoulder.
"Hmm." Henry whined and tried batting Cas' hand away.
"Come on buddy you need to get up real quick."
"Why." Henry whined again.
"You're going to have a sleep over with Bobby and Ellen, then with grandma. Come on papa will carry you."
Henry slowly sat up and let Cas scoop him up. Dean draped the blanket around Henry and kissed his forehead. "Be good. I love you."
"Love you daddy." Henry said very sleepily. Dean put Henry's bag on Cas' shoulder and quickly grabbed Henry's stuffed animal that he sleeps with. He watched Cas take Henry down the stairs and outside.
Cas quickly walked to Bobby's truck and handed Henry off to Ellen so he could grab the extra car seat out of the Tahoe and set it up real quick. Ellen handed Henry back over and Cas buckled his son up and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Thank you guys so much."
"No problem hon. Things happen." Ellen smiled.
"Let me know if I forgot anything."
"I will now get inside."
"Bye, thank you again."
"Your birthday is coming up. I expect whiskey." Bobby teased.
"Sure thing Bobby." Cas chuckled.
Cas waited for them to get out of the driveway and down the road before going back inside. Once Cas got back to the bedroom Dean had stripped down to his underwear and kicked the blankets off. Dean's scent had intensified since he'd been outside. "I-I need to call my captain." Cas said trying not to breath in from his nose.
Cas stepped out of the room so he could focus.
"Novak?" the captain answered.
"Yes sir, I'm sorry to bother you but my mate is about to go into heat…"
"You haven't put in leave for it."
"I know sir and I'm sorry but since his miscarriage things haven't been normal and it snuck up on both of us." Cas explained.
"Alright, I get it. My mate lost a pup years ago… I'll get you covered."
"Thank you." Cas said and hung up the phone and went back in the room. "Everything is covered. Why don't we try and get some sleep before anything happens."
"Okay. Clothes off." Dean demanded.
Cas obeyed and stripped down to his boxers. He barely got in bed before Dean was up against him scenting. "Smell so good." Dean mumbled.
"Dean… Sleep." Cas said and gently pulled Dean away from his neck.
"I'll sleep when I'm dead." Dean argued.
"Dean please. You need as much rest as you can get."
"Alright fine." Dean huffed and left Cas' neck alone but refused to leave his side.
"Cas… Cas." Dean whimpered and tried waking his mate. "Cas!" Dean yelled and lightly smacked his cheek.
"WHAT!?" Cas shouted and sat up in a daze.
"I need you." Dean whined.
Cas glanced at the clock and saw it was close to 4:30 in the morning. "Come here." Cas whispered and laid back down. Dean was on top of him instantly and pressed his nose into Cas' neck.
"Smell so good." Dean mumbled. "Need you. Please." Dean whimpered and Cas complied. He quickly stripped both their boxers off and easily inserted two of his fingers.
"Yes, more." Dean begged.
"Shhh let me stretch you out a bit. It's been a while."
"Don't care." Dean argued but gasped when Cas spanked him.
"I said wait." Cas growled.
Cas stoped at 3 fingers and after Dean came.
"Hands and knees." Cas demanded and Dean willingly obeyed.
"Please." Dean whined when he felt Cas' hand run down his back.
"Since you asked so nicely." Cas teased as he lined up and he slammed in.
"FUCK!" Dean yelled.
"Did I hurt you?!" Cas panicked and pulled out.
"NO! Keep going." Dean sobbed.
"Dean I don't want to hurt you." Cas said flipping Dean over.
"I don't hurt, I promise." Dean said while wrapping his legs around Cas and trying to push him back in.
"Okay, okay I got you." Cas said and pushed in slowly this time.
A couple days had gone by and in a moment of clarity as they laid there, Dean started giggling. "What's so funny?" Cas asked.
"Happy Birthday babe." Dean giggled and rolled over and gave Cas a kiss.
"Thank you… But I don't know why that's funny."
"It's your 21st birthday… You should be at the bar getting drunk."
"I'm perfectly happy where I am."
"Ugh. Well I promise once this is over I'm taking you to the bar so you can legally get drunk."
"Okay." Cas chuckled.
The day after their cycle ended Dean and Cas opened the window in the bedroom and stripped the bedding to throw in the wash. Dean was in the process of making lunch when there was a knock on the door. "I got it!" Cas yelled.
Cas opened the door and almost slammed it back shut if he hadn't seen Claire standing there. "What?"
"Happy belated birthday!" Amelia smiled and handed him a cupcake. "Claire and I made it ourselves."
"Is Henry home?" Claire asked.
"No sweetie I'm sorry." Cas told her and only took the cupcake for the little girl's sake.
"Cas who is it?" Dean asked as he walked to the door.
"Dean." Cas started but was cut off by Dean's growl.
"Go. Away." Dean growled.
"Calm down. I'm only wishing Cas a Happy Birthday." Amelia rolled her eyes. "I was expecting him to be at the Roadhouse for his birthday but he wasn't. Now I know why. His bitch wouldn't let him go."
Dean lunged but Cas held him back. "Nothing in front of Claire." he whispered and Dean looked down to see Claire terrified.
"Amelia, Claire. Thank you for the cupcake and for the Birthday wishes. But you need to leave… You are going against the restraining order, I could have you arrested."
"Well then. Sorry for being polite. Claire lets go." Amelia huffed and started walking off not bothering to make sure Claire followed.
"Cas I swear to god if one more mother fucker that we have a restraining order against shows up here, I will kill them." Dean growled.
"Dean." Cas sighed.
"I'm serious." Dean said and stomped off.
"I know you are." Cas said to himself and followed him to the kitchen.
Dean was in a mood the rest of the day and there was nothing that Cas could do to try and calm him down.
"I'm going to go pick up Henry. Do you want to come with?" Cas asked.
"No." Dean replied not bothering to look up from his sketch book.
"Alright. Do you want me to pick anything up while I'm out?"
"No." Dean repeated.
"Dean." Cas sighed.
"I'm sure Amelia will drop something off eventually." Dean mumbled.
"Seriously?" Cas frowned and Dean just shrugged.
"Fine. I'm going to take Henry to the park maybe by time we get home you'll be in a better mood."
"Drop Henry off and go to Amelia's then if you don't want to come home." Dean snipped.
"God damn it Dean." Cas snapped back. "You know god damned well there is nothing nor will there ever be anything between us."
"Then why the fuck does she keep showing up Castiel?" Dean yelled.
"I don't know! She's not right in the head Dean! There's nothing I can do about it. The restraining order obviously doesn't phase her. I don't know what else to do."
"Well I would say fuck her but that's exactly what she wants."
"You're being absolutely ridiculous right now and you know it." Cas growled.
"You know I'm right."
"Of course you're right! She's obsessed with me! Do you have any idea what it's like to have someone obsessed with you?!" Cas yelled and immediately regretted what he said.
"Fuck you." Dean whispered. "Get out."
"Dean-"
"I said get out." Dean said firmer this time. "Thank you for helping me with my heat, I'm sure it was such a chore for you. So, when you pick up our son, bring him home then you can pack a bag and fall off the face of the earth." Dean said throwing his sketch book on the table and headed up the stairs.
"Dean!" Cas called after him but Dean ignored him. "Fuck!" Cas rubbed his head but grabbed his keys so he could pick up Henry.
Cas pulled into Mary's driveway and sat there for a second before heading inside. "Papa!" Henry yelled and ran for Cas.
"Hey buddy." Cas grinned and scooped him up.
"Where's daddy?"
"He's home waiting for you." Cas explained.
"Then let's gooooooo." Henry said and squirmed to get down.
"Let me grab your things first." Cas laughed, "and you need to say goodbye."
"Thank you for watching him on such short notice." Cas thanked Mary when she handed him Henry's bag.
"It was no problem." She waved him off, "now sit." she said and motioned to the island chair. When Cas sat down she leaned against the island counter. "What's going on?"
"Nothing?" Cas said confused.
"You can't lie to me Cas. I can see it in your face."
"Henry why don't you go play for a minute." Cas said.
"But I wanna go home." Henry whined.
"I know and we will in a little bit. I want to talk to grandma."
"Fine." Henry huffed and marched back to the living room.
"Amelia showed up again." Cas said once Henry was out of the room.
Mary sighed, "what happened?"
"She gave me a cupcake and told me Happy Birthday."
"That's it?"
"Yeah. I obviously threw the cupcake away but I also had to be civil because she had Claire with her."
"And Dean obviously reacted badly." Mary guessed.
"Yeah… then we got into a fight before I came here."
"About what?"
"Amelia. I asked if he wanted me to pick anything up while I was out and he said no and that I'm sure she'd drop something off eventually… Then I made a really stupid comment."
"Oh Cas, what did you say?" Mary sighed.
"I told him that he didn't understand what it was like to have someone obsess over him. I regretted saying it and I don't even know why I did."
"That is bad."
"I know. He told me to drop Henry off and to pack a bag and fall of the face of the earth."
"Give him some space. He's clearly upset about a lot of things and he just needs to calm down. I'll go by later and see him." Mary advised.
"I don't want to leave him." Cas argued.
"I know honey but he's a stubborn ass unfortunately it's one of the traits he inherited from his father. Pack the bag to show that you listened and just go for a drive or something. I'll talk to him and I guarantee he'll call you by dinner time."
Cas let out a long sigh, "alright."
"Come here." Mary said and held out her arms. Cas stood up and returned Mary's hug and at the end of it she smacked the back of his head.
"Ow." Cas grumbled.
"You talk to my son like that again and slap to the head will be the last of your worries."
"Yes ma'am." Cas said still rubbing his head. "I didn't mean to."
"I know but still."
"You're right."
"I know I am. Now go." Mary said and ushered him out of the room.
The smell of upset omega was strong enough to make Cas nauseous. "Dean we're home!" Cas yelled taking deep breaths through his mouth.
"Upstairs!" Dean's voice called back.
"Go get daddy." Cas told Henry and watched his son run up the stairs. Cas headed to Henry's room to unpack his bag and throw things into the laundry basket.
"Did you have a fun time?" Cas heard Dean ask.
"Yeah! What are you painting daddy?"
"I don't know yet I'm just throwing colors on right now."
"Why is it dark colors?"
"Just what I felt like doing bud." Dean explain.
"Hey." Cas said softly as he entered Dean's art room.
Dean just nodded his head.
"Can we talk?" Cas asked.
"Nothing to talk about. Don't you need to be somewhere?"
"Dean please." Cas begged.
"Goodbye Castiel."
"Henry can you go to your room please?" Cas asked. Once he was out of the room Cas closed the door. "You can't do this Dean."
"I can and I will. Pack a bag and get out. I'm not going to ask you again."
"Dean I made a mistake. A stupid comment in the heat of an argument."
"You said I had no clue what it was like to have someone obsess over me." Dean repeated what Cas told him.
"I know what I said Dean. I regret every word."
"You know what that bastard did to me. You know what I have to live with every single day. What I have to see on my fucking body every. single. day." Dean said tears welling in his eyes.
"I know Dean and I wish I could take that away. I wish it never happened to you. And I am so sorry I even said anything."
"It doesn't change things. It's almost as bad as the time you asked if Henry was even yours." Dean said.
"You'll never let me forget that will you?"
"How could you even think that?!" Dean yelled.
"DEAN IT WAS YEARS AGO!" Cas yelled back, his eyes flashing red for a split second.
"Don't you dare go alpha on me." Dean growled. "GET OUT!"
Cas stood his ground and didn't move. They just stared at each other, tears streaming down Dean's face. Dean marched towards Cas, Cas thinking he was coming in for a hug held his arms out. But all Dean did was shove as hard as he could. "Get out."
"I will be back Dean."
"Not tonight you wont."
"You can't keep me from Henry."
"I never said I would. I just said I don't want to look at your face or be near you right now. You're going to continue to say stupid shit and so will I. I'm not doing it right now, so get the fuck out." Dean said and gave Cas one more shove.
Cas went and packed a bag with everything he would need and tried to figure out where he would go. He figured Charlie would be out of the question, Gabe was still out of town and he really didn't want to go to his mothers. Benny was his only option. He said goodbye to Henry and told him he'd be back soon and to keep daddy company.
Dean continued to work on his painting while Henry colored on his little table. "Daddy why did papa leave?"
"It's complicated Henry."
"Is he coming back?"
Dean so badly wanted to say no but he knew that was a lie. "Yes."
Dean was halfway done with his painting when Mary's voice came from down the stairs telling them to come down. "Hi gramma." Henry said and ran over to his toys.
"Hi honey." Mary smiled. "Hey sweetheart." she said to Dean.
"Hi mom." Dean said and accepted the hug Mary was offering.
"How you doing?"
Dean just shrugged and took the bags from Mary. "What did you bring?"
"Just a few groceries and stuff to make supper." she told him and followed him to the kitchen.
"You didn't have to. Thank you though."
"No problem. Sam's going to come by when he's done with school."
"How's he getting home?" Dean asked.
"Bobby…. Do you want to talk about what happened?"
"No." Dean answered quickly.
"Honey." Mary started.
"Mom no offense but I really don't want to hear it."
"I don't care. Just listen to me." Dean just stared at her. "Is what Cas said wrong? Yes. Did you over react? Yes and no. Dean you can't just kick people out when you don't agree with them or get in an argument with them."
Dean rolled his eyes, "don't roll your eyes at me." Mary glared.
"You two are married now. You've been mated going on 4 years. You're going to have arguments and you both are going to say stupid things in the heat of the moment. You've got to learn to forgive."
"You know I forgive him." Dean said.
"Does he know that?"
"He should." Dean huffed.
"You are as stubborn as your father Dean Winchester. And do not give me that look." she said as Dean glared at her.
"Your father may be an ass but you are just as stubborn as he is. I understand you need your space to calm down and process things but honey you can have your space with out kicking him out. You don't realize how much it hurts him when you do it."
"Then he shouldn't be an asshole that get's kicked out." Dean argued.
"Dean." Mary warned.
"Sorry." he sighed.
"I'm going to start supper, go back to whatever you were doing I'll keep an eye on Henry. And call Cas and tell him to come home."
"We'll see." Dean muttered but went back to his painting. With out even realizing what he was doing, Dean finished and stared at his finished product. It was mostly black waters with a hand reaching towards the sky, which he did in water color with different colors and a hand reaching down. It was a beautiful painting and that's exactly how Dean felt. Like he was drowning and Cas, being his light in the darkness reaching down to save him. "Fucking idiot." Dean mumbled and reached for his phone to tell Cas to come home.
"This is Cas' voicemail… Leave a voicemail."
"Damn it Cas." Dean huffed but waited for the beep. "Come home you idiot." Dean hung up the phone and went to wash the paint off his hands before going downstairs.
The smell of garlic and chicken filled the room as he walked towards the kitchen. He could hear Bobby and Sam's voice. "There you are. Feeling better?" Mary asked.
"Yeah, a little."
"Can I see what you painted?" Mary asked.
"How do you know I was painting?"
"Because it's all over your pants and you do some of your best paintings when you're upset." Mary pointed out and Dean looked down at all the paint on his jeans.
"I guess. It's nothing special."
"Did you call Cas?"
"It went straight to voicemail."
"He'll come home." Mary gave Dean a hug, "supper is almost ready."
"Is Ellen coming?" Dean asked.
"No she's at the Roadhouse. I'm headed there shortly." Bobby said.
"Oh.. Well thank you for helping take care of Henry."
"No problem son." Bobby flapped the back of Dean's shoulder.
Sam and Mary brought everything out to the dining room. Mary had made chicken Alfredo, garlic bread and of course there was salad.
"Gramma I don't want this." Henry frowned.
"Eat it or you don't get supper." Dean answered.
"But daddy." Henry whined.
"You haven't even tried it." Dean told him.
"I don't like it."
"Try it Henry." Dean said, voice firm.
"Daddy's right honey. You need to try it first." Mary said.
Henry pouted for a little bit but eventually tried it and before they new it Henry was asking for seconds.
Bobby was the first to leave since he had to go help Ellen at the roadhouse. When he opened the door he almost tripped over Cas. "Damn it boy, what are you doin?"
"Sitting." Cas said then hiccuped.
"Are you drunk?"
"No… Yes."
"Why are you drunk on your front step?"
"Because it's my front step." Cas sassed back. "It's not considered public intoxication if you're on your own property."
"Get inside ya idjit." Bobby huffed and helped Cas off the ground.
"Dean don't want me inside." Cas said and swayed in his spot. He reached for his bottle of vodka but Bobby grabbed it first.
"I'll take that."
Cas frowned, "give it back."
"Not tonight skippy. Let's get you inside."
"I already tol you. Dean don't want me in there." Cas slurred.
"He does to ya moron. Let's go." Bobby opened the door and ushered Cas in.
"Dean!"
"Yeah?" Dean came out of the kitchen and stoped as he noticed Cas swaying back and forth.
"Are you fucking kidding me?"
"'fraid not boy. Want me to get him upstairs?"
"No, I'll do it. Thank you. Where was he?"
"Sitting on the steps drinkin' this." Bobby said handing the bottle of vodka over.
"Great. He's going to be a cranky mother fucker tomorrow. Vodka makes him so hung over." "Come on ya idiot." Dean said taking Cas from Bobby.
"I'm so sorry." Cas said and tripped on the first step.
"Focus on the stairs and not your apology." Dean told him and grunted as he basically had to drag Cas up the stairs. Dean got him upstairs and into the bedroom, got Cas stripped down to his underwear and into bed. "There's a trash can by the bed. Try to puke in that and not the floor please."
Dean closed the door, closed his eyes and thumped his head against the door. "Is he alright?" Mary asked startling Dean.
"Yeah." Dean sighed and rubbed his forehead. "Did you come up here for the painting?"
"Yeah. Sam's playing with Henry."
Dean nodded and opened the door to his art room for his mom. "Oh Dean, it's beautiful… And so sad." Mary got closer to the painting and sat down in Dean's stool. "Baby I had no idea you were this sad."
"I'm really not mom… It just happened after the argument." Dean explained.
Mary sat there and stared at the painting for a few more minutes. "Oh Dean. I just love it." she repeated as she stood up.
The two went down the stairs to hear Henry telling Sam he was putting the legos together wrong.
"How? They're legos." Sam argued.
"Blue goes with green! Not red!" Henry told him. Sam just stared at his nephew then up at his brother once he noticed Dean entered the room.
"Your kid has O.C.D I'm tellin' ya."
"What's O.C.D?"
"Nothing Henry, you don't have it." Dean told him and gave Sam a look.
"Sam, let's go home." Mary chuckled.
"Bye uncle Sammy, bye gramma." Henry said and gave them both a hug.
"Bye." Dean said and also gave them hugs.
"Daddy can I has ice cream?" Henry asked once Sam and Mary left.
"Ice cream?!" Dean teased. "I don't know."
"Pleeeaaassseeee."
"Okay just a little bit." Dean grinned and as they walked to the kitchen there was a loud thump coming from upstairs. "Henry stay here. Do not get into the freezer."
Dean went upstairs and opened the bedroom door to find the bed empty. "Cas?" he called out as he entered the bathroom. He found Cas folded up in the bath tub. "What the fuck are you doing in there?"
"Goddamned rug bit me." Cas mumbled and continued to try to get out of the tub.
Looking down at the floor Dean did notice the rug crumpled up. "Rugs don't have teeth genius." Dean walked over to help Cas out of the bath tub.
"Gotta piss." Cas grunted once he was upright.
Dean walked him over to the toilet and stood behind him in case he fell again. Once Cas was finished Dean walked him back to bed then went back downstairs.
"Change of plans Henry." Dean said once he came into the room.
"No ice cream?" Henry pouted.
"No, we'll still get ice cream but how about we go pick up aunt Charlie and we go get ice cream?"
"YEAH!" Henry yelled.
"Alright go get your shoes on." Dean told him and called Charlie.
"Yo." Charlie answered.
"You busy?"
"No I just finished an assignment."
"Good, be ready. Henry and I are picking you up for ice cream."
"No Cas?"
"Uh.. No… He's." Dean sighed.
"Uh oh." Charlie said.
"Uh oh is right. I'll explain everything later."
"Okay see you in a few." Charlie said and hung up.
"Daddy lets go!" Henry yelled from the front door.
"I'm coming!"
Dean pulled up to Charlie's place and honked the horn to let her know they were there and she ran out a few seconds later.
"Hi aunt Charlie!" Henry said from the back seat.
"Hey buddy!"
"Is you gonna get ice cream?"
"Heck yeah I'm getting ice cream!"
"Hey red."
"Hey… So what's going on?"
"I'll explain everything later."
Charlie nodded and they rode the rest of the way to the ice cream shop in silence. With of course a few random noises from Henry.
The three waited in line while Charlie kept Henry's attention noticing herself that Dean was distracted. When it was their turn Dean and Charlie both ordered chocolate milkshakes and Henry got a small sundae.
"You gonna tell me what's going on?" Charlie asked once they were seated.
Dean looked down at Henry and ran his fingers through his hair. "Not here Charlie."
"Is it that bad?"
Dean let out a sigh and pushed his milkshake away. "Yes and no." They finished their ice cream and Dean promised to take Henry to the park to play for just a little bit before they went home.
At the park Henry ran straight to the sand box which Dean groaned because he knew Henry would track sand into the Impala. "Alright. Spill." Charlie said once they were seated on a bench.
"So. My heat hit unexpectedly." Dean started.
"Yeah I know… I can still faintly smell it." Charlie mentioned.
"And today, I was making lunch and Amelia showed up with a cupcake for Cas. So I obviously got in a mood, and when Cas asked if I wanted to go with him to pick Henry up I said no then we got into it about Amelia. And then he told me I didn't understand what it was like to have someone obsess over them."
"What?!" Charlie gasped.
"I know… He apologized right away multiple times but it hurt. It really hurt Charlie." Dean said tears filling his eyes again.
"Well of course it did Dean." Charlie wrapped an arm around him.
"I kicked him out once he came back with Henry. Mom, Sam and Bobby came over and mom made supper but when Bobby went to leave Cas was sitting on the front steps drunker than fuck. And so now he's home passed out in bed… Hopefully not choking on his own vomit."
"Oh Dean. I'm sorry… Do you want me to keep Henry tonight?"
"No… Thank you though. I've missed him and I'm sure he's ready to sleep at home. I haven't decided if I'm sleeping in the guest room yet or not."
They sat there in silence for a little while before Dean told Henry it was time to go. Dean did his best to shake any loose sand from Henry's clothes before he got into the Impala but he knew he'd have to come out and vacuum tomorrow.
"Let me know if you need anything." Charlie said when Dean pulled into her driveway.
"I will thanks Charlie."
"Bye aunt Charlie." Henry said half asleep.
"Bye bye buddy. I'll see you later."
Dean waited until Charlie got inside before driving home. Dean gave Henry a quick wipe down with a wet rag before putting him in pjs, knowing he'll have to give him a bath in the morning.
Dean grabbed a couple water bottles and a gatorade to take back upstairs one for him and the other two for Cas. He made sure to grab the bottle of aspirin from the bathroom cupboard after he got ready for bed. Dean placed everything on Cas' night stand emptied and rinsed out the trash can and placed it back by Cas before crawling into bed.
