Garrus woke up when he felt someone pushing on his shoulder trying their best to shake the large Turian. When he could finally open his eyes he saw it was one of the medical staff that had taken Shepard back for surgery, "You're Mr. Vakarian correct?" Garrus just nodded in response as he was still trying to fully wake up. "Well, the doctor finished with the first few surgeries for the commander," when he heard her say that he immediately stood up fully focused on the woman in front of him. "And?" he asked somewhat impatiently but he was worried about his best friend and for very good reason at the moment, "He is currently stable but we can't wake him up yet as we haven't finished all of his surgeries we are just letting his body have some rest before the doctor has to take him back in for the next few surgeries," she paused for a second letting Garrus soak in that information before she continued. "The doctor believes that he will recover from this but all of the burns and wounds he acquired will take a toll on his body for quite some time," Garrus gave a soft chuckle when she said that, "You obviously haven't seen how driven Shepard is to do something when someone says he can't,".

Garrus finished talking to the nurse as she returned to her duties, he then headed off to find Tali in the Normandy where he assumed she was sleeping. When he got aboard it seemed like everyone aboard wanted to know how Shepard was doing but all Garrus would say is, "He'll be fine, he's been through worse," he knew that telling the crew that wasn't the best thing to say but it would at least get them off of his back until Shepard would actually get back. When he finally reached the elevator he was able to get on it by himself and gather his thoughts back together as to how he wanted to break the news to Tali. When the elevator doors opened however she was already standing in front of them, "I know that he's awake Garrus," the Turian had confusion very evident on his face hoping for an answer from her. He did get an answer just not from Tali, "I informed miss Vas Normandy of the commander's status once you had been informed," Garrus was confused as to how EDI had found out but he wasn't gonna stand here and ask her.

"Ok well then you know that he's not 'awake' he's just being held in a room for a little bit to give his body rest," Tali nodded in response before Garrus continued, "And that they still aren't letting anyone go in there with him," Tali looked up at the Turian and he could feel the heat coming from her stare, "I am going in there to see John, they can do whatever they want to me after but I am going to see him," Garrus was taken back by this sudden change of character for Tali, but he kinda liked it, not in a loving way just as a proud friend that she is being selfish for once in her life. Garrus just moved to the side and let Tali into the elevator, "You're not gonna try to stop me?" Garrus chuckled, "When has anyone been able to change your mind when your set on something?" Tali didn't give a response to the question and simply stepped into the elevator.

When the pair got back to the hospital Tali knew that if she told any of the staff she was here to see Shepard they were going to try and stop her, so she simply didn't ask any of them where he was or tell them why she was here and walked towards the surgery room she had seen them take John into. Garrus wasn't far behind her but stopped when they reached the doors to try and buy her more time with Shepard by doing his best to keep anyone out or distract them. When Tali got into the surgery room she turned and was both prepared and unprepared to see John on the table. He was covered in bandages, a few had blood stains in them but most seemed clean, Tali teared up seeing him like this, 'if only you had let me stay and help-, no if I would've stayed we would both be like this or maybe worse,' she calmed herself down just doing her best to not breakdown into tears and crying as she had been for the past two days.

She moved to beside the bed looking at the man that had saved her life and chose to be with her despite all of the struggles for them to even touch skin to skin much less kiss or even further. "John, I don't know if you can hear me but please come back to me," she had to pause as she could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. "You promised me you would come back, and to build me a home on Rannoch," she gently reached up and caressed his face, she couldn't feel his face in that moment but the memories of what it felt like without her suit on and it was as though the suit wasn't there, at least to her. "I love you," she took his hand in hers being careful not to move him too much, she heard one of the machines he was hooked to begin to beep louder than it had before. She looked at the machine and it seemed to be reading his heart rate, at least from her limited knowledge of human technology that is what she assumed it was doing.

'She had better hurry up it looks like the doctors are coming this way,' Garrus had no way to tell what was going on in there as the doors had no windows on them and so he just hoped she would finish up in there before the doctors got here but they were quickly running out of time. "HEY!" Garrus immediately snapped his head towards the doctors and nurses that were heading towards him, "What can I do for you doctor?" "Shepard's heart rate is increasing who's in there and what are you doing?" Garrus noticed they were coming at him at a quicker pace than before, but he was more focused on what the doctor had said. 'Shepard's heart rate is increasing, but I thought he was still supposed to be on sedatives so how would his-,' "Tali," he didn't realize he had said that out loud until he heard the doctors once again yelling at him, "Tali's in there?!" the then began sprinting towards him and before he could react to do anything two of the doctors burst into the room past him completely ignoring him standing at the door.

Tali was in shock at seeing his heart rate increase, "Shepard?" she asked hoping for some kind of answer, but before she could get anything she heard yelling outside the doors and then two doctors burst through them with Garrus in tow. "Tali what are you doing?" she turned towards the doctors, "Seeing Shepard," she said back trying to put some force behind her voice but her relief at getting some reaction from Shepard had her too happy to be completely serious. "You can't be in here, if he wakes up or if his sedatives wear off and he was to try and get up he could do more damage to his own body." Tali paused when she heard this and realized that the doctor was right, if Shepard had woken up or tried to even give her more of a response than he did he would probably end up hurting himself more and he definitely doesn't need to get any more hurt. "I'm sorry that we have to keep you two apart, but trust me as soon as he can safely see you we will let you know, I give you my promise," Tali looked at the doctor and nodded deciding that even though she wouldn't be able to see him for probably another few days she had gotten more than she ever could've asked for from simply hearing his heart rate increase.

Garrus waited until they had made it to the Normandy before he began asking her any questions, "What happened in there Tali, besides the obvious thing of Shepard's heart rate," he looked at the Quarian who was just staring at the floor at the moment, "I'm not sure," she began to wring her hands together as she would always do as she explains most anything, "I just lightly touched his face and then his hands and told him that I loved him and then I heard the doctors coming." Garrus knew that she had probably said more than just 'I love you' but he wasn't going to push her about it. "Ok well, obviously Shepard loves you much more than I had originally thought," him saying this got a small laugh out of Tali, which is what he was hoping for, "But that is also a really good sign that he's gonna pull through, as usual,". Tali seemed to agree with him but her body language still seemed just a bit stiff for someone who just found out their significant other is gonna make it through another impossible situation. "What's bothering you?" Garrus was worried about her, he knew she had every right to be upset about Shepard's condition but he had thought that she would be happy after he gave them all a sign that he was gonna be okay. "It's nothing, I just can't see him for a while and I know he's gonna be ok but I still get worried about something that could happen like a sudden internal problem or maybe someone tries to attack him because he's made plenty of enemies or-," "Tali!," Garrus knew if he didn't stop her she would have talked herself into a pit of nonstop worry.

"Tali he's gonna be perfectly fine, the admiral has people watching over Shepard all day and night," He put a hand on her shoulder to try and reassure her, "No one is gonna get in there, especially not after we did so easily,". Tali gave a quick nod but was still wringing her hands together, "Why don't you go lay down for a while and just rest some more, the best thing for us to do now is wait for him to heal and for the doctors to finish his last few surgeries." Tali looked up at him and nodded, "Ok, you're right," "I usually am," he said with a smile as the two walked through the CIC towards the elevator with Garrus escorting Tali up to the top floor and into her and Shepard's room and then him returning to the ships weapons system to do his trademark calibrations.
