Nice Cream! Now Just 15G.
xxx
Drawn by pleasant, albeit, bored humming, Fearia wandered into an area occupied by a small portable red cart sporting a brightly colored red and yellow umbrella. Leaning against it was a man who looked very much like a blue rabbit. With a yellow shirt and red pants, he was dressed to match his cart.
"I don't understand why these aren't selling..." The blue rabbit monster wondered aloud, venting his frustrations to nobody in particular. "It's the perfect weather for something cold..."
"Oh! A costumer!" The man's long blue ears perked up excitedly when he spotted the little girl. "Hello! Would you like some Nice Cream? It's the frozen treat that warms your heart! Now just 15G!"
A treat? Fearia's face lit up instantly. "I want some!"
Scampering over to the cart, the little girl tried to peak inside. From what little she could see there were stacks of frozen ice bars of different colors inside. Was that what he was offering? From how cold she was already, she'd much rather have something warmer. Still... "Can I have a Nice Cream?"
The Nice Cream man looked down at the strange girl and smiled. "Sure you can. They cost 15G a piece."
"15G...?" Fearia gave the man a defeated look and stepped away from the cart. She didn't have 15G. Heck, she didn't have Any G. She didn't even know what G stood for! "Nevermind..."
The Nice Cream man felt like tugging his long blue ears in exasperation. The first and only potential costumer of the day and it just Had to be a stray! And she was adorable, damn it!
"Wait!" The bunny monster said as he reached into his cart and retrieved a pink colored Nice Cream. "Here," He held out the treat to the little girl. "The first one's free. Just for today, of course!"
Accepting the gift, Fearia beamed up at him. "Thanks, mister!"
The Nice Cream man looked away, uncomfortable. "Don't mention it, really, don't." This child was too cute he couldn't handle it! "Have a super-duper day!" He said quickly, hoping she would get the hint and go. If she stuck around any longer, he might accidentally end up giving her everything he owned!
"You too!" Fearia smiled innocently, before leaving the poor Nice Cream man in peace.
In the end, she had been unable to eat the treat. It was frozen solid! Already really cold herself, she didn't want to become even more cold by attempting to gnaw on a block of ice. She'd save it for later.
Sweet frozen treat safely held in sleeve covered hand, the child once again came upon the skeleton duo. Another puzzle lay in wait before her. A piece of paper? At least it didn't look dangerous.
Arriving only moments earlier due to an unfortunate encounter with an odd monster named Jerry, Papyrus had just barely made it in time to announce the next puzzle. Luckily, he had found a way to ditch the annoying monster and had rushed right over. Despite the improbability, Sans had actually been here before him this time. But seeing as it was his puzzle, maybe he had just needed to make some quick adjustments before the human arrived.
Speaking of humans.
"HUMAN!" Papyrus exclaimed happily once he spotted the small child. "I Hope You're Ready For..." Looking down, the taller skeleton trailed off when he noticed the cleared area before them. The magic based landmines that had been cleverly buried in strategic places were now gone along with all of the snow.
"SANS!" Papyrus snapped, looking towards his brother. "WHERE IS YOUR PUZZLE!?"
"it's right there. on the ground." Sans pointed. "trust me. there's no way they can get past this one."
Curiosity getting the best of her, as it usually did, Fearia walked over to the sheet of paper and picked it up. Was this some kind of secret code?! What was she supposed to do with this? Staring at the jumble of weird letters, the little girl felt her brain begin to overheat. Was she supposed to locate these words somewhere in this mess? Scrunching her brows together in deep concentration, Fearia attempted the impossible.
Finally conceding defeat a few minutes later, the little girl lowered the paper in frustration. She'd only been able to find one word. 'giasfclfebrehber' had been easy to spot since it was the entire first row of letters. The rest of them, she suspected weren't even in the mess. This puzzle was rigged!
Papyrus watched as the tiny human placed the paper back on the ground and gave them both a distinct pout of displeasure. This had gone horribly wrong! "SANS!" The taller skeleton crossed his arms sulkily. "THAT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!" he accused.
"whoops." Sans grinned. "i knew i should have used today's crossword instead."
"WHAT!? CROSSWORD!?" Papyrus gasped. "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SAID THAT! In My Opinion... Junior Jumble Is Easily The Hardest.
"what? really, dude." Sans asked, looking up to his brother in amusement. "that easy-peasy word scramble?" Looking away, he smirked. "that's for baby bones."
"Un. Believable." Papyrus scoffed, shooting his brother an incredulous glare. Turning, he placed a hand to his bony hip and looked down at the child. "HUMAN! SOLVE THIS DISPUTE!"
Fearia fidgeted feeling like she had just become the center of some very unwanted attention. What was she supposed to say? Was there a wrong answer? Jumble or Crossword? She didn't know what either of those were. Looking from Sans to Papyrus, then back to Sans, Fearia frowned with uncertainty before stuttering out an answer. "C-crossword?"
Papyrus arched an eyebrow bone. "YOU TWO ARE WEIRD!" Looking away, squinting as he did, he explained his point. "Crosswords Are So Easy. It's The Same Solution Every Time. I Just Fill All The Boxes In With The Letter 'Z'. Because Every Time I Look At A Crossword..." Pausing for dramatic effect, the taller skeleton grinned a toothy grin. "ALL I CAN DO IS SNORE!"
Getting the last word as per usual, Papyrus strutted away "NYEH HEH HEHing" again.
Looking to the small child, Sans shrugged. "papyrus... finds difficulty in interesting places." He explained fondly. "yesterday he got stumped trying to "solve" the horoscope."
...
Following the tiny human into the next area, Sans stood back and watched as she explored his brother's "trap". If anything, it was entertaining. As expected, the first thing she did was investigate the frozen plate of spaghetti. Turns out, humans couldn't eat food that was frozen solid. Who knew?
Looking unhappy, the kid finally abandoned the plate of frozen pasta and looked at the note she had originally bypassed. Sans grinned a little wider, watching as the girl's eyebrows slowly knit together in annoyance as she stared at the note. Huffing, she dropped the piece of paper and went back to momentarily glower at the pasta before turning her attention to the microwave.
This was what Sans had been waiting for. What would she do? Did she know what a microwave was? Odds are, if she didn't know what a camera or a cell phone were then she probably didn't know what a microwave was either. If this was also the case...
Fearia stared in wonder at the large metal box. What was it? What did it do? Looking at it from all angles yielded no clues. She had even tugged its long tail, but nothing. Examining the front again, she noticed the flat panel on the side was labeled "Spaghetti" over and over again. Where had she seen those symbols before?
Walking back over to the note, she quickly scanned it. There it was! "Spaghetti" All the pieces were falling into place now. In order to eat the "Spaghetti", she needed to use the metal box.
It took around a minute and a half before she figured out how to open the box. Smiling, she quickly collected the plate of frozen pasta and put it inside. Closing the door, she waited. and waited. ...and waited. Was it working? Opening the door again, the little girl peeked inside.
"Sans!" Fearia called out in obvious frustration. "Why isn't it working?!"
"it's not plugged in." Sans pointed out calmly. Chuckling to himself, he shook his skull. Kid was smart enough to put two and two together at least. Still, his questions were mounting. The most important being - Where was she from? Something about this whole thing didn't make sense for some reason...
