Thank you for all of the awesome reviews! I gotta say, I really love reading them. :)

...

I intend to have Monster Kid accompany Fearia throughout much of Waterfall instead of bits and pieces like in the game. So it's going to be more of an adventure for a little while before it turns into action! Much of the original dialogue has been blended into this as well, just for the fun of it, so hopefully I didn't miss anything super duper important - like a swimming onion! hehe

No Going Back

As the two children wandered deeper into Waterfall, the gem studded walls seemed to be getting a bit dimmer. Not only that, but the cave floor had become covered in a few inches of water. The splashing of their footsteps echoed off the walls for a ways until the narrow passageway they were in opened up and a wide area stretched out before them. The ceiling was so high all they could see was darkness.

Fearia held back a small whimper as she followed the yellow lizard boy out onto a wooden walk path that had been built over dark water. Strange plants that resembled cat-tails rose up from beneath the water's surface. She was finally starting to feel a real sense of unease about where she was right now. Regret nagged at the back of her mind as she brought her mittened hands up to her chest in worry. She didn't like this anymore... She wanted to go back home now.

Rushing on ahead, the monster kid seemed completely unfazed with his surroundings. "Hey, look!" He called from the end of the wooden pier. "I think we can use this to get across."

Chewing on her bottom lip, the little girl made her way over to her friend. The glowing words of the nearby glyphs were left ignored and unread as she passed them by. "What do you mean?" Fearia asked worriedly as she stared out at the darkness the stretched before her. She hoped he didn't mean what she thought he meant.

"We need to get across this river." The monster kid said as he tested the small wooden raft. It seemed stable enough. "The rest of Waterfall is over there." He nodded in the direction of the dark expanse of nothingness. "After that, we should be close to where Undyne likes to hang out. So we're almost there!" He grinned in excitement.

Poff barked as if to join in as he wagged his fluffy tail.

Fearia stayed silent as a frown crept onto her face. She really wanted to see Undyne, but... This was combining two things she absolutely dreaded. Darkness and water. This was like a nightmare! But... But she had to see Undyne... She had to get a Deltarune to save her sister.

Still...

"Are you afraid?" The boy asked. He wasn't teasing in anyway. It was more like a rhetorical question. He could clearly see that she was scared. But they were so close! "It's okay, I've got an idea."

"What is it?" The little girl asked as she watched him step off of the raft. He then gestured for her to get on instead.

"You get in front and I'll do all the work. Okay?" He offered with a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. All you have to do is sit there and close your eyes. It won't seem so scary then."

The small child balked at the idea for a few moments before finally relenting. Stepping tentatively onto the wobbly raft, she went to the front. "It won't tip over, will it?"

"No way!" The boy said confidently. "I mean, it probably won't..."

"Huh?" Fearia paled as she tried to back out of the plan. But with her two companions blocking her exit, she never got the chance. "W- wait! I- I changed my mind!" Much to the little girl's horror, the small raft detached from the pier and began to drift away all of its own accord.

"C- crap! I can't turn it around, it's stuck in the current!" The monster kid exclaimed as he staggered slightly trying to keep his balance.

Alarmed, Fearia grabbed a hold of the unsteady boy and pulled him back just in time. Falling backwards, the lizard monster landed heavily on top of her, knocking the air out of her lungs in a painful gust. Poff simply sat beside them and waited patiently for the ride to end.

And end, it did. It only took the strong current about a minute to carry their small raft to the other side. Once the wooden plank was safely beside to the new pier, Poff jumped off of the raft and wagged his tail happily as he stared down at the small heap of children.

"Sorry..." The monster kid said as he carefully got off from on top of the nearly flattened snow bunny kit. He felt kind of bad about this.

"S'ok..." Fearia wheezed.

Following a damp wooden walkway that seemed to wind over the water's surface, the two children and a dog walked in relative silence. It felt like it took forever for them to reach the cold stone of the cavern floor again. When they finally did, tall reeds blocked their way.

"Here, hang on to my shirt so you don't get lost." The monster kid offered. He wouldn't say this out loud but that raft incident had scared him a little. Maybe "scared" was too strong of a word. Worried was more like it. Whatever the word for it was, it had shown him that things could go wrong fast, and there weren't very many people in the area who could help them quickly if they needed it. He might be okay. But, this rabbit kit was tiny and he needed to look out for her. Heh. This kind of made him feel like a big brother or something.

Reaching up, Fearia took hold of a fistful of striped shirt. "k..." She said as she allowed the boy to lead the way through the crowded growth of river reeds. She wasn't really in a talkative mood anymore. She felt so stupid for leaving the house. She wanted to be back on the lumpy green couch laughing with Sans and Papyrus. She didn't want to be in Waterfall anymore and now she didn't even know how to get back! The little girl scrunched up her face slightly as she tried to hold back tears.

Once they were on the other side of the reeds, a new cave opened up to them. It was smaller, much smaller. A table with a wedge of cheese was placed off to the side near a mouse hole. The cheese was somehow trapped inside a purple crystal and was stuck to the table. Why did she keep finding cheese? And why was it never edible?

"I think I know where we are now!" The monster kid said as he rushed off into the next room.

The little girl sighed as she watched him go. For once, she found someone with as much energy as herself but now she didn't feel up to using it. A little ways off, she spotted a magical healing star floating innocently near an echo flower. Smiling, Fearia quickly approached the star. It shone brightly as if greeting her. She didn't really have any injuries but the gentle light was still comforting.

Her gaze turned to the flower. Maybe, instead of a wish, she could leave a message. It couldn't hurt, could it?

"I... I found a healing star. It's right here." The little girl grimaced as she continued. "I'm sorry, Sans, I really messed up... *sniff* I don't know where I am... *hic* I wanna go home..."

Poff looked up at the sad child as his tail drooped slightly. He nosed her hand trying his best to comfort her. It seemed to work. Small hands concealed in pink mittens found their way into his fur, as the young child embraced him. Poff wagged his fluffy tail as he licked at the child's face making her smile.

The monster kid waved over at the small rabbit kit when she finally joined him in the brightly lit room. Finally. He had been starting to worry. Guess she just needed a break. "I think we're real close." He informed. "This is a popular place in Waterfall, so that means Undyne must be around here somewhere!"

"Really?" Fearia felt a renewed sense of purpose as she scampered over to him. "You think we'll see her?"

"I'm sure we will." The boy grinned. He was relieved to see that the little rabbit kit had perked back up. It wasn't any fun when she was sad.

Their current cavern was brightly lit, not from the walls or the ceiling, but from the water itself. Streams of glowing water snaked its way throughout the room and short bridges had been built here and there to provide people with a way of crossing. Echo Flowers dotted the area, whispering snippets of personal conversations from time to time.

"So? Don't you have any wishes to make?" A cheerful voice asked as they walked past one of the glowing blue blooms.

"...hmm, just one, but... It's kind of stupid." The voice from the next flower sounded slightly withdrawn.

Crossing a small bridge they found a third flower nestled in some reeds. "Don't say that! Come on, I promise I won't laugh." The first voice encouraged.

From a nearby island that was too small to stand on, a lone echo flower responded meekly. "... hmm... if I say my wish... You promise you won't laugh at me?"

"Of course I won't laugh!" Replied the flower that was growing amongst a spattering of glowing gems.

Further down the path, the conversation picked back up a few minutes later as they walked past an echo flower that was larger than most in the area. "Someday, I'd like to climb this mountain we're all buried under. Standing under the sky, looking at the world all around... That's my wish."

A few smaller blossoms laughed lightheartedly from beneath the larger one.

"... hey, you said you wouldn't laugh at it!" Cried a flower facing the cave wall, it's face drooping dejectedly.

"Sorry, it's just funny... that's my wish, too." The very last echo flower was growing near the exit, its bloom was facing up towards the vast glittering ceiling.

"I wonder if they were on a date?" The monster kid laughed once they were out of the room. "That was kind of embarrassing."

Fearia giggled aloud. "I think it was romantic." The little girl gushed as she put her mittens to her smiling face.

"Huh?! Are you serious?" The lizard boy gave the tiny rabbit kit a look of mild disgust.

"Mh hm!" Fearia nodded happily.

The boy just rolled his eyes. Yep, she was definitely a snow rabbit.

A wide river flowed lazily in the next area, its waters were dark and foreboding. Extending down the center, a narrow stone reached across the water. It was just like the bridge in Snowdin expect this one was over a river and it wasn't expertly painted.

Fearia frowned as she looked down at the inky darkness rippling beneath them. It was so creepy! She found herself wondering how deep in was... What if there was something scary down there. Something that might rise up and grab them as they crossed. The small child's imagination was running away on her as she closely followed her friend.

She almost didn't believe her eyes as something really did rise up out of the water. It was a tentacle! Fearia gasped as she grabbed hold of the boy's striped shirt.

"Wha-whoa!" The monster kid stumbled back as another yellow tentacle rose up in front of him.

"What is that!?" Fearia shrieked as something large and bulbus slowly came up from the water. With it, an overly happy face greeted them.

"Hey... there..." The octopus monster smiled excitedly. "Noticed you were... Here..."

"It's a talking octopus!" The little girl squeaked in shocked. Beside her, Poff simply sat down, his tale wagging and a pink tongue lolling out of his mouth as he panted.

"I- I think it's actually an onio-"

"I'm Onionsan!" The strange monster announced, interrupting the lizard boy. "Onionsan, y'hear!"

"O- Onionsan...?" The small child tilted her head as she stared at the ...swimming onion monster? Did onions swim? Could they swim? Wait, what was she thinking?

"You're visiting Waterfall, huh! It's great here, huh! You love it, huh!" Onionsan continued her one-sided conversation like it was the most normal thing. "Yeah! Me too! It's my Big Favorite." Making a weird face, she looked off to the side. "Even though the water's getting shallow here... I have to sit down all the time, but..."

Plastering the smile back in place, she attempted to pull herself away from those thoughts. "He-hey! It beats moving to the city! And living in a crowded aquarium! Like all my friends did!" The onion monster's smile fell again as she looked away once more. "And the aquarium's full, a-anyway, so, even if I wanted to, I..."

"What's an aquari-"

"That's okay though, y'hear!" Onionsan exclaimed, interrupting the tiny snow bunny's question. "Undyne's gonna fix everything y'hear!" Raising a few tentacles.. er roots? out of the water, she wiggled them excitedly in the air. "I'm gonna get out of here and live in the ocean! Y'hear!"

Neither child dared to reply as the strange Onion monster waved at them. "I'll see you around! Have a good time! In Waterfallllllllll" The last word was swallowed up in bubbles as Onionsan sunk back into the dark water leaving only the rippling sounds in her wake.

"What's an aquarium?" Fearia tried again after a long moment of silence. She wasn't gonna let it go.
