Chapter 2
Sapphire eyes regarded the elderly woman for only a second, her one brown eye staring back pleading. One would think the decision would be harder: stay with the humans pointing weapons at her, or run after the gorgeous demi-god with light coming from his hands. Not hard at all.
Kagome would take her chances elsewhere. Her body was moving the second the silver haired man was out of sight. Behind her, she could hear the shouts of the men and could even see them sprinting into action from the corner of her eye. Her heart raced, pushing her to go faster, even when behind the treeline she ran desperately.
"Come back child!" The elder woman cried. "It's not safe!" If she wasn't so scared Kagome would have laughed. Anywhere would be safer then where people fired arrows at her unprovoked.
~o.O~O.o~
Sesshomaru smirked to himself. Just as he had expected, behind him he could hear the girl racing to catch-up with him, her heart was thundering and feet pounding against the earth to the point it sounded like a storm, even her fear that permeated the area resembled a hurricane. The girl's aura swirled wildly, a mass of energy that ebbed in waves, fluctuating in raw untapped power.
This girl would be interesting to tame.
Though he was never one to wait, and nor would he, Sesshomaru slowed his strides for her.
"Please!" she called out, her voice breathless. "Wait!"
He turned, his eyes sweeping her form in a calculating manner. She had kept up rather well, having caught up sooner than anticipated despite him having kept what would be a rigorous pace for an average human. Although slightly breathless, she appeared rather composed despite the wildness in her eyes.
Taking a deep breath, she dropped into a low bow at the waist. "Thank you for saving me. My name is Higurashi Kagome." Again, Sesshomaru was surprised. This girl looked more vulgar than a yūjo* or kamuro, it appeared she did, in fact, have some manners despite her state of dress or undress in this case.
He made a low 'hm' in the back of his throat before again continuing towards his steed and vassal that were waiting further in the forest. The girl scurried towards him, falling into step beside him. She was beginning to be quite the oddity, not at all like the humans he'd faced. Most acted in fear, as they should, and even those that did not fight were wise enough to flee, yet she looked to be enraptured by him. Her large sapphire eyes regarded him with awe and fascination, with a small bit of trepidation but not an ounce of fear remained.
The minutes passed in silence, Kagome made several looks back, a look of confusion and hopelessness sagging her shoulders but she remained silent.
Sesshomaru paused only for a moment, Kagome looking up at him questioningly. He simply looked at her before entering the small clearing, Kagome quick to follow once again.
From the corner of his eye Sesshomaru watched Kagome, her eyes quickly conveying every emotion as she took in the sight of his vassal and steed. She had only a flicker of fear that with a quick look towards him was replaced with a timid trust before looking at his steed with awe.
His steed had taken to napping in the shade, his large body five times the size of an average horse. The two headed dragon was a beautiful and rare specimen. Copper and bronze scales covered their form, with light shades lining their necks and underbelly, while thick black hair topped both heads and ran down their long necks with a tufted at the end of their single tail. Ah-Un lifted both heads, bowing their chins with a gentle closing of their yellow eyes, before they quickly turned their attention to the human behind Sesshomaru. They turt softly, excitedly even but remained laying down under the shade of the tree they'd claimed.
His vassal on the hand, jumped up panickedly from his nap against the dragon and grappling to keep ahold of the two faced staff he weilded. His large yellow eyes glowing excitedly and expectantly against his green skin. "Welcome back m'lord!" He started in his shrill tone, before rattling off praise for him: his master. Sesshomaru had heard the speech a thousand times and just like every time prior he ignored the imp. And usually Sesshomaru would have silenced him with a kick or simply walked off, but he stopped himself with a loud squawk as he finally noticed Kagome.
"A human?!" He cried loudly. He walked straight up to her, pointing at her with his staff. "How dare you stand so close to Lord Sesshomaru! And in such incessant clothing no less!"
"How rude!?" She fumed, her initial fear replaced by anger.
"Rude?" Jaken squawked. "You are practically naked! Even a Yūjo has more respect than you, then again I can only assume you are one!"
"A prostitute?!" The work came out in a strangled roar, her rage coming off her in transparent waves of pink hues. The air tingled, her reiki coming to the surface but not tangible enough for her to use nor enough for Jaken to notice as he continued to berate the girl.
It was almost comical when the girl slammed her foot into the imp's face. "You stupid little toad! What gives you the right to talk that way to a girl?!" Kagome hissed, leering down at the imp beneath her shoe.
"Jaken." The imp jumped, turning quickly to Sesshomaru with eager eyes.
"Yes, Lord Sesshomaru?" He squawks.
"Cease your infernal yapping, or I will do it for you." Jaken gulped loudly. The imp understand immediately that the threat of death now looped overhead, and all because of this human girl. "Ready Ah-Un."
Her eyes widened as she took in the moment Ah-Un stood, shaking out their manes before they too looked back at her with inquisitive eyes.
"Where are me going?" Her voice was uneasy, and her eyes showed that much when she looked up at him through her lashes. She looked so scared, and yet there was still that sliver of trust she'd decided to have for him.
"My estate." It would only be a short stay, he preferred wondering the lands he'd inherited from his father than the paperwork that encompassed his aristocratic life. The responsibility of lordship was one he had inherited and not one he enjoyed but completely as heir of both his father and mother.
Kagome looked around nervously, before again staring at Ah-Un. "Where are we?" Her hands trembled even as she flexed them at her side. Her emotions coming out in her scent, heavy and overwhelming.
He raised a brow. "Japan."
Her shaking became almost violent, her eyes staring at him with a mess of emotions. "When are we?"
"30th of April,1496."*
In an instant her eyes rolled back and body crumpled in on itself, a single word passing her lips. "Impossible."
wolfYLady: Hope you've enjoyed. I've been slow to write as I've been recovering from Covid and also dealing with the sudden passing of a family member. If you are a long time reader of my stories I want to express my gratitude for your patience as the last 3 years have been rather challenging for me but I appreciate all the kindness I've received.
Thank you and I hope to be able to write more soon.
