A/N: Hey guys! So, I'll keep this note short and tell you that I have edited the chapters of this story. Don't worry, the major edits are just in the first two chapters so I suggest reading them. It's okay if you don't want to but just be aware. Anyways, I also want to thank you for the reviews. They make me happy. Enjoy! :)

MAGNUS POV

Alexander fidgeted and rubbed the back of his neck. Nervous tick, I noticed.

"So…" he began, "should I come in?"

I froze. What were we talking about? I opened my mouth and then shut it. Narrowing my eyes at him, I gave a nod and opened the door wide. Why had he come? I had told him not to come unannounced. I sighed. Shadowhunters…

"Why are you here?" I asked.

His eyes widened. "Were you not listening to me?"

"You were mumbling." It wasn't a complete lie. He was mumbling.

He ran his hand through his hair. "Jace wants me to start her training."

My lips quirked up. Oh… Biscuit was going to love this…

I gave a curt nod and said, "Follow me."

"Wait!"

I turned towards him.

He sighed. "Jace found something about the Mortal Instruments…" He paused. "I think you need to know this."

I stiffened and pursed my lips. No information about the Mortal Instruments could be good. I looked up as he settled himself on the couch and adjusted his dagger. He met my gaze and leaned forward, "The Mortal Instruments are destroyed."

My eyes widened and my heart raced. "No. They are not."

He shook his head and started to speak when I interrupted, "They can't be destroyed. Their energy keeps this world balanced. If they were destroyed, the world as we know it, would fade."

His brows furrowed. "Look, I don't know much about their 'energy', but Jace… he found one of Jocelyn's safe house."

I blanched and he looked up at me. "Do you know what Valentine had been working at?"

I did but I shook my head regardless.

"He has changed the instruments, Magnus. I don't know how, but I… Jace found the mortal cup, but it was cracked. It had no allure, no power to it. It was just a cup."

I exhaled a long-held breath.

Bad… This was bad…

(Minutes ago) CLARY POV

I sat cross-legged on the floor of the training room. I had closed my eyes as I tried to 'feel the energy'.

"Holding your breath wouldn't help with it. Relax and let it flow."

I clenched my teeth. "I'm trying."

"You are too stiff. You need to close off your mind and emotions and focus on your heart. That will be the energy you will work with."

I closed off my mind and relaxed my body. I focused on my breathing and pushed away the thoughts that did come through. Did my mom have the fire as well? Or was it my… Valentine? He stole the angel cup. What was it called again? Where was it? Did the clave want Valentine or the cup? Why am I not getting any more visions? Did I use all the energy on the fire? Where was Jace? My cheeks flushed as I pursed my lips. He was irritating.

"Clarissa Fray!"

I flinched and opened an eye. Magnus glared at me. "Don't look at me. Focus!"

"Little hard to do with all your shouting!" I snapped.

He rolled his eyes and motioned with his hands for me to continue.

I sighed and closed my eyes and rolled my neck. 'I am getting a vision today. No matter what.'

I was just relaxing when the bell rang. I straightened. Jace! I couldn't wait for the training. Maybe, he would tell me more about Shadowhunters and Valentine.

Magnus grunted and stood up. I started to get up when he motioned me to stay. "Practice. I'll check the door."

I scowled but didn't argue. I let out a breath and groaned. This was a mess. Moments went by but I couldn't quiet my mind. Where was Magnus? My eyes flew open. I stared at the shut door and slowly stood up. Something didn't feel right. He was taking too much time. Were he and the visitor planning something? I opened the door and crept out. The hallway was cold and silent. I shivered. As I peeked around the corner when footsteps sounded. My breath left me as I sprinted back to the room.

I heard the door of the room open as Magnus bellowed, "Come on biscuit!"

I flinched. "What?"

Magnus lent me a hand and pulled me up.

A serious voice said, "Show us what you can do."

I turned towards the doorway to see Alec leaning against it. I looked over his shoulder, searching for Jace.

Alec looked behind him and then rolled his eyes. "He isn't coming today. I'll be training you."

My brows furrowed. Was he alright? I shook my head. Seriously! I sighed. At least he hadn't sent Izzy. In fact, this was a good thing. Alec wasn't as much of an ass as Jace was.

He ran his fingers through his hair and walked to me. "We will start with basic hand to hand."

Hand to what?

"Get in position!"

I flinched but did as I was told and mirrored his position. It was okay. I mean, how hard could it be?

"Do something little girl!"

My eyes watered as I scratched at the arms strangling me. I kicked my legs as my body gave away. Alec let me go and I fell on the ground, wheezing. Again. My self defense training was doing me no favors.

"If you keep fighting like that, you'll be dead by next week."

I growled and coughs erupted from my throat.

"Stand up and lets go at it again."

I rolled my shoulders and got into position.

He attacked as I ducked and twisted. I grabbed his arm and landed a kick at his back. Gods, I wish I was taller! Within seconds he lifted me by my shoulders and I was being slammed against the wall. I twisted as his arm came at my throat. I was screwed. I wheezed and then shook my head as my vision became blurry. Alec moved away as I fell to the ground. Everything went black and the voices in the background faded as images flashed in my mind.

Fire. Everywhere was fire. Nothing else visible. I was back in the house. Fire danced on my palm and then the cabinet fell. I flinched and everything stopped. The flames and all sounds and movements froze. The time was frozen and so was I. I looked out the window. A boy stood there. I stared a little longer when something clicked. I knew him. I had seen him. Who was he? The window glass rippled like water as a cup and sword flashed on it. It rippled again and went back to normal. The boy was gone.

My eyes flew open. Magnus was crouched in front of me. I let out a scream. "Gods! Magnus!"

I sat up and groaned as I felt my head pound. I shook my head.

"What did you see?" Magnus whispered.

I started to speak but then stopped. He knew I got visions? My eyes darted to Alec before meeting his gaze again. He knew more than he was telling. I had to keep a few cards close to my chest. You never know when they'll sell you out. "Nothing important."

"I think I can decide its value when I know what you saw."

I glared at him. Like hell was I telling him what I saw. "Shut up."

Magnus opened his mouth to speak when his eyes flashed. "I see."

I did not want to know what.

Alec let out a loud sigh that had us turning his way. "I think this is enough for today. You need to rest." He walked to the door and looked back at us. "Jace will be coming for training tomorrow, hopefully with some information on Valentine's whereabouts. I should leave, for now."

Magnus nodded. "I'll see you out."

They stared at each other for a moment and then abruptly walked out. Awkward.

Magnus strode in and his magic slammed the door shut. My knees shook at the energy seeping out of him as he stood facing me. Silence enveloped the room till I broke it. "What do you want?"

He narrowed his eyes as his jaw ticked. "I want you to stop keeping secrets and be honest with me."

My jaw dropped as my lips curled up in a snarl. "That's funny coming from you." Hypocrite. He was such a hypocrite.

"Clary…"

"Clary what?"

"You need to understand. There is a lot going on here and you need all the help you can get. For that you need to trust me."

I rolled my eyes.

He sighed. "Look I will tell you when it's the right time okay?"

My chest burned and my cheeks reddened. No! Not okay! Who was he to decide when was the right time? My mothers face flashed in my mind and I clenched my hands, looking away from Magnus. I didn't trust them. I never will, but I'll pretend. I'll pretend till I knew enough to survive on my own. I'll be safe then. Realizing I was taking too long to answer, I met his gaze and nodded.

The lie slipped off my tongue. "I trust you."

His eyes softened and he asked, "What did you see Clary?"

I thought back about the boy. I knew where I had seen him. It was another vision. The one at the Pandemonium. Make them pay… I suppressed a shiver and said, "I didn't see anything. At least not this time. I just fainted."

He stared at me in obvious disbelief. "You fainted?"

I nodded. "I wasn't able to breathe. Reminded me of the fire."

He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair as he stepped towards me. I stiffened and then I felt his arms embrace me tightly. I let out a soft laugh and hugged him back. He pulled back and said, "You are safe here." He squeezed my shoulders. "Know that."

As he walked out of the room I couldn't help the tear that escaped my eye.

Why did I want to trust him?
