Chapter 3: Journey
Reborn shivered under the cold weather. He shoved his hand into his pocket, trying to lessen the cold. He's quite frustrated right now. He has been searching clue for the kid's whereabouts, but the clue always led him into a dead end. After wandering from place to place, conversing with people around and eavesdrop their conversation, it had always appeared to led him into another wall.
And now, he was waiting in an alley on a freezing midnight and heck, he didn't even wear a proper cloth for the coldness. He cursed himself inwardly for underestimate both the weather and the kid's ability to cover his track. He thought that he would get some worthy information in founding him with half day or less. He isn't the best for nothing. But this kid is like a ghost.
He appeared in the middle of nothing then disappeared without any traces that he'd been here before except for the people's memories. But, even the some of the people don't quite remember that he was there. Thus, it led him into another dead-end.
He got another clue at the pub he visited not long ago when he decided to take a rest, it was pure coincidence. They were gossiping about a dangerous kid that always wandered around the alley at midnight. What caught his interest was the kid's feature they described was quite similar with the kid's feature in the report. Small build, unruly hair, but their eye color was different. The report stated it was hazel color while they say it was glowing orange. Yes, glowing. They had mentioned that the kid was some kind of a monster and the glowing orange in his eyes added the fuel. Reborn is sure they simply exaggerating it.
Reborn wondered what had he done to make the people in the bar afraid of him this much. He thought that the kid had always leaved a good impression from the place he had been. Or was it the opposite? He scared the civilian and made them shut their mouth up.
No, it wasn't possible. He didn't detect any lies from those civilian he asked. And he had a good eye and intuition. Again, he is the best for nothing.
So, his last choice is to wait in this rumored alley for the monster or whatever it is to come out. He glanced at his wristwatch, 12:54. He sighed, he had been waiting for 2 hour and this so-called monster didn't show any sign of appearing and it's almost 1 a.m. He decided to wait for a few more minute.
After six minute pass, he glanced at his watch again, showing one. He should just go home, take a nice warm bath and sleep. Continue the searching tomorrow. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, Reborn thought as he started to walk out of the alley. He huffed in irritation for the fact he found nothing after wandering around for the whole day.
Suddenly he felt a strong wind passes through his behind, like something had passed behind him in high speed. Reborn immediately turned his body, hand reached his gun. He saw nothing, just the same dark alley. But he still put his guard up, in alert. His eyes scanning his surrounding, trying to detect any movement while his hand still near his gun he haven't pulled out yet.
After he confirmed that there isn't any movement. He relaxed his body a little, however his sense are still on fully guard. He continued to walk out until, an appearance of a kid suddenly appear and run from the right side to the left side of alley right before him. But there isn't any sound of footstep or wind, it was like an illusion. Reborn dashed toward where the kid headed but when he turned into the alley, he found nothing.
Reborn furrowed, he didn't sense any mist flame was casted on him and he's pretty sure that his eyes or ears weren't playing trick at him. Or they probably were. He perfectly sure that he had saw a kid was running before him. He scanned the alley thoroughly, trying to find any sign of the kid but, none. There wasn't any sign that someone had passed through here except him.
He sighed decided to go back to the motel, thinking that his sense may play trick with him because he was pushing his body too much, considering that his cursed body was limited – curse this body – He continued to walk out of the alley. After walked for a moment he finally saw the end of the alley, connecting to the highway. But before he could step out of the alley, a figure suddenly appeared behind him and knocked him out.
Told you it gonna be short.
However, gasp, it's cliffhanger. I just noticed it when I rechecking it, I swear. This what past me had set up, don't sue me, sue past me.
Unfortunately, the next chapter is not done yet. And more unfortunately, I'm having exams, for two weeks. So, um, I couldn't continue since the examination this time is quiet tense. You gonna wait for two weeks. Or more. Erm, I'm sorry?
